What a gem! I'm so glad we finally visited Juliet--as it will certainly become one of our neighborhood 'go-to' restaurants! The food was really delightful - we at the Roman Holiday menu - and the pairings were very well chosen. The ambience in the restaurant is charming - the intimacy of a small space, and the open kitchen, is a nice change from some larger establishments. Best part? The people! Katrina shared stories of her travels with us, and painted the picture of how certain menu items or wines were chosen. Our waiter was knowledgeable and very friendly. My love of Juliet began when I found them on the Food for All app. I had been looking for a European-inspired restaurant in the Boston/Cambridge area and tried their Food for All offering of handmade pasta with seasonal vegetables and tomato sauce for a late night pick-up. Simple yet elevated flavors in a well-portioned meal. I read more about the company online and was enthralled with their practice of gratuity free dining and living wages which mirrors the Japanese dining experience. Already hooked from one meal and wanting to support their stance in the American restaurant scence, I came back for their Saturday pre-theatre prefix menu, "Xenia: Feast of the Gods." There was plenty of food, subtle and complex flavors throughout the meal, and enjoyed the stories behind every dish. Then, I came in weekly for their Peregrine preview dinners which was a treat for seafood lovers-- Peregrine is Josh and Katrina's second restaurant together please visit them in Beacon Hill. Recently, I joined them for their Beach Rose prefix menu and my highlight was the anadama bread with roe butter-- yum! All menus were wonderful productions; there is always at least one dish that stands out for its creativity and marriage of flavors. As a single diner, I am conscience of what a party of one entails in which at times I may be the least/last priority. I have never felt that way at Juliet on any of my visits. The team members are most compassionate and attentive; they are the heart and soul of the company. I love coming to interact with them as much as I love the food. I now visit on weekly basis and consider myself as part of their extended family. I prefer the casualness of their Sunday suppers with their ever-changing menus (10% of proceeds from supper go to a special cause and recently, there was a surprise opera performance on Sunday). If you get a chance, try a slice of their lemon blueberry cake made with almond meal or the gluten-free carrot cake made with almond and oat flours-- you won't regret it! In general, I like to go when they first open for Sunday supper and from time to time breakfast for the Sea Shack Sandwich (obsessed with the combination of anadama bread and roe butter with the addition of an overeasy egg and creme fraiche)-- it's the calm before the storm of new and old devotees. Last Friday a friend and I went to Juliet for their dinner service. We both got the 5 course prefix, which was amazing, albeit a looot of food! All of the food was delicious! The highlights were definitely were definitely the "raw bar" with the quinoa bread and lobster/vegetable butter, the whole branzino, and the raspberry/chocolate profiterole. The butters were flavorful, the fish tender, and the tart raspberries, bittersweet chocolate, and sweet profiterole blended together perfectly. While the prefix was 5 courses, the kitchen brought us their take on a tomato-rhubarb salad, an after dinner with fried capers, and almond madeleines with the check! (They also provided us with a $10 giftcard for another meal and gratuity was included with the check - the service was wonderful!) While they currently don't have a liquor license, they did have a number of mocktails. While we did not order any, a delicious saffron drink came with the prefix. While the drink and coffee with desert were good, the meal could have benefitted with some lovely wines - it would have taken the dining experience to a whole new level. The service was great and graciously accommodated a pescetarian diet and peanut allergy. They explained each dish to us and Katrina Jazayeri even came by with a few of the courses. The space is small and intimate, the decor is simple and refined, the perfect setting for the type of food that the kitchen is putting out. Juliet was a delicious culinary experience, but it isn't the place you would go for just a relaxed night out with friends. The 5-course prefix took around 2 hours start to finish and the calm atmosphere definitely made food the focus of the night. read more

I had such a lovely dinner here with a friend on Thursday. We had a wine flight of three great roses, some delicious gazpacho, a really interesting seaweed salad, fish tacos, and a jelly omelet (way, way better than it sounds - it was served with rosewater and sort of revolutionized the way I think about eggs). The gazpacho was my favorite of the dishes (topped with some spices that really complemented the tomato), but overall it was the service and ambiance that set the meal apart. It felt like a cozy neighborhood restaurant that was cooking whatever it felt inspired to cook, and the service was personable without being overdone. Would go back in a heartbeat. read more

One of the most extraordinary restaurants in the Boston area, and it gets better the longer you know it. A nice light space that adapts itself to a casual cafe or a date night fit for your best outfit. Go eat a three- or five-course meal that will bowl you over. I can still remember each dish I've had there. Some of the more surprising ones changed how I cooked, just a little, like my new affection for pink peppercorn. Or else eat a perfect brunch or get a cup of coffee. They have a good wage structure instead of tips, and a marvel of an open electric kitchen. The wine list is a quiet powerhouse. And the email subscription is worth it too, with nice insights and advance notice on menus. Go, have a perfect moment. read more

Just participated in the Murder Mystery dinner hosted by Nora. What a fun way to connect with friends during Covid and just the right amount of storyline, eating and reconnecting with friends. This place has amazing esthetics it makes you feel like your eating in France nice different open concept feel I loved it. The place is also relatively small which I like because I'm not a huge fan of over crowding. The food was amazing as well. My boyfriend got the special of the day which was steak, potatoes, bread and eggs. I got medium well boiled eggs with bread. I really enjoy that there menu is always changing and how different this place is compared to others. You must try if you haven't yet! read more

A perfect discovery for breakfast (we came two days in a row!) in the Cambridge area on our weekend up from NYC. Relaxed, light and airy ambience - great open kitchen, and lovely decor - tasteful without being overdone. And of course a delicious menu - not your regular (read heavy, cheesy, greasy) breakfast/brunch fare - interesting choices that are wholesome, filling and delectable- they even do soft-boiled eggs (don't often see those on the menu in American restaurants!) perfectly done with homemade bread soldiers - took me straight back to my childhood! The staff was friendly and engaging and it's great that they have profit-sharing in this relatively new establishment. Extremely disappointing dinner at Juliet. We had a reservation for two for the pommes sauvages tasting menu on a Saturday night. After being seated, we could not get the attention of a staff member for over 20 mins. The meal itself was poorly spaced (several of the dishes arriving in quick succession with long lull periods between). The food, although tasty, was not served hot - including the main event of roasted chicken. Overall the experience was far below expectations in so many ways. We will be having a "re-do" of this special occasion dinner elsewhere. read more

Easy and delicious takeout experience! Juliet's homemade pasta is delicious. It comes uncooked so you can make it fresh for whenever you are eating. The bolognese sauce came in its own container on the side and that was also amazing. It was a very generous portion of both sauce and pasta. The kale salad was my favorite item. Great dressing and flavor. It was just a few ingredients but it felt special. I'd also recommend the chocolate cake. We have been dying to try Juliet since it opened and, boy, are we sorry we waited so long. We went for dinner on a Friday night with a reservation. We didn't understand that reservations guaranteed prix fixe menu, but when we realized and asked to switch the hostess was more than accommodating and kind about it. We ate dinner at the counter and had a lovely conversation with the chef, Mara, throughout. Katrina helped us select our wine, even allowing us to sample the other varietal so we could make our decision. We ordered a charcuterie plate, kale salad, brandade, and tagliatelle Amatriciana. The first three came out first and wow. Even the little toasted baguettes were awesome. I loved the mousse on the charcuterie plate and my husband love the ham. I am not a huge pickle person and all of the pickled items were spot on and very flavorful. I loved how light the kale salad was. I have never had brandade before, but I really liked it. You got the flavor of the salty fish and the collard greens mixed with the creamy potatoes. We also split (which is totally cool by them.... they give you sharing plates!) the tagliatelle. It was fantastic. The little pieces of serrano ham were a great compliment to the pasta. We each ordered dessert- he the apple tarte and me the lemon tart. Both were exceptional. We will definitely be back. It was like eating dinner at your grandmother's house, which is also a neighborhood joint, which is also totally chill while being upscale. So incredibly over rated. We waited 2.5 hours for a table when they said it was a 1 hour wait, while there were multiple empty tables. We ordered the risotto, chilaquiles, and Benedict. Everything came out stone cold. The risotto was mushy and under seasoned, while the chilaquiles were soggy. We were extremely disappointed especially with the rave reviews. I love this place! We went this summer for the beach rose dinner and it was delicious. You can really tell that the chef takes his time withe every course and in every presentation. Had a lovely breakfast there on a very early Sunday morning. The staff was very very friendly, and I really appreciated that they let us have our 2-hour long conversation without checking on us every 5 minutes and 'here's your bill, take your time' but really just trying to get you out because there's a line outside. It felt like they didn't care we were there (and it's a compliment=) Food-wise, we didn't order anything special, but the jam was delicious (not very sweet). The bread and coffee were OK. One thing I wanted to point out is the abundance of material speaking about the whole 'no tip' thing. I've seen it printed on at least 5 pieces of collateral. It's a bit much. There are many ways an employer can treat their employees right even if he allows the tips, so to me all this hype felt a bit excessive. read more

One of our favorite places in town - we've been going regularly for dinner over the last one and a half years and it was always a pleasure. Expect to be treated like friends, where everyone seems to remember embarrassing details about what you like (e.g "she will order cheese and eat all of it"), and a wine pairing / recommendation from Katrina that is always on point with the well-prepared food that Josh and his team bring out from their open kitchen. We have never gone for their à la carte menu, only the prix fixe showings, and we always walk away full and happy. Did I mention that they pay a living wage, participate in a bunch of environmental awareness programs and are just general badasses? I've enjoyed a handful of their special productions (Beach Rose, Steakhouse, and Romeo's at Juliet), as well as their a la carte breakfast and dinner menu a number of times. The owners Josh & Katrina are wonderful to talk to and learn from, as are the chefs. Sitting at the bar and watching the open kitchen buzz is a really wonderful experience. Their approach to the restaurant is really inspiring (living wages i.e. no tipping, career oriented, participating in & supporting the neighborhood around them, local & seasonal food etc). Went for lunch on a weekend and was Strangely underwhelmed. We sat at the little bar and watched them prep our meal. Almost everything was pre prepped and came out of Tupperware containers and then was just heated up in a pan. We ordered about 5 items and I think all were pre prepped like this. Anyway... was fine and good food....but would not go back and was definitely a let down. We also were kind of laughing because the dishes took a very long time and there was minimal to no prep and not crowded. We were not in a rush but we had to ask if they remembered that we ordered a dish or 2 it took so long...and then watched the food pop out of little containers. read more

We went to Juliet after getting married at City Hall, so we wanted it to be a special event, and Juliet absolutely delivered. We booked a private lunch event for 20 people and the combination of Juliet's delicious food and reasonable pricing made it a perfect event. They were a pleasure to work with and were very flexible when I requested an all-vegetarian menu. The food was wonderful, especially the Juliet salad and Spanish tortilla, and the portions were generous - we ate the leftovers for lunch the next day. Our entire party was impressed and to be honest I was even surprised at how well everything turned out! I knew it would be good, but it really exceeded my expectations. Their no tipping policy extends to private events as well, which means we not only saved money (Juliet was surprisingly the most affordable option of several restaurants in the Camberville area), but we were also able to support a business that pays their staff a fair wage. Win-win! I also went to Juliet one time previously through a "Pay What You Can" reservation. Again, they were easily able to accommodate vegetarian options (ironically enough at a "steakhouse" themed dinner) and the dessert, some sort of chocolate mousse parfait thing, was TO DIE FOR. Food, drinks, and service was great, though I'm sure if we had paid full price it would have stung a bit. I love that they offer the Pay What You Can reservations as it really makes this type of dining experience more accessible. I would definitely suggest Juliet to anyone looking for a unique or special dining experience in the area, and especially to anyone booking a private event! read more

I really wanted to like this plave. Fair wage. Employees who actually seem happy. A fairly appealing menu. But, the food (at least the brunch) was disappoining. The smoked salmon eggs Benedict consisted on two sad and thin pieces of off color salmon on top of a half slice of plain white toast that had been drenched in olive oil and soggy. Despite no mention of them anywhere on the menu, there were capers littered over the entire plate. Everywhere. Which, if you like capers, must be awesome. Unfortunately, I don't fall into the caper living hole. To their credit, the coddled egg was cooked well, save for the egg shells that crunched between my teeth. A couple friends had the breakfast taco which was underseasoned with overcooked potatoes. Bummer. read more

Never before have I been to a restaurant or store and genuinely thought "I have to tell EVERYONE I know about this!". We were in the area looking for anywhere to eat and I could not be HAPPIER that we came across this restaurant-- I almost want to say it's the best place on earth. If I was a local, I would undoubtedly be here every day! The restaurant is amazingly decorated and so unique. There are books everywhere, including plants and unique vases/etc. There are so many options for seating and all of them are fantastic. There's nothing not to love; I even remember the napkins as being amazing! The pesto risotto with vegetables was absolutely delicious, as were the brown-sugar cinnamon lattes. The coffee is DIVINE. You will never want to drink your regular chain coffee again. We were also so surprised and impressed that they pay a living wage and don't make their servers depend on tips; I've never been to a restaurant that does that before!! Speaking of the customer service, everyone was so fantastic and kind and genuinely friendly. I want everyone I know to experience this restaurant! I wish I could have eaten breakfast, brunch, lunch, AND dinner there, but at least I have many reasons to return!! read more

There are many reasons to love this gem in the heart of Somerville. The first is that the food is frankly excellent--far better than any Italian fare you will find in Harvard Square. Made fresh right in front of you, their eclectic menu leans heavily into the pasta, cheese, and wine side of things. The service was outstanding, and we felt both welcomed and valued throughout our meal. The waiter, sommelier, and chefs were highly attentive, friendly, and full of helpful recommendations on what to order. We enjoyed everything thoroughly. 10/10 would go again! read more

Hummmm...if you are going to serve only pasta....it better be good! If you are only going to serve pasta....it better be hot! OK, it was a Sunday night in January so we are talking dinner. I can not comment on breakfast or lunch. We had the pizza (not really a pizza but a piece of foccia with sauce and cheese), Juliet Salad (excellent), ravioli and carbonarra (see my comments above), a cocktail and a bottle of red wine. Based on the ratings and reviews I will assume that i) it was a bad night; ii) they do a killer breakfast or lunch; iii) the prixe fix dinner is to die for or iv) we ordered poorly. Four of us went to Juliet on a Friday night unexpectedly. Two of us wanted a good burger and the other two had no preconceptions. I haven't been in a restaurant this disorganized in a long time. I like the concept of no tipping and limited menu but it only seats maybe 40 people and it took a long time for every step of the meal from being seated to paying the bill. It wasn't from a shortage of staff either. The food was nothing special. The burgers were so-so, the mussels were just OK and the fish tacos, while tasty, had potatoes and minimal fish.
