Chicken fried steak
Michelle L.

Took advantage of the St. Patrick day menu. We got the shepherds pie which reminded me a lot of the one served at Cheesecake Factory. The corned beef and cabbage was tasty but we wished there were a few more slices of beef and a little more of the braising liquid. The chicken fried steak was nicely breaded and crunchy. The pepper steak was a great recommendation from our server who was super friendly and attentive.

As long as I have lived in Anchorage, moved away and came back numerous times I have never eaten here and this was the first time and I regret never having food here! Well I made it this time and was not disappointed at all! Ordered the by now almost world famous pepper beef steak and it was so good!!

The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was amazing and they were playing jazz music. It was a great atmosphere. I would recommend if you want a wonderful experience. This is the place to go to

2 types of bread - rosemary and spelt - fluffy, moist, chewy.... Mmmm.

This restaurant is fantastic! If you're in Anchorage and looking for family-owned high-quality dining, add this place to your list! The ambiance is quaint and has a romantic, cozy European/Danish flare. Our server was warm and friendly. He gave us several pointed recommendations to guide our beer and food selection. Excellent selection of wine and local beers. The complementary fresh bread was warm, and moist with a nice light crust. The food was all delicious and perfectly cooked. The big "happy taste pallet" award goes to the Grilled Salmon, SR IPA, & carrot cake! We would definitely and eagerly return to this culinary gem the next time we're in Anchorage!

Antipasto

We were recommended this place by a few locals and were absolutely blown away by the incredible food, staff, and overall environment. Upon entering you are greeted with helpful workers that made the whole experience exceptional. We ordered an antipasto that was delicious and so fresh. My rack of lamb was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Overall, it was a 20/10 experience. Definitely a must visit in anchorage.

Fresh oysters - the best in town! The accompanying sauces will win over any skeptic!

Jens is my new favorite place for fancy food, and I love that I do not have to go downtown to enjoy myself. With a superb selection of wines, professional and friendly staff, and incredibly fresh seafood that is never frozen, I've always enjoyed the best Alaska offers here. Perfect for date night or a quick oyster/champagne happy hour!

Very good service, even better food. The halibut special was perfect, as was the steak. We'll be back soon. Don't miss out on the best Caesar dressing in Anchorage.

Gravad Laks Med Seneps Sovs

Beautiful intimate space that has a lot of love. You can tell from the decor and the people who work there. And yay for booths! The gravad laks was cured perfectly by dill and the accompaniments were perfect. The gorgonzola cream on the ravioli was heavenly. Yes we sipped up every drop with the complimentary bread. The special soup and entree of the nights were pretty good. Soup a bit too tomato-y? But that is just my preference. I should have asked what kind of soup. The bison short rib needed something to cut the richness of the sauce. Great for small and large celebrations. A special gem for the area and well loved, when you see solo diners at the bar in scrubs you know it's a local favorite.

Danish Classics

Delicious restaurant in Anchorage. They served Danish food along with high end local dishes. I had the first salmon of the season from Cooper River over a bed of greens including fiddlehead ferns. It was spectacular. I have dreams about this dish. For dessert I had a Danish Red Pudding, which brought back memories of my mormor's cooking in Denmark. I loved this place. I cannot say enough good things. The staff was excellent. Amazing beer and wine selection. Delicious food. Unique menu prepared to perfection. Nice, inviting, clean decor and interior. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area.

Silver salmon was AMAZING!! Kudos to the Chef

It turned out to be delicious; the pesto-style sauce added great flavor, and the tater tots on the side were really good. Started with a cocktail, I got their rhubarbra Streisand, it was delicious except you needed to crush the ice to get that strawberry flavor out and use a spoon because the straw is a paper straw and disintegrate fast. For apps, we did the bacon burnt ends, which was really tasty. It was a lot too, so definitely shareable. For my entree I got their jambalaya. And omg, the portion can feed 3-4 people. It was a lot. It's like they are preparing you for the winter months to hibernate. It came with shrimp, salmon, and reindeer sausage. It was good, except felt like the reindeer sausage had a gamey taste that I was not fond of. Didn't like it in a seafood dish, bc I tried it as a hot dog and in a burrito and liked it. So maybe for me, just didn't like the mix of reindeer sausage with seafood. My friend got their grilled halibut. Came with a mountain of orzo, it was good too but very heavy on the carbs. We didn't finish and took it back to the hotel. Huge portions! Good food and drinks. Come hungry and leave 5lbs heavier.

I had been warned not to expect much from the culinary scene in Anchorage. Apparently those folks…read more(locals) have not yet been to Crush. Run, do not walk, to Crush! It was an exquisite experience from start to end. Bae who was our server was attentive, knowledgeable, warm, the consummate professional. The setting was beautiful with gorgeous photos (for sale) of wildlife including many adorable bears in the wild. The food was so delicious, I'm still thinking about it. Our party of 7 ordered a variety of items so I fortunately had a taste of a lot of different dishes: I don't usually drink but saw ice wine on the menu so had a delicious glass of the Kiona - 5/5 Appetizers - bread board - 5/5, focaccia sliced and generous servings of two spreads (maybe white bean hummus? something else?), roasted garlic in olive oil, red and green grapes, assorted nuts. this really raised the bar on what a bread board should be! - roasted rainbow harissa carrots - 5/5, a generous pile of roasted carrots of many colors, on a generous bed of spicy labneh (and I don't even like carrots that much) - crispy polenta - 5/5, a sizeable rectangular portion of crispy polenta topped with oven dried tomato, goat cheese, sherried cream sauce, with generous sides of sauteed mushrooms, sauteed spinach. This was an incredible dish and can see why they offer it with chicken because that would make for a tasty entree Entrees - grilled shrimp green curry with udon noodles (special) - 5/5, this was such an outstanding dish. Five generous grilled shrimp on skewers on top of the large bowl of udon noodles and bok choy. Super yum. Everyone else enjoyed their dishes, including the pan roasted halibut, the miso glazed cod, one of the salads (the large is VERY large). Dessert - crème brûlée with berries, candied walnuts, thyme - 4/5 solid offering - mascarpone cheesecake with sliced strawberries and blueberries - 5*/5 I'm not usually a cheesecake fan but this was so light and fluffy it was delicious and I love that the berries were not just a garnish but more generous portions - baked alaska - chocolate cake, gelato, chocolate ganache, meringue - 3/5, this was the only disappointing item of the evening. If you're in Alaska and baked alaska is on the menu, it should be the classic baked alaska and if the menu says it has meringue, it shouldn't be marshmallow fluff instead. 'nuff said. My compliments to the chef - Crush really transported us to another place with the quality and presentation of the food. I'd go back again and again!

I do travel a lot and try to eat at some nice places. This one I would recommend to everyone and make a reservation if you want to enjoy. Unfortunately, for the price point and reputation, the experience was incredibly disappointing. We had a 9 p.m. reservation, and the restaurant was very quiet by then--maybe three occupied tables. Since we were sharing everything, we told our server to bring dishes out whenever they were ready. About 20 minutes later, the lobster bisque arrived lukewarm, followed by our wine. The soup itself was delicious, so we shrugged it off. Things happen. Unfortunately, it continued from there. Our entrées didn't arrive for another 40 mins or so. The tuna collar was also lukewarm and overwhelmingly salty, as was the salad served with it, so nothing to balance it. The Wagyu ribeye--the $138 centerpiece of our meal--was not medium rare as ordered and was so heavily salted that neither of us could enjoy it. My partner managed about a quarter of it, and I had a few bites before we finally gave up. We respectfully explained our disappointment to our server. She was courteous and offered to bring us something else, which we appreciated, but after waiting nearly an hour for our entrées, it was closer to 11pm and we simply didn't want to start the process over again. What surprised us most was that there really wasn't any response beyond the offer to order something different. No manager came by, no acknowledgment was made regarding the largely uneaten $138 steak, and there seemed to be little concern that multiple dishes had arrived lukewarm and excessively salted. Having spent 15 years working in customer service at various levels of dining, I completely understand that kitchens have off nights and mistakes happen. I also know it's uncomfortable for guests to speak up--we certainly weren't looking for a free meal. But at this price point, when a guest respectfully tells you that multiple dishes were problematic and leaves most of an expensive entrée uneaten, I would expect some acknowledgment or effort to make the experience right. We went into the evening excited to spend the money and enjoy a special meal together. Unfortunately, the food, timing, and response to our concerns simply didn't match the level of dining or price point we expected from Altura.
