Right off I would go to Jerry's because they are local. Plus, they will match any price, so as long as I make my phone calls I know I am getting the best deal. I've been doing several projects this summer and Jerry's beat both the other larger chains in prices when I compared. The lumber selection is good. I do realize the quality of wood has gone down (way down) in the years. #2's and better should really be graded utility. Not Jerry's fault though. As a hardware store, Jerry's is fine. But, what a HORRIBLE website. I can't look up parts, pre-order items before I walk into the store, or even know how much items cost so I can plan a budget for a project. You would think a store this size would invest in a website that would make it much more convenient for their customers. read more

I came in to have lock re-keyed and was told that employee was on break. so I left the keys and lock at the store to run other errands I get back 40 minutes later and I still have to stand here and wait for my lock to be re-keyed. Some time back he had our kitchen remodeled through Jerrys' Was not pleased with the results and in some cases shoddy workmanship of the contractors they supplied. The electrical work was not great but not horrible either. The areas where the previous cabinet had been were drywalled but clearly not a finished product. With some paint and touch up was made acceptable. But what really upset me was we are in the process of having hardwood floors installed and when we had the carpets pulled up we found where Jerry's contractor had chiseled away some subfloor to get the cabinets level. An area about 16" long and two inches wide. It was obvious there was an issue with a rise in the floor next to the wall. Rather than inform us of a flooring issue so it could be repaired they torn up the subfloor to get the cabinets in and then covered up what they had done with the carpeting. Now of course this flooring issue was a major hang up with the hardwood install. Cannot be install until floor fixed. We went to Jerry's to talk to them about what the contractor had done and got the well it's not our responsibility. When we asked about the contractor hack job they told us sorry, he is retired, we aren't responsible for his work. Your problem. But they did make an offer of a small discount on materials to fix the floor. Thanks a lot Jerry's, guess who will not have you doing work for me. read more

So, the manager just kicked my boyfriend and I out of the store because she didn't like the fact that we put items back where they didnt belong. Saying it was not normal behavior. I'm sorry, I'm an impulse buyer. The closer I get to the register the more I realize I dont need half the stuff I've grabbed. Long story short she proceeded to say that her employees were not following us around the store that it was completely normal for them to ask as if we needed help which is not true because they were constantly following us around the store no matter where we were passing up other customers to ask if we needed help not normal behavior and she didn't like me saying that so she took my cart full of almost a $100 Worth of stuff stating that obviously we weren't the type of people that belonged in that store shopping because of the way we shopped discrimination yeah I think a little bit maybe because of my pink hair I don't know but pretty pretty pretty whack read more

I have been using Jerry's for many years and don't plan to stop any time soon. The staff is always very knowledgeable and can be found on almost every aisles. The staff is also not too intrusive (they seem to be very aware of the difference between browsing for what you want and trying to find something). I find their prices to be about equivalent to that of Home Depot with a balance of some items cheaper and some items more expensive. Jerry's has also been great with returned items (even a couple times when I lost the receipt). And finally, like other yelpers have pointed out, Jerry's is a locally owned business, always a plus. read more

We were greeted by the sweetest gentleman when we walked in, had two separate people help us find different items, and we were thrilled with the variety of products! Home Depot moments over and over again, latest experience was making a purchase and them having to have it delivered to lumber sales for me to pick up. After returning to jerrys due to running home to get my truck, I found that they had brought up the old, dirty, scratched up floor model that had been out for who knows how long. Then after playing phone tag between numerous people on their little radios I finally spoke to someone who basically informed me they were too busy to get it off the shelf for me and it would probably be the next day and they would call me. I don't have much confidence in that since I am still waiting for a call back from another floor employee from about six months ago. Jerrys just isn't the place it used to be. In terms of inventory, Jerry's is comparable to Lowe's and Home Depot. Jerry's does, however, seem to carry a better selection of items rated highly by Consumer Reports and internet customer reviewers. It's as if Jerry's buyers are seeking out quality, not just bargain prices. Still, it is not inventory that separates Jerry's from it's big box peers. It's customer service. Seldom have I had to track down staff; sometimes, finding someone at Lowe's is like Flamingo hunting. The Associates at Jerry's are generally very knowledgeable; they will find someone who is if they are stumped. At Home Depot, half the Associates must have received their training at Trump University. Jerry's main deficiency is it's terrible website which provides little information on stock and no option to order on-line. It will, however, price-match anything that you find on-line; just print the webpage (including price w/shipping) and show it to an Associate. read more

Jerry's has a wide selection of items in all departments that fill a variety of customer needs. And, Jerry's prices are more than fair for the quality of items on hand. Their outstanding feature is customer service. Store employees are helpful, informed and friendly. It's encouraging to know that you can walk into the store with little experience or knowledge about what's needed for a project, but you'll get enough help from staff to figure it all out. I just disconnected the phone after talking to someone in Jerry's garden section, who had spent a fair amount of time trying to determine the best plant food for my palm trees. We went to Jerry's on their big anniversary celebration. They advertised 2X4's for .50 each. Wanted to pick up a few for a project and was told by a Jerry's employee that some contractor had bought all of them at all three stores. He did say they would have more in a few days and we needed to come back. I understand completely that they may run out of an item on promotion, but since Jerry's sold these 2X4's to a contractor in bulk (I mean seriously they sold him every one they had at all three stores!), I don't feel they consider the everyday shopper "important". read more

I like supporting locally owned businesses and, up until recently, have always shopped at Jerry's because of their friendly, helpful service. During my last few visits I have received very poor and down right grumpy service. I went in yesterday ready to purchase vinyl flooring. After waiting 15 minutes for help, I approached a woman at the desk who was flipping through a catalog. When I said, "excuse me" she looked up and said, "I'm with another customer." There were no other customers in sight. I found another woman near the carpet samples, her response, "I'm busy, I'll find someone to help you." She called someone on her radio who clearly said that they were on break. She turned to me and said, "you'll just have to wait." I told them both to never mind that I was going to Home Depot, and that is what I did. Got help right away, bought my flooring. I'm not inclined to go back to Jerry's. read more
