I have ordered a couple of birthday cakes from Joyce Bakery and have gotten exactly what I asked for each time! Looked perfect! They are easy to work with and very affordable when compared to other bakeries making the same products! It's best if you are able to provide a picture, simply e-mail them at joycebakery@yahoo.com with the photo and details/questions you may have. If you e-mail them that first and then call them referencing your e-mail, they are able to assist you quickly, rather than going back and forth or driving in. But just know some cakes will require you stopping in to pay a portion up front. I just completed ordering a "naked" cake for our upcoming baby shower and look forward to seeing the end result. Update: Attaching a photo of the beautiful cake made for our baby shower. This was made with buttercream in error but was still delicious! Not at all overly sweet, which is usually why I stir clear of buttercream. Filling was pineapple and the outcome was simply delicious. We've been coming to Joyce's Bakery for my daughter's last 2 birthday cakes. They make the most beautiful cakes at such a decent price. Although the prices have gone up, it's still such a great deal. Also the cakes are delicious. As my little one says, "so fresh and delicious". She had a Minnie Mouse Cake one year and a Snow White one this past year. If you need a cake that's yummy and at a reasonable price. I would come here! They had about 3 unicorn cakes on order when we went to pick up and they were all so gorgeous! For our daughter's first birthday, I wanted a custom smash cake just for her. The small bakery itself is located in a strip mall on Rosecrans Ave. I read a few reviews that said that the Joyce Bakery employees seemed disinterested when they walked in the bakery. To counter that, just get their attention. The ladies I talked to in person and the gentleman on the phone are all very nice, they are just focused in my opinion. From the start, I knew that our daughter's cake from this Asian bakery would most likely not be very sweet. That was my intention. No one else would be eating it. She turned 1 for crying out loud and doesn't need to load up on sugar already. But I did try it with her as she made a pleasant mess for all of her birthday guests to see. The chocolate mousse filling and the chocolate cake were both very light, airy... and you guessed it, not very sweet. The buttercream frosting was a bit more sweet, but not overwhelming by any means. What I presumed to be the main baker in charge, an older lady, charged me $30 instead of the usual $35 for a 6" cake. That was the smallest size cake they could make. While it seemed a bit overkill for an almost toddler to dig into, it was worth it in my opinion because one thing I do not do hardly any of is baking. I ordered this cake on May 30 in person. (Thanks for the free cookie for the baby girl, by the way!) I arranged to pick it up at noon on her birthday, which was July 3. The younger employee had legible handwriting. That may seem like a simple idea, but I think it goes a long way especially in the food industry. Both of the ladies suggested that I call earlier that week to make sure everything was going okay. I did. The gentleman who answered the phone even mentioned that they received my picture idea via email just fine. If you ask, they can give you samples if they are readily available... at least they did for another family that was there when we were. The cake was more beautiful than I had anticipated. I had no issues waiting for the cake or anything, so that to me warrants 5 stars in my book especially since another bakery just down the street from Joyce Bakery made me wait for about 5 minutes (& another bigger issue, but I'm not spilling those beans on this review...). I was looking around my neighborhood for a reasonably priced bakery that was not only good at making cakes look pretty and did not lack in taste for my baby shower cake. After obtaining quotes from a few, I decided to choose Joyce bakery. I spoke to Joanne for the initial cake plan and a week later, finalized the design and flavors with Michelle. I was also able to taste a bite of the vanilla and chocolate cake but the final flavors were vanilla and fresh strawberries (bottom tier) and lemon with fresh strawberries (top tier). I was unable to taste the lemon cake since not a lot of folks order it...I simply had to trust that it would be as good as the vanilla and chocolate cake. One day before pick up, I called Joanne to ensure she did not have any questions about the cake. She reviewed my order and ensured the colors were correct. I felt a little better checking in before pick up date but was still a little nervous about the outcome. On the day of pick up, my mom went with me for pick up and the cake looked super cute and tasted very moist. The only slightly difficult task was the transport from bakery to home. Joanne gave very good instructions on how to keep it intact and I was fortunate not living too far from the bakery. I was very pleased with my cake and my design was $110. I purchased the baby shoes on top since I am not a fondant fan.
