Popped into the Rocky Hill Mitchell's for the first time in a while for a Monday afternoon lunch. It was still pretty busy for a Monday, but was able to be seated right away! This used to be my spot in high school, as it's right down the road from RHHS. Ordered my favorite turkey club and it was better than ever. Loved the fries too! Staff is always always friendly and they never let your cup of coffee run low. Service and food were speedy as well. I def forgot how small it was inside, so I image there's quite a long wait on weekends. Definitely can't go wrong with a Mitchell's breakfast or lunch!

This is a classic breakfast & lunch (aka diner) spot that was rated as one of the best breakfast places by CT Magazine Their menu is large and has all of the classic diner foods + a few creative ones I got a lobster eggs benedict and a coffee. -The eggs benedict was tasty, but the eggs were a little undercooked (a little too runny, even for an eggs benedict) but the lobster and the side of potatoes were very tasty -The coffee was not the best The place was also very crowded with old people, and it seemed like it had a big following 8

Chocolate chip pancake & Eggs Florentine

My boyfriend and I come here all the time and love it. It's close to his work & with the fast and friendly service, it's frequently in our lunch rotation. Mitchell's is a very typical diner inside from a rotating specials board and that you seat yourself. It can get very busy, especially on the weekends, but the turnaround is relatively quick. The food is so good, with a wide array of specials, combos, and variety. This time I got the chocolate chip pancake, which was delicious and he got the eggs Florentine. The Hollandaise sauce is amazing! All the other food I've had here is great as well, and I try to try something new every time. Also, very affordable for the good quality food you're getting.

    Glutinous cold Oily potatoes.

Only go here if you want to find out how to botch miserably a simple breakfast. We were recommended to this place, but it was just awful. Eggs were insipid and cold. Sausage was like the frozen links from the freezer (best part of the meal). Corned beef hash was inedible. Like dog food. Could not eat more than a bite. Bread was like styrofoam. Potatoes seemed like canned sliced potatoes drenched in oil, cold and glutinous. Food was awful. Service lousy. And they started sweeping with the janitor closet open kicking up the dust so we could breathe that i along with the aroma of cleaner. Ignored us when we asked them to stop. Avoid this joint like the plague. PS. One star is Minimum Rating allowed.

This is my new favorite breakfast place. The prices are so affordable & the amount of food is beyond satisfying. Best of all, their grits are delish! I arrived an hour or so before closing & the customer service felt homie & inviting. I didn't get the rushed or annoyed impression since I came so close to closing. In fact, a man & his kids arrived 10mins, if not less, before closing & they let them dine. This has such a family atmosphere, it's nostalgic. The food came out surprisingly fast, hot & the waitress had a smile the whole time & genuinely laughed with, us as well. Additionally, I was able to see the food being cooked & everyone fulfilling the orders wore masks & gloves.

Maybe one of the best diners in New England. Have large menu. Wait staff is #1. The daily specials are incredible. My gf and ordered the daily special. She had banana bread French toast. Who ever thought that up was a Genius. I had the salmon Benedict salmonella and asparagus on an English muffin with poached egg and Hollandaise

Having time to kill, and finding myself dismayed at the number of breakfast spots closed on Monday,…read moreI found myself at a place I've long considered trying: the Makris Diner. I arrived just after 7:00 AM, finding only a few other customers. Taking my seat at the counter, and noticing the "best of 2025" certificate, coffee was immediately served; and, my order was promptly taken. My choice was the big breakfast two, which would prove to be well named. Well within ten minutes, I was served three eggs, properly prepared, over easy, four very mild, frankly nearly tasteless, breakfast sausage links, a good portion of browned, but as far as I could tell, unseasoned, hashbrowns that were on the dry side (yes, ketchup was required) and finally, two slices of thick French toast, generously splattered with powdered sugar (quite tasty, I must say). In short, this meal read like a stock chart on a volatile day; peaks and valleys. The cup of coffee was acceptable, doing nothing to add or detract from the meal. At just over, twenty two bucks, before tip, the portion couldn't be faulted; but, the quality could have been better. The Makris has been there as long as I can remember; but in all my life, this is only my second visit. The first was a late night stop for a cup of coffee way back when teenagers actually ventured outside to engage in social activities; and, today, it looked much as it did back then. It was clean, comforatable and very much appealing to my sense of nostalgia. So too, I believe, that could be said of the other patrons, all of whom I expected to refer to my 58 year old self as "kid" if the need to speak to me had arisen.

As I mention it was my first time there, we ordered the coconut French toast and shared the surf & turf egg Benedict. Everything was worth the wait and tasted amazing. I'm already planning my next visit to try something else on the menu. Food came out presentable and hot. Glad I came here because it's prob one of the best breakfast spots in the area.

And although busy with a line that literally went out the door, the line moved quickly enough that I didn't regret waiting. The food was outstanding, chocolate chip pancakes with some berries, a side of bacon. (two sides if I'm being honest), and a green tea. I sat outside, as it was a perfect early June morning. My only complaint had nothing to do with the restaurant. Someone in the parking lot was smoking pot early in the am and the smell was very strong. I'm no prude but for f's sake use your brain people - there were lots of children around. Not smart! The waitress was personable, the price was reasonable. Overall, an excellent experience. Try Ken's Corner soon, and you'll be adding it to your regular rotation.

I popped in because the parking lot was mostly empty. It wasn't particularly busy in the cafe either. There were two small groups ahead of me in line. I order my food and black iced coffee to go. I received my food. It even had to be heated. And I had to wait 10 minutes for them to give me my black iced coffee. Even though there are only two or three people waiting in the drink area. And that was after I said something. So who knows how long it would have taken. This isn't because of lack of effort. The baristas were doing things. They're making lots of drinks. But it's not clear for whom. They finish the drinks and they don't call people's names. Maybe they're for to go orders? I understand that restaurants need to make choices about how they run things. All I can say is, that it's not a good experience to get all of your food and you have to wait for a black iced coffee (a drink that takes very minimal effort) for 10 minutes. Even though you're one of only a few people in the drink area. I'm not going to change my review score. But these experiences definitely affect how often I visit.

We tried the pepperoni pizza this time, and although pepperoni is salty, it was a little bit overboard. We also tried another salad and again it was completely drenched in dressing. Half of our order was completed when we sat down. I was able to finish my pizza before the salad came out. I wish everything was a little bit more organized, and came out together.

My kids enjoyed an orange juice and an apple juice. I ordered the mango dragonfruit lemonade, and it was refreshing, flavorful, and the perfect drink for a warm day. For my meal, I had the avocado toast topped with an egg and crispy bacon. It was fresh, filling, and absolutely delicious. The boys loved their meals too. The meeting was exactly two minutes away from Bob's, so when I rolled into Bob's at a quarter to nine, saw a near empty dining room, I figured I'd have plenty of time to have a coffee, enjoy a bagel, and go through my meeting notes. Oops, that wasn't what happened. Truth be told, I made my meeting with seven minutes to spare. After I ordered, I waited for quite a while and looked up from my notes to see what was going on. I saw two servers and the manager engaged in a serious conversation about something. My server caught my eye and ran over to the kitchen, and I clearly heard her say something like "where's that egg on a bagel?". It was evident that the order hadn't even made its way to the kitchen yet. Eventually my breakfast sandwich did arrive, and the server offered some sort of an apology for the delay and communication breakdown. Now, as I said, Bob's was pretty empty today, so that made the service breakdown hard to understand. I certainly hope they do a better job on their busy weekends. Anyway, my server was pleasant, and I did appreciate her apology. The sandwich and coffee were fine, and the bill came to just $7. Will I be back next month? I doubt it.
