I grabbed a seat and ordered a strawberry milkshake and some Old Bay/Maple chips. The service was absolutely outstanding. My server Chuck was extremely friendly, talkative, and helpful. He was able to give me great recommendations and made sure I was always attended to. I watched them make the milkshake, which included hand scooped ice cream, strawberries, and strawberry syrup, which was then blended to perfection. They have me the milkshake glass, then the container they mixed the milkshake in that had extra ice cream--I basically got two milkshakes in one! The chips came out and were warm, well seasoned, and there was a TON of them. I liked the sweet and spicy combo of the Old Bay and Maple. They also have an old school jukebox, which is completely free to use. I chose a song and it played for the entire shop, so cool! Between the amazing service, endless flavor combos, and the retro atmosphere, this place couldn't be better. Highly recommend!

I think it's worth mentioning that I've never had pit beef before so I am by no means an expert as to what's good or not. I will also say however, that what I ordered, the open face pit beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy was ok. The entire plate was swimming in gravy so that took away from what could've been a better meal. I did ask for gravy on the whole sandwich and the mashed potatoes (because the picture on their website looked like gravy only came on the mashed potatoes and I do like a little extra) but I wasn't expecting a to-go box literally full of gravy, so that's probably my fault. The texture of the beef mixed with all the gravy and mashed potatoes was a bit unpleasant and soupy and I periodically had to pick burnt bits and foil out my mouth so that also took away from the experience. They seem to have a pretty vast menu and I had no idea what I was going to get when I walked in. The young lady that took my order was very friendly and helped me come to my decision so the customer service was good and I appreciated her patience with me. As far as ambiance goes, while I was waiting for my order, there was an older man waiting for his order that was yelling at the tv about how Joe Biden hasn't done anything for this country and that Trump only told the truth. I try not to get caught up in politics with strangers because it really can be off putting but what can you do. I wouldn't do the gravy with a side of open face pit beef sandwich again but there's so many other options I'd like to try in the future should I find myself in the area again. A man that was also waiting for his order said he really like the ribs.

But now they are Italian and part of a growing chain of restaurants. I wish they would remove the "Curry Cafe" sign from their side window because it brings me grief. They no longer have any Indian food on their menu, or anything remotely curry-like, so this is false advertising, but we used to go to Caddyshack for Butter Chicken and the like, when we had a craving and now we have to go into the city to find delicious Indian food. I miss the convenience of being able to go just down the street for mango lassis and naan. I don't eat nearly as much Indian food as I would like because Fell's Point seems like such a haul from Dundalk. It's not, really, but you get my point. We were coming home from Jeremy's surgery and no one had the energy to make dinner. We needed something cheap that could feed three people (Justin was with us because Jeremy wasn't allowed to drive after his ordeal, and I can't drive) so pizza sounded about right. Even when this place was Caddyshack, we never ordered pizza, so we took a shot and I ordered online (I love the convenience of being able to do that. Socially awkward people unite!). The pizza (with sausage, pepperoni, and onion) was amazing. The crust is thin, with enough flavor to it that my cat Jayne decided that he needed to steal my bone/crust right off my plate. He's so spoiled. The onions were a little sparse, but my tastebuds didn't miss them because the sausage and pepperoni were so delicious. They were running a deal for Tuesday, where you could get a 16" three-topping pizza for a VERY reasonable price, so I tacked on some hot honey wings, too. Not a fan of those. They're typical wings, but the hot honey sauce didn't sing. I should have ordered my favorite - sweet thai chili, so that's MY error, not the restaurant's. I would definitely go back for the pizza. The three of us tore through that thing, leaving nothing behind. Really superb.

Very good pizza, excellent cream of crab soup, even better price! I will keep going back.read more

I travel to Baltimore often for work, and when two completely separate people tell me I need to eat…read moresomewhere, eventually I'm going to listen. In the case of Chaps Pit Beef, I've now listened twice. First, the setting deserves its own star. There's something wonderfully Baltimore about pulling into a place famous across the country for pit beef, sharing the immediate surroundings with a strip club, and knowing you can shop for used tires across the street when you're finished. Add the walls of awards, television appearances, photos and decades of accumulated lore inside and the whole thing feels less like stopping for lunch and more like making a small pilgrimage. And that's part of why I'm struggling with Chaps. I've tried several of the sandwiches across my two visits. I've piled on the raw onions, pickles and sauces. I've ordered too much--which feels both heroic and completely appropriate here--and walked away convinced that Chaps is very good. But I haven't found my five-star Chaps order yet. The pit beef itself is clearly the reason for the pilgrimage, and the condiment station is part of the experience. Beef, raw onion and that horseradish-heavy Tiger Sauce is a combination I could happily keep attacking. But then you look around at the menu and realize you've barely scratched the surface: beef, sausage, corned beef, turkey, enormous combinations of all of the above, gravy fries, homemade sides and sandwiches carrying names and reputations of their own. It's almost overwhelming. That's ultimately why I'm leaving Chaps at four stars--for now. There's a five-star experience hiding here. I can feel it. I'm just not convinced I've ordered it yet. Next visit I'm stripping this thing back before building it up again: pit beef medium-rare, raw onion and Tiger Sauce as the control. Then I'm going in the opposite direction with one of the ridiculous combinations--probably Guy's DDD--and finally giving the gravy fries their proper opportunity. If that unlocks what generations of Baltimoreans and seemingly every food television personality already know, I'll happily come back here and move this to five stars. If after three visits I'm still admiring the institution more than craving the food, maybe it moves the other direction. For now: Chaps is absolutely worth the stop. The food is good, the history is real, and the atmosphere couldn't be manufactured if someone tried. I just haven't cracked the code yet. Four stars, with one more trip pending.

The perfect spot for locals to grab a coffee on their way to work or an afternoon lunch spot. Joanna's has a really nice menu with quite a few breakfast and lunch options. The latte was little on the sweet side for me, but the flavor was decent. The breakfast sandwich I got on an asiago bagel, and it was pure deliciousness. The chicken sausage was seasoned nicely, and the asiago bagel was so soft and pillowy. I thoroughly enjoyed this sandwich. And the muffin was quite tasty too. With so many items to try on Joanna's menu and their good customer service, I'll definitely be back to try some other things when I'm in the area.

Between the phenomenal liquor selection, full pharmacy services, and the hidden Fountain lunch counter in the back, it is the ultimate one stop shop. This is my absolute go to liquor store in Maryland. It is a true bourbon destination that has rightfully been featured on several bourbon YouTube channels. They are known for their excellent selection of whiskey, consistently landing rare allocations while maintaining some of the best pricing in the area. I make it a point to stop by every single week because their inventory is always changing and you never know what you might find on the shelves. They also run a very generous rewards program. It allows you to bank your points over time so you can eventually use them to purchase high end, rare bottles at MSRP dealer prices, which is a massive perk for enthusiasts. Outside of the liquor store portion, the rest of the business is great too. The pharmacy side is fully stocked with unique Maryland specific items, and they have a highly capable, helpful staff behind the pharmacy counter. As I have written in my review of their hidden speakeasy style lunch counter in the back, The Fountain, it is an absolute gem for lunch, a bourbon bar, and an ice cream destination. We came for the liquor store, but stayed for lunch at their soda fountain/lunch counter in the back of the store. They have a good selection of whiskey with very good prices. I really enjoyed my chicken dumpling daily soup special at the soda fountain, but the star of the show was my chocolate peanut butter milkshake. The food in there is simple lunch fare but you cannot beat the prices. they have a long list of seasonings you can add to your potato chips that I want to come back and try more of. Note that purchases from anywhere in the store (not just the liquor section) count towards their rewards program.
