Javier's in Newport Beach has been my favorite place to chill in the early afternoons every few years. I say that because around 2 pm on a Wednesday, it's easy to get in and out. Ample parking, attentive service, and great food. On Wednesday, I was solo and ordered two Cucumber Jalapeño margaritas with salsa and chips. After I enjoyed scoping out every inch of the awesome decor and ambience, I ordered the famous beans. Boy are they delicious! Next came Enchiladas Mariscos which knocked it out of the park. Beautifully presented, great temperature, and the zesty green sauce was delicious. To my surprise the rice and beans no longer come along with this amazing entree. That rubbed me wrong. Adding $18 to my lunch made me wrinkle my nose and ask why? No beans and no rice, no business. Kelley the hostess was amazing, Martin was attentive, Augustin the manager was cordial. The staff there especially the bartender Salvador whom I've know for many years are memorable. Keep it that way.
$15 Valet Parking is 100% WORTH IT! Parking is a challenge in this shopping center. Ambiance is lively and energetic! Great for a date night! Great for large groups! Many celebrating a birthday tonight Hector was our server and was simply fantastic! Stopped by our table frequently to make sure we had everything we needed without interrupting our conversation. We're so grateful! Every dish we ordered was not only made perfectly but the presentation was FIRST CLASS! We enjoyed every moment and look forward to returning again soon!
Visited Javier's in Newport Beach on a Sunday evening. Reservations are definitely recommended--they were very busy, but with our reservation we were seated right away. The ambiance is beautiful, and the location right across from the beach makes it even better. They offer both valet and self-parking, which is convenient. Service was prompt and attentive, especially considering how busy they were, and the food was tasty and well prepared. Overall, everything was good and we had an enjoyable experience. There really wasn't anything I could complain about, but at the same time, nothing particularly wowed me or made it a place I'd go out of my way to visit regularly. That said, it's a beautiful restaurant with good food, good service, and a great atmosphere--definitely worth experiencing.
We loved our last visit to Javier's. We were lucky enough to get seats at the bar looking out to the ocean. Oustanding service and great food. My wife said the crab enchiladas is oneof the best things she ever ate!
Food is hit or miss. I got the Cabo Azul combo with Lobster Enchilada, Shrimp Taco, and Crab Poblano Pepper. Everything was fresh but flavorless. And the tortillas did not seem to be homemade. My wife got the Steak Picado and loved it. Our friend got the Fideo Del Mar, essentially seafood pasta in a pink sauce. She loved it. The hand cut thick fries were awesome. As for drinks, the Javier's Margarita was great, the Casa Margarita was flavorless, the Pina Margarita was phenomenal, the Espresso Martini (not Marco's style) was great. My wife was happy they had New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The Pastel Tres Leches cake was average. The Fried Ice Cream was excellent. Service was prompt and courteous. The ambience is high end, everybody dresses up, and it's definitely a see and be seen place. There's a bar area that you can stand around with drinks and socialize. In the dining area there are huge tables that are great for large groups. I saw many adult birthday parties happening. Parking is quick and easy with valet.
We love great Mexican food and when in Irvine we always make a stop at Javier's. They have the best atmosphere, day or night. We stopped during the day this time and were sat in the bar area, super fun! My hubby had chicken enchiladas and I had their Salmon Salad. I wish there was more salad but the size of the salmon made up for it. It was cooked to perfection and seasoned really well. Of course we had to indulge in a couple of Lemon Martinis, mine with a shot of Chambord. And yes, we treated ourselves to some fried ice cream for dessert with an Espresso Martini. The service is always top notch and super friendly. It made for another excellent dining experience.
Food is good!! It was packed and lively on a Tuesday night. I definitely felt underdressed going here. Table consensus: tomahawk was the star of the meal. Cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and they packed the bone for my dog later XD I'd skip the drinks they were ok. Loved the fried ice cream. It's pricey but nice on a special occasion
I love Javier's! This is probably one of my favorite locations mainly for the beautiful ocean views and vibes. Definitely try go get a table on the patio if you want the best experience. I came with a friend to catch up over some food and drinks. Any of their margaritas are good but I usually go for either spicy or pepino (cucumber). I decided to order one of the combo plates that came with a shredded beef taco, cheese enchilada, rice, and beans. It was pretty good. I think the combo plates are the best bang for your buck since this place can be a bit pricey.
I got the arrachera and the meat was so good! The beans were alright. I also got a side for the chiles toreados and they completed my meal!! I also got a spicy margarita and it was delicious. The service was good!! The place ended up getting real busy in the evening.
They have hands down the best chips and salsa, margarita and shareable dinner plates for any occasion. The ambiance is dark and very romantic. It seems to be busy any time we go in, so making a reservation is key.
This place is always packed despite the enormous restaurant and endless tables. The menu has great options from Mexican food to steakhouse favorites. I got the green chicken enchiladas which were yummy. My husband got a steak and loved it. The chips and guac are always fan favs too. It's comfortable seating and despite the crowds, you can still have conversations without it being too loud. Service was lovely. I'm sure we'll be back, but I do think the price point is a little high for some of their menu items (two enchiladas for $40).
The best location of all Javier's- so spacious inside with seating arrangements ideal for 12+ people while enjoying sunset views! We were quite a rowdy party celebrating my birthday and this place went above and beyond with their service and attentiveness. Took all food requests like a champ for picky eaters (me!) and clarified everything with us before putting orders in. Food was fresh and delicious and made sure for all 12 plates to come out at the same time. They even added extra birthday desserts :) **this place is always jam packed so plan ahead
Came in for a family dinner with a party of 13, and wow--this place was already packed by 4:30 PM! Reservations aren't required, but I highly recommend making one if you don't want to wait. Despite how busy they were, the service was excellent. Drinks and appetizers arrived within minutes of ordering, and the staff did a great job keeping up with our large group. The unlimited chips and salsa were dangerously good. I always tell myself I'll stop after a few chips, but somehow I never do--and this salsa was definitely the reason why! For my entrée, I ordered the three seafood enchiladas. I appreciated that the seafood flavors were bold and fresh without tasting fishy. The green sauce complemented the dish perfectly and elevated the flavors even more. I also sampled a combination plate, which was good overall, although I felt the chile relleno had a little too much cheese, making it difficult to taste the chile itself. For dessert, we couldn't decide on just one, so we ordered the chocolate cake, tres leches cake, and fried ice cream. My ranking: fried ice cream first, tres leches second, and chocolate cake third. The chocolate cake was good but similar to what you'd find at many other restaurants. The tres leches was delicious--moist without being overly milky or sweet, and the almonds added a nice texture and flavor. The fried ice cream was the standout for me. The crunchy cereal coating added great texture, and because it wasn't overly sweet, it balanced perfectly with the ice cream. Overall, this is a place I'd definitely recommend for both the food and service. Just remember: reservations, reservations, reservations!.

Enchiladas de Camarones (packed with shrimp and crab, so yummy) - Guacamole Nachos - Empanadas de Camarón (the crust is super crispy, stuffed with tender shrimp, topped with creamy sauce, cheese, and pesto - so rich and flavorful) Definitely recommend! The Trio de Enchiladas Lobster, shrimp, and fish. The sauce is killer, feels like avocado and cheese. - Steak Picado (made with premium Angus sirloin, stir-fried with tomatoes, onions, and pasilla chilies, seasoned with garlic and cilantro) You gotta try this! - Ceviche de Ahi (so fresh, refreshing, and sweet) Totally loved it Service is great. They have performance at night and the ambience is pretty chill and full of cultural decorations. read more

I've lived in the US for 10 years, and this was easily the worst service experience I've ever had at a high-end restaurant. We came for a birthday lunch, and the restaurant was not busy at all -- about all of the tables were empty. The hostess, an older Latina woman, seated us in a corner table. We politely asked if we could switch to a different spot with a better view and looked around at the open tables. We were respectful the entire time, but she was rude from the very start, with a terrible attitude. My friend later told me she slammed our menus down on the table and pouted. It was shockingly unprofessional. I couldn't help but wonder: if she doesn't like her job, she shouldn't be working in hospitality. We even questioned whether we were receiving this treatment because of our race. We requested to speak with the manager. Unfortunately, the manager's response was dismissive and perfunctory. We never received any genuine apology for the hostess's behavior. This level of treatment is completely unacceptable for a restaurant of this caliber. That said, our server who took care of our table was wonderful. He was polite and attentive, and he's the only reason this review is not a total disaster. read more

The food was delicious. Hot plates, perfect food, and great drinks. I ordered an espresso martini, and they let me get the vodka based mixed with the baileys which was perfect. I loved the enchiladas and the beans. Our server was lovely and she had a great attitude. The restaurant was clean, well maintained, and busy, but we got the best service. read more
I don't eat much Mexican food & never been to Javier's but was pleasantly surprised with the food, service, and ambiance!! Came here for a friend's bday and we were an hour late to our reservation but got seated rather quickly. It was extremely busy for a Friday night at 8 pm so I wouldn't suggest walk-ins. There's also only valet parking ($15 for dinner/all day/weekends). First off, the interior is absolutely gorgeous with elevated yet tropical vibes, also right next to the ocean - felt like I was back in Cancun! Our party was a little chaotic since we brought a cake & some props for my friend's bday but the staff were super friendly and accommodating! They even used their mini flashlights when they saw us getting flash photos or using selfie lights. The space is also large enough that there are several spots to take photos where you're not in anyone's way & most customers were unbothered, even wishing my friend a happy bday or hyping her up. Each of us ordered different dishes and loved all! My favorite was the shrimp tacos which were seasoned so well it didn't need a dipping sauce. Very fresh & tasty!! I also loveee their guac as it's so smooth, creamy, and fresh. I eat a lot of chips with guac/salsa at home so this definitely hit the spot. Overall, we had a really enjoyable night!! It's just unfortunate they're pricey, have only valet, charge for rice & beans, and a cake cutting fee so the costs add up but it's great for a special occasion. I would honestly come back! read more
Stopped by Javier's around 3:30 PM on a Tuesday and it was the perfect time to go. Plenty of parking, no wait, and lots of open tables. Every server we interacted with was super friendly and attentive. We ordered the La Tablita and the ceviche trio (ahi, shrimp, and octopus), and everything was honestly really good. The jalapeño cocktail was also delicious. There was a nice kick to it, but wasn't too spicy. We were seated in the back by the patio, and the remodel is seriously gorgeous. The space feels so open with all the natural light coming in, and it has a really nice upscale vibe. Will 100% be back. read more
Javier's visual aesthetic is unreal, especially at nighttime. The interior design, the lit torches, the beach view??? It is truly the reason for the price point on their menu. I came here last Sunday either a group of friends and we had ordered margaritas and mojitos for the whole table. Drinks were delicious and the chips and salsa were a great pairing as well. We had multiple servers attend to us during our dinner and they were on TOP of it. I mean filling up waters, making sure our drinks were replenished, making space on the table. Truly fantastic and much appreciated attentive service. The food? Honestly it was subpar. I've tried the Javier's in Irvine and didn't like their food either so I came in with low expectations. We got a medium rare Tomahawk steak and it just felt bland. There was nothing special about the food and it lacked more flavor honestly. I do want to say I would recommend coming to Javier's despite the food if you're looking for a great place to grab a drink or maybe you just want a killer view. read more

Javier's at Crystal Cove is one of the most iconic restaurant scenes in Southern California when it comes to Mexican food. I've been coming here with my family for years, celebrating countless birthdays and special occasions, so I figured it was time to update my review. One of the biggest improvements is the remodel they completed a few years ago. The restaurant feels much larger, more open, and more modern. The atmosphere has always been a huge part of Javier's appeal. The food has consistently been good, but the prices have climbed higher and higher over the years. At times, they feel close to being a "ripoff", but the ambiance, ocean adjacent location, and overall experience help justify it. That said, the "scene" isn't quite what it used to be. Javier's has long been a staple of Newport Beach culture and will probably remain that way forever. Years ago, it felt like the place to see and be seen. Today, it feels more like a local institution than a hotspot, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. As a family with several vegetarians, one thing that has always bothered us is the pricing. Charging extra for beans and rice often makes certain vegetarian dishes more expensive than entrées that include meat, which feels hard to justify. My family's favorite vegetarian option is the spinach enchiladas, while my go to order is the three item combination plate with a chicken enchilada, taco, and chile relleno. While many people argue that South of Nick's serves better Mexican food, I respectfully disagree. South of Nick's may be more affordable, but I still think Javier's serves the best Mexican food in town. It's a great choice for date nights, family dinners, celebrations, or anyone looking for a classic Newport Beach experience. The service and overall food quality may have slipped slightly over the years, but Javier's remains my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Yes, the prices are outrageous, but the food, atmosphere, and tradition keep us coming back. Cool Fact: Kobe Bryant used to regularly come to Javier's and they had a drink called "the black mamba" named after him on the menu! read more

We came here on Mother's Day- they opened a few hours earlier than they normally do because it is insanely busy on this day (obvs). I made sure to make reservations about a month in advance for 11 am. There was 8 of us total, we were seated in the best seats I could have dreamed of. Our view of the ocean in the back just really made it seem like we were on another tropical island eating brunch. Our waitress was so attentive and patient with us so thank you! And the food, I mean it's been years since I've been to Javier's and that was at the spectrum location. Nothing was disappointing. The queso fundido was incredibly cheesy and perfect with warm tortillas, endless chips, and from the look of everyone's faces each bite was savored entirely. They don't have a kids menu but they are very accommodating and able to make a brc burrito with chicken and chicken quesadillas for the little ones. The one thing we noticed was that the napkins were almost pilling and left white residual fabric on your clothes, but I mean that's just one thing that really you can ignore unless you wear all black BUT.. food makes up for it and really that's what you are here for. Reservations were for 2 hours so we really took our time and just enjoyed the ambiance with family read more

Amazing food and atmosphere. Got a nice view of the ocean. The seafood pasta tasted great. The crab claws were a bit hard to eat with a fork and knife. The tres leches was also amazing. We were celebrating a birthday and they were nice enough to gave the birthday girl a scoop of ice cream with a candle on it. We also have a big group so we weren't all there on time for the reservation but they held the table for us so we got seated as soon as everyone got there. read more

Went to Javier's for a dinner party and had a great experience. Beautiful views, delicious food, attentive service, and amazing company made for a memorable night. The food is upscale, traditional Mexican that reminded me of a classic carne asada at home, with sides like guacamole, grilled onions, and spicy salsa, but elevated with a refined touch. You can tell there's real culinary artistry behind it. The queso fundido is a must have appetizer along with the taquitos (great for sharing). I also ordered the sea bass and it was great! The restaurant itself is stunning, and I also appreciated the Spanish-speaking staff, it made the experience feel even more welcoming and authentic. read more
You like authentic Mexican food with a view of the Pacific Ocean? If you do, this place is for you. Now in High School I worked at the best Mexican restaurant in San Jose so I am speaking with that background...this place is better. I kept the order simple...a test of the basics. Tacos Dorado (crispy tacos) with a side of rice and beans. The carne asada tacos were amazing. Perfectly roasted and pan fried to give it that crisp. Chips perfect and the hot sauce they can elevate to habenero...just ask for it. Service was on point as well and the place had a really good Newport Beach vibe on it. Great food and...well lots of tattoos. If you are in SoCal...give this a try...you won't be disappointed. read more
Good food. Great service. Ambiance wasn't my favorite. I've always saw Javier's as a place to get great food and service but I think the atmosphere wasn't what I expected. The music was very loud, the front of the restaurant was a bit busy and crowded and the dining area felt way less demure than what I'm used to. We often found ourselves trying to yell over the music. The food was very well made. Chips came out warm, steak and white came out fresh. The service was exceptional. Our server (Evaristo) was hospitable, patient, responsive and made sure we enjoyed our food. Overall the craftsmanship and serving of the food was great but the busy, loud feeling I got while in the restaurant threw off my experience. Would go to Javier's again if it was a different location. read more

You can't go wrong here, this is the third time I've been here when we've been down in the area. I love the one in Newport Beach the views are amazing the people are always friendly, the food is always good. It's a must try if you love Mexican food it is on the pricier side but well worth it. We sat at the bar to watch the World Cup game and had the enchiladas and the quesadilla with chips and guac and a couple of drinks always a perfect day. read more

Always a pleasure visiting this Javier's location. Our go‑tos are the Javier's Special House Salad, Cabo Azul, and a Carajillo to wrap up either lunch or dinner. The staff is consistently friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is always such a vibe. I definitely prefer the lunch experience over dinner -- everything just feels a bit more relaxed and enjoyable. read more
We went here for my cousins birthday. I would give the atmosphere a 5 star review because it is very pretty and elegantly designed. My drink was pretty good I will say! My ceviche was not great. My husbands food was better than mine but for the price it's definitely not worth coming back. The service was ok at best since we were a larger group we wanted to split the bill in two parts but they did not allow that. Then when we used cash they somehow uncharged my cousin and they spoke with the manager to fix the mistake. Great photo ops, enjoyed the music and vibe is upscale but for dining purposes not impressed. read more
My boyfriend made reservations for a date night on a Thursday night for 830. We arrived at 815 to try to catch the sunset view from the back bar inside the restaurant. The sunset was beautiful. Came here to celebrate a birthday. The atmosphere is what you come for. Beautiful interior, dim and moody during dinner (my favorite), and right on the coast. Parking is horrendous, but there is valet or you can drive farther into the plaza and park for free and walk 200 feet. Thursday night was absolutely packed, I thought it was the weekend. Food is standard. The one notable item was specifically the steak in our La Tablita platter. Very smokey and tender. Otherwise, the platter is $120 and comes with rice, beans, two slices of cheese, some guac, canned pickled jalapenos... underwhelming! This is described as serving 2, but for us it served 5 girlies. Perhaps because the food took so long that we filled up on chips and salsa. Trio de Ceviche: Fish ceviche was boring, lacked citrus/tartness. Preferred the shrimp for this reason. We got 2 of the same ceviche because they ran out of other options by 8pm. The drinks are also VERY strong. I'd come back for drinks and ambiance and special occasions. Javier's is absolutely stunning from the moment you arrive the exterior alone sets the tone for a really upscale experience. We checked in right away since we had a reservation, and although we did have to wait about 15-20 minutes, it wasn't too bad. Just a heads up, they do require your full party to be present before being seated. Once inside, the ambiance is dim, elegant, and perfect for a date night or celebrating something special. After being seated, they brought out chips and salsa along with the menus. Service throughout the night was attentive, with servers checking in often to make sure we had everything we needed. The food did take about 30-40 minutes to arrive. I ordered the chicken enchilada and taco place with rice and beans which was good overall. I'd give it about a 7/10 but the green salsa was a bit disappointing. It tasted more factory made than fresh, which didn't quite match the upscale vibe. The biggest issue came at the end. When we asked for the check, a different server handled the payment. We split the bill using cash and three cards (which is their max). I carefully counted and explained exactly how we wanted everything divided. After going to the back, he returned saying we were short $97. Then after "double checking," he came back again claiming we were actually short $150 and that it needed to be paid in cash. At that point, it felt very off. I asked to speak with a manager, explained everything clearly, and after they reviewed it, we were suddenly told everything was fine. Depends for how many people... I came for a table for two, and they were able to just do a walk-in.
How can i get a gift card for a gift?
Last time I bought a gift card, I went in and the hostess got one for me. This current Javier's is under renovation and closed right now, but there is another one in Irvine at the Irvine Spectrum.
Do they take reservations for the lounge?
On their website, it states they take reservations over the phone. However, we tried calling for a while and no one answered. However, we just decided to try walking in and managed to get seated right away on a Monday evening during the dinner rush.
Is there a dress code?
Not really. Guests are dressed from beach wear to business casual.
Do they have any gluten free options or make gluten allergy accommodations?
I am also gluten-free so and dairy free so I just ask for chicken enchiladas with corn tortillas and a green sauce no cheese but you will have to ask if they have specific gluten-free things and as usual the chips and salsa are gluten-free enjoy!
I hear this place is really a 'meat market' is it true?
In my opinion. I go with friends or family at lunch time or dinner, so I am not sure what would happen later on in the evening...

There is self parking in the lot surrounding the area!

What is the max amount of people per table during this time?
Most of the outdoor tables were set up for parties of six. But, I ate there on Saturday and I saw a group of 8 at a table.
