I moved to CT from Boston a few years back, and was having the toughest time finding good spots to eat, especially breakfast. This is by far our favorite breakfast place!!! The food is unbelievable!!! Try the Reuben Omelet, you won't regret it! (Service is a bit slow, getting seated took a while, but it's totally worth it!) read more

Service is incredible, they are all friendly and real. Food portions are large. Will definitely come back.

I am a breakfast fiend, so once my fiance and I found our new apartment I insisted we check out the local breakfast place. SO GLAD we did! As with every new breakfast place I try I went right for the Eggs Benedict, given the option of 1 or 2 eggs I went for it and got the latter. I also opted to replace the traditional English muffin with the marble rye freshly baked in house. The home fries were crispy yet fluffy, and perfectly seasoned. The marble rye was soft and delicious and held it's own under the pile of eggs, maple ham, and sauce. The hollandaise was simply the most velvety, perfect hollandaise I have ever had... and i have had A LOT of hollandaise (no fake stuff here! our server let me know it was freshly made that morning). My fiance's got a big breakfast with eggs, sausage, and house made cinnamon swirl bread and was extremely pleased with his perfectly cooked eggs and the amazing toast. The service was extremely friendly and attentive and we were sat promptly when we walked in. Despite it being a Sunday morning they seem to have a quick turnover rate and we didn't see too many people waiting although the restaurant was full the entire time we were there. Overall, I am looking forward to eating many, many more breakfasts here. read more

What a cool joint! My wife and I often drive from West Hartford to Olympia Diner for some breakfasty grub but one of my Yelp friends (I can't recall who) posted a nice review of this place that really made me want to try it. I am so glad I did. When we walked in another patron raved about the place and said "I can't get eggs benedict elsewhere because I will always compare it to this place." My food was super awesome so I can understand why she said that. I ordered one blueberry pancake (Huge, fluffy, chock full of blueberries) and two eggs over medium with a side of home fries, bacon and some of their amazing homemade rye toast. The waitress asked if I wanted sauted onions with my home fries. I said yes but sort of regretted it (not because it was bad, because I am not a huge fan of cooked onions). The homefries were still amazing. Crisp (without my having to order them well done) and flavorful, even with the onions. The bacon....oh the bacon. This wasn't your run of the mill breakfast joint floppy stuff. This was thick cut with a nice mix of fat but it was all still crisp and not floppy in the least. The rye...the rye was super hearty (only 1 slice is provided and only 1 is needed). My wife ordered the hash, cheese and onion omelet and I had a bite and it was delicious. She ate approximately half of it (it appeared to be a 6 egg omelet). The waitresses were all super sweet too. I really liked this place and will surely return. read more

I guess I just found myself a new favorite place for breakfast. Omelettes are moist and very delicious. The home fries with sautéed onions are perfectly cooked. They have grits! I love it! They also bake a variety of breads in house that are perfect. Wasn't too crazy about the coffee but the overall experience makes me want to come back for more. read more

Anniversary Breakfast! My -1 star is for the pricing, which strikes me as a bit expensive. There's also no catch-all combo, where you get a little of almost everything for one reasonable price. We were here on, sigh... Election Day. And it was packed. Since it's a Tuesday that not necessarily everyone has off, they were understaffed - three girls working all the tables, from seating, through ordering, through bussing, through checking out. But despite this, they whirled around the restaurant, getting the job done. Our order was out before long. Good stuff - the homemade breads, gigantic pancakes (2 is enough at most), unique omelets, bottomless coffee. Excellent choice for you Berliners - especially if Berlin Fare is closed :). read more

Honestly, what's all the hype? Mediocre at best. The decor looks a little run down, we waited for over an hour for our food, and the coffee was horrendous. Literally, we couldn't even drink it. They make their own bread, which was nice, but the meal overall suffered. We ordered omelettes which were just ok, and they came with side of homefries (which apparently get rave reviews) that were overcooked, greasy, and over seasoned. Pass on this place. Plenty of better options around. read more

Great breakfast sandwiches, and French toast. Very friendly service, warm welcome and fast service.

Who knew that I was passing this little gem for the last 14 years on the way to Cutting Edge where my son buys this skateboard gear just next door. I decided to try a favored Yelp choice today and was not disappointed. As hubby and I walked in we saw a fairly packed place at 10 a.m ,but still found a nice booth with a big sunny window which I loved . Charleen our waitress saw us as we walked in and immediatly brought us menus. She had a great attitude and gave us good service the whole time we were there. We 1st ordered two coffees milk only which I must say I loved the coffee here. Usually it's too bitter or weak ,but this was good joe. Giving us ample time to order she sat with us and began taking our order which was terribly easy we got the same meal. Two eggs scrambled with home fries white toast and steak medium. The steak was nice it was plump & juicy & cooked perfectly, but could have used some good ole seasoning on it . A little A-1 sauce should do the trick for that . Home fries were decent ,but I should have listened to my fellow Yelper to ask for the potatoes with onion version . They were a little on the crispy side for my taste. Eggs were scrambled soft which is the best way I think to have with a steak . I can't wait to come back again to try more breakfast choices as their we're so many that sounded good . read more

I have been to this restaurant many times but it must be noted that todays experience was awful. We got to the restaurant, which was very busy, and waited about 20 minutes while others gathered behind us. Although many employees walked by, there was no communication at all until a table was free. This was told to us in passing by a waitress that just pointed us in the direction of the open table. Not a real greeting, just a slide by and point. Again, it was busy, so we continued on not worrying about the lack of customer service. Once seated we got our coffees and placed our orders within five minutes. Half an hour passes by and still no food or indication that our basic breakfast meals were being prepped. Another 20 minutes and I'm noticing orders coming out for the customers that had arrived 15 minutes or so after us as well as pickup orders are coming out. Another 20 mins of waiting with nothing. We decided to leave when I noticed one of the line cooks comes out from the back to make casual conversation with customers. We quickly paid for our coffees and headed out of the door after an hour and twenty minutes. Our waitress seemed to be doing most of the work on the floor. I don't blame her for the disorganization but it was apparent that their lack of staffing while still servicing pickup orders was partly to blame. There was no offer to nibble on our butter rum muffin while we waited an hour for our eggs, pancake, biscuit and gravy, toast to be prepared. Overpriced, lack of creativity with their menu, and horrible service...we will not be returning. read more

When I first walked into Josie's, I had the same feeling that I have whenever I enter a longstanding local diner for the first time: that all the regulars are watching and judging me. I sat at the middle of the bar, which was empty except for one fellow at the end, and my feeling was quickly done away with by a sweet, friendly, and extremely capable server named Abby who was working her first day there. I came here for the "house omelet", an Italian-style creation with ricotta, mozzarella, pepperoni, and marinara - not a combination that you see everywhere. It tasted like what you'd expect, a cross between a pizza and an omelet, which is to say, excellent. Ricotta needs to find its way into more omelets. The home fries, however, were the unexpected star, and as distinctive as the omelet. When I ordered them, I was asked if I wanted onions, which was a first; I said yes, of course, and they took an extra minute to bring me a fresh order. Very glad they did, because these particular home fries benefit immensely from freshness. The onions were tender, sweet, not caramelized but the next best thing, and providing so much flavor that for once I didn't need pepper, ketchup, or anything else. So delicious were these home fries that I had trouble tearing myself away from them to return to the omelet! (Abby informed me that she hadn't yet tried any of the food, so I gave these an enthusiastic recommendation.) Tip-top experience, in both food and service. You know you've found a gem of a place when you leave in a significantly better mood than when you arrived. I intend to go back and work my way through the rest of their omelets. And then I'll move on to the Benedicts. read more

Stopped here on a road trip. Service was great and we all enjoyed our food. I got the hash Benedict which was delicious and filling!

First time here, and I'm not a fan of breakfast food. We went because it was a rare Sunday together and the other half loves breakfast. So of course, here we went on a Yelp hunch for something close by. SO WORTH IT! I was nervous when we got inside and there was a line wait at nearly noon, but it went quickly. We sat down and everyone who works there is very personable and helpful. It was kind of a team effort if you will to serve us and fill in everything on the table and our endless coffee. I loved that they had specials and homemade breads. I had the cinnamon toast as a side and it was good, but nothing to brag about. She got the homemade rye, and we both loved it. I cant wait to go back during the week when they serve lunch to see if they can make sandwiches with it. The portions are large and well priced. The food doesnt take a 'long' time, but they are definitely cooking everything from right when you order it. Everything was seasoned well and even the hollandaise sauce was delicious tasting. The hash was homemade- not the kind that looks like canned dog food. And as I am a cafe snob, the coffee smelled good from the moment we walked in to drinking it. I was sad there was nothing lactose free to use with the coffee, but they were great about hot and fresh refills. I loved the homey atmosphere and being called sweetheart too. So going back again, not only for breakfast but for lunches as well. Oh. They are closed on Mondays! Perfect start for a Sunday out read more

Came here with friends around 10:15 on a Sunday morning and we were about 4th in line- not too bad! Enough spots opened up at the counter and no one in front of us wanted them so we hopped right up! My favorite breakfast/brunch items include something with hollandaise or corned beef hash- Josie's had the best of both worlds- Irish benedict - the canadian bacon is replaced with corned beef hash! I was pumped. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and the food came out quickly. My Irish benedict was as good as I could have hoped for. The home fries, I can't forget about them, they are filled with onions and garlic. They were the best home fries I've ever had. NOM. I really wanted to polish off my plate but I couldn't quite get there. We had a beer festival to attend so I had to leave some room! read more

Josie's is terrific and perfect hometown breakfast/lunch place for a town like Berlin. Everyone else agrees with me as there is always a line to get seated. My only time there was a Friday morning and it was packed! Luckily, a seat at the counter was calling my name. I ordered the hash stuffed omelet with home fries and homemade bread. Despite being busy, my waitress was attentive, sincere, and my coffee mug was constantly being refilled. My suggestion is to not be cheap and upgrade your toast to homemade. Your taste buds and tummy will thank you. However, I have to say, I prefer Berlin Fare. read more

Breakfast fan, this place is really, really good. The house omelet and the corned beef hash omelet are huge and amazing. That's just what I've tried so far... Also, even though I'm on a low carb diet, this place is the one exception I have to make. Their homemade bread is thick, tasty and a must have. I'm partial to the honey wheat and my wife loves the rye. Service is the icing on the cake, very attentive and, despite being popular, they're always there to greet, take your order, recommend dishes and refresh your coffee. Found this place thanks to Yelp and definitely need to spread the word! read more

Thought I wrote this one a long time ago .. we have been going to Josie's since they opened (it used to be called something else a few years back..) Don't judge a book by the cover..while the ambiance and decor is a little lackluster, they make up for it with their solidly good food. Some of the best eggs Benedict I have had in recent memory. The best part? They make delicious homemade bread! Their honey wheat and rye are particular standouts. I also am a big fan of their hash and eggs dish. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, the kitchen could definitely use some speeding up, but the food is worth the wait, I promise! read more

Holy Sh*t Josie, why can't every meal out be as good as yours? Food is awesome. REAL thick bacon, none of that disintegrates in your mouth like Catholic Church communion wafer bs. Home fries, so good. Let me give you two examples of how great their service is. 1. Walk in crusty eyed and a little hungover. I get up before ordering to go wash my hands. Woman shouts to me before I hit the door, "you want a coffee here on the table when you get back?" Thank you Jesus for answering my prayers. 2. Place closes in early afternoon. My husband and I are the last ones there. Waitstaff asks us if we want free ice coffees to go, because they have lots of fresh coffee they don't want to waste it. Ohhh Josie. I think I'll go there now. read more

I was visiting my daughter at school and decided to try this spot for breakfast. I had a veggie omelette with a side of bacon and a slice of gluten free cinnamon swirl French toast. My youngest daughter had the regular cinnamon swirl French toast and my oldest daughter had Irish Benedict. Everyone was happy. The Irish Benedict with a side of homefries with onions was so insanely good I will dream about it until I go back! It was fantastic. Good service, very friendly. Definitely worth a visit! I appreciated that they had gluten free options as well. read more

I just want to say that I love this place. I come here often with my three young kids on Saturday mornings while my wife is working. Every time I've gone, they've brought my kids food first and then mine after I'm done getting their stuff in order. The waitresses are always friendly. It does get very busy on the weekends but that's only due to their popularity. I wish them many years of continued success. read more

Another home-town jem. It's a type of small breakfast spot that has first-come-first-serve counter seats and tables packed into their floor-space. We sat at the bar since it was immediately available. Coffee was good. Our place at the end of the bar meant we were offered coffee often. They have homemade breads as an option for their meals. The flavors I remember, were honey, cinnamon swirl and rye. I ordered the cheeseburger omelet with home fries with onions and home-made rye. I really liked my omelet, the bacon within it was thick and a good balance between crisp and medium well cooked. The hamburger cumbles tasted like a good burger. My life-partner got eggs; scrambled, hash and cinnamon swirl toast and home fries without onions. Their portions are huge. The plate came packed with a huge omelet and 4 halves of rye bread, buttered. I ate my fill and had 2 more serving to eat the following day. I wish the home fries would have a little more crispness, but that is the cooks prerogative. Another review mentions the home fries being crisp so it may just depend on the cook for that shift. The ladies working at, near and by the counter were friendly and clearly had friendly relationships with their regulars. read more

Can't miss with Josie's. Their Benedict's are great. Get the Home fries cooked it onions takes longer but well worth it. The renovations were well received. Especially the floor. I love little "Mom & Pop" style breakfast / brunch places like this. Tucked away along side of Route 9 (x21; Mill ST.), if you sneeze you would drive right by it. The warm salutation and atmosphere, as well as the food is outstanding. The service is very friendly and fast. Coffee is a little steep if you only have only one cup ($1.95; "bottomless"), but it was decent and flavorful, not too strong... I got eggs, homefries (actually breakfast potatoes) with a light paprika style seasing and with sautéed onions. There was an up charge of $0.75 for the kielbasa, but I somewhat expected that because of the type of meat it is. I also noticed they have a small, laminated "Specials" menu with two sizes of "Biscuts & Gravy for a reasonable price as well. That in and of itself gives me a reason to come back! read more

Super friendly service and yummy home cooked food. What more could you want? The cinnamon French toast was very good. I also got the home fries with onions and they would have been awesome if I had forgone the onions. They were basically just oily cooked chopped onions smothering the top. My boyfriend got the corned beef hash which he liked because it had the nice crispy crust. We enjoyed our breakfast and the service. I am glad we stopped by while we were in town. read more
