I swear, we ordered a normal amount of food and not only did it arrive within 20 minutes, but the portions were enormous! For some reason, I always favor east coast chinese food to west. The egg rolls are more like egg LOAFS and the lo mein was so flavorful and tasty (rich, garlic noodles) and the generosity with shrimpies had me crying with joy. Solid 3 stars. I am new to town and came upon the suggestion of my neighbor. Everything is to go, there is no inside seating. Everything has been fresh and consistent. No frills. My food was bad! And The thing that baffles me about when I went is that they were actually busy!..??? My go to with every new Chinese place is General Tso's Chicken combination and Fried Wontons. But first let's start with my experience. I called in, they took my order, but not my name. That was a first. I pulled into the lot, seen they were busy so I waited a few minutes for some of the people to clear out before I enter. I go in and I just stand there waiting my turn. I note patrons without masks (and talking), social distancing not enforced. Cool, whatever but then I'm next and the lady behind the counter asked the girl on my side, who came in after me if she could help her. The girl told her I was first. Inside is chaotic and unorganized. Nobody knows where to stand, sit or wait. The food: Gross... My fried wontons were hard and overcooked. Some were inedible because they were actually burnt. I noticed when putting the order together the woman took my wontons from a huge basket of pre-cooked wontons. They were just sitting there, enough for at least 4-5 orders and clearly not fresh. And then the "sweet and sour sauce" that came with it was so watery, it should have been illegal for them to call it a sauce! The general tso's chicken was just not good. I took a couple bites and decided to throw it away. I have never tasted general tso's like that... I don't remember the rice, but that went in the garbage too and the eggroll was decent except for the overdone hard ends. For them to seemingly have so much business, I'm like where did I go wrong? Panda House West Haven on Elm Street is THE BEST Chinese food ever. The people are nice, they are polite and aim to please the customer. The food is so delicious and not greasy or overly salty. It's been many years of trying other places in the area and this one always seems to be the one. The portions are always a solid, the delivery speeds and can't forget their free items. We had high hopes for this place with its four star Yelp reviews. I'm pretty sure that the kid in the lobby with the iPad wrote all of them. The beef teriyaki was borderline inedible, my traveling partner says just plain inedible. The crab rangoons were decent as was the Kung Pao shrimp and chicken but the egg rolls were subpar. The fried rice looks strangely yellow but tasted okay. These guys seem to be going for bargain-basement prices and quality. I will not be back. read more

I ceased visiting this Chinese take-out place after the female owner's kid vomited on her shoulder. Surprisingly she did nothing about it. She just gave a big smile and a "aww, my kid is so cute" look. Yuk. It's not cute and frankly it's sad to see her kid there almost everyday. It's not fair to the kid and it's not fair to customers who don't want puke covering their moo goo gai pan. What she did (actually the lack of what she did) says a lot about her thoughts on hygiene and kitchen cleanliness. God only knows what she and the cooks do in the kitchen when out of sight. I called my order at 5pm I called to follow up on my order at 6:15 she told me it was on the way, I called again at 6:45 (keep in mind this place is max 15 minutes away) she said it's on the way. Sunday night I came here and ordered chicken wings with brown rice. For my mom and brother, I ordered chicken wings and beef fried rice. Delicious! And the wings are huge. However, when I woke up Monday morning, I was very sick. I had to go to the emergency room Monday morning and miss work because I was suffering from food poisoning. If u want severe food poisoning along with vomiting and diarrhea and want an excuse to miss work, Order the wings and brown rice. And as of yesterday, my mom is also sick as well. I went over my order with them 3 times when I first placed my order 2 general chicken combos small side of shrimp lo mein and a 2 liter Pepsi I asked for the price and she told me 16$ and some change they take an hour and a half to deliver and I am a less then 3 mi drive from them...I open my food and one of my combos are missing I called them the lady answers the phone and she admits she forgot it and told mi it was on its way and she was sorry ...another hour goes by the combo is here the guy try to charge mi $8.25 for the missing combo and when i called the lady back shes yelling at mi trying to convince mi she didn't forget my combo that i "added it on " And the receipt for the food has nothing but 2 items written down as charged!! this is way to much to go through for take out and way to many options in west haven to go through this again they deserve no stars and they need to organize their deliveries better!!!! read more
