We wanted some place for easy take out so opted for china star. Ordered egg roll, fried vegetarian dumplings, hot and sour soup, general tso's chicken, and garlic egg plant. I especially liked that you could get white or fried rice with each entree! Order was said to be ready in 20 minutes. When I got there everything was in fact in a box and ready to go. I was also asked what sauces I wanted and ended up with spicy mustard and hot sauce. The restaurant itself does not appear to have a place to actually sit down, at least at the time I went, so to go or delivery only! Food itself was solid. I like china star but I don't love it. They refuse, just like other Chinese restaurants, to include a free soda unless you spend $50!! The food is ok. It's tasty but a little too much sugar and grease if you ask me. The place removed all their seating so it gives it a weird janitors closet vibe. The food is fantastic - 5 stars. This has been our go-to place for the last few years. BUT I always order online. with my debit card. and then my data was stolen. I didn't want to think it was China Star, so the next time we ordered, I used a credit card with a 0 balance that I use only for emergencies. Within a week, that card was maxed out with fraudulent charges. I don't know if someone got in to the card reader at the store, or if someone at their card processing company is skimming, but I will not be using my card there again. This was my first time at this restaurant, and we chose it because it's online picture looked clean, and we're open late as I was held up at work. The soup was rich and flavorful. The egg rolls, crunchy and fresh, not greasy. The chop suey was huge and fried rice accompaniment, again not greasy and pork pieces meaty and moist. Kung Pao pork was amazing. They should be called "China No Star" because they deserve none! I have eaten their food before (always delivered) and would have given them four stars. However, this time our chinese doughnuts, which are sweet, came covered in SALT. Not sugar. In fact, the bag they came in was half filled with salt. The rest of the order was awful as well. Old, stale, cold food. And if they rolled the doughnuts in salt, what else did they do to the rest of the order? If this had been my first time eating their food I would have thought they were a dump, but I know they can cook. So why this treatment? Well, I can think of only one thing. I have tipped them generously in the past but this time my daughter ordered over the internet and only tipped one dollar. So there you go. If you tip you get decent food. If you don't you get crap. But consider this: what if you tip, but it's not quite what they wanted? What do you think they do with your food that you don't know about? What if they just don't like you? OMG wtf happened to this place???? Must be a new cook or ownership because I Waited 1 1/2 hours for my food they said would take 40 mins tops but I wasn't that upset once I saw car pull up. Then I opened my food up and immediately thought "this looks different..." but still just wanted to eat but once I took a bite of my chicken Lo Main it almost made me gag! it it was not fresh at all and tasted repulsive! So then I tried my won ton soup and the noodles were all falling apart like they sat in old cold water overnight. The general Tsao was different but pretty good. ordered Food tonight before the storm and when I called asked if they were busy , they said NO and order would be 20-25 minutes .I ordered after 2 hours of no delivery I kept calling and they kept saying very busy very busy, food coming soon after another half hour it showed up and the slip said $272.00? for a $27.00 order, driver called and they said sign and they would credit, I'm no fool I signed nothing and demanded they give credit back to my bank while I was on the phone , after arguing with the Lady owner I finally got credited back, but they charged me $27 .00 for the ice cold food now sitting outside, I said No I was not paying for it and it should be complimentary as ANY DECENT BUSINESS IN TOWN WOULD DO, but NO they are So MONEY HUNGRY that they would not let it go and argued with the drive and me another 15 minutes till I SAID ENOUGH take YOUR FOOD BACK AND CREDIT MY ACCOUNT WHICH SHE AGAIN REFUSED. I have been using the China Star for several years for ~take out and delivery~ The food is consistant and good. I too love the chicken mei fun and unlike one reviewer have had no problems with the texture or the way it was cooked. However in all fairness that review is several years old. The wait time is not unusual and depends on the time of night you call. The soups are great and the wontons fresh and tasty. The bbq bone in ribs are broiled and never burned or underdone. The bones are meaty and tasty. All in all I would have given them a five but I constantly ask for extra ~sweet or duck sauce~ and would be willing to pay for it but I never get enough. I've taken to buying my own in a jar. Perhaps, what is extra for me is not for the person filling the order. Small price to pay for good food and good delivery service. I would not change for something so small. read more
