Easily one of my favorite XLB spots in South Bay! The wrappers are thicker, which I personally prefer over the Din Tai Fung style soup dumplings with super thin wrappers. These are the juiciest XLBs I have ever had, better than Din Tai Fung! The skin here is more on the delicate side so I would not recommend eating them with chopsticks bc they will break and spill precious soup everywhere...a bit unconventional but I eat these with my hands lol. Taste better piping hot so I eat these in the car...do what you gotta do during these covid times. --Crab and pork XLB: get these!! Crab really shines thru it's an umami bomb. So much juice! --Pork XLB-great pork flavor, juicy, but whenever i eat these i'm thinking that it would be better if there was crab --Loofah Shrimp XLB: compared to the pork ones, these are not as umami and have a lighter flavor but just as juicy. Big chunks of loofah and the only spot I know that serves these. Bc of lighter flavor I use more of the dipping sauce for these. --Steam fish dumpling: Good, dumpling skin thicker side. Not super fishy, nice clean flavor. --Siu mai: taste different than the ones at dim sum spots. I'm pretty sure the meat is the same mixture as the XLB but way less juicy. Ate here on a Saturday evening, around 6:00pm. There was no wait, and they had indoor dining with COVID-19 safe protocols. All staff members were wearing masks and had hand sanitizers in sight. When cleaning tables after a party was finished, the staff cleaned each table thoroughly. We ordered the pork soup dumplings and the shrimp soup dumplings. SO GOOD with the side of soy sauce/ginger that they provide for you. I like a little spice so I asked for chili oil and chili sauce and it just added an extra OOOF to the food. We also ordered the salted tofu..not too sure what the same is but that was really good. I loved the scallion pancakes, the thin one. Customer service was great and the ladies there were nice. One of the most authentic Taiwanese joints I've had in the Bay Area! We got shrimp fried rice, braised pork with steamed buns, mince pork rice, green beans, beef pancakes, and a lot of xiaolongbao. Shrimp fried rice: basic, cheap, filling, delicious - picture doesn't show much shrimp but when we dug in there were lots of pieces on the bottom. Rice was fried well, individual grains coated and fragrant. No complaints! Braised pork with steamed buns: delicious slow braised pork. Dong po rou is hard to translate directly but it is a super Taiwanese dish and I was very happy to find a place that serves it in the Bay Area. For those who don't like fatty meats, this is not the dish for you, it uses pork belly sections with lots of fat to get that melt in your mouth meat umami. The sauce is sweet and savoury and goes well with steam buns. Only thing missing is a picked veggie side to cut through the meatiness. If they had that Taiwanese sauerkraut this would be a 5/5 from me. Mince pork rice is not on the online menu but get it! Best bang for buck. Great mince pork, but again needed the sauerkraut to hit 5/5 for me. Maybe I just forgot to ask for it? :( Beef pancakes: don't think take out serves this dish well. I'm sure it takes so much better fresh but since CoVID is still full throttle, I would recommend the fried rice and dong po Rou and minced pork as take out options. Ordered juicy pork dumpling, green onion pancake, fried golden milk buns, and fried chicken with bell pepper. Pork dumpling had thin skin, plenty of meat, and juice is not too much that a fork would cause it to spill out. The soup base itself inside the dumpling is a mix between sour and bitter. Green onion pancake came out hot, but there was however too much flour because when I took a bite inside, flour residue stuck on my mouth. Golden milk buns fried, but has no crisp except a taste of plain bread. With the sweet sauce dipped, the plain bread finally became wet. Fried chicken with bell are fried and then stir fried with bell peppers. If you are expecting any form of crispy or crunchy just because of the name, well think again. Stopped by for early dinner when the restaurant was half full. We tried the crab and pork XLB, loofa shrimp XLB, shao mai, and pea shoots fried with garlic. We thought the loofah shrimp was the best of the bunch. The crab and pork XLB had a nice thin wrap and was very juicy but we didn't care for the yellow sauce that tasted like egg yolk inside the dumpling since the broth was already rich to begin with. The shao mai was good but nothing that stood out from other dim sum places. The pea shoots were fresh and flavorful but also somewhat stringy and tough. The service was excellent, especially since two servers were taking care of about 10 tables and gave plenty of attention to each. A cheaper and authentic alternative to din tai fung, their dumplings are filled with soup and just the right size. 生煎包 is also good, plus the other varieties of dumplings. So many other items i want to try from the menu and I'll be back for sure. If you're not in the mood for dumplings, they have plenty of stir fry/hot dishes to choose from. Their sand pot soups is humongous and loaded; it is absolutely perfect for a chilly day. Lot of dishes on the menu I would go back to try, but everything we ordered was delicious. Service was a little laggy- it was busy and we had to get up and chase down staff to get help with taking order, more tea, another tea cup, serving ware etc etc. One waiter would catch our eyes and then promptly ignore us! Yas for the XLB and yay for offering the beef noodle soup & pork minced rice. Their price is pretty reasonable in my opinion, and their pork dumpling was so good and juicy. I'd definitely be back for their xlb. As for their beef noodle soup, I loved that they separated the noodles and soup - you know, so the noodles won't get soggy when you get home. I liked the texture of the noodle, but both my parents weren't a big fan of their beef noodle soup. The pork minced rice was a very good value for their price. It's not overpriced like the other restaurants so I'll most likely be back for this again. However, I'll probably be bringing cash for this place next time around since they're offering SIP discount if paid with cash, and as many people mentioned, there's a $25 credit card minimum. I really did have a joyful moment munching on these 3 dishes:Taiwanese braised pork rice, steamed fish dumplings, and beef roll. Nice value too at $23 for 2 full portions. The dumpling is beautifully pleat wrapped round like a soup dumpling--how cool. And it was packed with flavorful filling. Both the texture and taste of the beef roll were spot on. Another time I had a great experience with their salted egg tofu and Xiang gan rou si/shredded pork with bean curd, and pork soup dumpling. The thick yilan green onion pancake was too oily though. And the recipe for sweet/sour fish fillet unfortunately veered away from traditional Chinese. I am excited to try their shrimp fried rice and hot and sour soup based on other positive reviews! I'm torn between a 3 and a 4 here because the good stuff was good but the underwhelming stuff was underwhelming. The good stuff: green onion pancake with beef and cucumber. YUM. Braised pork rice -- YUM. Green beans with salted egg -- I liked it, but my honey didn't. We also got pork XLBs and beef dumplings and for a place that's ostensibly a dumpling place, these were disappointing. Food was good - especially the red bean pancake, salted egg string bean, soup dumpling. But they rush the service so much that it's hard to want to stay here or come back. Our sui Mai came out uncooked and had to be redone They rush to take your order and tell you that if you don't order now, everything will be delayed. When we got there and placed our order, they asked if I wanted the red bean pancake right away or later. I said later. Then when I asked for it, we waited 20 mins... then I followed up and then the waiter scolded us that it's cause we asked for it later. I told her to then cancel it and then another waiter came back out with the dish in less than a minute. Totally unnecessary to fight with your customers. Parking was pretty easy, dining room was spacious and sparsely seated, service was very friendly but on the slower side which is just fine so we have time to chat and catch up. This space has changed over a number of times recently from an XLB place to a Malaysian/pan-Asian restaurant, now back to a Taiwanese style place... and honestly I've liked them all! The menu is expansive with many traditional Taiwanese dishes along with dim sum options. We had the: 3 cup chicken: flavorful, tender chicken XLB: pretty good, average for this area, not filled with much soup if that's how you generally prefer them. Egg Yolk Tofu: omg this was deeeelicious. Tofu fried in a egg yolk batter with some thinly chopped vegetables. This was the yummiest thing I've eaten recently! Highly recommend. Scallion egg pancakes: good Pea shoots: perfectly cooked Vegetable Fried rice: well flavored and yummy, which can be hard for some restaurants to achieve when there is no meat. It has 3.5 star. The food is good overall, but nothing very memorable. This dumpling place is big and clean. I order take out for 4 things at the restaurant and the server told me they will take 20 minutes, but they are done less than that time. The service is good and fast; and the server is efficient and friendly. I order the following: 1.) Shrimp Loofah Dumpling (絲瓜蝦仁小籠包) - It is good. The outside dough is thin with good texture. It has whole shrimp inside that cut in half mixed with loofah pieces. The overall taste is flavorful, light and refreshing. But I feel it could add more loofah piece to further enhance the flavor. 2.) XLB with crab meat (蟹粉小籠包) - It is average. The dumpling is good overall, but I crab flavor is so light that I can barely taste it and pretty much just taste like original XLB. The outside dough is thin with good texture. The inside meat filling is solid while the taste is balanced. 3.) Duck Egg Yolk Loofah (鹹蛋絲瓜) - This dish is great. The loofah itself is fresh, tasty, and not bitter at all. The duck egg yolk sauce taste great and balance perfectly with the natural flavor of the loofah. I definitely will recommend this dish if you are a loofah fan like me. 4.) Pickle Cabbage Soup with Beef (酸白菜牛肉鍋) - This soup is good too. The pickle cabbage is sour in nature, so the soup is on the sour side, which personally I like the taste of pickle cabbage. This is a great alternative if you prefer not to wait forever and pay the exuberant high prices at Ding Tai Fung at Valley Fair. My friends and I wanted to get some Chinese food for lunch and based off of the good Yelp reviews, we chose to try Joy Dumpling. They have ample parking and their menu is posted on the window so you can look while you wait to order. We ordered the Pork Soup Dumplings, Scallion Pancakes, Green Beans and Veggie Fried Noodles. The dumplings were okay, but were nothing to write home about. The scallion pancakes were good, especially when eaten with the dipping sauce. The green beans were also very good. None of us liked the noodles. They didn't have a good flavor and we were expecting more of a chow mein type of noodle as opposed to a chow fun noodle. POT STICKERS WITH PORK AND CHIVE: these are so good and somehow SO juicy. it's almost on the same juiciness level as an XLB. the last couple times ive gotten this ive squirted juice across the table so be mindful of that! GREEN ONION PANCAKE: these are a little on the dense side so i don't get them ~all the time~ but i've had worse. not the greatest, but a general good pancake. FRIED PEA SHOOTS WITH GARLIC: idk what it is about a vegetable stir fried in oil and garlic. it just makes my day. pea shoots are always good and never overdone where they're kind of hard and chewy. love it! FRIED STRING BEANS WITH GARLIC: see above ^ they don't always cut the ends but whatever! always perfectly done imo. super flavorful, not overly salty. STEAMED SOLE FISH: this is the classic cantonese steamed fish with the sweet leaning soy sauce glaze ... it's so good. just like home! i dont see many places have this on the menu so i'm stoked about it! MAPO TOFU: literally my favorite thing to get when i'm here!! i haven't found any place that makes it as spicy as i want it. would highly recommend this, but only if you can handle your spice. The newly opened Joy Dumpling (located in the TP Tea plaza) offers mostly Taiwanese fare, with a hint of fusion due to their dim sum and soup dumplings. They opened in mid-February and are still in the soft opening stage, so they are still ironing out some issues. For instance, when we went, they hadn't gotten their credit card system up yet, so they were only taking cash as payment. Food-wise, Joy Dumpling is pretty solid. I always try the standard soup dumplings at any xiao long bao joint, and their juicy pork dumplings (6 for $6.95) were excellent. The wrapper was thin but didn't tear, the filling was very tender and flavorful, and there was just the right amount of soup. One of my go-to Taiwanese foods is braised pork rice (lu rou fan), so I definitely wanted to try it when I saw that Joy Dumpling offered it. This was written in on the menu in Chinese as 香噴噴魯肉飯 -- I can't recall if they had an English name for it, but it was $5.95 for a large bowl. Unfortunately, I don't have a photo because it wasn't arranged that attractively and we divvied up the portions asap. However, this dish was quite excellent -- it was full of flavor, came with a braised soy sauce egg, and had a lot more meat than I was expecting. There wasn't quite as much fatty meat as I'd like in typical lu rou fan, but that just means it's marginally healthier than usual, right? We also ordered their beef pancake rolls to see how they compared to those from Liang Mama. I can't remember the price, but it was pretty good. I liked that they didn't skimp on the green onions in the scallion pancake. There is a small slice of cucumber in the rolls, which was unexpected but pleasant. Nevertheless, it can't compare to Liang Mama's. For vegetables, we got the dry sauteed string bean (gan bian si ji dou, $12.95). This was the one dish that was kind of a dud -- the string beans seemed to have been overcooked a bit and there wasn't that much flavor. If you're into Taiwanese food or xiao long bao but don't want to wait at Din Tai Fung, I recommend checking out Joy Dumpling! We didn't see any hours listed in the restaurant, but a waitress said they were open for lunch from 11:00 to 2:30. Not sure about their dinner hours. read more

Tried the garlic stirred fried cabbage and the beef steamed dumplings. I am impressed! One of the best places in the Bay area. Good quality Asian food isn't as common as one would think.
