My friend and I decided to give Siam Orchids a try, as we both love thai food. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. We were happily greeted when we walked in and promptly seated. To start, we ordered two appetizers, the mai thai steamed dumplings and the fresh spring rolls. Both items were very tasty. For my main course I ordered traditional shrimp pad thai, and my friend got the shrimp drunken noodle. She asked for no onions as she has a slight allergy, and when the dish arrived, it contained onions cooked into the meal. Luckily she was able to pick out the onions, but for anyone with a serious allergy, this could have been a real problem. Despite the onions we both enjoyed our food. I ordered the Hot Basil with beef and an appetizer of Mai Thai. Both items were fresh and hot when I received them. My order was prepared quickly and ready almost right away. Both items tasted good. However I was expecting the Hot Basil to be a bit more spicy than it was but I believe there was an option when ordering to make it more spicy. Today for my friend's birthday we ordered in it was my first time trying this spot and it okay by the time we got it home it was lukewarm. I had a Thai Salad and my main meal since I was trying this place out I went for the Mango Fried Rice comes with Shrimp and chicken. The steamed dumpling is great. It tastes fresh. I also had the first salad on the menu. It has tofu and egg and the peanut sauce is great. Mom had pad Thai and fried rice which she said was good. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! I am always satisfied with my drunken noodles or drunken fried rice. They are awesome, I've gotten take out multiple times and every order is always just as delish as the last! The staff is very friendly, laid back, and the restaurant is very clean! The appetizers are great and they have a absolutely wonderful sweet and spicy soup with shrimp. The staff is always so at home and always prepared for a customer to come in. I just moved away from Connecticut to Reno, NV and I have yet to find Thai food as good as Siam Orchid's. No place around these parts serve drunken noodles! I tried couple Thai restaurants in New Haven, Branford and Guilford but this restaurant is by far most authentic and tasty for me! There a green curry was surprisingly good. They put just the right amount of coconut milk green curry and basil. I see someone took a picture of the calamari. That is also very crispy but tender inside. Siam Orchids offers great Thai food without having to travel to New Haven. I've never ordered something from here that I didn't absolutely love. It's a very quiet and intimate restaurant which is nice. The service is friendly and it's been slow at times but never unbearable. I always order food on the spicier side and they usually are right on target with the heat. The drunken noodles are great from here, full of different proteins. Siam Orchids is our go-to takeout place for when we don't want to cook. I don't know how they do it, but they have the most tender, juicy chicken in all of the chicken dishes. I've never been to an asian food restaurant that was able to accomplish that so consistently. However, the food is solidly good and the "coconut milk" the restaurant offered added to the flavor of the food. My favorite at this place is Drunken Fried Rice where the rice is full of seafood and vegitable chunks. Our faves are any of the noodle soups, Drunken Noodles, Yellow Curry, chicken curry puffs (appetizers). I also like that they have a comfortable waiting area if you are ordering takeout. I love their Pad Thai and Glanga Broth soup. The food is always fresh and it is reasonably priced. (it's the sister restaurant) I've gone to Siam Orchids about three times now, twice for lunch, once for dinner, and each time very tasty! Food is reasonably priced as well, Lunch being about $6.00 - $10.00/person, Dinner $10.00 - $16.00/person. And you can get all your favorite thai foods in a quiet, friendly atmosphere.
