Since I love eating vegetarian I want to give this place 5 stars, but every time I walk into this place it just smells off. I just have to tell my brain it's ok, it's ok, it's ok and make my nose adjust to the funky smell so I can enjoy the food. I've had their chili and their mac and cheese. They were both delicious and I remember thinking this is a lot even between two people, we can't possibly eat it all, but we did. LoL. I didn't care for their tofu musubi. I pass by this store daily during the day's commute or even during my daily running workouts, but never gave it much thought when it opened for business earlier this year. At least, that's when I think Juicy Brew opened for business anyway. Veganism only has been a movement in recent years. Juicy Brew only enhances that experience thru offering its plethora of baked goods, delicious eats, and refreshing drinks. I happened to be drawn into their brownies, which looks so good to me. The other vegan cuisine that's offered here at Juicy Brew is definitely worth a shot in previewing. Never know what's vegan until you see it with your own eyes. They have a sign at the entrance of the café that they only do online ordering and local pick up at the store. During these uncertain times of COVID-19, best bet is to do the online ordering and pick up at your convenience. The takeout containers are earth friendly and the online ordering process is so easy! I ended up getting the brownies - of course - as well as the mochi. The loco moco that they served looked good as well, so I decided to pick one up too. For the most part though, the experience was basically a take out affair. No real interaction with the staff here until you pick up your order. They are very nice and friendly, by the way. Until the pandemic subsides and we can get back to normal living, this is the best we can do for a while! The overall experience here at Juicy Brew can be summed up in 2 words: excellent and seamless. I did enjoy the online ordering process, but I did miss the interaction between the staff when entering the café and receiving my order in the traditional way. I don't know what tastes better, the mochi or the brownies! Both are amazing and vegan inspired. Best part is the location, since it's relatively close to me and I can get them whenever they want in the heart of Kaimuki town. Juicy Brew is located at 3392 Waialae Avenue, right next to Kaimuki Ace Hardware next door and Zippy's Kaimuki across the street. They accept major credit cards, since they are conducting their business online currently. As far as parking goes, best bet would be the nearby residential areas for available spaces. There are street parking meters in front of the store itself, but they're usually occupied most of the day and evening anyway. If you are like me, bus routes 1, 1L, and 9 come thru the area and stops nearby. You can also use route 13, but it stops on St. Louis Drive, so you'll have to walk a few blocks to the café. What can I say about Juicy Brew? I just wished that I can enjoy the café experience without COVID interrupting every aspect of our lives. If you were curious as to how vegan cuisine is like, consider this an invitation to try some, if you are in the area. I would definitely recommend ordering first online before coming on over to pick up. The café seems relatively small from what I could see from outside. Looks cozy though. Looking forward to returning again when things get a bit back to normal. In the meantime, feel free to order online and partake in delicious vegan dishes and sweets you know and love. Best bet would be the brownies and the mochi. You won't regret it or even miss the traditional ones you find elsewhere. My GOD. I haven't posted a review on Yelp in...a long time. But I feel the need to shout from the rooftops how good this place is. I used to be a non-regular, coming only when I was in the area. Now that I've moved down the street, I am going to be here A LOT. Their menu is VAST and has a complete range of flavors. When I was a newbie vegan, I thought their food sounded like it had too many earthy flavors. What an idiot I was! So far my favorites have been (and when I say favorites, I mean LIFE CHANGING): The breakfast sandwich, the furikake tofu katsu burger, the savory pastry, and the yuzu Bundt cake with mango glaze. I am working on making my way through their entire menu! One of my favorite things about this place is the fact that they post their menu everyday on their Instagram page, bright and early. Which is great news because they're always tweaking their menu almost everyday (also another thing I love)! One of the best vegan foods I've ever had in my life. We had the Korean BBQ sandwich, the bibimbap type dish, the 'carnitas,' the Mac and cheeze, and the yuzu cake. OMG. I'm exploring vegan options outside of Whole Foods and Down to Earth. A girl in my class last semester said she worked here and my professor also said they loved the food here so I needed to try it for myself. Took a while, but it's okay. On Sunday's they offer only vegan, and today happened to be Greek themed. The young lady at the register was very nice and helpful. I loved the energy she was giving. I got a "loco moco". It's a beet patty topped with tofu infused with turmeric (tofu scramble) on brown rice and vegan gravy. I tell everyone about my juicy brew obsession. I can't help it. The moment I began a soft-core vegan, i was on the hunt for vegan restaurants that didn't only serve tofu everything. Juicy brew is the spot! Parking for the Waialae location can be a little tricky, but it's usually easy to find street parking on the adjacent streets- metered and unmetered. When you walk in, they have a good selection of grab and go items- both foods and drinks that can be heated or taken cold. Drinks can be served in a disposable and eco friendly cup. The food at juicy brew is really something special! I love their sammies and usually grab more than one to enjoy later. Ulu lasagna is amazing and we had purchased it once for a party for vegans and non-vegans...it was enjoyed by all. Tofu poke is not your typical tofu poke- they really add something different to it that makes it tasty and enjoyable. Next time you see cookies or mochi on the counter, you HAVE to try one...I have yet to have a bad dessert there- ever! read more

The sisters Hee, founders of Juicy Brew, have been introducing the community to amazing ingredients like cassava,'ulu, kalo, and jackfruit for years now. They are known for their wholesome dishes and gather produce from farms, food hubs, and small growers. What keeps me going back weekly is their vegan brunch and amazing staff. Brunch is every Saturday and Sunday at the Waialae location from 10am-3pm.  The "mezze platter" dish from earlier this month featured produce from six, count em SIX, different farms. Just ordered and did a curbside pick-up for my late lunch. Was starving and knew that I needed a healthy meal. Initially ordered the lasagne but got a phone call apologizing that it was sold out so I got the tamale instead! So yummy, and because the tamale was cheaper, I got a free dessert! Got the mochi! Delicious, wholesome food by badass lady chefs! I've been following them for quite some time and have been by for the grab and go food but the thing that solidified the 5 stars was BRUNCH. Brunch yo face off, as they call it on instagram, is a weekly affair loaded with flavorful vegan dishes. Here is the run down of what we tried: 1. Ulu cinnamon roll- available in gluten and gluten free. The gluten one was AWESOME. Delicious and HUGE. Def could be a meal on its own. 2. Pumpkin waffle with cream (coconut?) and berry compote..... YUM. Brown sugar, cranberries, etc make this the perfect fall breakfast dish. 3. Loco Moco- a flavorful favorite! Taro burger with a rich mushroom gravy and a tofu scramble. Not many people would think of making a vegan version of the loco moco but daymn this one works! This is a great vegan place for carnivores to experience also. Had the breakfast bagel sandwhich here and an americano with "mocha". Overall the food here is definitely good, but the reason I'm giving it 3 stars is that first parking is difficult in this area. The street meters only take quarters. 2, there was no A/C, well the ac was on but it just wasn't working. And the cafe itself is tiny so I was just sitting in a small steam box trying to eat my sandwhich. On top of that when I ordered my drink with the cashier and politely asked if they had white mocha syrup or something similar/any flavored syrup to add to my americano, she gave me attitude and told me they weren't Starbucks. This is one of the biggest reasons why I hesitate on trying out more vegan food or establishments because the ones I've encountered are always super judgmental. Sorry I don't go to Starbucks much but any other local establishments has white mocha or other syrups? The uncomfortableness of the cashier and how hot it is inside is not worth it for me even though the food is pretty good. And my coffee wasn't even that good either. read more

This was my first visit to JB's Waialae Ave store. I had been to the Hale Pawaa Medical Building location. Recently I have been following them on IG where they announce and describe their 'Brunch Your Face Off' weekend menu. It is different every weekend. Location: On mauka side of Waialae Ave...sort of opposite Town Restaurant, @ 8th and Waialae. There is some metered street parking in that area. You could get lucky. Personally, I've had just a bit of frustration with the parking. Venue: Tiny 1950's shop designed for eating in. Simple shop and you order at the counter or get some grab and go items. Pay at the iPad 'Square' system. I love the fast easy pay systems. They bring the food out to you. Brunch: I've had some grab and go items at Hale Pawaa, like the breakfast burrito, a sandwich plus drinks. But I really really wanted to try some of the week's brunch items, freshly prepared. And that is what I did. One: Tortang Talong. This is a classic Filipino Dish which was somehow, amazingly, deconstructed and transformed into a satisfying vegan dish. I don't know who is responsible for this dish but they deserve recognition of some sort for this. So, grilled eggplant, vegan omelet batter (like a thick crepe or thin pancake), red peppers, onions, spicy vegan sausage, salty vegan fish paste, and masterful seasoning magic. This was a 5-star creative vegan dish. I was pleasantly surprised. I wish I had better descriptive words to explain this experience. I was simply unprepared for this level of unique flavors. Two: Vegan Loco Moco. Greens added on for $3. I wondered why the take out container weighed 2.5 pounds. Brown Rice, house-made vegan burger, mushroom gravy, tofu egg scramble, and expert seasoning that was extraordinary. It was so huge that I ate half for dinner and half for breakfast. The greens tasted like collard greens with bacon, but of course, they were vegan. The burger seasoning was perfect. A 'Beyond" burger might seem like a logical meat substitute. The house-made burger was a better choice because of the tasty seasoning. The mushroom sauce complemented the whole package. 5 Star Food: Poor parking and a hole in the wall shop. Every Sunday Juicy Brew has a new vegan menu and because of this, I try to make it there as much as I can. The creativity here astounds me as they have unique dishes that I have not been able to find anywhere else. I really like how the focus is on fresh local ingredients. The dining area is small and the kitchen is big, but don't let that stop you from coming. The food is so good here! Besides their ever changing Sunday vegan menu, there are also many already made food items in their display case. Lots of these are vegan as well. Absolutely delicious! My friend and I stopped in Juicy Brew for lunch today after a hike. We are both mostly plant based and were looking for a yummy and healthy lunch. Neither of us had ever been there before and we both left super impressed. I had the tempeh Reuben sandwich that came with a side salad. The bread was toasted well and had nice flavor. There was a generous portion of tempeh that tasted so good! It was topped with what tasted like braised red cabbage and maybe a picked onion. The flavors all mixed really well together. It was savory but had some sweetness from the cabbage. Super good!! I also had an iced tea lemonade that was really tasty. It was a green tea which I really liked and it was very refreshing on a warm day. My friend ordered the tofu poke and said it was amazing. She said it had the right amount of salt and the tofu was really flavorful. She also ordered the white bean soup which she said was also delicious. It had large chucks of veggies and big white beans. Very hearty. She said it was a really nice classic soup. The restaurant has a cute seating area that is colorful and comfortable with big umbrellas. Definitely will be back! The squash curry was very homey-like in a Japanese home kind of way (yes I'm mostly Chinese but I know!) I went back a 5th time and I can't remember posting a food photo that needed no adjustment of brightness, contrast, exposure, etc. Likewise, it tastes and textures so explicitly yummy I cannot imagine a more perfect incarnation of these two dishes. The temperature, the soft chewy crispness, the sweetly savory blend of saliva inducing goodness. The Juicy Brew chef is just that good. Beet Curry! Inspired by Sri Lanka. I was like what are those potato like things in the curry and she was like Ulu (breadfruit!) I love Indian curry! I love beets! Together is uncannily good! And the breakfast croissant sandwich with chicken organic sausage, egg white, cheese, and spinach was so perfectly punctuated I was almost dazzled. I went back a 6th time and I feel like I'm in the magical version of a Korean food where yes, there are 8 dozen ingredients and I can recognize about 6 of them, but it's not too wet, not too spicy, not too complex, somehow both vegan and very tasty, somehow both gluten free and satisfying, somehow all made freshly from the arms of one tiny hapa woman from veggies from small kine farmers, and somehow not break the bank expensive. Oh and it's walking distance from me. My favorite noodle! Yam noodle chewy and a little thick and transparent and she made it fuchsia to boot! I heard there was jackfruit, sea asparagus, tofu, sunchoke, Miso ginger, watermelon radish, and and and I'm sorry I didn't get a photo of the rest of the ingredients! I've tried the no-bake chocolate dipped, the no-bake tiramisu, and the no-bake matcha dessert, but somehow I just can't let go my American penchant for condensed milky oversweetness. There are two four-top tables and six stools facing Waialae avenue if you want to eat in. Parking is on the street, there's usually something in the neighborhood. IF you want to pay the meter, park on Waialae. You'll like Juicy Brew if: You love Kaimuki Suprette but you're one of those gluten-free people and can't eat sandwiches. I have been waiting for the Kaimuki location to open as I haven't been able to make out to their other shop so on opening day I got myself over here and went on a shopping binge. Now I knew going in this was healthy food but to be perfectly honest, the menu was more broad than expected and had a good amount of choices to appease even the biggest health food or vegan skeptic. Vegan baba ganoush, two different vegan curries, pitaya chia tapioca, vegan burrito and breakfast sandwiches along with lots of baked goods donned the case when I came in. They also did have meat choices like an organic chicken pesto melt, an organic Italian sausage breakfast sandwich along with a turkey breakfast sandwich. Fresh squeezed juicers were made to order in house which was lovely. There were also various salads. I wound up ordering a juice, a muffin, the chicken pesto & Italian breakfast sausage sandwiches and a chickpea & kale curry for my boyfriend and I to share. My juice was healthy & refreshing, both sandwiches delicious. I took the muffin and curry to work the next day fur lunch and was more satisfied than I would expect for having no meat. The menu rotates but I don't think you can come on a bad day. They have something to make everyone happy. Parking is a bit annoying but I'd say looking on the side streets is worth it. Service here was great. Called to place an order to pick up the food was ready upon arrival. I ordered the split pea soup. Well seasoned cooked to perfection. This is honestly the best split pea soup I've had before. It's seriously that good! Also i tried the Korean burger. I've never had this type of burger before so i don't know what to compare it to. I do think it's too much going on with the burger it's like grilled vegetables etc on top of a patty, not sure what the patty was made of but it was super hard i could hardly break it apart with my hands. I don't care to have this burger ever again, it was good nice flavors, but nothing impressive that i must have this again. But if i could have that split pea soup everyday i would! read more
