    Haupia cold foam

A favorite stop every time we are in Kauai! In a cool old building that has had a little boutique attached and little dark horse merch area as well. Got my favorite haupia cold foam cold brew that was fresh and creamy. Tired their breakfast sandwich this time as well which was filling and tasty! Service was quick and friendly, we'll be a repeat customer.

Loved this spot! Dark Horse Coffee feels like a true local hangout. It's right next to the elementary school, and you can tell people in the neighborhood come here daily. Coffee? I got an americano, my friend tried the brown sugar latte - both amazing! If you're a coffee lover in Kaua'i, this should be on your list. Bonus! There's a cute retail space inside with swimsuits, surf gear, accessories, cards, and more. Such a fun mix of caffeine + shopping

5 stars for the ambiance. They have one of the largest coffee spaces in Kauai that I've seen so far. One of the best coffees I've had so far. I ordered the Aloha Spirit and my mom ordered a Hot Latte. Service was a little lacking. Their staff weren't that inviting in my opinion. That's just my experience. We were there when we opened. Maybe they were waking up. The Aloha Spirit wasn't too sweet. Right about of sweetness thanks to the foam. Aloha Spirit: 5/5 Hot Latte: can't say. I didn't try it. My mom ordered it.

Located right in Koloa, Dark Horse Coffee Roasters should be your new go-to coffee spot! We stopped by for an afternoon coffee, to wake up and cool off. It closes around 3pm so keep that in mind. They have in door and outdoor seating. They have a wide variety of different coffee drinks and a small selection of pastries/baked goods. I got a cold brew with this sweet coconut cold foam on top which was fantastic! The prices were good too! I was happy with the service, the space has lots of seating and was well decorated. This is such a great find!

High ceilinged building with a few tables and merch shelves, small but serviceable parking lot out front. Staff was pleasant. Coffee was very good. I got two bagels from them which were solid. Would recommend.

Great coffee shop right in Kōloa! I got the iced latte which was delicious. They have tables and chairs inside with a really cute little store in the back with local products. The people working at both the coffee shop and the store in the back were great and so friendly with suggestions. Definitely recommend if you're in the area!

Dark Horse Coffee Roasters in Koloa is the kind of place that makes you feel cooler just for walking in. It's got that effortlessly hip, small-batch vibe without ever feeling pretentious--and the coffee absolutely delivers. I grabbed an iced drink to go and immediately regretted not ordering something larger. The beans are clearly high quality, and everything tastes freshly made with care. The space itself is small but stylish, with a laid-back energy that fits perfectly with Kauai's slower pace. Whether you're fueling up for a beach day or just need a midday pick-me-up, this spot is a solid choice.

Great coffee and food! We ordered an iced vanilla latte and an iced brown sugar lattee, both great. Champ bagels were the breakfast of choice with a tasty honey and cinnamon cream cheese! The ambiance of the coffee shop was chill and had a nice breeze with fans and open windows. The kindness of the staff outshone how busy they were.

The location holds a special place in my heart because it was a former Young Buddhist Association social hall, adjacent to a temple that burned down a long time ago. I appreciate that the building has found a new life as a coffee shop. While the drip coffee and maple latte I tried were quality, I cannot say they were my favorite in the area. That said, on several mornings I was drawn back so I could sit outside across from a statue of Shinran, the great Buddhist scholar, and have my coffee under the shade of the large tree.

Cute place near the Post Office. Not crowded like the well known coffee/breakfast places. Really a great find and it's a great place to enjoy a coffee quietly outside in the shade.

Visited Dark Horse Coffee Shop twice during our trip to Kauai. Familiar with Dark Horse Cafe in North Park, San Diego, I was pleasantly surprised to see the familiar name on the island. Solid coffee, very rich and flavorful. I also loved their almond cake, displayed alongside other tempting pastries. My husband enjoyed his warm egg and sausage bagel, but breakfast options felt limited. The shop had a nice vibe, had some of their merchandize for sale. It was strange they only served 12-ounce lattes, no larger sizes available.

Good coffee Fast service and friendly servers Loved the environment and atmosphere Worth the stop

The best hot black coffee in Kauai!
    Michael S.

My wife is a Dark Horse Coffee Roasters fan and she has been getting her caffeine fix there since they started in San Diego. Little by little DHCR has opened shops across SoCal and now on the south shore of Kauai. In short, this was the best coffee we had during our vacation. The hot brewed coffee was insanely good and my wife's "Champ" -- a cinnamon honey latte -- was solid. Our kids had bagels and cream cheese and approved. Lastly, they sell a variety of whole bean bagged coffee, including Central American, Ethiopian, and blends. Prices were roughly $18-20 per bag.

We sat on the patio by the pool and luckily the umbrella was large enough to block the sun! The food all tasted great. The crab dip with 6 or 8 pieces of toasted focaccia was high quality with real crab not surimi. We ordered the flatbread with chicken instead of pork and it was also very good with a nice crispy crust and moist chicken chunks. The wedge salad was a large piece with crisp bacon, candied pecans, grape tomato halves and a tasty dressing. It only needed some red onion to make it perfect. The calamari were crispy but the portion size was too small and the pieces of calamari were too small so the ratio of crust to fish was too high.

We were told that the pupi portions were large and could easily be shared. This was true and we split the calamari and my husband found it to be too salty. We both had the fresh catch. He had ahi tuna and I had mancha which I was told was like halibut. It was thinner than halibut and reminded me of mahi-mahi. It was suggested to have it pan seared to make sure it was not overcooked. Well, it was a bit fry from being overcooked. I had a double portion of green vegetables which turned out to be 4 pieces of asparagus. My husband's ahi was served a bit more than seared and rare. His sides were 2 pieces of asparagus and a piece of carrot. In essence we each had a small piece of fish and a small portion of vegetables. This was a mediocre meal in a beautiful setting. They need to step up their game.

We sat on the patio but they call the main dining room however it is outside. The host and the servers were very nice on both days helping us choose our dishes and beverages. The first night were shared the shrimp and unui (sp?) patties. They were tasty and slightly sweet but over-charred and the sauce served with them did not complement them very well. It needed a fresher sauce or something with a little kick The first night I Had the chicken Which is actually a tiny little bird I should've known from the name. - pouisson. It was well cooked, but there was very little meat on all of the bones. And also needed a sauce of some kind. The one baby bok choy was a nice addition. Two of the group had the fish and chips it was made with swordfish that night and was very tasty. However, the chips were slightly limp and not hot. No one wanted to return them, but they really were not very good. One of the other entrées was the veggie bowl with seared Aji tuna and it had quinoa at the bottom with lots of roasted beets and other vegetables. It was a very good dish. The second time I ordered the grilled seafood bowl because that night they were offering Oppa as the grilled fish on the kebabs/skewers that were served on top of the bowl the seafood was cooked, absolutely perfectly, and it had pickled cucumbers, pickled red onions, slightly cooked carrots, and then regular cucumbers on top of lightly dressed soba noodles. It was a very tasty and hearty bowl. We also ordered a kale, beet and blue cheese salad for the table, but what came out was their strange version of Caesar salad, which has chickpeas on it which of course we did not want. It took them quite a while to bring the kale and beet salad to the table, however when they did, it was quite tasty a combination I would not have thought of on my own The first night we ordered the passionfruit cheesecake which had a strange chocolate crust that was too thick and a very light topping of passionfruit. It was fine, but we would not order it again. The whole restaurant is a nice change from all of the really overpriced offerings in the area. The food is fresh and tasty and the service is professional and fun at the same time.

We ordered takeout and while waiting for our food, we browsed the grocery aisles and then checked out the surrounding shops. I really enjoyed the Ahi poke bowl. There was this tasty kimchi cucumber on the side with sweet o ions and avocado. The fish was fresh. G got the quinoa and vegetable bowl, topped with roasted chicken. It was a delicious salad with beets, macadamia nuts, kale, and more- and the chicken was nice and moist.

The first time we spent just over $100 for a family of 5, and last night we got out of there for $88. That is a feat in this part of town! The happy hour is unbeatable. $7 drinks and 25 cent wings. Note that you have to have minimum two drinks per person, but they don't have to be alcoholic--we got a cocktail as our first and soda water as the second. The cocktails are quite large, so you can still get the $7 price if you order a soda or sparkling water as your second drink. The waitress was super helpful and let us know that last night! We went for taco Tuesday yesterday and the tacos were $1 each! They were good--not insane but great for the price and hit the spot. The service is great and the food and drinks come out quickly despite being busy. The drinks are standard fare, nothing crazy delicious, but for the price it's great. The food is all yummy. We especially love their chicken wings! Home-fried and lots of meat. All of the dipping sauces are excellent too. We haven't had a bad dish here!
