My independent insurance provider (State Farm) audited their itemized mitigation invoice ($34,138.13), approved and paid fair market value of $28,799.53 for all legitimate labor and materials, and denied a $5,338.60 line item for contractor profit. Rather than working through a standard insurance variance, the company manufactured an unauthorized secondary invoice for $4,306.50 without a signed change order and filed a retaliatory mechanic's lien against my property for $13,473.10--more than $8,000 above the initial insurance variance. This company engages in severe balance-billing and uses property liens to pressure homeowners after insurers settle fair market value. They are currently the subject of active consumer protection complaints with the DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP) and the DC Office of the Attorney General (OAG). Avoid this contractor for emergency restoration work. Ensure every estimate is locked down in writing and consult your insurer before signing any work authorizations.
