Have been coming here for days for coffee and the coffee is excellent. A couple days ago I got a gluten free sandwich and asked them if they toast the Gf bread in the same toaster as the gluten bread. They said yes so I asked if they could toast in a pan, they said yes and I ate it and did not have a reaction. But today, I asked for the exact same thing and they said no, I asked for not toasted, and they said if I have celiac everything had cross contact and they could not accommodate. So I said "so don't order anything?" And they said no. I was caught off guard, I could have ordered a smoothie or something but I just couldn't think at the point. So while I am in love with their coffee and they have been friendly, I was sad about how that was handled and that I sat with my group of 7 while everyone else ate. Genuinely shocked at the 5 star reviews. Coffee was absolutely terrible. Probably one of the worst lattes I've had in my 30 years of life. Asked for a remake, rude barista looked at me and said "we don't remake if you don't like it, you can go up to the counter and buy a new drink" i was shocked, absolutely 0 customer service but i guess that's what you expect from a 19 year old barista. As someone that also works in customer service/restraunt industry, I truly wonder if the owners would rather have customers leave unsatisfied leaving a bad review or just remake a latte? But hey, support small businesses right? Added back a star because the bagel was average. Total cost for 2 people was around $50 for breakfast bagel and lattes. We've got up Java several times while in Poipu, located right in the heart of the shopping area. They have a beautiful tree covered patio area. I had the cold brew, as well as the açaí bowl(twice). I found this to be one of the better coffee spots in the area. I had the maui mocha, which is a mocha with a hint of coconut. I liked how the coconut flavor didn't over power the coffee. Mae to order so it takes a bit as post sign warns you, but everyone agreed it was totally worth the wait... fresh, appealing presentation and man the coffee is wonderful too... the only thing is more umbrellas for those quick and hard rain fall while you eat... otherwise the ambience was totally Hawaiian... laid back and very relaxing... would definitely recommend this place to anyone. The lavender matcha was floral, creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness, while the iced coffee was smooth and refreshing. They were exactly what we needed to cool off before heading to the beach. The vibe at Java Kai is fun and welcoming, and the staff was super friendly and efficient. The avocado toast was SO GOOD. Avocado was super fresh and paired so well with how they seasoned it with radish and red onions. The cold brew was also solid. Other locations either had too much granola or limited fresh fruit options. Java Kai's, coconut crème and toasted coconut was so well balanced, and the perfect amount of fresh made granola. Came to this coffee shop the first day I was here with family. It was fine. Came back again the following day with the family and the cashier convinced me to get coconut milk. Tried it and did not like my drink. I kindly asked if they could remake it and gave my drink back and they said they can only fix it by adding regular milk and that it was my fault for ordering it with coconut milk.
