My dad goes to CJ's every Saturday for Breakfast bright and early. He's always awake super early do this place is his go to for early morning breakfast. Sam & Al have been running this place for forever. The service is quick and friendly and the food is fresh and made fast. Sam has a "Hiya honey" or "Good morning sunshine" To all the regulars that walk in the door each week. It's reminiscent of all those dinners back in the day. Hot coffee is made consistently the entire time you're there. Pancakes and bacon were fantastic . So good we had to get some to go as well. Best place for breakfast in central CT ...waitresses are pleasant and kind and food comes fast

Went to CJs earlier this week. The last page of the menu had specials, which, according to the menu, included coffee. When I went to the cash register to pay, the waitress charged me an additional $2.50 for coffee. When I told her the menu says coffee is included, she said thier prices went up and they didn't get new menus yet. I could have accepted that excuse, except when I ordered, I pointed to that specific special and said "I'll have this omelet special." She knew exactly what I was looking at and chose not to tell me the coffee was no longer included. I still left a good tip, but I left feeling I was taken advantage of. They could have crossed out the words "includes coffee", or honor the advertised price. The food was good. Compliments to the chef, but since there are so many good breakfast places in the area that honor thier advertised price, there's no reason for me to go back. read more

There were warning signs that I chose to ignore so I only have myself to blame for the disaster some might call breakfast. The first clue should have been the location, an area populated by car dealerships, a defunct tire center, a closed Assyrian Community Center and an adjoining, similarly named, dry cleaners. Secondly, prior customer photos would not likely wet anyone's appetite. So yes, I coulda and shoulda have known better. No one acknowledged our arrival, but we observed a couple in front of us going directly to a table so we followed though choosing to settle in at a vacant booth. In short order a server arrived bearing menus and taking our drink orders. My wife chose apple cinnamon pancakes, a stack of 2 thought 3 seems to be the norm, while I went with a 3 egg spinach and feta omelet that included home fries and a choice of toast. Hers was almost good while mine was the worst omelet, hands down, that has ever been served to anyone, anytime, anywhere. Cooked past well done using frozen spinach and far too little feta it proved to be tasteless, dried out, and totally blah! The accompanying home fries were not great, but at least proved to eatable while the wheat toast was okay. Meanwhile back at my wife's side of the table, her coffee was nothing short of watered down. If you choose to ignore this review and opt to join the regulars at CJ's, be forewarned that breakfast is served everyday while lunch is limited to weekdays. Also, don't wait for the check to arrive, proceed to the register to pay though you will not be receiving a detailed bill. Lastly, actually almost lastly, there is a nominal charge of 1% added as a customer service fee that I surmise is due to paying with plastic. Finally, don't come expecting to see us because we will be dining elsewhere. read more

This place is snuggled in a small plaza with plenty of parking. They say to seat yourself when entering and its rather spacious inside. They have a huge menu along the bar type seating . Paper menus are available. The place is very clean . Today we tried the sausage gravy over biscuits. It was pretty good . My friend had eggs sunny side with bacon. The eggs definitely could have cooked longer . The bacon really good . One Mickey Mouse pancake for my son was just enough for his belly and pretty good. We definitely will be back to enjoy some more menu items and specials. read more

Overall good experience- didn't experience any of the bad service some of the other reviews mentioned. In fact everyone was very pleasant and nice. We came on a Sunday around 930 and there was plenty of seating available. We got a bacon egg and cheese, Belgian waffle, Popeye omelet and sides of hash browns and bacon. Coffee came with the omelet. Everyone enjoyed their food, coffee refills were constant, and it was cheap! 30 bucks out the door (not including tip). Seating is a little lacking, besides the booths, all the tables are pushed together as if you were going to a large family reunion, thus having other people in your conversations with little to no privacy. I thought this place was a good, solid find for our day out in New Britain. A family style breakfast place in more ways than one. The space is one big room with plenty of tables. All of the tables in the center are long and able to seat 16 people. There are booths all around the outside. When you walk in they tell you to seat yourself. All of the booths were taken so I sat at the other end of one of the long tables from a father and son enjoying some pancakes and waffles. Everyone there was kind, patrons and staff alike. A nice Sunday vibe. We got one slice of the Texas style French toast, a Greek omelette, and the sausage biscuits and gravy with eggs. I was between the sausage biscuits and gravy and the corned beef hash. I asked the server if the corned beef hash was homemade. She was honest and said it was not, but said it was still delicious. I still went with the sausage biscuits and gravy, which she said IS homemade. I was also leaning towards the Chunky Monkey pancakes. I will have to wait for next time. Everything was delicious and we left happy and full. They made sure the start to our day was a good one! read more

I had not expected to spend that much time, as my car was being repaired nearby. I walked down the street to have a quick coffee. Was warned by several guys and a couple older women that CJ's has a couple "entitled brats" working there....I took this advice in stride. But I have to say that waiting nearly 45 minutes for a refill on coffee in such a small place is rediculous. I received my first cup which was served in a "mini mug". I was ghosted when trying to make eye contact with my waitress for the purpose of a refill. There was another waitress on the other side of the room but she was showing bias to her section of this tiny place. My waitress must have seen me get up to talk to a patron about the bad service at the next table and suddenly my waitress shows up with the check and NO attempt to refill and never asked me if I wanted anything else. Not a word out of her. Just left the check on the table and disappeared. When I stood up again the other waitress came with the coffee pot. Mind you this is now 1 hour later! I told her with diplomacy that I did not appreciate the poor service, and that I needed to leave so I should not have to pay for the tiny 1 cup of coffee as I never was offered a refill within a 50 min time span. This very young waitress scolded me saying she did NOT approve of my negative comment regarding service and that I have no right to complain and that I "lacked compassion" in my tone, and based on that I will not get a refund on coffee. I then told her she needed to supply a large cup to go since the other side of the room had "MULTIPLE" refills and I was ghosted my entire visit of 45- 55 minutes in that establishment. The couple sitting adjacent to my table even mentioned to me her haugty nasty demeaner toward the legitimate complaint regarding bad service. I will never return, should have listened to the several guys who commented ahead of time on the "entitled, haughty over sensitive spoiled brat Millenial mentality " of the staff working there........ read more

The first thing I noticed about C.J.'s was that the place was packed. This was a good sign. I took a seat at the counter, and waited about five minutes before being acknowledged. Once the staff did notice me, I found each of them to be so pleasant that it was easy to over look the wait. I genuinely felt welcomed, at that point. I ordered a cup of coffee and the "C.J.'s omelet". I wasn't offered a menu; so, I have to assume that the food listed in chalk above the counter was, in fact, the menu. The omelet noted featured bacon, sausage, ham and cheese, which was hard for me to resist. I was not disappointed. The omelet was packed with meat and cheese, although the egg was slightly over done. A side of home fries came with the omelet. The home fries are worth noting, not so much for the flavor, but for the freshness. If you like potatoes, you'll love these. The price was fair for the portion. After finishing my meal, again I waited. This time for my check. I finally flagged down a waitress, who directed me to the register. The cashier simply asked what I had and rang up the order. I didn't feel slighted or ignored; every staff member I spoke to was very friendly and accommodating. As I noted above, the place was packed and the staff was constantly on the go. Knowing that everyone was doing their best made my dining experience that much more pleasurable. read more

CJs is quite simply the best breakfast I've had in a long time. The service is quick and attentive. The food is perfectly cooked. The staff is pleasant and the cashier is quick witted and is friendly. I eat in a lot of great restaurants and this is tops for me for breakfast. They even have a homemade foot bar at the counter so your feel don't dangle (my wife loved it). I had chunky monkey pancakes that were filled with chocolate and bananas (no skimping). We had really good food here, but the service was terrible. We felt like we were bothering them when we came in. Then we got our coffee followed by an order. After the food came out, they forgot about us completely. I had to go to the counter at one point to get more coffee. Then they even acknowledged that they had forgotten about us. Then we sat for a while and still didn't get any more service. Dirty plates just sat in front of us until we finally got up and paid and left. Don't leave dead food sitting in front of me. Coffee is watered down, eggs are always over cooked leaving them dry and bland. Pancakes are taken off 1 minute before they're burned completely. Home fries are edible but not the best.
