Nick Maffeo was my contact and guided me through all phases of the move. the truck showed up exactly on time, and Edwin, Noshie (apologies if I misspelled!) worked tirelessly to provide "white glove" service. they carefully packed all belongings, and transported to Plymouth. They arrived arrived, and they unpacked, assembled, and placed all our belongings exactly where we asked. These three took the time to explain each step, and listened when we pointed the directions. B and M We hired John Palmer to move our household, of 30 years, from two different storage units to our new home. We talked to Mike and explained the unexpected situation, especially about our 30' by 10' storage unit, which took us at least six months to pack. It was packed from floor to ceiling, which created a risk to pull things out. There were many different items with small boxes with fragile content and a variety of inside furniture. Scott, Tyler, Gabe, Ricky, and Ty arrived on time, worked efficiently, never lost a minute, extremely polite, fantastic listeners, with proud professional ethics and so knowledgeable and very funny, it was fantastic. As a result, the job was done in less time than quoted. We highly recommended them. One deserves the best and they were beyond an expectation of what the best is. read more

Moving? Move on and find another company. Wow - this company needs to better understand both customer service and communication. Here's the scoop. Upon a positive former customer referral I called to ask the company for a quote. They asked me when I planned to move, and said "Sure, we'll send a guy by your place to get you a good estimate". The day before I got a call from the main office confirming my appointment for noontime the next day. Noontime came and went, so I called the office to check on the guy that was supposed to come and give me the estimate. "I'm sorry - we're all booked for the day you were planning on moving". What?! Didn't you call to confirm the appointment the day before? Shouldn't you have called to let your prospect know that a) your agent was not going to be coming and b) that you are so very sorry that you are booked that day, could we possibly move it? Apparently you only feel that telling your customer no is the way to go. Looking at other reviews perhaps it is the exorbitant prices that allows the company to stay in business. Good luck John Palmer - you'll never have my business or that of any of my family/friends. This will be the first story I tell them of who NOT to go with. read more

STAY AWAY! I've used Gentle Giant for several local moves and unfortunately (and against my better judgement) used John Palmer for a recent cross-country move. The crew was extremely unprofessional (foreman -- "I'm never working another f#@!ing Saturday again), the packing job was poor (so much so that the owner had to repack items at the warehouse before they were put on another truck for cross country shipment), common hallways were damaged during the move (and the foreman did not have the courtesy or professionalism to take responsibility). There was also a creepy guy that kept following my wife around and made her really uncomfortable. When I complained I was told that the foreman was new and they would talk to him. Joke. In spite of several requests, the crew failed to create a "sterile room" where I could leave items I did not want packed. They ended up grabbing several documents I needed for closing and packed them. When I called to try to recover the documents I was told that it would be a "chore". Ha. (in fairness the documents were recovered, but after far more pressure than should have been necessary). The foreman lost my paperwork twice (once onsite) and then again on the way to the warehouse. I received frantic calls and emails threatening that I would incur large charges if I did not fill out my paperwork for a THIRD time. Instead of owning the mistake I was told that this was my fault "Please open the DOCUSIGN emails and complete so you can EASILY return the forms to me in time. It will take you 2 minutes and can be done on your cell. My office closes at 5:30 PM ET and I still will have to upload it into Atlas for you. The longer you wait the more time you are giving the driver to make plans for offloading at a warehouse!!" - from Mike Bavuso, CEO. If I could give ZERO star, I would. In early July I reserved a 12 foot truck for August 31st. This is THE MOVING day in Boston, so I reserved early. They called to confirm the week before, and all seemed good. I was driving from CT to MA and got a call 30 minutes before I was due to pick up saying that my truck had not been dropped off yet. They would call the customer to find out when they would be dropping it off, and would call me back. I called them back 45 minutes later and they said they reached the customer, who would let them know when they had an idea of when they would drop off. I called 30 minutes later and John Palmer office suggested I call Penske directly. When I called Penske they told me to shift my move to the next day. My daughter needed to be OUT of her old apartment that night at 7pm. I could not simply MOVE the date. The Penske office was not willing to call the customer again and said they tried their best to get me a truck. I am not sure what the point of a reservation is, if they cannot guarantee they actually HAVE A TRUCK FOR YOU. Zero stars, F minus. read more

I had a good experience with Palmer moving. I had them move me out one day, keep my things overnight, and deliver them to my new house the next day. On the first day (moving out), I got a call that they would be 1.5 hours late. The man was really apologetic. In my case, this change didn't matter, but I can see that under other circumstances this might be a problem. But when they did arrive they were efficient, professional, and polite. The move-in (the next day) went smoothly. I did not notice any damage whatsoever to my furniture or house. And, the bill came in at $250 UNDER their initial quote, which was competitive to begin with compared to the others I got. The only other thing I will note is that when I first got my quote, I was told that overtime started at 5 pm and that means time-and-a-half for the movers. Later, after I had signed the contract, the office told me OT started at 4. I demanded to talk to my initial rep, and OT went back to starting at 5 pm. So be sure to get the OT policy in writing. Overall I would recommend Palmer, and in fact that's how I found them: 2 colleagues recommended them to me. read more

I paid over $7000 to John Palmer Moving and Storage who moved some of my furniture to a storage facility this winter. When I went to the storage facility to move my belongings, two bureaus were damaged. I asked John Palmer to compensate for the repair costs. They claimed my insurance coverage was only good for 14 days. I explained that since the furniture was in storage, there is no way I could know this within 14 days. I was told that since they did not move the furniture from storage, I would not be given any consideration for the damage. In retrospect, I should have taken photos of the furniture before moving it to prove I was not lying. I was not only disappointed that I was not believed, but even more disappointed that the attitude conveyed was one of a could care less tone. There are some hard working helpful movers and this poor customer care is no reflection on them. read more

My wedding ring was stolen from these idiots, and nothing was done about it. The packing job was awful, with many of our items being damaged. They sent different clowns out everyday, and none of them seemed to know what was going on. Moving day was an absolute joke! The girl who works the phones had to call her husband in (who didn't work there) to help load the truck. He was the friendliest guy there. The whole thing was an AWFUL experience!!! read more

Everything went great. The guys were friendly, careful, quick, and efficient. I had a 1 bedroom, 3rd floor apartment. I had pre-packed all my books and electronics. Still, iIt took less than 3 hours for them to load of their truck hauling all my small book boxes down 3 flights of stairs. Plus, they packed the kitchen and did all the furniture wrapping. They get the job done, I guess, but they do it poorly. Very poorly. They smoke and left butt all over property, bled on our carpet and didn't tell us, dented my $200 rolling tool cabinet and didn't tell me, Dropped and broke part of my $1,400 milling machine that "[they] just moved a bunch of these earlier this week" and put the pieces into a cement mixing pan in my garage buried behind a bunch of my stuff, didn't tell me, and denied when I emailed them about it. I'm sure there is more, too. I just keep finding things damaged. Accidents happen, I get that, and it's Going to be about $30 to replace the broken parts (that NEED to be replaced, other parts I won't bother), but I wouldn't mind that if they apologized and owned up to what they did. But no. They don't communicate at all. Whatsoever. Unless you initiate it, or they need to know if you want something moved. If you don't supervize them the whole time, they get sloppy and lazy as they fatigue throughout the day. They just throw everything in my garage, even if it's clearly labeled "basement" or "master bedroom". I would go on, but I've written enough. I would give 0 stars if I could. Spend a bit more and get a better moving company, because these guys don't care about your stuff. Sorry to be so harsh, but they really need to get their act together. read more
