Things got off to a rocky start with Jenkins as things were a bit chaotic in the aftermath of the incredible July 8 rainstorms in Washington DC. One of the managers, Lee, became aware of the situation and personally intervened taking over the on-site supervision and execution of the project. I tried hard to like these guys. Find someone else, not the best communication. They will send 4 guys and two trucks out to your house just to take measurements of an area under 500sq ft.. As a woman who is alone with with her baby during the day, I need to know how many men you are bringing along with you into my house prior to you showing up. After some hail damage, USAA recommended Jenkins Restoration. I went with them since they were recommended. They are non-responsive; customer service does not exist and I had to keep calling them because they don't follow up. After multiple phone calls, I received an email that states "... just wanted to let you know I think it's best we pass on the opportunity as I do not think we will need able to meet the expectations expected." All I wanted was some customer service and responsiveness. I'm hiring another company; however, I would not recommend them for work. Jenkins Restorations was referred to me by Erie Insurance, after a tree fell on my house. Initially everything seemed great - the contact showed up, explained details to me, and was really thorough about recommending that we get additional inspections done to make sure that it wasn't just the chimney, but also additional structures weren't damaged. And then they just stopped responding. Weeks went by, half a dozen unreturned calls during that time. After contacting their office, they responded for a few days then went back to not responding. At this point it's been months since the damage happened, and we haven't even started repair. Save your effort and time, do not use this company. read more

Had a relatively small problem where a pipe burst in the guest bathroom and unfortunately JENKINS couldn't cope. A month ago they sent some nice youngsters out with a large drying device and they sealed up the small guest bathroom with plastic and tape and left the machine to do its thing. A day later we got concerned about the amount of heat coming through the door. We tore down the plastic sheeting and the 120+ degrees we measured melted some of the plastic items in the bathroom. A supervisor later came out to do an estimate and he confirmed that the inappropriate heater had been used. We never got an estimate but instead have received 10+ emails asking us to docu-sign that they have completed the work. (We still have the heater which they've apparently abandoned) IF your insurance company suggests JENKINS I highly recommend that you move on and get someone who has their act together. read more

Scratches all over on wood floors that is hardly a year old - gaps between hard wood floor pieces * Unprofessional workers - Disposed off construction and demolition trash in household trash and recycling bins - Did not clean up the above after repeated requests and I had a hard time cleaning it up - Food trash(Chicken bones, drinks cups, sandwich wraps) all over the yard and just thrown into the household trash and recycling bins If it happened to me, I'm sure it happened to others. Hard to believe how these clowns are still in business and how and where they get five star reviews on here. I have followed up with Jenkins multiple times about all of the above over the past one year or so right after work completed in October 2022. The excuse is that they are not able to find workers to come back and fix the issues. About the bad quality of wood floor the reason is that I did not request them to use good quality of flooring(??!!). About the sub floor damage - yeah, it happens. Here's my story on this: Mold and water damage from a water leak when we were out of the house for an extended period last summer(2022). Made one of the worst decisions of my life - to engage Jenkins to remediate and reconstruct. My insurance did not cover mold(check your policies, folks!) so only a part of the cost was covered by insurance. Jenkins did the mold remediation. Water got under the tiled floor of the kitchen and drained to the basement. Almost the entire kitchen had to be wrecked to get to the water and mold damage. The remediation was completed quickly. The restore part took forever. I literally had to throw Jenkins out of the house in October 2022 after almost 4 months of work restoring/reconstructing the kitchen. At the end a few issues remained which I followed up several times with no result and here I am. read more

The thermostat that Jenkins installed during restoration work pursuant to a fire, stopped working. There was an HVAC contractor listed on the thermostat which I thought was there for a reason. So I called but at the same time emailed Jenkins. The contractor on the thermostat said he never worked on my home and that the thermostat was stolen. Jenkins meanwhile told me to check the batteries. It doesn't operate on batteries. I called an HVAC contractor, and turns out, this contractor was called to our home during the restoration to inspect and approve work done in the house. This appears to be Jenkins' work around for not using an actual HVAC contractor to perform work in my home. I asked for reimbursement and they said since they didn't check work first, warranty was void. And he reminded me he's told me a million times - which gives you an idea of the problems I encountered with their work. Fair enough; I submit protections under the contract they assert are void when they used stolen or not first-hand matierals. When I told Jenkins I am posting this experience, their representative threatened me lawyers. I asked for the name of their lawyers. He still hasn't responded. Unprofessional work. Subcontracted out. The people who were subcontracted out brought their children into my home who were running around dancing. Laid a floating floor onto concrete without putting a pad down so the whole floor moved. Couldn't even line new flooring up flush with existing flooring. I honestly could have done better myself. Very bad experience. For some unknown reason our insurance company recommended this company. It started out ok. Claims Estimator Miguel Torres came out to our house to review water damage from a leaking dishwasher valve. The removal work and mitigation work had already been done, so we were just looking for the restoration estimate. Mr. Torres was very professional and took us through the process. Great we thought, we have our company. After waiting for sometime without our estimate we contacted Mr. Torres who let us know that he had been tasked to work on some higher profile clients and would not be able to get to our estimate for at least a month. Not great, but we let him know that we could wait the month. A month goes by and not a word. A month and a half goes by...not a word from Mr. Torres. We tried calling, left multiple messages with no call back or acknowledgement that we had contacted him. Finally we called our insurance company who was finally able to get through to him. To them he admitted he had received our phone calls and was ignoring them because they would not be able to do our job after all. Rather than just let us know so we could at least move on, Mr. Torres decided it was better to go the discourteous route and just ignore us. So we waited nearly two months for an estimate Mr. Torres promised, but never intended to deliver. Unprofessional to the highest degree. My recommendation after this experience, plus reading the other reviews here, would be to stay away from this company. Our house flooded while we were away. Jenkins were notified and came in to dry the place out, and worked until 11pm that night to install the necessary equipment. Over the next few days they followed up to ensure that everything was going well. They then priced the work to perform the necessary restoration work and it was approved by the insurance company. They were able to start the work a week early, and completed it two weeks ahead of the original schedule. As a referral from USAA for our flooded bathroom, they were OK on the clean up but we are now in the 5th month of what I believe should have been a 2-3 week cleanup/reno. they have no schedule or plan. they do not monitor what is complete or left todo. they show up infrequently and usually unannounced. they sub ALL the work and rarely are on-site. in 5 months the Project Manager has been here 5 times for a total of about 5 hours. communication poor at best. avoid this company if at all possible! read more

My insurance company sent Jenkins Restorations to my home to mitigate water damage. Jenkins then sent us a bill for more than $1,200. All they did was cut a hole in the drywall and attach a dehumidifier. They didn't even patch the hole they made. It was not an emergency and the work was performed during business hours. I used Jenkins in the summer of 2017 and had a terrible experience. Sadly, my home suffered a smoke damage issue again in 2019, from another house fire (different house). I foolishly thought maybe my experience with Jenkins was a one-off" and "better the devil you know". Boy was I wrong. They barely even started this job and I already had to cancel their services. My favorite quote from them was from Reuben the Project Manager who said "I am the Project Manager, I say no a lot, you need to get used to it". I wouldn't hire this company to build a doghouse. They made a horrible experience (we had a house fire) that much worse! Poor communication, poor craftsmanship. A 2 month effort took 5 and at the end of the 5 we had to remove them and bring in another vendor to finish the job. The project manager was rude and inept. They had to redo drywall 3 times and it still wasn't done well. They let my house sit with no air ventilation after a fire during the summer. A 2 month Job turned into a 5 month job because of it. The hot summer months caused mold in my basement which prolonged the agony of dealing with this company. They had to do mold remediation efforts 3 times. The last straw with them was when their workers dry walled over my emergency gas shut off valve to my fireplace. Their work is not safe, nor honest and its definitely not quality. See pics below of just a few examples. I have many many more. The tub not fitting was a pretty epic fail....they never measured it (they ordered it). It stayed in my garage for 2 months until someone decided to install it. Ooops! I had to hire a company to raise the tub bed which created other issues with our shower glass. They also treat your property like a trash can we had drink bottles, coffee spilled on our floor, half eaten sandwiches and PPE face masks left all over our home (during COVID). Seriously, really....go as far away from his company as you can!!!! You would be better hiring at the local 7-11 which is what I think they did anyways. read more

poor communication and minimal work. they came in to our house after our insurance company filed the claim. Gentleman by the name of David came and set up a dehumidifier and 2 fans to remove moisture. After the walls dried, he came back, took his equipment and left. He simply told us "Someone will be back to repair the walls". Well... turns out that's not true. David could have at least told me that my insurance will contact me and let me know when the team for repairs will come. Instead, I have been waiting around, ready to call out sick from work, but for what?! David needs to communicate these steps better. I would not recommend this company. If we ever have to use a mitigation company again in the future, I will ask my insurance company to send someone else. read more

Update: Jenkins did the right thing and made good on my sidewalk by fixing the cracks. I do appreciate them owning up to the damage and making it right. My review below is based on my experience from one of their bad apples in the crew and wish I would have had the experience I had with the masonry team the first go around. I wish their future customers the best and if they learned from this mistake I am sure they will do better by their clients. Did a horrible job onsite for my house fire. Sent in one worker at a time to do all the work for the day, no foreman was present, and they left my house worst off afterwards. They parked a huge dumpster on my SIDEWALK cracking and ripping up the cement.l even though there was 20 ft of driveway to park on. USAA contacted this company to repair our home after a busted pipe. Our general contractor Brandon Powell must think I'm stupid because he continued to send the same crew out to do awful work. We finally complained to usaa and almost everything has been fixed now. A 2 or 3 week job took 8 months because of a lack of oversight. This company took advantage of our kindness and has made us distrust all general contractors. The revised estimate they just submitted contains about $5k of work they did not do. I told them and USAA about it, this company seems to think I'm still stupid and will sign off on a check for work they didn't do. The whole situation probably would have been worse if USAA wasn't footing the bill. They do apologize a lot for being awful but that does not make up for being bad at their job... Please think twice before picking this company! I do want to point out that most of their sub-contractors are very good at their jobs - which is probably the only reason this company is still around. Specifically, Pride VA painting, Amber floors, and Star movers. These 3 sub-contractors did excellent work, and did it right each time. The problem is that you as the homeowner need to schedule almost everything! A general contractor's job is to supervise, which Jenkins failed to do. This company basically takes a huge mark-up for being a rolodex, save yourself the time and stress and contact the sub-contractors directly. read more

This is not my first remodeling experience in my current property. I used this company through my insurance company as I needed to have some repair work done in my bathroom shower. Ed, my main contact, was great in the beginning. Very understanding when I had to do delay the project due to a family emergency. I then went on vacation and there was further delay. Ed said he would get me the contract to review and sign before I left before August 1st and did not. The contract was not executed until August 23rd. They passed me on to Lenny who I had a difficult start with. Despite having one of their staff come over and look at my space, take pictures, he wanted me to draw my own space plan, insert all the materials, and then we meet about it. I have never remodeled a bathroom before. I don't know what sort of tiles, material, etc to pick out. This held up the project immensely. At times I ordered the wrong item and had to eat costs. The work done was mostly well but there are corners where paint was done all the way back, my radiator wasn't turned back on after use. When we were finally ready to start, of course his team was not. There was poor communication throughout the process and I had to ASK when I was able to move back into my house after being out for almost two weeks. I would never of my own volition use them again. Even when the project was over I had to email them multiple asking them for invoices and how to pay them! read more

Overall, I am satisfied with my home restoration by Jenkins. I had major water damage to my home last spring. The damage occurred in April and I was finally back in my home by mid-summer. No problem. I am completely satisfied with the workmanship demonstrated with the installation of new hardwood floors and new tile countertops. They even replace my refrigerator that was damaged during the installation. Though it was inconvenient being out of my home for a month and also basically living upstairs for a couple of weeks, all went well. During this process, all contents from the first floor of my home were boxed and placed in pods, then stored in my driveway. When the house was ready, the boxes were put back in the house. Once I unpacked the boxes, Jenkins conveniently removed the boxes and packing materials. However, one problem is tainting an otherwise positive experience. Although a few small items were broken during these transitions, I was not overly concerned. My reason for the low rating is that three items were never found once I unpacked. Losing your home to a fire is a catastrophic experience.  Jenkins was there when it first happened and Mike stood out from everyone looking to help.  He quickly assured my sister that her windoors and roof would be covers and offered to talk to her insurance company.   He offerered to find her a hotel and had started calling nearby hotels to check availability.  He met the insurance company at the house the next day.  Mike and his team made the process as pain free as possible, and were sensitive to the emotional effect of being displaced.  Whenever there was an issue, Mike's team told us how they were going to fix the situation.  I appreciate their hard work." read more

Jenkins was the company chosen by USAA, our homeowners insurance company. A one week job took three weeks, with major major issues. They did not use painters tape, so we had paint on existing brickwork, wood and concrete flooring, the NEW carpet that Jenkins had just put in (which was done first, so it was actually dirtied by their own crew), and on trim and banisters everywhere. Moreover, even AFTER we complained about this and they cleaned it up, they did it AGAIN! They were completely unable to install trim, as well. They could not cut it to size, could not match ends up properly, and were not able to remotely match trim color to existing trim. When we made them come back to fix closet trim so it would match existing trim in a bedroom, they got the new (darker) stain all over our son's furniture. His wood furniture. We now have to replace or refinish his bed, his dresser, and his desk. They actually used my son's dresser as a work surface to cut and stain trim. It appears as if they wiped away part of the stain so they knew they'd done it. They literally damaged all of my son's remaining furniture in his bedroom. They actually had done the original trim stain so badly that there were blobs and streaks all over. Not to mention hair in the stain - human hair. They used a rag to stain the trim and these hairs were too long for a brush. They actually left human hair on my child's closet and thought it would be okay. We've gone over my son's room with a fine tooth comb, now, and have found massive errors and mistakes. There appears to be food in our son's bedroom carpet. The workers ate in his room, apparently? Who does that? My son has not been able to use his room in almost six weeks. His brand new carpet is filthy and has paint all over. Now there's food there, too? This is absolutely disgusting. I intending to put his room back together for Christmas so he could have it back. Now he won't be in there for a few more weeks. Jenkins wants to send someone out next week, which will derail all of our winter break plans. We planned on day trips and a "staycation" and now I have to cancel plans with everyone and for everything to stay home so that Jenkins can repair and replace carpet, our OWN furniture, and my son's bedroom. Update: Jenkins did come back to fix the cracked grout, but we ultimately decided to go in a different direction for the remainder of our repairs. USAA referred us to Jenkins to restore my kitchen and basement for water damage. While they did a decent job painting the basement, carpeting the basement, and installing tile in the basement bathroom, I have several complaints - They had numerous scheduling issues and did not show up as planned on three separate occasions. - When painting the kitchen, they did not prime, tape anything, or remove items off of my countertops. As a result, they got paint flecks all over my appliances and belongings. - They messed up the grout in the kitchen. It turned out significantly lighter than the sample (probably from adding too much water), and there are multiple sinkholes. - They did not wait a full 24 hours to walk on the grout after installation and moved the refrigerator and stove back in place the same day that they installed the grout. Now after only three weeks, it is starting to crumble and crack. Overall, I found Jenkins to be incredibly disorganized and frustrating to work with. They took a lot of shortcuts and there were numerous miscommunications. I would not use them again. read more

Disclaimer: I did not hire Jenkins but here's a story about my initial interactions with them...this might just factor into your experience with them as well. After performing an estimate for my water damage, these yahoos asked for my insurance estimate further stating that "if a USAA Estimate has already been provided we need to see that estimate before I can submit mine." Wow...in other words, they don't want to leave anything on the table. Pretty shady these people...people must actually oblige them if they actually ask this question. News flash Jenkins, no insurance estimate for you, period. Bid what you bid, have confidence in it or go pack sand. Lousy, ignoramuses...who can't compete with quality or service...just want to take the full insurance proceeds...good luck when business slows... and it eventually will and then people will read reviews like this and your company may as well be the plague. These people are horrible, and I am getting ready to take them to court. Shoddy workmanship on a restoring a home from a house fire. Pictures of bottles of alcohol at worksite. Subcontractors who could not put on a screen door. Roofers who installed shingles that hang over gutters so that the water shoots off the roof and not in the gutter. Cheap doorknobs in house. Lights in bathroom hung upside down. $2500 railing coming apart. I could go on with a lengthy list of incompetence--but I will save that with my filing for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Working with this company has been the mostly horrible experience I have ever experience. Their project manager communication skills and ability to organize and coordinate for work to be completed is lacking and totally unsatisfactory. I have spent monthly and days exercising patience with trying to get the work completed in my home. Project manager, Valeria takes days to return my calls and when she does can never give me a solid answer on the next step or when her team will return to complete the work at my home. The company employees appears to operate off their own timeline vs meeting the needs and request of the customer. I am still living with mold and damage in my home even after informing everyone that I have asthma. I have been waiting since November 2020 for this company to complete the repairs to my home and I still do not have a definitely answer from the company on when they will complete the repairs. Unfortunately, this company was contracted by Terminx insurance company to do the work to my home. I just wish someone would communicate the timeline to me, get the workers back in to complete the work correctly and efficiency and return my household goods undamaged with nothing missing. read more

in the bad rain at the end of sept, water leaked from my roof into the bathroom exhaust fan. USAA, my insurance co., sent Jenkins to do an estimate for the damage to the roof and bathroom ceiling. when Jenkins came out, they didn't have a ladder to get on the roof. we had to have a leak detection service come out to determine the cause of the leak, which they did. after Jenkins received the report, they were to call me to schedule a time to come back out to do another estimate. Jenkins called today and Reuben said he doesn't know what work needs to be repaired and has to talk to USAA again (then do that before calling me!!). i guess if you came out to do the estimate, like you're supposed to, you would know what work needed to be done! who's the expert in repair, Jenkins or USAA???? horrible customer service. read more

I hope this review makes it into the list because these guys deserve it. I don't know what else to say, these guys rock. Especially Brian and Andrew in the Sterling Office. Let me set the stage. Seven years ago I had a water leak because of a busted pipe and my insurance company recommended Jenkins to do the repairs. They made the repairs, drained out my crawl space and provided a subcontractor to install new insulation. A couple of weeks ago I had a home inspector look over my house because I'm going to sell it. He informed me that the insulation had been put in upside down with the craft paper facing down into the crawlspace rather than up as a vapor barrier. Because this was seven years ago, I was sure that I was facing a major cost to have it replaced. However, when I called Jenkins restoration, they immediately sent someone out to look at it and then brought out other insulators to do the job right. No cost to me! I know some people say it should've been done right the first time. And, it should have been. I don't know how it slipped through the cracks the first time, but having a company stand by their work seven years later is amazing. I'm thinking that it's a brand-new crew trying to make sure their company is well respected and that they do the job correctly. I'd say, give these guys a try. read more

I called this place given its high rating here, but I was soon to be disappointed. The estimator showed up properly and was very courteous and had presented everything in a professional way. After they took measurements, I was told I would get an estimate on the repairs. This is where it all goes downhill. The estimate they gave me is very unprofessional. Sure they use the same software, but they really muck with the numbers. I originally trusted the estimate, but I soon realized I was duped. I was ordering custom closets to replace the ones in my bedroom. I didn't have measurements and decided to use the measurements provided in the estimate (I am using the actual wall to wall measurements) as shown in the drawing. When the installer comes in, he was appalled by how poorly they measured. These "professionals" even measured with a laser measurement tool. In one closet alone they were off 6 inches and the other closet they were off by 14 inches. If they were off by over a foot in one measurement, what else were they off by? I decided to test this myself by buying one of the laser measurement tools they used from Home Depot. These devices are accurate to about 1/16 of an inch. A LOT of measurements are off. The ceiling they marked at 10 FEET. I took measurements of the ceiling from 5 different points my home and they all read at 8.5". Some walls were measured 6 to 1.5 Feet longer than they were. All of this goes into how much they are charging you. After being in disbelief, I began checking the rates they were charging. Sure, I understand that General Contractors need to charge additional money as they have more overhead. I needed about 700 Sq. Feet of flooring replaced and they quoted me at 8,000 (with material) dollars to glue down and replace the wood flooring. I called a highly rated flooring place on Yelp and they would be able to do it for around 3,000 (Without material). Jenkins would charge 6.17 x 20% Overhead per Sq. Ft to lay down glue vs the very reputable flooring would apply the flooring glue it for 2.50 per Sq. Ft. The moment you start questioning the numbers and not paying exactly what they want is the moment all communication shuts down. They were initially very responsive, but after I decided I didn't want to pay 20% overhead on construction material and purchase it myself, they stopped responding. The manager that I worked with literally gave no notice that he was leaving on vacation and didn't respond to me for nearly 2 weeks. I had to call Jenkin's subcontractor to figure out what was going on. Even after he arrived back from vacation, he didn't respond for several days even after trying to call or email him several times. I called Jenkin's office and the receptionist said they should be responding within 24 hours. I am getting responses on average 3-4 days later with 1 call and a emails a day from me. I spoke to the manager last week and he said he would send out a revised estimate without the materials included on Monday, but today is Wednesday at 10 PM and he has not said a thing. I am taking my business elsewhere. I strongly do not recommend this company. If you do choose to work with this company, be very vigilant on their measurements and rates. The subcontractor who did the work was great. Fast, honest and professional. That being said, you need to be careful when dealing with any contractor, and Jenkins is no exception. I say this because certain aspects of the job, as originally quoted and listed on the contract, were not performed and the Jenkins representative intended to charge me for the full amount, including the work that was not done, until I called him out on it. He even went as far as to lie to me, saying that he had told the subcontractor to do certain aspects of the contract when my wife witnessed him telling the subcontractor NOT to do it. In the end, they adjusted the final invoice to reflect the work actually done, but only after I said something - if I had said nothing, they would have never volunteered that info. Not to mention, they never came out to inspect the subcontractors work once it was completed. I will be looking elsewhere from now on. read more
