We were in Denver to see Crowded House and had breakfast at Jelly Cafe, which was near our Airbnb. Everything we tried was delicious. I had the cornflake french toast with berries - crunchy exterior, great berry compote, perfectly cooked. My husband went for the bacon jalapeno corn pancakes - a wonderful blend of salty/sweet/spicy goodness. Their coffee (dh had drip, I had a latte) was excellent. The place was busy when I went, but it's really great that they have the Yelp waitlist available so that people don't have to wait 2+ hours outside. That said, they do have to-go options available with a number of espresso drinks and even their uniquely flavored donut bites! They have a pretty extensive menu. I ordered their sweet potato hash, which I thought was great! I do love their in-house jelly and the hot sauces they provided. My friend ordered the chilaquiles with red chile that she also enjoyed. While I thought the donut bites were fun, I do not think I would order them again. They are all the same base (plain) with various icings. The mexican chocolate was a fun flavor, as was the creme anglaise. I would not recommend the Thai peanut, but perhaps I am biased as I associate this flavor with spring rolls, not necessarily for dessert items. They also had a seasonal menu that seemed fun, though I did not order anything from it. This place is a mood. They have a virtual waitlist and usually if you come before it being your turn - they sit you right away. It's a nice little spot in the neighborhood with the cutest hipster staff. Everyone is friendly and trendy af. I've been here multiple times now and here is my advice: skip the mini donuts - do yourself a favor and get the cinnamon roll pancakes. Warm and gooey and the flavor is just immaculate. The corned beef hash is amazing as well and both of these dishes are perfect to share for a little sweet and savory. I've also gotten the chiliquiles here as well and they were great. Everything about our experience here was ABSOLUTELY HUMILIATING and HORRIBLE! Their website says they are pet friendly but they are the complete opposite of this. I trusted what they announced on their website and brought my doodle. When I got there they said I couldn't be there with my dog and they guided me to their outdoor seating area. I assumed we would be sitting in the outside seating area where everyone else was, but instead they sat us on the street sidewalk, where they had 2 tables next to a homeless man that was doing chalk work on the sidewalk and yelling a whole bunch of slang. I didn't feel comfortable at all and was confused why we didn't sit in their outdoor seating area since at other restaurants they all have let us sit there. When they brought out the food, we saw an empty table inside the outdoor seating area so we moved our plates to sit inside. The waitress came out fast and started telling us we couldn't sit there because it was against Colorado law to have guests with dogs in their outdoor seating area. This seemed ridiculous to me so I told her this situation had never happened to me at other restaurants in CO. She was extremely rude and told us the 20+ places I have been to in Colorado didn't enforce the law but that Jelly did. She then tried forcing us to move back saying she would move our plates back and got her hands out to grab our plates from us. I told her I didn't want to move back and that I had lost my appetite from how they were treating us. I told her I couldn't eat the food anymore. She quickly snatched the food and we got up to leave. We couldn't believe how unprofessional they were. We stood at the corner of the street to figure out the new plans for breakfast and another of their waiters came out to start yelling at us that they had found accomodations for us and that we should be ashamed we ordered and not paying for the meals. It felt like he was trying to gaslight us when at the end of the day their accommodations were not very accomodating. Anyway I called my husband on my drive back home and asked him if he knew about this colorado law that doesn't allow pets on outdoor seating areas. He looked it up and was as I had thought. They were completely BS'ing us about the whole dogs not being allowed in outdoor seating areas. They actually are and from what I had seen the layout requirements did accommodate for this. For anyone with dogs or without dogs, please don't come here, they are actually not dog friendly and are very unprofessional with how they treat customers or just normal people. Will not be coming to any of their locations again. read more

I visited Jelly on a Tuesday afternoon during my recent trip to Denver. The food was solid and I'd certainly return the next time I'm there. The Donut Bites were worth trying!!! I highly recommend trying the salted caramel and maple bacon (I think that's the name). They were my favorite. The cinnamon sugar and jelly flavored donuts were ok. I ordered a pineapple mimosa and a smoked salmon benedict. I almost ordered another beverage after reading a review on the price of mimosas and the lack of alcohol. Perhaps I had a heavy-handed bartender because my mimosa certainly gave me a buzz. The benedict was cooked to perfection. The smoked salmon was packed with flavor and the poached egg and hollandaise sauce brought it altogether very well. I could have done without the potatoes on the side. They were bland, cold, and flavorless. Overall, Jelly is a solid business and the customer service was great. The restaurant is somewhat small (from what I could tell), and the seating was limited. Perplexed and disappointed. Went on a Tuesday and had great service. Went the next day, same time, and had lousy service. Server got my wife's order wrong, then needed reminding to fix it. Never once had an offer to refill my coffee or water. (Both were completely empty for a while.) It was really hard to get anyone's attention for our check. (Stacking our plates next to the edge of our table wasn't enough I guess.) I had planned on ordering donut holes, because I enjoyed them the day before. But by the time the server noticed us, I was in too bad a mood to be able to enjoy them. I normally like to give servers a lot of slack. It's a hard job. I'd suck at it. But the place was barely a quarter full, and there were multiple times I felt like we were being deliberately ignored. (Which I've never felt before in a restaurant.) A simple "sorry, just a moment" would have gone a long way. Idk I seriously wonder if we offended the staff somehow. The only thing I can think we did was when we were seated, the person who seated us (not our server) pointed us to the QR code at our table for our menu. I remembered having physical menus the day before, so once the server left I got up and grabbed two menus from a stand at the bar. Maybe that annoyed someone? I honestly don't know. The food was also a little disappointing. Biscuits and gravy with far too little gravy. The sandwich I got yesterday was good though. I do like the decoration of the place. The collection of antiquated cereal boxes was cool. And the color scheme. And at first I thought the aesthetic of letting the servers wear pajama pants and a beanie to work gave it a casual feel. But now I'm not so sure that was a deliberate choice by management. Sorry if I seem salty. Today was the last day of my wife and my honeymoon, and she was in a lot of pain from all the hiking we did these last few days. Walking the extra distance from our hotel to this place only to have this experience put a bad taste in my mouth. So maybe take my review with a grain of salt. The hollondaise sauce is amazing and the breakfast potatoes come with sour cream and chives. The blueberry pancakes were great too! The vanilla latte was one of the best I've had! There isn't much seating, so I can see the restaurant getting super packed on the weekends. While I appreciate the convenience of a QR code menu, I loved seeing the donut bite flavors advertised above the barstool area. We started with "actual" food--I got the Eggs Benedict. Love that the eggs are "lovingly poached" and paired with smoked ham and hollandaise atop sourdough bread. Classic but so good. We got a whole plate of donut bites to share, with flavors including Mexican Chocolate, Cinnamon & Sugar, Salted Caramel, Thai Peanut, Jelly, Lemon, and Maple Bacon.
