I had mixed feelings about my visit. The coffee was honestly the biggest disappointment it tasted like the beans had been roasted far too long, leaving it with a burnt flavor that made it hard to drink. The food, however, was much better. I ordered the "Mommy, Where Does Bacon Come From?" sandwich, and it was delicious. The pretzel bun was soft and fresh, and the sandwich had great flavor overall. I also tried the fried steak, which was cooked well and tasted great. The service was okay, but it was pretty slow. The ambiance was fine the walls are covered in writing, which is clearly part of the restaurant's design and gives it a unique character. Overall, the food was the highlight of the experience. On a rare lazy day (we hardly ever get those), we headed to The Shack for brunch. We were seated quickly, and the hostess welcomed us right away, which set a great tone. I tried the "Dude Abides" drink--if you love cold coffee, this one's definitely for you. We also ordered the "Mother Clucker Wrap." It was such a great morning after an early hockey practice at the Wentzville Ice Arena, and we were all craving a big, satisfying breakfast. Our search led us to The Shack, and even though there was a bit of a wait, it absolutely paid off. You sign in through the app and check in at the front desk, and from there it took about 25-30 minutes. But honestly, once we stepped inside, we knew it was worth every minute. The atmosphere is incredible, walls covered in handwritten messages and graffiti-style art that give the place so much personality. It feels like a fun, lively diner with its own unique charm. Once we were seated, service kicked in right away. Our server greeted us quickly and got our drinks started. I didn't hesitate to order their black coffee, and it did not disappoint. I love a good brewed coffee, and theirs was bold, smooth, and bottomless, which made waiting for the food even more enjoyable. For my meal, I went all in with the Kitchen Sink topped with sunny-side-up eggs. It was a feast, so much food that I'm pretty sure it could carry me straight through to dinner. I also added The Shack Pancake on the side, and it was fantastic: fluffy, flavorful, and perfect with their syrup and butter. My son ordered the biscuits with gravy on the side, plus a hash brown and chocolate milk. He's six, so it was a big plate for him, but he enjoyed it. He's used to the hash brown patties from Trader Joe's, so this was a fun change of pace. My wife went with the Starchy & Cluck, and I snagged a bite, so good. It hits that perfect sweet-and-salty balance that makes breakfast feel extra special. Overall, the entire experience was a win for us. Great food, fun atmosphere, and friendly service. Horrible experience at what I once thought was a quality place. Today's omelette was burnt. Brown, crispy edges topped with deteriorating pico de gallo (at least 3-4 days old) and avocado so bruised, it tasted like spoiled baby food. I give this place a solid 3 . Food is always good and tasty; will eat and have nothing to complain about. But it's not great food like you had the best meal of your week (ex. my biscuit was doughy and underbaked; not bad enough to send it back or say anything but disappointing). The ambiance is very confusing. Relaxed but with drawings on the walls. Our servers have always been good and helpful. This is not a breakfast place we plan to go to as often as possible, but it's a solid option when other places aren't panning out. read more

The food was mediocre at.Best. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs and so did my friend and the gravy just tasted like flour like it didn't get a chance to cook The steak. Itself was extremely grizzly and I had to spit parts out. It also took a very long time over 35 minutes to get our food. The waitress was told about our issue after she dropped off the bill. I had my first breakfast at the Shack. I was alone so I asked to sit at the bar. The waitress and tender I believe was Emily? This fine lady, and the kitchen staff were on top of my experience. The Notorious was a little bit of everything on one plate. The biscuits and gravy were delicious. The biscuits were actually a bit crispy on the crust. The biscuits inside were moist and buttery. My eggs were sunny side up and perfectly to my taste. The sausage and hash browns complimented the rest of my meal. The coffee was from the pot. The carafe was even placed in front of me for refills! Food was pretty good to say the least: the notorious BNG was a pretty basic breakfast, it had great set up and overall good flavor but the gravy needs more seasoning, the eggs were overcooked, and the sausage was really watery. The make a grown man cry burrito was really good and had the perfect ratio of filling and the French toast stix were good as well. I also liked the water carafe good touch but needs ice. food came out fast, waitress was pretty slow with the check but overall she did her job and checked up on us. The ambiance was cute and very family friendly, I liked the different choice in style however the bathroom was out of TP and some of the stuff written on the walls in our booth has some nasty words and symbols. read more

The shack is one of my favorite spots for breakfast/brunch. Service has always been very good. Bring a sharpie and have fun writing graffiti on the wall. It's part of the fun. The menu has a big selection of breakfast favorites, healthy choices, and even cocktails. Everything on the menu has been outstanding. My only complaint is it gets incredibly busy on the weekends and sometimes there's quite a long wait. Try to go during off-peak times to avoid long waits. read more
