I was so excited to bring my mom here after trying it the first time last year, however, we were both disappointed. The dishes on the menu were vastly different from what was brought to the table (dan dan noodles especially). The short ribs were brought out ~2 minutes after we ordered, which seemed like they had a pre-made batch in the kitchen instead of being freshly made. The flavoring was not as expected, it was more of a panda-express type of flavor. The dan dan noodles did not have the fresh meat on top, but had a dried pre-made type of seasoning instead. I liked how the place was decorated, dark and comfy seating. Our waitress was pleasant and the food came out quick. But that's where it kind of ends. The wonton with chili oil, the Dan Dan noodles and the sweet and sour short ribs were ok but the mangolian beef and the double cooked pork were inedible. The Dan Dan noodle came out on a cracked plate!!!! The taste of the pork was awful and forget chewing it... bleh... the beef wasn't as bad but damn, use some good quality meat there. The beef came out in this sterno heated pot looking thing. No sizzle. I feel bad because I don't like giving bad feedback but I got to keep things real. I won't go back. We stopped off at Chef Jiang en route to an escape room after a doctor appt. We made the right choice. The decor is interesting with tables with orange chairs and others with blue chairs. Each table matched, but the tables had different colors. Sort of like NY Knicks or NY Mets colors. The menu is interesting as they have huge photos of each dish with a note on the side either written in Chinese or using the words American Chinese. There definitely are some interesting Chinese dishes on the menu. We stuck with the American dishes. My wife had the dumplings which were very good. My older son had the braised beef and noodles which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had the beef and broccoli which was outstanding. The portions were very generous and the prices were extremely reasonable. Wow, this place is extremely overrated. I made reservations for this place over a week ago and was excited given the many probably paid for advertisements. To begin once entering we were seated near the door, where everyone was answering and exiting from. I get easily cold due to anemia, so I asked to be moved. They told me no, and even if there was available seating in the back, they wouldn't be able to make that change for us. I then saw several people coming in who were seated in the back and even my friend who did not make reservations, came with her husband and was seated in the back. I let this go and was ready to grub on what seemed like delicious food on the menu. I'm not kidding when I tell you every single food item came out room temperature. This brings up concerns because now I'm wondering, how long was this food sitting now which brings up tons of public health issues which my girlfriend who joined me on the sinner has her masters in. We order shrimp fried rice and again this was room temperature and it looked like they just had vegetable fried rice city now and added three small pieces of shrimp. The best item we got were the crab ragoons and even that was just OK. I'm giving this a two stars for the cute pictures the vibes and the company. Wow I can't believe it took me so long to get here! This spot has been on my radar for ages and is highly regarded by all my foodie friends - it lived up to every expectation. The inside has several large tables with a table top lazy Susan, making it perfect and easy to share all your dishes with your party. All the food was rich, flavorful, well cooked and came out of the kitchen fast. I'd have to say, the homestyle pork stole the show because of the crispy cook and balanced heat of the peppers. The scallion pancake also took me by pleasant surprise as it was flaky and light unlike many other places. I saw a post about Chef Jiang on tiktok and had to check it out since it's so close to me. The server was pretty attentive, the food was outstanding, and the restaurant was nicely decorated. The dumplings had to be some of the best we've ever had. For my entree, I got general Tso's chicken and it was served over a flame (as was my dad's Mongolian beef). The food was so full of flavor and cooked just right. Everything was served HOT - how it should be! One of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to! Phenomenal. After hearing amazing things about the original location in Farmington, I was beyond excited to try. The space is well decorated with dividers between tables giving you the illusion of privacy at your table. The service was great and the staff was really attentive and kind. They were also happy to share any knowledge when we asked questions. We had the sweet and sour fish, pumpkin cookies, wontons in chili oil, vegetable spring rolls, pork soup dumplings, green beans, and dry pot. All amazing. A 10/10 experience always - the servers are great and the food is even better. Super cool, up-scale casual ambiance. Perfect for date night or a family outting. I have been to their Farmington location first and I could confidently say it was the best lo mein I have ever eaten. Although, when visiting the recently opened New Haven spot, I knew I wanted to try some more dishes. The string beans (seasoned SO WELL), hot pot (with spicy beef and chicken), pork soup dumplings and pumpkin cookies were incredible. Everything was very flavorful. I was nervous about the sweet and sour fish since I am not a huge fish person, but it did not taste a bit fishy. It was actually delicious, and paired well with the sweet and sour sauce. The hostess was so sweet and let us choose which table we wanted to sit at because they had many empty tables. We ordered a bunch of foods to share and everything was really delicious. My absolute favorite dishes were the garlic bean sprouts and the braised pork. We also got 3 bowls of rice with the entrees we ordered. I would absolutely try more foods from the menu! The restaurant was pretty quiet and we were able to chat without crazy background noise. All the waitstaffs were super friendly and lovely. Food came out super fast. Here are the dishes I recommended: 1) stir fry bok choy with garlic was delicious! They were cooked perfectly! Everything came out fast but pipping hot!!! 2) really spicy Sichuan beef with Chinese celery Needed to pair with rice! And maybe cucumber to cool your palate down with that heat!!! Spicy AF. This dish was delicious though. 3) pumpkin cookies was written on the menu. But they actually tasted like deep fried pumpkin mochi. Really good flavor and not too sweet. So the decor and inside is lovely, very comfy seats, clean. However my friend ordered a tofu dish as a vegetarian and they cooked it with tofu and pork (not specified on the menu, that there was any pork) they did take the dish back and took it off the bill but that's a red flag for anyone who is vegetarian going here having any tofu dish it's probably not vegetarian at all. We had tea which I think was jasmine, there's not alcohol and the only other options are canned sodas. First time at this new location. The space is quite beautiful, warm and inviting. The tables are each set so that you have your own space, providing a nice sense of privacy. We were greeted warmly and given our choice of tables. The menu is made of high resolution pictures, making it a bit easier to know what to expect. So many great choices that took a long time to decide! The food was delicious, all of it. A table of vegetarians/pescatarians ate quite well with enough to take home for lunch the next day. We had the vegetable dumplings, veggie spring rolls and Dan Dan noodles, minus the meat, as apps. Mains were tofu seafood casserole, green beens & eggplant, scallion fried rice, and a unique dish of our choice of 6+ options including shrimp, lotus, tofu skin and other great veggies and seafood. A nice final touch was a plate of honeydew melon, something that Chinese restaurants used to give (oranges) as a sweet ending. Very authentic Chinese food! My friends and I went to Chef Jiang on a Friday night at 5:00. We called ahead of time to try and make a reservation thinking it would be busy but the restaurant was no longer taking reservations. To our pleasant surprise, we were promptly seated at a comfortable table with no wait. The restaurant is big and spacey and can comfortably accommodate large parties. Two of us arrived early and shared the chicken soup dumpling and veggie spring rolls. They both had so much flavor we looked at eachother in shock, hoping the trend would continue. For dinner, I ordered the kung pao chicken and veggie lo mein, both which exuded flavor and were amazing. My cousin ordered the general tsos chicken which was crispy and cooked to perfection. My other friend ordered chicken and brocolli which she said was outstanding. Chef Jiang was amazing and I will recommend it to anyone I talk to. The only thing to be aware of is that the food doesn't come out at the same time, so some people were eating and some people had nothing, but that might partially be our fault because I think it's typically family style. The service is also quite slow but not enough to reduce a star. We love Chef Jiang and will be back!! read more

Upon entry, the ambiance of Chef Jiang exudes a simple elegance. Much nicer than neighboring restaurants (I'd say very similar to Taste of China a few blocks down). The bright and inviting interior is quite a contrast to its exterior. It's a place where large groups can comfortably gather around the round tables, reminiscent of traditional Chinese banquet halls, making it a suitable venue for family gatherings! The Hot Green Pepper Chicken offered a pleasing blend of flavors. This was the most authentic in terms of taste and presentation. 4.5/5. The Mapo Tofu, a dish which, while lacking the vigorous spice one might anticipate, still delivered a comforting, home-cooked essence. Its subtle flavors, although somewhat underwhelming for lovers of Sichuan cuisine, present a satisfactory option for those with milder palates. It was too bland for our liking, but portions were relatively bigger. 4/5. While somewhat tasteful, the Sautéed Slice Lamb in Hunan Style was way too salty. I'd ask for easy on the salt next time. It shied away from the boldness and complexity typically associated with these regional Chinese cuisines. While well-prepared, it would likely not satiate those seeking an authentic experience. 3/5. I suggest skipping on the Crab Yellow with Pork Soup Dumplings. While the presentation is visually appealing, they may fall short in satisfaction. The dumplings lacked the rich, brothy interior one might anticipate (there was no soup inside despite being a soup dumpling), and the filling was minimal, offering a less fulfilling experience than expected. 2.5/5. The Steamed Dumplings were not unsavory per se, but not worth the price. Despite an employee telling us so, they were not homemade, and the portions were REALLY small. I suggest you skip or choose another appetizer. 1/5. Despite the courteous staff (they were all very friendly and helpful!), the wait time was notably long. We sat down immediately because they were not busy, but it took over 45 minutes for our orders to arrive, a delay that might test the patience of many diners. I noticed some people have left negative reviews for Chef Jiang on here due to the long wait time. However, as a new establishment, it's not uncommon to experience initial operational hiccups, and we should all be more considerate. There is a new Chef Jiangs in New Haven! It's in the previous location of Great Wall restaurant. Having been a fan of Chef Jiang's Farmington location, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to explore their newest spot. Upon entering I was warmly greeted and seated immediately. The interior is spacious and adorned with Chinese decor. The familiar decor and menu from the original location created a comforting atmosphere. Their extensive menu caters to both traditional Chinese cuisine and American Chinese favorites like General Tso's Chicken and Kung Pao. I love that their menu also includes pictures of most of their dishes for reference. After looking over the menu, I opted for the Changsha shaomai (shrimp with sticky rice) and Xiao Longbao (chicken soup dumplings). I never had the Changsha shaomai, but I have had the Xiao Longbao. Both were delicious and flavorful and were accompanied with a dipping sauce. As always, their plating presentation was creative and left a lasting impression. The attentive staff also added to the overall positive dining experience. There is metered street parking available. And there are 2 wheelchair accessible gender neutral bathrooms available. We accidentally stumbled into Chef Jiang's on the Lunar New Year and were surprised at how packed it was at 4:30pm! The venue itself is nice with modern decor and plenty of seating. The menu has photos of all the items available which makes it much easier for ordering (though there seems to be no particular order to the menu). The food came out quickly and was hot (temperature) and extremely tasty. We had to ask a few items for some items but they came out quickly afterwards. I'd highly recommend! read more

I took my wife there and the cook set our food away from us, on the opposite side of the table. we had to ask for everything from forks, to napkins, to straws.
