My father has been shopping at Jerry's for decades and has always preferred them over Home Depot or Lowes. He has been in the trades for years and when he retired he got a chance to work there greeting people at the door and helping customers find things they needed. He was so excited to work there (as were we) he would go about 30 minutes early and walk around the store so he knew where everything was and I think he loved the socialization and being around everyone. After a good few months my husband told me my dad confided in him that he had been fired from Jerry's because he had spending a little too long getting back to his post. My father was diagnosed with early onset dementia so finding his bearings took a longer than usual. I gave them a 1 star because I think this family owned stored lost the importance of family and community. read more

First, I would like to start by saying I like to shop locally, and when I do shop, I look for local Oregon businesses. I do like shopping at Jerry's Home Improvement for those reasons. But the one thing I find that is unsettling for me are the Jerry's TV commercials. These TV commercials portray the homeowner/DIYer's as idiots. Always in need of Jerry's help. Well, first to own a home in this economy shows how some hardworking individuals really are. And the pride homeowners take in DIY projects. Most of us don't need a salesman's help to hold our hands as we put together a major or minor home improvement. When I shop at the other box stores I feel as if they are there to help. I understand inventory shortages and not having the products I was after. I somewhat understand the products you were out of and looked for for 20 minutes because your inventory said you did have them. I do not understand buying a Dewall product from you and you sending me to another place to have it warrantied. And I completely do not understand a 20 minute line to check out while 6 plus Jerry's employees can sit around the front watching 2 checkers work. Didn't always use to be like that. This is the best big hardware store in Eugene! I was so used to the idiots at Home Depots and Lows and WOW!, what a difference Jerry's is! They actually know what they are talking about. I have gone in there with a picture of something broken and they have walked me though how to fix it. My water heater broke and they helped me understand how it works and what I could do to fix it. They are amazing. They match prices from anywhere. They will even match sale prices! The customer service is impeccable. read more

I used to love Jerry's, until today. I'm disappointed that the management at Jerry's allows the practice of jacking up prices on items to outrageous amounts and then puts them on a sale table, basically getting more than the item was worth in the first place. Today, Christmas items were on "sale" at Jerry's for 75% off! Sounds good, right? I picked up a set of three simple tin nested baskets, the largest one about 9", painted red. Cute. I would have thought $15 for the set at the MOST. Jerry's price? $56.99! Seriously. So, you end up paying $14. Why not mark it at a fair price (that and all the other junk on that table) and put it on sale at 10%. It seems like Jerry's is playing the customer for a fool. Three stars because in a pinch, it's nice to have Jerry's on the block. But please, quit with the games. read more

I heart Jerry's. By now, if you'd read any of my reviews you'd realized how I love many places. It's true I do. I really do love Eugene for everything that it has, Jerry's Included. 1: It's locally owned. 2: ANY advertised price is Jerry's price! 3: Customer Service is by far the very best. 4: They have workshop and Demo's for household DIY projects. 5: They dont treat me like a stupid little girl that wants to figure out how to do a mans job. Even if the staff wasn't as helpful and knowledgable, I'd support Jerry's as it's a local business. Other Home Stores(tm) come with such low expectations from me, including assuring me they have the part I need over the phone, and when I get there, nada. As stated in other reviews, the knowledge of the staff can be hit-or-miss. They have many bona-fide experts in their department, but I also think they have some people that don't know what they're talking about to fill in the gaps. My family and I visited this store and was quite impressed with how BIG it is. However, when we were looking at products in the Home Improvement Isle, 2 female Associates were apparently getting something down from high above the shelves using the "tall picker Mechanical Forklift". Without saying ANYTHING to get our attention and WITHOUT ANY WARNING, the female Associate on the picker, started the equipment and started going up. Needless to say we were startled by the noise of the equipment and hurried to move out of the way, as we were within a few feet of this equipment. The second female Associate was standing in front of the steps of the equipment, so if she was the spotter, neither she, or the Associate on the picker, were concerned with ensuring that the area was cleared or safe for the equipment to be operated. It was apparent we were startled as we expressed SHOCK when the machine started. We left the area without the Associates acknowledging anything. I hope they get better TRAINING when operating machinery in areas where Customers are present, as this will ensure EVERYONE stays SAFE, including them. Also, when I asked the Associate for a Manager to report the unsafe situation, she simply responded with attitude "Have a good Day".YIKES!!!! So, If not for the unconcerned response by these few Associates in regards to this Safety incident, I would have given more stars as everyone else was Excellent. read more

i have been loyal jerry's customer for over 30 years, even worked there for 2 years in late 80's, but am done for good as of today. biggest complaint is just can't get any help there for projects i am unsure of. wait for help is long and you need to be very aggressive to get somebody's attention. had simple questions about primer and caulk but nobody could help...some staff did the walk real fast, look away, head bob to avoid me...uggghhh. last time, after long wait, had simple electrical question and they said they didn't have anything to fix it and didn't know anyplace in town that did...took to batteries plus, guy fixed it for free in 10 minutes. prices are average and website is basically a joke. i knew jerry...he wouldn't be happy. read more

So they wont let you without a mask but offer curbside without any means to shop. I am not sending someone in to make choices without knowing what they have in stock. I cant wear anything over my face even if its clear because of severe claustrophobia, but i am not offered special shopping times just tell us and give us you card so we can charge you. I am not sending my card or money in with someone I don't know. I've been shopping at Jerry's since they opened the doors about 20 years ago and shopped the previous store/location and my father in law shopped the original store in the 60's. Most of the time it's one stop shopping for me but occasionally out of stock but nothing like other home improvement stores. I feel sorry for all people in other towns that only have home depot as a choice. this place often sets the standard for customer service for all retail stores in our area. Thumbs up most of the time. Tip, if you want something installed like cabinets, sink, faucets, toilets... do not go through the store. I was a fan of Jerry's until their anniversary sale, that I just got back from tonight. Their online and flyer sales posted some very bogus sales for the week; however many of the items were gone, and sold out on Monday- the 1st day of the sale. Some employees apologized and actually told me how that the store only had a pallet or less of some of their most advertised items- the ones that were the best deals. Other employees just spout "the sales were just until supplies last." However, there was nothing in the ads stating that supplies were limited and by leaving this out the store legally advertised that the items advertised would be available for the duration of the sale- or a rain check would be offered. Rain checks are a way to avoid lawsuits. As it is Jerry's intentionally committed false advertising- the type commonly called Bait & Switch- customers are lured to the store by fake ads for sales, that do not exist. The store makes bank by lying to customers to get them to their store. This is illegal under Oregon law, and most everywhere which is why you rarely come across fake sales. I live in the country and drove over an hour there and an hour back, and none of the items I wanted where there- again some employees told me that the sales were BS, while others quoted "the while supplies last" excuse. When I got back I did find the legalese in the ad staying "Items Limited to Stock On Hand" of course this was in small print and hard to find, so the ad is legal. It is just a really $#:][Y way to treat customers. If the ad were honest and read many of these Front Page sales items will be gone by Monday afternoon or at the.latest Monday evening them customers would not be LURED in over the course of the week for Jerry's Bait & Switch scams. Again more than a few employees volunteered telling me how very little of the sale items the store had to start with and how these items disappeared instantly, and how they were asked all week for help in finding the sales items that were of sold out. This trick is insulting to the customers and a waste of time & gas- really a very bad business tactic. Reminds me of the old saying: "Fool me once... F U!!!"- I ain't falling 4 Jerry's BS FAKE SALES!!! read more

We are SO disappointed. We have been Jerry's customers for decades. Our son worked for them while in college. We have recommended them over Home Depot or Lowe's to literally dozens of people. My husband is a veteran, so gets a discount on non-sale items. But we also had a Boy Scout coupon for $5 off a $50 purchase. There is NOTHING on the coupon that limits it's use. The checker would not honor the coupon, even though we bought over $125 worth of items. Plus, the person with whom she verified that they would not honor the coupon, was not very nice about it. If the coupon had had ANY disclaimer limiting its use, well, fine. But that was not the case, and I am seriously annoyed. read more

We don't come here as often as I'd like because we live in Roseburg but it's always such a positive experience. When you walk in, the friendly greeter ALWAYS knows EXACTLY where everything is. The best you can hope for at the box stores at home is a vague 'maybe aisle 3 or aisle 25' and that's IF you can find someone to ask. At Jerry's you always find friendly, helpful and knowledgeable people who are willing to help. We tried to buy a hot water heater a couple weeks ago in Roseburg but couldn't get anyone to help us load it. We'd even stopped at Customer Service and asked them to send someone down to help but finally just gave up and left. At Jerry's there was a guy rIght there who answered all our questions and knew what he was talking about. We'll be back in a couple weeks to buy it along with all the assorted parts to do the job right. We've NEVER had a negative experience here either in person or on the phone. I love Jerry's! I admittedly spend way too much time, and probably too much money (according to my wife), wandering their fully stocked aisles. Their regular prices are competitive, sometimes a little on the high side, but their sales/promos are amazing! And they aren't limited to specific brands, like your typical "big box" home improvement stores. For example - they carry stabila levels. They have other brands, common brands (Stanley, craftsman, etc) that you'd expect to find in a home improvement store, but I've only ever seen stabila levels in specialty tool stores. That's just one example, the customer service there, in my experience, is great. Unlike other home improvement stores, there are Jerry's employees everywhere! While I don't rely on retail employees for trade specific advice, they are very helpful in locating the products in their store & they are friendly. As long as I live in Eugene, I will shop at Jerry's. read more

I went to Jerry's with rotten pieces of a broken Adirondack chair that I hoped to repair. I have virtually no experience with wood working. A store associate, Aldo, approached me immediately offering assistance. He spent a lot of time answering my questions and finding the materials I needed. He was so helpful and friendly. I have not had very good experiences at other big box hardware stores. The store associates at these other stores appear to be avoiding eye contact instead of seeking out customers to offer help. Hats off to Jerry's (and Aldo) for being such a customer friendly store. read more

My issue with Jerry's is that they have no usable website and things you think they would have, they don't. There's no way to no what they have in stock unless you call. Even then who knows how accurate it is based on who answers. It's harder to find help in the store sometimes too. Sure, there's usually someone at the door, but once you're in the store it is harder to find help. Until they get a site I can use, I mainly stick to Home Depot. read more

I would like to be going to Jerry's today to buy a bunch of stuff for a van build. I'm headed over to Home Depot however, because Jerry's is in the dark ages regarding the internet. I have tried unsuccessfully to find out their merchandise inventory and prices for forward shopping to make a decision where and what to shop. Unfortunately, other than weekly ads, there is none. Sure they have better service, but this is the computer age where Amazon rules. Time for Jerry's to get their act together and offer us consumers the same information available at Home Depot, ahead of our visit...or any other hardware store for that matter. Jerry's makes a big deal about their price match guarantee. Their web site even says, "We will match anyone's price on anything we sell, anytime." THIS IS A LIE. I got a price on about 400 fluorescent bulbs from an online merchant. Not the price on the web site, since I was buying so many. I went to Jerry's and they refused to match it. They didn't argue that it wasn't a bona fide price, but told me that "anyone's price" actually means "anyone's price that Jerry's can find on the internet." That's quite a difference. No problem if that's their policy, but if they say that they match anyone's price, they need to actually do it. I'm totally in favor of supporting local businesses. That's why I went to Jerry's for the bulbs. But I'm not in favor of supporting local businesses that are dishonest about their practices. read more

Strike One: Ordered a safe back in August and paid in full. Jerry's told me they would place the order from the manufacturer and call me in 3 weeks or so once it arrived. Fast forward to the middle of October. I called to check on the status of the safe and was told: "Oh yeah, we've had the safe in for a while now". Slightly annoyed, I borrowed a pickup truck and made my way to their store. They brought me the dusty, damaged, floor model safe with duct tape residue and missing internal shelving. I refused delivery and asked to speak to a manager. She told me that she was sorry for the mix-up, would investigate, and get back to me in a day. I received a call back and was told that the safe was no longer available from the manufacturer so I could either get a refund, or wait "Until the holidays" when they "might" get some more safes in stock. Considering they had held on to my $600 for a month, I opted for the refund. Strike Two: Around the same time, we ordered a piece of cabinetry from a different department. I paid in full and was told the piece would be in around the first of October. After radio silence, I called on October 10th and was informed that they "Forgot to order it", but would place the order as soon as possible and call me the second it arrived. Strike Three: After being promised a call back when the piece of cabinetry arrived, I thought it would be wise to give them a ring considering it was the first week of November with no word. It turns out the piece of cabinetry has been in "For a few days" and low and behold, I never received a call. I'm headed to Jerry's right now to pick up my order. I'm REALLY hoping I'm not going to be receiving the right item. You're out: I used to be a huge fan of Jerry's. Who wants to shop at a big box home improvement store when you have a local alternative? Unfortunately they've lost a long time customer with these experiences. Horrible communication, conflicting information, incorrect products, and a sloppy ordering process. I'd recommend staying FAR away from Jerry's if you're ordering cabinetry, granite, a safe, or anything else that Jerry's doesn't have in stock at the moment. If you DO shop with them, be sure to get delivery dates in writing and call frequently to ensure that they've indeed placed the order, it's the right product, and it hasn't been delivered and is sitting in a corner somewhere. read more

I guess if you were only comparing Jerry's to Home Depot and Lowes you might rate it higher. Among big box stores, Jerry's has some advantages. I do like that it is locally owned, and the lumber yard is very efficient. I have a hard time describing the help there as knowledgeable and friendly, at least in comparison with what you can find elsewhere in Eugene. I have found the service at Jerry's hit or miss, and really not consistently better than Home Depot or Lowe's. I have been there several times and never once received help, mostly because everyone there was more concerned with stocking shelves than helping people. Right off I would go to Jerry's because they are local. Plus, they will match any price, so as long as I make my phone calls I know I am getting the best deal. I've been doing several projects this summer and Jerry's beat both the other larger chains in prices when I compared. The lumber selection is good. I do realize the quality of wood has gone down (way down) in the years. #2's and better should really be graded utility. Not Jerry's fault though.
