Java Kai is a great stop for coffee and smoothies especially if you're vegan. They have solid vegan options for drinks and everything we tried on that front was really good. That said I do wish they had more vegan bakery and pastry options. On some days there were no vegan pastries available at all which was a little disappointing and made it feel hit or miss for us. But the açaí bowl. Wow. Hands down the best açaí bowl I've ever had no exaggeration. Perfect texture amazing flavor and incredibly fresh. It's honestly worth making the trip just for that alone. If you're vegan go for the coffee smoothies and absolutely do not skip the açaí bowl. Just don't count on pastries being there every day and if they ever expand those options this place would be next level. read more

I have been there 3 times since coming to the South side for their nitro cold brew. The service was great and the ambiance was well set up, given that it's an outdoor venue. Have been coming here for days for coffee and the coffee is excellent. A couple days ago I got a gluten free sandwich and asked them if they toast the Gf bread in the same toaster as the gluten bread. They said yes so I asked if they could toast in a pan, they said yes and I ate it and did not have a reaction. But today, I asked for the exact same thing and they said no, I asked for not toasted, and they said if I have celiac everything had cross contact and they could not accommodate. So I said "so don't order anything?" And they said no. I was caught off guard, I could have ordered a smoothie or something but I just couldn't think at the point. So while I am in love with their coffee and they have been friendly, I was sad about how that was handled and that I sat with my group of 7 while everyone else ate. Wow, the coffee game in Kōloa has gotten so good. I saw Java Kai while we were touristing in Old Kōloa Town and noticed they had bags of coffee so I walked up. I bought a bag of their El Gato blend, and had it ground. The staff was super helpful and friendly. The coffee is very good: fruity with chocolate that lingers at the end of each sip. Tried it and did not like my drink. Basing this solely on the service and the coffee. I did not get any food for my order. The bad: energy was off from the get go. The person at the kiosk taking my order seemed rude to myself and my wife. Rolling their eyes, not welcoming, looking angry. Basically taking our order with a "what do you want?" Attitude. In food experiences I'm big on positive energy and gratitude. This off putting attitude ain't Aloha at all, miss me with that BS. The good: the macnut latte I got was decent, my wife enjoyed the Shark Bite and that was probably overall a better drink. Drinks were in my opinion just okay. I found this to be one of the better coffee spots in the area. I had the maui mocha, which is a mocha with a hint of coconut. I liked how the coconut flavor didn't over power the coffee. The area is nice too with tables, other shops to peruse and a restroom. I will definitely be back amd recommend this place. read more
