Joe Allen is a New York institution, and it isn't uncommon to see Broadway actors eating here before or after shows. The first time I ate here a famous TV and stage actor walked in! The ambiance is fantastic with a step-down to enter and soft warm lights inside. Actor photos hang on the walls. Service is great and the food is served quickly. And it's delicious! I've had the steak fritas and meatloaf. The steak is excellent.

Our first time here! I had dinner last night (1/7/26) after seeing a show. We were seated immediately by a very welcoming host or manager, who couldn't have made us feel more at home. Our server, whose name I wish I remembered, a petite blonde woman, was honestly a dream. She was so kind, quick and funny, my husband and I agreed we wish she could have sat down and joined us. Our food barely hit the table before it was gone. I've never had chicken melt in my mouth the way the francese did here. And the banana pie? Holy crap. We will 100% be back to try more of the menu, as ex-restaurant employees, we have not been this impressed by an establishment in a very long time. Thank you so much!!!

Joe Allen is one of those New York places that delivers time and time and time again. Great atmosphere. Wonderful service. But most importantly the kitchen and bar just seem to turn out greatness year after year after year. The bar team always knows how to make great cocktails. You want a real martini? Hit the bar at Joe Allen - they got you covered. Wine list is super strong. Beer, too. Most importantly, though, the kitchen... there's nothing on that menu that's not a 5-star dish. I've always been a sucker for the Steak Tartare. I'd argue it's one of the top preparations in New York City. Do yourself a favor and visit Joe Allen.

I love this place! Every time I visit NYC I see a show and have a late dinner at Joe Allen afterwards. And lots of people have the same idea - the place is packed and they are playbills all over. The burger is good but this time we went with the chicken and mashed potatoes. Delicious! They have a house wine available and you can get it in three different sizes which I really like. They make a good martini. Service is good. I wish I lived here and could go more often. ( we have had quite a few sightings of actors too)

Great spot to hit up after you see a broadway play! Get a reservation, and try to arrive around 10pm to get a glimpse of the actors and artists that are performing in the area.

Have lived in the area in for quite a while and came on a recommendation from a friend - and BOY were my expectations exceeded! Great ambiance for restaurant row and convinced Sean, our server, gave us the best service we've had in years of eating in Hell's Kitchen - an area known for being the cornerstone of great hospitality - but despite the spot being busy in its pre-show rush (if you're seeing a show on Broadway, definitely hit Joe Allen) he gave great recommendations on the menu, was knowledgeable about the area as well as Joe Allen itself and had a great understanding of the company culture. We'll be trying out the sister restaurant next door and the bar next per his recommendation. If I were his boss I'd give him a raise! Onto drinks. Great beer selection with some solid, unique but familiar, draft options, and had a really diverse selection of liquor. Grabbed a super dirty martini and was impressed with the chilled sidecar (more places should do it) as well as the balance of the cocktail itself. Super yummy and perfectly made. The guac with taro chips was delicious and the chips were made perfectly, didn't feel greasy or oily and felt healthy + comfort-foody simultaneously, which is hard to do. I had about three different entrees lined up mentally as everything sounded delicious. Menu is a perfect mix of classics with twists and some English-Irish staples to my understanding. My partner went with the Meatloaf & I did the Steak-Frites. If I could give six stars I would. Fries were perfectly crispy, the red wine jus for the Steak was PERFECT, and the strip was cooked to medium rare perfection. The meatloaf was savory and had the perfect consistency and was divine. Will be making this the new go-to spot. Delicious.

I came here for my 30th birthday (the night before technically). We were doing a show so we wanted to do a cute little theater night and came here. It was kind of hard to get a reservation so this was more of a late lunch at 4:30. I ordered the calf's liver which was super yummy. I was disappointed they wouldn't let me sub the spinach for broccoli (they had broccoli as a side option on the menu). My roommate had the steak and said it was excellent. Unfortunately me and my roommate ended up having stomach issues later in the evening.

Can you tell me what time on a Thursday it would be less crowded? (Being Covid cautious...) Thank you~

Thursday is the busiest night in nyc. Go to Joe allen at 7:45. It will Be quiet until 9:30

I'm planning on dining solo at the bar before heading to a Broadway show on a Tuesday night. How much time do you recommend I allow for dinner? Also do they offer their full menu at the bar?

I do think you have to give them more than an hour, 90 min to two hours to play it safe.

Is Joe Allen's open tonight and do they have food delivery? If so,what delivery service are they using?

Go somewhere else. They are NOT vegan/vegetarian friendly.

Will Joe Allen's kitchen renovations be completed by November 9? We will have a vegan in our party and I need to know that she will be able to order something there besides…

I think your best bet is to call and ask. When I was there on October 2nd, they still had the limited menu. BTW, per my server's recommendation, I had the beet salad as my appetizer. It was a sizable portion and I loved it which is really something… Read more

As I walked in and saw just how swanky this place is I panicked - there was no way we could just walk in here without a reservation, right? But the hostess was, thankfully, so down to earth. I was straight up like hey I totally messed up and thought we could just walk in here, she was like you know what, let me see what we have. Lo and behold, she did have a table for us - as long as we were out in an hour and a half, which was just the right amount of time. Stepping into this place feels like you're in some secret, super special cocktail club. Decor is super high end, vibes are upscale AF. The cocktail menu is incredible -- and incredibly pricey, but truly worth it. I ordered the Valentino which was strong and sweet, really well made. They gave out a complimentary nut mix that was also delicious. Service was swift and gracious. If you're looking for a spot to impress a date, this is it.

There's also seating on the second floor, perfect for couples or small groups. I tried two of their cocktails when I went. The first was the Eastern Julep, a delicious twist on a classic. The mint Moroccan tea gave the drink a cool, refreshing taste on every sip. I also tried the Silver Screen, the closest drink I could find to an old fashioned. It was interesting, there was definitely a hint of a buttery taste. Overall a really balanced bourbon drink. I walked in and found room at the standing tables. A bar seat eventually opened up but I was already on my second drink by then. Definitely make reservations if you're planning a visit!

The bar seating was plentiful and comfortable. There is plenty of space for people to stand behind the bar or a high top tables enjoying happy hour after work. If you go at 4:30 or 5, it's a bit calmer as the after work crowd trickles in. And as the evening went on, it started to get more and more packed, and it became a really lively vibe. After my friend left for another function, I stuck around a little bit longer for a little solo dinner. I had a glass of Prosecco off the happy hour menu followed by a dirty martini, and I did request to look at their full dinner menu because there was a couple items that I wanted to try. I wanted to try the duck Ragu and halloumi cheese, both of which were absolutely fantastic. The halloumi cheese was perfectly grilled and flavorful, and the duck Ragu was very comforting. I highly recommend both dishes. I ended up chatting with a woman sitting next to me who happened to work with select apertivo, and next thing I know one of the bartenders handed me a lovely bright cocktail to try on the house. It was a refreshing bubbly Barlume spritz that I'll definitely have to get again next time. Overall, I had a really great time at Barlume. The service was excellent from the servers and the bartenders, and they were all very attentive, personable and friendly throughout the evening. It's a small area with the tables pretty close together. We were given a table in the far corner, which was perfect for comfort and looking out at the restaurant. Two of us each ordered a glass of house wine, which were "ok." We opted for the Boqueria Experience, which is $65 per person and includes a variety of chef-selected tapas, a paella and an order of the restaurant's special JAMÓN IBÉRICO DE BELLOTA, which is described on the charcuterie menu as aged 48 months, with deep marbling, rich and nutty flavor. We enjoyed most of the tapas, including the potatoes, the beef/lamb balls, the salad and bruschetta. The croquettes were "ok" with the heavy aeoli masking some of the flavor. The seafood paella was good and was different from ones I've had in the past, with the caramelized layer on the bottom. Yum. Honestly, none of us was a big fan of the Jamon Iberico de Bellota. I'm sure it's special and luxurious, but we found it not to have much flavor. Frankly, it was a big disappointment for us. The service was beyond excellent. We were very pleased with the timing of the presentation of the meal, the superb water service and the general enthusiasm and pleasantness of the Staff. We will come back and try different items on the ala carte menu. I thought there would be more seafood and meat tapas offerings in the "Experience". Instead, it was a lot of cheese, vegetables, dates and bread. Although $65 per person likely was a good value for what we got, I think the tapas items were heavy on the lower cost tapas and that it wasn't a true top-of-the-line "Experience". A seafood dish or even a chicken dish (chicken wings) instead of one of the two croquette offerings would have helped.

We shared the crispy artichokes (outstanding) and the cacio e Pepe arancini (where the fried parsley was especially unique and delicious) to start. I found the hodgepodge of old-timey decor to be a bit kitsch, but to each their own. I came with a group on a weeknight with no reservation. We were seated immediately on a high wood table. Although the bar wasn't busy (there were plenty of empty spaces, small groups scattered throughout the area), the service was quite slow. The server was inattentive and took a while to take our orders. We had to ask her for water three times, searching for her across the room in an attempt to catch her attention. She was a bit absent during the two-ish hours we were there. On the bright side, the drinks were fairly good. I ordered this strawberry vodka cocktail topped with whole mint. I'm wary of vodka for its harsh, unpleasant taste, but I found this drink to actually be very pleasant, tasing like a fruit smoothie you'd get from a local juicer. There was also a burgundy drink served on a wine glass that tasted like the holidays. I liked that one quite a bit. Overall, Oscar Wilde was an okay experience. It's certainly a bar for a certain type of crowd, and the service was lacking, but maybe we went on a bad night. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll be served better than we were.
