Foster Remodeling's seminar on renovating was informative and showcased a range of completed projects, but we found the before-and-after photos dated in design, finishes, and functionality--far from the premier quality we expected based on online presence. After meeting with a design specialist and waiting 4-6 weeks for a virtual rendering and floorplan, the proposed design felt bare minimum, outdated, and lacked creativity. Worst of all, the quoted estimate was almost triple our stated budget, largely due to high overhead as a design-build firm. While the company offers detailed process overviews, longstanding experience, references at the onset, and a good warranty program, we found the design quality, speed, and pricing disappointing overall. Attend their seminars for educational value, but if you value cutting-edge design, this firm may not be the right fit. read more

Foster did two jobs for us over the past nine years: one an extensive remodeling of a sunroom enclosure, the other a smaller job upgrading our garage interior and turning it into a workshop. We subsequently had them bid on a bathroom renovation about two years ago, but they were grossly overpriced - nearly twice the bid of the contractor we chose. If you have lots of money and don't want to be or can't be involved in the daily management of your project... this might be the company for you. Their general workmanship is good and they are responsive with ongoing jobs. However, they are very expensive - almost a minimum job price - and they are not responsive to warranty questions and issues in the timeframe that follows the completion of a job. They've simply become too expensive for us...even given our past engagement with them. read more

To my misfortune I went against my better judgement, signed Foster's Partner Plan for a kitchen remodel, and paid the retainer's fee. I agree with the other reviews, this company is expensive but I was sucked in by the customer service. A team from Foster came out to my house to further refine the design and details. I wanted a wall removed so a structural engineer, so I thought, needed to see what was between the wall. He carved out a hole in the ceiling to conduct an assessment. A few weeks later I get an email from the design representative with an attachment with a quote from an independent contractor (someone else) for structural services with a price tag of almost $2K that I was expected to pay. I was surprised because this extra cost was never mentioned during any of the previous sessions with the designer. This lack of transparency caused me to question Foster's ability to deliver the project with integrity and without breaking the bank. The bottom line...I felt like a made a costly mistake. At this point a construction agreement had NOT been signed and no materials ordered. According to the signed Partner Plan my retainer's fee is not refundable ($5K+), not even prorated. So my money is gone, I have a hole in my ceiling, and no new kitchen. read more

Doug, the Lead Electrician, assisted with the installation of new electrical wiring, switches and lighting fixtures. Marco and his team arrived exactly at 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, without exception. They were extremely detailed and meticulous in their work, and ensured that the entire project work area was completely cleaned at the end of each day. The remodeling process was seamless from beginning to end. In addition to their superb craftsmanship, we had complete peace of mind knowing all work was performed in an expert manner. Our Project Manager, Lee, visited often and ensured that my wife and I were pleased with every aspect of our project's progression. Following the project's completion, we were visited by David Foster for a final inspection. David carefully reviewed every square inch of the renovation in order to potentially identify any project discrepancies. Based on the outstanding craftmanship of Marco and his crew, David Foster's inspection identified zero discrepancies. Renovating a kitchen and bath as extensively as we did can be an overwhelming prospect. However, the team at Foster Remodeling Solutions made the process as painless as possible. We are 100% pleased with our new kitchen and bath. Foster Remodeling Solutions has earned our highest recommendation. We anticipate working with Foster Remodeling Solutions in the near future on additional renovation projects. Currently my wife and I are in the process of getting estimates on our basement project. I have spoken with a handful already and the prices have varied as you would expect. However with the scope of work I want to get done I believe this is the wrong company for us. I want a bathroom installed, drywall, flooring, and some builtin bookshelves. The lady on the phone was very nice however when she told me the bathroom itself could cost $27,000 alone I knew this company was overpriced. This is a basement bathroom I am not expecting custom home quality fit and finish, middle of the road for a basement bathroom seems more than adequate for the job. read more

Unfortunately, I saw this review and still proceeded with an estimate from Foster Remodeling. A gentleman came out to our house to take measurements of our kitchen and before he even left he estimated that the project would be around $50,000. I told him $50,000 wasn't in our budget. He claimed he'd go back to the office and crunch the numbers to "see what he could do." However, that was over 3 weeks ago and I still haven't heard anything. read more

We have used Foster remodeling for the total remodeling of two and one-half bathrooms and a kitchen. They are outstanding in all respects. The entire planning and execution of our projects were timely, efficient and professional. Foster employs the highest quality employees. They are a pleasure to work with. Beware! This company is not interested in jobs smaller than $50k, though they won't tell you that. You take the day off, since we live out in the exurbs of DC, to meet Dennis (the owner) at your home during the work week to go over your kitchen remodel. You discuss project costs, and are told the next step is to wait two weeks for the initial design and take the next step. Well two weeks come and go without word, you reach out via email to inquire "what's up" only to get no reply in return. Not a good business practice, hence this warning to others. Complete waste of our time without the decency of being honest with us. If zero stars were possible, that would be my rating. read more

Wonderful! I had my condo kitchen totally demolished and redone by Foster Remodeling Solutions. First it was done exactly on budget, within schedule, and was a delightful experience. The lead carpenter was even entertaining. It was a difficult job because condos are actually harder to do than a single family home. All the workmen were neat and met all the county and condo rules. But the most amazing aspect of the renovation is how beautiful the job turned out. All the colors and materials were carefully coordinated. My career was in project management of a half billion dollar system (which also came in on schedule and with in budget meeting performance requirements)- so I especially appreciate the engineering and design feat it was to do my kitchen. I am constantly giving tours of my kitchen to my neighbors. The word has spread. And it takes planning to do this great a job. That was done by a series of meetings to agree on all the details before the job began, then we signed a contract and both parties stuck to the agreement. read more

I agree with Chris V. In addition, the representative sent a quote but it went to my junk mail. He did not follow up to make sure I got the quote and I did not think to check my junk mail. I called the company to complain that I never got a quote (and that I had made a decision about what company to use) and disputed the $75 charge to come to my house. Once I realized the quote went to my junk mail I OFFERED to pay half the $75 charge but the company refused to work with me. Nice customer service. read more

If you are looking for VALUE, look no farther than Foster Remodeling Solutions. They are not the least expensive company but the old saying rings true--you get what you pay for. Foster recently completed a kitchen remodeling job as well as extensive floor tiling in other rooms and reconstruction of our staircase handrail with wrought iron. The kitchen job was extensive...right down to the studs...and included new cabinetry, backsplash, lighting, island, and flooring, as well as appliance installation. The quality of the craftsmanship was impeccable, the crew was professional, skilled, and trustworthy. Special kudos to Dory, our design consultant, Lee, our project manager, and especially Brian, our lead carpenter. If you have a large or difficult tile job, I highly recommend Brian; he is truly outstanding. David, the company owner, took a personal interest in our project and ensured every detail was attended to. I have attended the FRS Open House, I've had my consultation and my estimate meeting - the estimate is itemized. I have not started the actual remodeling portion. I encourage anyone looking to renovate to attend an open house a FRS. I learned a lot. I like the processes followed at FRS, they have a proven method for approaching renovation. I understand each step. I was previously overwhelmed. If transparency and courtesy are what you are looking for, FRS is your contractor. I really like that they have a showroom where you can see and touch the items you wish to use during the finishing work. I will have more to say after we start but so far, I am very impressed and pleased with FRS. I have spent over 30 hrs meeting with contractors. They may cost more but I believe, based on what I've seen in my scope of work, that FRS includes everything. They are extremely thorough and that is what I need. Check them out on Houzz. read more
