I've also been told their French toast is very good, too. It is well worth checking out before a day game at Oracle Park.

Broooo, I used to walk past Java on Ocean Coffee House all the time when I was younger thinking "yeah this place look expensive, I KNOW they don't want my broke self in there." Whole time I was just intimidating myself for no reason. Finally took a leap of faith and went in one day and the barista was literally so sweet and welcoming. Like not fake nice either -- actual warm energy. Made me feel like I belonged there fr. Now I be getting my lil soy latte on the regular. Drink be costing $7.25 which lowkey hurt at first BUT IDC anymore because life is short and the coffee SLAPS! And listen... I been winning at the casinos lately so I tipped $1.75 and made it an even $9 because baristas in SF probably fighting for their lives paying that astronomical rent. If you can afford to tip, DO IT. That little extra really matters to people in the service industry. They even got a little bird in here which is pretty awesome! Anyways shoutout Java on Ocean for healing my inner broke teenager and caffeinating my adult self. Highly recommend with my utmost respectful regards. read more

Java on Ocean... Coffee they use is not the best quality, but the regular pot coffee is actually made Turkish. Very strong in flavor it will perk you up in the morning. Even though the coffee is okay, those little munchies they got are great! I love the Baklava, the Mediterranean honey dessert. And that dainty butter cookies with pistachio... yum Their selections of bottled juices are fun. Great sandwich! I love the grilled herb chicken with avocado and sprouts. They actually marinate the chicken themselves and also the tuna salad. Get the "rosemary potato" bread, it smells very nice. My other favorite is the Falafel. Most girls work there is from SFSU or CCSF. Very cute and friendly, it adds on to your relaxing coffee shop experience. Interiors are funky with worn out sofas and random birds in cage. I went here a couple of weeks ago and as soon as I walked in I noticed the place reeked of just plain awful stench! This was already a red flag for me, but I stuck around anyway. Then I realized that the smell is coming from a homeless person lounging on the couch with which it looked like he had stained bloody clothing on. It is nice and all that the employees here are being inclusive and having this place open for the public, however, if it is a health hazard for others, then they should be mindful and deny services to such people like this. I have nothing against civilized homeless people, but if their presence affects my well-being and the well-being of others then it is obviously a major issue. read more

Came in here in the afternoon for a cup of coffee. Their coffee is pretty good, and the girl at the cashier was incredibly friendly. However, although the coffee shop was big enough to get seated immediately, I found the environment a little weird! There is a bird in a cage (I don't like the concept of having animals in a cage), and the kinda Arabic music sounded a little annoying! This place is usually very crowded thanks to its location, and cheap food and sandwiches, but other than that, I don't see anything outstanding about it! A really nice corner cafe. I like the birds inside, it's a really nice gesture and a sign of life continuity. I like this cafe for many reasons: There is space for people waiting in line, it is fast service and good coffee. I like sitting there and working on assignments as the street being my view and people passing by. One thing I don't like about Java on Ocean is that it started closing early. If this place closes a little bit more late I will probably be there everyday. read more

Super calm, subtle music. Tables are round and small. Outlets are limited. But the owner is funny and friendly. He read my mind and showed me the wifi password when I went up to the register. Didn't have to ask! I got the Chicken Herb Sandwich for $6.99. The bread is fluffy and sandwich was warm :). Good coffee, tasty food, and a great atmosphere to study or people watch. As with everything, the cost of coffee and food has gone up-- they're not the cheapest place in town (or the most expensive). As fans of Java Beach Cafe, all of us had been aware of this sister location yet, somehow, none of us had actually stopped in before. So, even though we hadn't actually planned on it, we were all more than happy to finally stop in! Inside, the decor and vibe of this place looks so much like their original spot on Judah - wood-laden interior with some counter seats and dated posters and decorations that give it a warm and cozy vibe. Plus, it's awesome how they have a fair amount of seating inside and about a half dozen patio tables outside, which is perfect for those sunny and breezy days out here by the beach. Similarly, the menu here is nearly identical, with the same collection of espressos, coffees, teas, pastries, breakfast burritos, sandwiches, and beers, but with the addition of soft serve, shakes, and floats, which I don't recall seeing at their spot on Judah/La Playa. -- TSUNAMI HOT SUB with Ham, Salami, Mortadella, Choice of Cheese (Swiss), Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Mayo, Mustard, and Special Sauce on Choice of Roll (French Roll)...$18.75 Not quite as good as how I remember it, but still pretty solid. The mix of meats was still just as delicious and they didn't skimp on the portion nor their "special sauce" (Italian dressing?). That said, I didn't like this French roll as much, as it was a lot thicker and harder. -- ARNOLD PALMER...$7.25 (16oz) I liked this so much at their original location, I couldn't resist getting it here and, thankfully, it was just as good. Not only was there an even ratio of iced tea to lemonade, but the taste of this was so well balanced - not overly sweet nor tart or bitter. As far as service goes, just like at their sister location, all of the workers here are so nice and friendly. They warmly greeted everyone that came in and got our orders out relatively fast. What's more, the vibes here feel a bit more chill and relaxed by comparison. Maybe it's because you don't have the N-Judah line right outside, but it seemed a bit more peaceful with a nice mix of customers - from folks quietly working and reading to families stopping in for a bite on their way to/from the zoo. Overall, as much as I enjoyed my visit to this Java Beach, I feel like I'd be remiss not to acknowledge that the prices here do trend higher than what you might expect to find elsewhere. Nothing egregious or anything, but I can't say I expected my lunch was going to cost $26 (before tip) either. Given that, despite how much I genuinely like Java Beach, I'd probably be more inclined to come back when I'm looking to post up to do some work rather than strictly just to get a bite. Unless it's to check out their soft serve floats, shakes, or one of their specialty coffees, which all looked so interesting! All in all, THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded down for now.

You've got thick-cut turkey, crispy bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, all stacked between toasted bread. Good balance across the board. Nothing is overpowering, everything plays its role. The avocado adds some creaminess, bacon brings the salt and crunch, and the turkey is sliced thick enough to actually feel like something. Bread is nicely toasted. Holds everything together without getting in the way, which is key for a sandwich like this. It's not trying to reinvent anything, just a well-executed classic. This spot has a real neighborhood vibe, in a good way. Plenty of patio seating and dog friendly. Steps away from one of the city's best oceanside walks. Not bad, right? Would run this back for a quick lunch if I'm in the area, but really hard to compete w the other incredible sandwich options in SF, so wouldn't go out of my way to come back. With that said, you should definitely give the place a try if you've never been.

Great little coffee place in Excelsior. Place is small but it's worth trying just because of their…read moreube sweets. The street is also full of restaurants and yummy options for lunch so I definitely recommend turning your trip into a fun culinary adventure into the neighborhood. I ordered the ube tiramisu and ube tres leches. Both yummy. Coffee was good too and the place has wifi and some room for chilling with your laptop if you need to work.
