Personally, I love this place because I grew up going to a little diner in my small hometown in the Midwest and this place has every bit of that nostalgia. Nothing has been updated since 1982, but why does it need to be? They literally have options on the board for things like liver and onions that no one has probably ordered in two decades. The food is cheaper than almost anywhere around, and the staff absolutely crushes it when it comes to pumping things out quick. I can walk in and be out with a bacon egg and cheese on a toasted roll in under 4 minutes when every table is full. Super impressive. Is it the best BEC in the area? No. But it's $5 not $17. I ordered two coffees and oatmeal and when I realized that one of them were with whole milk I went back to to try to change it and the guys pretend like if I wasn't there three min ago. Then he said that I didn't order it from him. And I told it wasn't even five min ago because it literally wasn't. I can relate with some of the reviewers here, I myself have been going to johns coffee dounut shop since I was kid growing up in Brooklyn in the early 90's and nothing has really change since, this spot is definitely a gem, its a staple in the neighborhood of prat / fort greene area. This is my go to spot for breakfast when I'm around, I have tons of memories here on occasions having breakfast with the family on a busy Saturday morning with a flow of breakfast goers coming in and out, the cooks on the line cracking eggs and hearing the bacon sizzle on the griddle, the toast popping, and coffee brewing nothing can take those countless memories away. The cooks and the workers there are very friendly and awesome people, they take care of you there it's like family, you go there or order from there so long they know you already and they know what you want to eat. This place is always busy on weekdays and on weekends so I recommend ordering to go or get it delivered unless you can go early get a table or seat at the counter. This is the perfect place for breakfast it's one of my favorite diners around. The food is not fancy but it's really good for the price its very cheap and affordable, I always like getting 2 eggs bacon and French fries or home fries and they make some killer home fries on the griddle the eggs are always cooked to perfection and the bacon is always crispy. This is a house of magic staffed by wizards. I swear I've had service so fast that they knew what I wanted to order before I did. Just try going in there and ordering an egg and cheese on a roll. The next question they will fire at you is "1 or 2". Say "two" because you need your protein and your worth it gosh darn it, and then watch as your sandwich magically appears in less than 60 seconds. It's unreal. It's too hot to eat right away. The roll is buttered generously and it will ruin you for deli breakfast sandwiches from anywhere else. Add a cup of coffee and a generous tip and make sure to bring cash as they don't take cards. This is the absolute best option for an early breakfast in the area. I think they open at 5 am most days. This is a small local diner that's usually full of colorful locals. It's the kind of place that, if you're nice, they will welcome you by name time after time. I can vouch for the quality of the breakfast dishes. They make a great cheese omelette which I usually get with hot, crispy onion rings and toast. Pancakes are usually light and fluffy, as they should be. The burgers are top notch, in that diner way. No artisanal burgers mind you, but delicious for what they are. I usually get a double. And not a bean sprout or brioche bun in sight. I go at least once and frequently twice a week, to meet friends for lunch and good conversation. My only criticism is that they close at 4pm lol. The best diner in Brooklyn. THIS is what cheap food, fast service, and a diverse menu should be like at all diners. I've been to this place over fifty times: alone, accompanied, stoned, and hung over. Every time, I'm always greeted to friendly service, a nice cup of coffee, and if I'm lucky, I'll ask for their donuts (which usually run out fast). They've got the best breakfast you could ask for: I say try the turkey bacon with your eggs. And their Cheeseburger Deluxe kills the competition. It even comes with a couple of onion rings and a little cup of coleslaw. And let's not forget the lemonade. It's the sweetest, freshest lemonade on planet earth. The sweetest! I haven't had their delivery or gone to their bathroom, but I expect both are excellent choices. And the decor: it couldn't get more simpler. The chefs are practically in your face, and you can hear (if you pay attention) your order being yelled into the cook's ears. The only thing that's bad about this place: it isn't big enough during brunchtime. Still, that's not enough to deter me from giving it five stars. It is the best place to fill your hungover body using the crumpled bills and change in your drunk-pants from the night before (I spent how much? I bought who a drink?).
