I haven't ate the food yet, but I have a wing. It was lemon pepper. It was perfectly seasoned. It seemed like most of the wings were dry up, but I did catch a little lemon pepper juice. Steak n cheese: I will say there steak and cheese sandwich is very good! Flavorful and full of meat. However I didn't like the fact they charge you extra for green peppers, onion and mushrooms (those are staples things that come on cheese steak). Crispy chicken sandwich: Was okay/ I had a huge life of bread and lots of lettuce with a small piece of chicken priced at $9, I could've went to Popeyes and had a bigger chicken sandwich for less. Wings: Crispy, fresh & good! They serve breakfast all day (starting at 9am). I also loved the fact they have Mumbo sauce (A Washington DC classic chicken sauce) and their Mumbo sauce taste just like my hometown. I can't say whether it was worth the drive but they sure do make a mean cheesesteak! We came in on a Monday evening, and it wasn't busy. The space is small but there is a 2-3 person seating area by the window. We ordered the skipper (overstuffed) cheesesteak and a chicken cheesesteak. The skipper was really good and flavorful. Extremely disappointed. I ordered an Italian grinder with lettuce, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar. I got Italian grinder meats, no lettuce, possibly some oil and spices and MAYO. Who puts mayonnaise on an Italian grinder?? Especially when I didn't ask for it. The overall sandwich was ok besides ruining my lunch with mayonnaise that I didn't ask for. We have been going to the original Captain Harvey's for years. Yes it wasn't a great place as far nice. We went they this past Jan 2025 and they were closed. So we tried this place. It was clean. However we got a full cheese steak. My husband and I got two hairs in our sub. Never will we go back again. We don't live in Dundalk but we were born and raised there. While on my quest to find the ultimate cheesesteak I was told about this place. So, since I was literally driving through Baltimore I had to stop and try it. So let's first start off and clarify that this place does not serve cheesesteaks. What they do serve is a steak sub with cheese. What's the difference? Well, a cheesesteak is grilled with the cheese and the meat mixed together. This place does not do that. They take a large Italian roll, put in a spicy Mayo, lettuce, tomato pickles and your choice of cheese, then they layer shaved meat and sautéed onions on top. A LOT of steak and onions. Now the bread is tasty. The spicy Mayo yummy. The lettuce, tomato and pickles keep things interesting. But the fact that the cheese isn't grilled with the steak is a bit of a let down. The meat itself is shaved very thin, which if you've been to Pat's King of steaks or even Gino's in Philly you know their meat is thicker cut and has a lot of flavor. This shaved beef at Captain Harvey's not so much. It is flat in flavor. It could use some spice. A little salt, some garlic powder, maybe even some Montreal Steak Seasoning... but it needs something. And while the flavors of the other items shine through, the meat simply disappoints. The other part of this is I got the full Steak Sub which took me all day to eat. For $17 it's a pretty good deal. But understand, this is a sandwich which requires a fork and knife or at LEAST four hands to eat! It's a real beast! Was it worth the drive? Absolutely! Is it the greatest cheesesteak of all time? I am surprised that Captain Harvey's only has a couple reviews. If you live in Dundalk, then you know Captain Harvey's. I only come to Dundalk on occassion for work related reasons and usually try to get Captain Harvey's when I do. The cheesesteaks are the biggest cheesesteaks I have ever seen in my life. A half cheesesteak could serve two people or possibly two meals. And that comes from someone who will usually eat a whole cheesesteaks at most establishments. At Captain Harvey's that's not happening. Overall the cheeseteaks are good, but they do lack some flavor in them. So, if you're going to order one, you might want to season it before you eat it. I think, that if I were starving and hadn't eaten barely anything in weeks - my overstuffed sub, would have looked like a Thanksgiving feast, with it's piled high meat, mounds of shredded lettuce, chunks of tomatoes, all snuggled together in a huge bun and what's with the onions? Actually, the onions were the best part of this meal. Overcooked meat, piled high, nearly as chewy as beef jerky, cheese fresh out of its plastic wrap, slapped on and not melted, sliced tomato ends (aww.. come on CH's), mounds of lettuce shards, medium soft bun and lots of those silken, sauteed onions. I remember driving up to Philadelphia years ago in the middle of the night with some friends, just to get some Philly cheese steaks from Pat's and Geno's. Back then, I thought they were the best cheese steaks I had ever had. That initial late night excursion would be repeated numerous times over the next 10 or so years even after I discovered other, better cheese steak establishments in Philly. The cheese steaks may not have been the best, but Pat's and Geno's offered something that the other places did not: the ability to consume massive amounts of calories and fat at 3 in the morning. Nothing hits the spot like a greasy, gooey, cheese steak especially late at night. There are few places in Baltimore that offer this kind of unique dining experience. Captain Harvey's is the preeminent late night snack attack destination. At any other time of day, the subs are good... but somehow they go from good to great as soon as the clock hits midnight. Must be some kind of reverse Cinderella thing. What is normally far too much for the average human to even consider consuming becomes the object of every man's gluttonous, late night fantasy. To say that these subs are huge would be an understatement almost as big as the subs themselves. This place is at the top of my late night eating preferences. At night, this place is easily 4 stars. Who is writing these reviews? The owners??? Captain Harveys is living off it's reputation of years gone by. The current version of CH is disgraceful. They are obviously "quantity over quality" They serve up the lowest quality meat imaginable...but hey, you get 3X an average sub so all the fatties are happy. The fountain sodas are always ALWAYS flat and half out of order. The fries are cooked, then re-dipped in the grease when you order them, making a soggy mess. Why do I go back? Because I remember how good they used to be in Logan...lines out the door every night. That image is still burned in my brain, and every time I go, I'm just more disappointed. Yea, these are great subs. But if your in the mood for the best and your already in dundalk then call Pizza John's in Essex and your sub will be ready when you get there. This place is going down hill. I walked in and ordered a ham and cheese sub (easy sandwich). Nothing weird just ham and cheese sub. I was charged $8.86 for a vitamin water and a ham and cheese sub. This is what she gave me. A ham egg and cheese sub with lettuce and tomatoes and raw onions toasted. I dont know who ordered this sandwich because i was the only person there and the phone didnt ring. The person i ordered from i guess has a problem taking orders cause in no way did i order this. But any ways the sub was terible the ham tasted as if it was boiled in water and the eggs were way over cooked. Ive had many subs from here and have not been happy with none. Went to Captain Harvey's on 11-14-15 for a steak and cheese sub. Bought 2 then went back to mother-laws to eat. Took one bite and mixed in with the meat was cardboard!!! YES, I said cardboard!!!! Took both subs back and met with the owner. She told us it was not her fault. Then she showed us how the meat comes packaged to her, and tells us again it was not their fault.
