Attitude from phone representatives do not win customers. They said they would be here between 6-10pm on a Friday night. They called at 6:30 to say no technician was available. No "sorry" after asking what happen several times, but "chevene"( the rep who called) admitted no technician was ever available. Needless to say, we were angry they made us wait for hours for our timeframe and they had no intention of calling us hours prior to let us know that we didn't really have an appointment. When I called back to see if I could get an earlier appointment than 6pm the following day, they denied that it was a scheduling problem, even though "chevene" talked to my husband a few minutes ago. She said it wasn't their fault and didn't apologize. Yes, I spoke to her as well. And got attitude too. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt but own your issues. Don't try to hide that this was a mess up on your end. If they had apologized instead of giving us attitude, instead of making us wait over their "24 hour policy", this bad review wouldn't be written. Good customer service goes a long way but now their BAD service will be even more well known due to this review. NEXT DAY: John Moore saw this review and called us and apologized. I REALLY appreciated that. John Moore owned their issue. That is good service recovery with a very long term customer. They offered us a $75 discount on the next service. I had John Moore come out to my home on 09/14/20 because one of my AC units was not blowing cool air, my first thought was it may need some freon. John Moore came and took a look at my AC and said that I needed my entire unit replaced, they gave me a quote for $5600. I knew the unit was not bad, I told the repair guy thanks but no thanks. That same night I called a local mom and pop AC repair company they came out the next day and advised I need to replace my drier, it was leaking freon. Total cost $680. It is ashamed that John Moore has people coming out and giving outrageous estimates on bullsh*t services. By default I had to give 1 star, but in reality they deserve 0. read more

I called and scheduled an appointment stating that the pipe behind the washing machine was overflowing and I needed it cleared. Appointment scheduled very next day. Great communication regarding the appointment, technician assigned including a picture. Technician arrived on time and nothing good has happened since. The technician began the conversation by continuing to push to have someone come out and assess wall damage. Uh... hello.... you haven't even moved the washing machine yet so how do we know there is wall damage. When I continued to basically say, No, not now, maybe later, etc the technician then said, "let's reschedule for tomorrow when I can have someone come out to work on the wall while I work on the plumbing" My response, "No, I need my washing machine working by tonight, we can schedule a wall damage assessment later if we choose" The train started going off the tracks... the plumber is asking ME what the problem is... if I was a plumber and could identify the problem, I would not have needed to call John Moore. I explained AGAIN what the problem was, my washing machine is overflowing from the pipe behind it, I don't know if the main line is clogged or what. The plumber tells me how much it will be to snake the line from point A to Point B and I said that's fine, whatever it takes to fix it. He snaked the line from point A to B, charged my card and left (I'm at work and my adult daughter is there) he never checked to make sure the problem was corrected! We turn the washing machine on and BAM... laundry room flooded AGAIN. I called immediately and speak with someone, telling them the problem has not been fixed. Well... let the games begin because now phone tag begins, put you on hold, speak to supervisor, speak to technician, technician says... yada yada, going to send a technician out this evening. GREAT! Same technician calls and is telling ME what I said, lol I had someone in my office by chance when I spoke with him in the original call so what I said can be verified 100% and No, the conversation did not go quite as he was stating. I guess he not only is a plumber but a Master at CYA. His lack of professionalism led to me calling the office and emphatically telling them under no terms is that man to come to my house again. Now, I am adult enough to say that sometimes it is a matter of a personality conflict but this was my first experience with John Moore and how unfortunate that it was with this person. Flip to the following day when a different tech is sent out. Okay, lesson one for some of you that drive to a customer or client's home... probably should not park that company vehicle directly in front of the driveway so that the customer/client has to park in the street because they cannot get into their own driveway not to mention people can't get out to go to work. New tech says, "This is a different problem so I have to charge you" SERIOUSLY? My washing machine, the same one as the one I called you about to schedule the original service is still overflowing from the same spot! So basically the payment charged to my card was for a nonexistent problem. Sounds like Texas Deceptive Trade Practices to me. How many companies out there charge you for a service that was never needed to begin with? Or doesn't complete the service they were hired to perform? After hearing an unending thump through the night from my kitchen sink, and after a slow drain and some screwy happenings with my disposal this morning, I decided to break down and call JMS. I described the problem to the operator and was given a window of 2-5 PM and was also told that if they had to use the pipe slinky thing that it would cost $69. I received a call around 130PM confirming my appt window of 2-5 PM and was informed that the service tech would call when he was on his way. I received another call around 330 confirming again. I received a 3rd call around 515 indicating they were behind schedule and was asked if I still wanted them to come today or reschedule for another day to which I told them to come today. Around 630 the tech showed up, asked a few investigative type questions, turned the water and disposal on and then advised that he needed to use the slinky which would cost $69. He indicated it was a hand slinky and only 15 ft long and if it didn't work, he would then need to use the machine slinky which would cost $238. We told him to continue because surely 15 ft of slinky would be enough. Well it wasn't, so he brought in the machine. The machine was loud and sounded like it broke everything along its path but after about 15 mins, he was done. Drain fixed, no more choking and spitting up by the disposal, and no more thumps in the pipe. We paid $238, and he was on his way. He didn't ask for a tip, nor did we pay one as one other reviewer mentioned. He was actually very pleasant and professional. But for the actual problem, he squirted some nitrogen in the pipe and then tells us we need their plumber to clear the drain. Without touching a single thing, their"plumber" claims we have to spend $1,000's more for all new pipes. It is criminal what they did to us! read more

I called John Moore for a quote to fix my hot water heater. It had stopped working suddenly the day before. The technician, Mark Welch was friendly and on time. He quoted $1689.96 to fix the heater (replace w/h element, flush, replace control valve & 2/3 t&p replacement) and $3199.97 to replace the 12 year old water heater. His suggestion was to replace it due to its age. This was much higher than I could afford, so I called another company to come out the following day for an additional quote. The Abacus technician was in my attic for 5 minutes before he announced that my pilot light had gone out and he had relighted the pilot. Then he took the time to show me how to relight it myself. I've had hot water ever since. The Abacus technician did agree that the heater should be replaced due to its age. And gave me a quote to replace the heater that was $1,000 LESS. Additionally, he did not charge me for his visit. I will never trust a John Moore company again. read more

Don't believe the text or call you get as to arrival time. Today we were notified at 11:58 AM that the technician was "on the way" (theoretically 30 minute notice) and he showed up at 1:45 PM. My 90 year old father called John Moore about a plumbing stoppage and they said they needed to replace 80 feet of sewer pipe for over $16,000 because it was blocked with tree roots. He paid them half to start and that afternoon their workers removed the dirt around the sewer pipe and would return in the morning to finish the job. The next morning I shut down their job and stopped payment on the check. We agreed to pay for the original visit and the camera put in the pipe. When they sent my father a bill he thought it was junk mail, trashed it and was reported to a credit agency for payment. I contacted the agency and asked for the information and a bill to settle this matter. Rather than a one page bill they sent me a fourteen page description of work and a list of who was to be paid and how much each person involved was to receive. The salesman who originally "bid" the job was to receive over $4000. for his time. There was no tree roots or collapsed sewer pipe, it was a simple clog easily cleared. A few months later my father had a local plumbing company replace the sewer pipe for about $2.300. read more

We called on a Friday night due to a leak that was spraying water into our attic and guest room. There was a small hole in a Pex pipe that runs from our hot water heater, and it was spraying enough water that we had to shut off the water to the entire house. John Moore came out and said that the fix would cost $8,000 since we needed to repipe the entire house. When asked if he could temporarily stop the leak so we could at least have running water, he made a few calls and said the parts were impossible to find and that they don't even make this type of pex pipe. As sincerely as he could, he told that he was sorry he could not do more for us. Desperate for some sort of plug or temporary fix, my husband ended up at Home Depot where they had a full wall of this "nonexistent" pipe & a large bin full of the parts that were impossible to find. Problem completely solved for under $100. They push hard to up-sell and then are unwilling to repair the problem when you do not agree to their insane solution. As far as being a BBB Accredited Business...Well, if the owner of John Moore is Chairman of the Board of the local BBB, you may want to think twice about how much that label means. Just search the internet for "bbb Houston announces chairman of the board" Don't take my word for it - you'll notice a trend in the complaints against this company from customers and ex-employees as well. Beware! Well, the John Moore Tech just left after replacing two parts on our AC-- retail price $50 -which were both covered under warranty. My A/C unit started dripping down the ceiling of my condo. This has leaked into the dry wall. My normal guy calls me and tells me that he is so busy he needs me to find someone else. My rent house AC also starts to act up. John Moore is supposed to show up in a few days over there. Enter John Moore GCG. Tech shows up, (personal home) and immediately tells me that I need an expensive water remediation project NOW. This is before he fixes the leak. He doesn't. But I'm worried, and I'm busy at work and it's the weekend so I get get the sister company to come out and do water remediation. Now this fellow works for Entrusted, which is owned by the same Ganster Capitalism Group. He sells me a $1,700 remediation which seems expensive, but I need these problems solved and I need them solved now. He clearly doesn't know what he is doing since water is still falling from the ceiling but the first tech told me that would happen. Ok, on me for being a sucker, but man.... Another tech shows up, he asks me for money and I refuse. He does some work and I figure the problem is fixed. I did have to play plumbers helper and got splashed with gross stuff, but I can handle that. Day 3, water still falling from the ceiling. The tech arrives and I pay him $200 to finally fix the problem. A couple of more days pass regarding the water remediation guys, and what they are doing changes from day to day. Every tech has a different plan. Not finished yet and probably never will be. I get a call almost a week later from another tech who is heading out to my rent house to service the AC unit. He has no idea what is going on. I tell him "Don't bother, you guys have been fired." He asks me if customer care can call to see what the problem is. Our AC had gone out...again. I have learned a lot over the last few years about how to fix my system, but have not found where to get a capacitor on a Sunday. The capacitor was not showing the typical signs of being blown, but a quick test showed that's what it was. I called john Moore, and they came out that afternoon. I told him I had already checked, and it needed a new capacitor. He then proceeded to check the capacitor. Then he tells me I needs whole new system and tries a sales pitch for a $9,000 unit. Long story short, I said no, the next day I bought a capacitor, and the system was good as new. After calling three times to try to talk to a manager, I received no callback. After my tankless waterheater went out, I called for service. The technician stated he could repair it and drain the line for $1100. I paid upfront and I guess this is where they thought my pockets were probably deeper. The next day the technician says he couldn't just repair it. Either he replaced the major components for $7000 or he could give me a brand new unit for $10,000. I told him that I would have my regular plumber come out and put in a standard waterheater. Here's where I lost it. The tech says that you can't put a standard waterheater in the attic because you need 46 inches. We were both standing up in the attic mind you. I AM 5'5 (60 inches) TALL! I told him to get the hell out my house, tally up the bill for draining the line and give me a refund. Guess how much they charge to drain the line? 500!!! Nope! I dont know how their employees can actually sleep at night. They managed to reschedule an AC repair from our agreed upon time, when I would be home-to the next day, when my wife was home alone. But wait! At least we got the famous JM warranty! Be sure and read it-any other company works on the ac-warranty void; I fool with it-warranty void. Basically, you HAVE to have THEM come out and do any work-for which they charge you 10x the going price-for them to replace the $30 worth of parts-at which time they will surely charge you at least $250 "for diagnostics" They are scammers who take advantage of women and others. My wife calls them because "they show up". Of course they do-we are paying for their new trucks in overcharges. I am sure they are running to our neighborhood, fighting to see who can get there first-not everyday you can overcharge somebody by 10x, and make $700 an hour! I can imagine all the cackling going on about that in their sales meetings-just picture it. I plan on running SEO campaigns, PR news releases, BBB complaints, and filing with the Attgy General. These parasites have taken advantage of people long enough. I dont care as much about the $900 as taking advantage of women. It has become my personal mission in life to go after these hucksters. A few days later, I got papers in the mail that looked like I had taken a loan for the amt. of the Moore unit. I thought they were the sort of thing they send trying to get you to take a loan and didn't read them well. Then that company started calling me, and trying to get payment on the note. I told them I'd never signed anything with Moore and that they'd done no work for us. John Moore quoted me about $10k for a repair, and thankfully I had the smarts to get a 2nd quote. It was under $1000, and the 3rd quote was also within $100 of that second quote. I instantly realized John Moore was a bad company considering they price gouged me unbelievably TEN TIMES what it should have been. But there's more... I shared this on Nextdoor, and literally over a dozen responses from people who had the exact same thing happen. Dozens of people in just my local subdivision, and they all got quoted upwards of 10 times the average quoted price as well. My god. I don't know how these guys are in business. CALL JOHN AND PAY WAY MOORE! This company deserves zero stars, that should be a YELP option. I realized my AC system was not cooling last Sept.11. I called John Moore believing the unit was still under warranty. John Moore had installed a new HVAC system April 15, 2013. I paid $5479.05 for the Goodman AC. Their technician arrived the next day, Sept. 12, 2018, and diagnosed a leak in the cooling coils as the probable problem. I was informed that my AC unit only had a 5yr. warranty, it had been 5yrs. and 5 months since John Moore installed the AC. I was quoted $10,500 for a new AC. I agreed to pay to have the system recharged to verify the diagnosis, the cost $1446.00. The material cost for the Compressor Saver Kit and R-22 should be less than $200.00. That means I was charged more than $1200.00 labor. Two days later, Sept. 14,the AC was not cooling. I called John Moore and the technician arrived the next day and stated that I would need to pay for another coolant recharge unless I purchased a new AC form John Moore, ($10,500). I immediately declined. On Sept. 17 I had another AC company arrive and recharged the cooling system, after a hot weekend. They did verify the problem as a leak in the cooling coils. I should say first that our plumbing technician, Ramez, was fantastic; very polite, helpful, and quick to fix the clogged sewer line. Unfortunately the horrible customer service John Moore Plumbing really ruined the whole thing. After calling 3 times in the 4+ hours AFTER the missed appointment was scheduled with no call or plumber in sight to deal with the sewer line that had my entire plumbing system inoperable [an emergency situation IMHO] I was finally told that the first person I spoke with 10 hours prior had entered my phone number incorrectly, but someone would come the next day since all the plumbers were gone for the day. Really?!?! None of the CSR's I spoke with earlier had noticed this, nor bothered to check on the situation. I was assured a supervisor would call to discuss my complaint....never happened. Even after all that, when I called the following morning to confirm that they were actually going to show up, rather than play "lets waste vacation time" again, the number was STILL in their system incorrectly!! I was assured again that a supervisor would call about the issues I had....still no returned call. They finally got Ramez out there after 10am the next day...23 hours after they were scheduled. They are a "Rewrap" Company. Their AC Products are a rewrap from a major manufacturer. They sell the point that they are covered by the manufacture warranty but what they do not tell you is that they will not cover labor cost. It isn't labor cost exactly either. For example, our Blower went out on the house. We paid a little over $12,000 for a full system. Within three years the blower went out so we called and they sent a tech and they want to charge us $700 to replace the blower EVEN THOUGH it is under warranty. Now $700 is nuts for labor and other AC companies agree. So what John Moore Services does is they take the part they need to replace (in this case $1450) and divide that price by two. This is for ALL parts under manufacture warranty. MOST companies just charge actual labor but they tack on 1/2 the price of the unit they are replacing. Just a heads up. Unless you pay the God-Awful amount for their 10 year warranty they will get you with labor on the manufacturer warranty. We asked "Since we bought the part from John Moore can we just get the part and have another company come out and replace it for us since they would only charge us $300?" They said "If you have another company install the blower motor they will have to supply the part and contact the manufacturer themselves." Well GG John Moore, you made your money! read more

Over the phone, my mother was told that a worker would come between the hours of 12-4 to give us an estimate on how much unclogging our sink would cost. The woman she talked to over the phone assured her that we would get a free estimate. However, the worker arrived extremely late, and gave us an estimate that was out of our budget. My dad declined the offer and asked him to leave. However, the worker demanded $69 for "service fees". This is ridiculous. Not only did they arrive 45 minutes past the anticipated time period, but they also expected us to pay $69 because he drove here and told us a price. Gas does not even cost that much. I have an insured who had a tiny little water spot on her bedroom ceiling that was completely dried up so that the only necessary work would be to paint over it -- a simple $150-$200 job at most. Nothing more was needed whatsoever and definitely not drywall repair. As an adjuster, I always go out of my way to help insureds as much as possible, and there is no way anything more than painting would be needed here. This is the standard operating practice of the insurance, construction, and mitigation industries in this situation. If the drywall is still wet, it is a different situation and the drywall would be replaced, but it still would not come even close to this crazy amount. So this woman named Colleen from John Moore came and gave this poor naive woman a quote for no less than $2800!! I even took a photo: $800 demo (remove a 2'x2' patch of drywall - about $30) $750 install same amount of drywall (about $30) $816 tape, float, texture (basically meaning tape paper around the area so it doesn't get paint on it - love the odd number of $816 to make it seem legit - about $40) $300 add insulation (which would not even cost 16 of that, and which the estimator even admitted was dry and not in need of replacement. An 8'x8' sf area would be about $15) $500 paint (for a 10'x12' room like this, about $100 at most) Now, to be fair, we would add minimum labor hours to make it worth the contractor's while, which means the job might total $300-$400 to get somebody to come out there, but $2800??? No way. This is insane... I have seen scammers in my time as an adjuster, but NEVER have I seen a bigger scammer than this Colleen woman. Just totally disgusting. So I called her up on speaker phone with the insured standing there and asked her how she could possibly justify this hyper-inflated number. Her response? She totally freaked out at being busted, yelled at me for being "unethical" (!) and hung up on the phone on me. Granted, maybe it was just her, but I have a hard time believing that this company is not aware of, and likely encourages, such practices. "Unethical" doesn't even close to taking advantage of older people after a hurricane. And worse, they made this poor woman put down half the money (which she'll probably never get back), obviously scaring her into doing it. And by the way, there is never need to "warranty" something as minor as a paint job. That would be like buying a gallon of milk and then paying $120 for a "warranty." That just does not happen with a simple job like this in this business. These people are LIARS!!!!! Do not believe them and do no use them. I called at 1:00 p.m. when I got home and discovered my AC didn't work and asked if they could send someone out today. Because if they couldn't I was going to call around and find someone else while it was still early. The ASSURED me they would have someone out today, between 5 and 8 p.m. So I called work to wait for them to go ahead and get it fixed. Well come 5:30 someone called and said they were running behind (yes, the theme of the reviews on here) and would not be able to come out today after all but they would schedule me for "first" thing tomorrow morning. When I told them that was not acceptable and that I would find someone else they magically could send someone. Fast forward two hours, and 3-4 deg hotter in my house, later still no one was here so I called back and there was some kind of "mix up" because I never had an appointment today, but they could try to send someone out tomorrow. I must have misunderstood. I just hung up. I would rather sit in the heat a week and wait for someone who is honest about not being able to come out than deal with such blatantly dishonest people. I called to have a lighting fixture replaced. The service guy (Briscoe) that came out was absolutely wonderful. Courteous ... respectful - just great. I would give him 5 stars. Here is what you need to know ... you will be charged a "trip charge" Meaning John Moore will charge you to have the service person drive to your house. So my charge for installing the light was $129.99. The trip charge was $69.99. I was unaware that the company was charging a trip charge IN ADDITION to the service fee. read more

Called them two days ago for a quote for my rental property to replace all main panels for all apartments. This is approximately a $10.000 to $15.000 job. They charged me $49.00 fee to come out and give me a quote. They had a 4 hour time frame from 10 am till 2 pm and never showed up. They didn't even call me.
