Holy cow! This place is great. The waitress, Kaitlyn, was attentive and super polite. Our drinks never got half empty before she was filling them up again. We ordered a cob salad and asked for two plates. She had the kitchen staff separate it for us. Had the brandy poppyseed dressing -YUMMMM! Husband had the chicken philly and it was seasoned well and really good. Their chips are homemade in house and really good too. I had heir garlic parm wings and they were seasoned to perfection and not overly saturated in sauce. Their prices are about $$ but well worth it. Love this restaurant for just great food. unfortunately I was disappointed to see that staff was not masked. The tables were distanced but staff stood too close We wore masks in to protect workers so the restaurant can stay open but if they are not willing to protect the customer, we will be back when there is a vaccination. read more

The wings were absolutely fantastic, cooked perfectly and the buffalo sauce was delicious hand made or not it was fantastic. Over the years I have been in and out of this place. They have frequent car shows that are a big attraction. I remember several summer nights cruising through and hanging out. I believe the actual building used to be a Ponderosa at one time. When I go I almost always get the cheeseburger. They used to donate to the USO on the all American burger, but I did not see it advertised any more. They do seem to support veterans and active duty personnel. Oh yeah, they give out free popcorn too which my wife loves. They also have free party rooms for large parties I am sure I will be back, more often as car show season is about to fire up. No ding on JJs, but do the damn roads seem to always be under construction for the last decade, around there? read more

The food was the definition of 'Meh'. And, given the cost, meh is not acceptable. Got the Blue Blitz Burger. Bacon was way under cooked. As for the sauteed onions, if you're only going to have them on the grill for half a minute, call them what they are...raw onions. After removing everything, the burger tasted good. So, once I get home and cook the other ingredients, it'll probably be decent. Got the Chili Mac. For $13.99. There was so little cheese, they really shouldn't even say they put it on. And famous chili? Famous for what? You charging that much for something barely better than canned chili. This item was a huge disappointment. Steak N Shake is half the price and way better. The cheese quesadilla was good. But, come on, it's a cheese quesadilla. Didn't come with the advertised lettuce or 'fiery ranch'. (Although given the paltry sum of lettuce I received with the burger, it's probably just as well they didn't include it.) And, finally, the country fried steak dinner. The sides were good. Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. The brown gravy was pretty tasty. The steak however was tough and leathery. I don't think there's any way to fix this later. Doesn't look like much when you walk by or drive by this establishment but let me tell you don't know what you're missing. We found this little gem about 16 years ago. It is our "go to" place if we are craving the Best Cheeseburger in town. We love the fries too. Service is usually fantastic. We love that it's smoke-free. The decor is warm and inviting if you like the down to earth atmosphere. We love the seasame seed bun and all the fixings this burger brings. The vintage car shows are the icing on the cake too! I love this place and it's pretty close to home! JJ's has really great burgers and pizza. The burgers are fresh and made daily and never frozen. Even the bison burger isn't frozen. There are lots of specialty burgers to choose from, which I like. They have a really good blue cheese and bacon burger, called the Black and Blue (I think). The other menu items not too not worthy, but not terrible. Just your standard American fair for those who don't like to venture out of their safe place. The french fries are regular ol' crinkle cut, but I love them so it works out for me. Onto the pizza. I ordered a personal size pepperoni and mushroom, my standard. It was awesome gooey cheese-y, gooey-ness. They probably use provel and that is fine by me and thin crust. The personal pizza was enough for me to be full. A small salad might have been nice, but the pizza was already $9 or so. Breakfast is good. It's been over a year since I have been for breakfast, but it is your standard eggs, bacon and pancake type stuff. It's definitely time for another visit. I've visited for lunch and was in and out. I like it when I don't have to ask for the check. I've also walked in a half an hour before close and was treated just as nice as if it was opening time. We didn't realize they closed so early so we hurried up, but there was no rush at all. Our server was so nice and helpful! I asked her lots of questions about the burgers and pizza and she had all of the answers and was nice about it. That makes me so happy. Everyday JJ's has a special, it's listed on the board as soon as you walk in. They're good specials, too! Like all you can eat fish and chips and kids eat free. I can't remember the specific days for them. The decor is like a run down Applebee's with a car theme. Everything is old, but I like it some alter ego way. JJ's hosts car shows once a month or so from 4pm-8pm (I think). The parking lot is full of old cars and their owners waiting for you come come by and take a look. The restaurant and bar offer specials on those days spacial for the car show. JJ's is an all around cool place. read more

A friend & I went to JJs last evening about 5:30. Not only were none of the employees (servers & hosts) wearing masks, several of them (4) were all huddled around the hostess stand & lobby area. The hostess took us to an appropriately social distanced table but tried to give us menus that had just been taken off another patron's table without being sanitized. If management is that careless about obvious precautions it makes me wonder what is going on behind the scenes. read more

We've been having breakfast at J.J.'s for decades. You just can't beat the prices, food quality, and waitstaff. They've done a lot of redecorating over the years, and they just put up a brand new sign....but they are the same J.J.'s that we fell in love with. They have a great breakfast menu, and everything is fresh - eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, country fried steak....yum! Have the Big Breakfast, which includes eggs, meat, toast, hash browns, biscuits and gravy for less than ten bucks. Last weekend, on a whim, I tried the waffles for the first time and they were freshly made, crisp and delicious. I came here because it is near where my car received service and my favorite breakfast place is usually quite busy on Saturday mornings. Had the Large Pancake Plate for breakfast. I got it with bacon, eggs, hash browns, and two pancakes. The bacon was dry and lifeless. The eggs I had scrambled and were kind of bland even after I added pepper and salt --but I still had the pancakes, right? Sorry, they weren't the light airy ones like I'm accustomed to. They were heavy and dry causing me to use up all my syrup to help get them down. I've made breakfasts like this before and why I wanted to eat out. On the up side, the place was not busy, (I now realize why) the food arrived quickly, and my server was pleasant. I would give them another try in the off chance that I got a new cook or a grille malfunction. I've been here for the burgers and loved it! read more

Pretty solid place for burgers, appetizers, and food that is on the indulgent side of the spectrum. We stopped in after 8 p.m. on Friday night, starving. It took a minute to get seated, but we received great service once we did. Our waitress Rachel was attentive and helpful, which was appreciated being this was our first time here. We thought it was pretty boss that they bring you a big pitcher full of popcorn when they seat you. The food prices were average, but we scored a half-price deal on wings and Bosco sticks (Fridays and Saturdays only after 8). The Bosco sticks were a tiny bit overcooked, but still fine. The wings were pretty average; we'd get them again if we were there, but we wouldn't seek them out otherwise. Both the hubby and I ordered burgers. They didn't ask us how we wanted them cooked, and honestly we were too hungry to care. My husband got a regular cheeseburger and thought it was great, particularly the toasted sesame bun. I got a burger with cheddar, BBQ sauce, and onion rings. I usually like a medium-rare patty but the flavor of the whole burger was so good, I didn't mind the well done patty. My husband and I are on different planes when it comes to french fries, so we were pleasantly surprised to have fry options. Hubby got the skinny fries, and I got the crinkle cuts; hooray for variety! We ordered way more food that we could eat, and ate way more of it than we should have, but it was a fun outing for sure. JJ's has become one of my favorite "mom and pop" diners in St Charles. The food is always good, especially the burgers. Breakfast is also hard to beat here. Service is above par, and empty glasses are in short supply here. I never complain about my service, though there isn't much flair about it either. JJ's has become my go-to place for dinner if I don't feel like cooking, mainly because it's directly outside my apartment complex. But even if it were I'd still probably visit because the food is solid, the price decent, and I love diners. So far I've visited for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast was typical diner format. I liked the corned beef hash. I wish the hash was cooked a little more to get the crust on it. The rest of the meal, eggs, bacon, toast, etc. were done well and tasty. The real reason to visit is the burgers. You only need a single, the double is huge. here's a big list of different specialty burgers with everything from "Cajun spices" (I'm from South Louisiana, it's not Cajun) to a fried egg to onion rings. Don't like burgers? Sub out a turkey burger or chicken breast for free. That's right, free. Burgers come with a side, your choice of fries or house made chips, or onion rings or a salad for an extra charge. They have special throughout the week, including Free Pie Wednesday where you get a free slice with your dinner. So, here's the tough part and the big downside: like many restaurants in St. Charles JJ's allows smoking. Yes, there's two different rooms, one smoking and one non, but that smoke is still there even faintly and I don't care for it when I'm eating. Best solution: get it to go. read more

This is one of our staples. When we are ready for a burger, we head straight to JJs. Great burgers. Always great, smiling service. We've never had to wait, regardless of how busy the restaurant is. My family absolutely loves this place. They have a decent selection of beer for those that like more than Budweiser products. The burgers are THE best in town, hands down. I'm a fan of the Ranch Burger. They only use real beef, and it's always fresh. The salads are fantastic as well. You can choose spring mix or iceberg, and the salads are very filling. If you order chicken on your salad, you'll get a humongous helping! The fries are the only items that are just ok. If they order some better quality of fries, I'd give 5 stars. Tonight I ordered a steak with green beans and chicken enchilada soup. The soup was thick and very spicy. The green beans were bland and seemed canned... it took quite a bit of salt to make them edible. However, I was actually impressed with the steak. For the price, it wasn't bad at all. My 8-oz. sirloin was cooked to perfection and surprisingly tender. I can't say the food at JJ's is the absolute best I've ever had, but it's definitely solid. A three star rating seems about right. I live really close to this place and have for about 5 years. The place is really important in my childhood. Everything I've ever ordered is fantastic. I'm not speaking of a specific experience, but instead what I have seen over the years. The people are always kind and helpful when taking your order. The atmosphere is nice and we like watching games on the TVs. Since this place is so close to us, it has sort of become a hometown staple and whenever we pass it we can always recall something we adore about it. The food is good as well, of course. Waited over 15 minutes for someone to come take just our drink order. Then when are food got to the table not all of our order was correct. After getting our food the waitress never returned to the table to refill drinks waited over 20 minutes for refills finally went and got the hostess and ask for a receipt when we receive the receipt we were given someone else's receipt and charged for it. I had to bring it the hostess to get my bill corrected .once I got my bill corrected I still was never handed a receipt showing physical printout of what I ordered just a total.
