Very solid coffee in Kōloa Town. The cafe itself was very cute with ample seating and nice music playing. I ordered the iced MacNut latte which I give a 4.5/5. I would ask for it half sweet next time. We also tried the Maui Mocha (3/5 stars) which was also too sweet for my liking, but had a strong coconut flavor. The service was quick and friendly. Overall, worth a stop on vacation. But, just know the coffee is sweet and on the pricier side ($21 for 3 iced coffees). read more

We ordered the Pineapple French Toast, Avocado toast, and limeade. My family and I loved it all!! The pineapple french toast was the star of the meal with its fresh pineapple and creamy whip on top. It was soft, warm, and delicious. Limeade was perfectly sweetened and added the perfect addition to the meal. I did a pick up order and added in the comments I would like an extra cup with ice so I could split a smoothie for my kids. They included an 18% gratuity and I added an extra 20% on top of that, I tipped over 40$ on this order. When I got there to pick it up they said I had to get back in line and pay extra for the cup with ice. They were incredibly rude. Next time I'll pay for that cup of ice and tip far less. read more

Love it! The ambiance is amazing ... and the servers are all incredibly friendly! But most importantly the coffees are fantastic! I got the iced Maui mocha. I don't usually do coffee with sugars in it but it's vacation and I love coconut. Soooo good and not too sweet, but I think people who don't love coffee would also love it! read more

Commenting on two locations. Kapaa was my first introduction to Java Kai. I had an espresso. Exceptional! Un fortunately, they didn't have whole beans to sell. Passing thru Kōloa, initially was going to buy some single fin whole bean. We also came hungry and looking for lunch. We bought chicken club w/ potato salad and a peanut butter cookie. Java Kai did not disappoint. The sandwich was amazing and potato salad was the best I've ever eaten. It was made with the purple sweet potato. In terms of service, nothing but aloha and excellence. Meh - food was subpar - cinnamon roll tasted old, breakfast burritos had massive potatoes in them with little seasoning, and the caramel brownie was way too sweet. Servers seemed a bit annoyed we were there. Maybe getting there right after 6AM is not a good call. Other people had to wipe water off their own tables. skip the food just get coffee! Cool set up, cool area and nice seating. Coffee was really good. Acai bowls were gross--tasted like freezer burn and had a clump of ice chips in the middle. The granola was really good but the fruit on it was gross too. They were really pretty though lol just gross and not cheap! I was excited about doing a quick breakfast pickup. Got here and had to stand in line for my drinks to be prepped. I guess that way my food could get good and cold before I got to eat it. I don't think they should notify that your order is ready unless the whole order including the drinks are ready. On their website it says skip the line when you order online, but that's clearly not true. read more

I am pretty turned off by the fact that they charge an automatic 18% tip for online orders. We tried this place for the first time and I wanted to skip the line so I used the QR code to order. To my surprise there was a mandatory tip just because I wanted to not stand in line. On top of that, it gives the option for an additional tip. The coffee was not great and food was mediocre. I ordered a hot matcha latte with oat milk, and the matcha already comes pre-sweetened per the barista. It tastes very similar to Starbucks matcha, not horrible but not great either. A little too sweet for my liking and not enough of the matcha flavor comes through. The color also wasn't the correct shade of green for good quality matcha, but I'm someone who likes to make my matcha at home and rarely find ones at coffee shops that I actually like, so take my review with that in mind, if you're a casual matcha drinking then you would like their version. It doesn't dry your tongue out or have a bitter taste. The following day I decided to try their coffee and ordered a hot vanilla oat milk latte. It was just okay, the espresso is a little more on the acidic side and I couldn't taste any vanilla flavor. Definitely not the worst latte I've had in Hawaii, but for the cost of lattes nowadays, I wouldn't come back to try more of their menu until I try other local coffee shops first. Pros: Plenty of parking right out front, good amount of seating inside, clean bathrooms, wifi, they sell their coffee beans and merchandise including shirts and hats which are super cute, there is also a small shop inside the same building that sells clothing/candles/bags/etc and the store employee is super nice

Not in the coffee, not in basic hospitality. You can teach someone to smile. You can teach them to answer a question without contempt. Nobody bothered. Average coffee, worse service, priced for people who won't be back anyway -- and given the volume of visitors, that model probably works fine for them. It won't work for me. I also tipped 20% because I truly believe in taking care of people who work in the service industry. We also tried the katsu musubi and the fried musubi, and all three dishes were absolutely delicious. We've visited both locations, and while the food was excellent at each, the Poʻipū location lacked the warm, welcoming spirit you'd hope to experience while visiting Kauaʻi. That said, much aloha to Kauaʻi. We had a wonderful trip and can't wait to come back.

A little too sweet for my liking and not enough of the matcha flavor comes through. The color also wasn't the correct shade of green for good quality matcha, but I'm someone who likes to make my matcha at home and rarely find ones at coffee shops that I actually like, so take my review with that in mind, if you're a casual matcha drinking then you would like their version. It doesn't dry your tongue out or have a bitter taste. The following day I decided to try their coffee and ordered a hot vanilla oat milk latte. It was just okay, the espresso is a little more on the acidic side and I couldn't taste any vanilla flavor. Definitely not the worst latte I've had in Hawaii, but for the cost of lattes nowadays, I wouldn't come back to try more of their menu until I try other local coffee shops first. Pros: Plenty of parking right out front, good amount of seating inside, clean bathrooms, wifi, they sell their coffee beans and merchandise including shirts and hats which are super cute, there is also a small shop inside the same building that sells clothing/candles/bags/etc and the store employee is super nice

I tried a bunch of highly rated spots around Poipu and kept having that same experience where you take one bite and immediately think, "Oh... this is for tourists." But JoJo's? THIS was the closest thing to home for me. The ice was actually soft and fluffy like real shave ice should be, and the flavors tasted nostalgic in the best way. One bite immediately transported me back to hanabada days. Also, after I rolled up in muddy-ass clothes, sis working there took one look at me and hit me with the kamaʻāina discount without hesitation . That honestly healed something in me. No questions asked. At that point I knew the shave ice was gonna be good because locals can sense when someone grew up eating shave ice instead of "shaved ice." 10/10. Bumbai I come again.

Everything was fresh and delicious. Great spot to pick up some poke while in town!

We absolutely loved Java Kai during our week-long stay in Kauai! We ended up visiting five times because the coffee and food were so good, we couldn't resist coming back. The Mac Nut Latte and Maui Mocha are both incredible - so delicious and perfectly crafted! My brother, who's usually a picky eater, loved the breakfast burrito, so that's high praise! The pastries are fresh and delicious. The outdoor seating is perfect for enjoying the beautiful Kauai weather, and the vibe here is just right. The service is top-notch, too. Even at 7 AM, the staff is super friendly and welcoming, which is a great way to start the day. We'll definitely miss this place and can't wait to return on our next visit! Highly recommend to anyone looking for great and affordable coffee/breakfast spot. read more

Java Kai - Tropical Coffee Vibes in Koloa Java Kai is a Kauai coffee staple, and we were excited to visit their Koloa location while staying on the South Shore. This coffee shop perfectly captures the island vibe, and the tropical atmosphere makes it a delightful spot to relax and enjoy our drinks. We ordered the Thai iced coffee and the mac-nut latte with almond milk, and both were delicious! The Thai iced coffee had just the right sweetness, while the mac-nut latte was smooth and nutty--a must-try for macadamia lovers. The weather was terrific, and sipping great coffee in such a charming setting made for a perfect morning. This place is always a highlight of our visits--consistently excellent! The espresso is so good we couldn't resist buying a bag to take home. I also tried the macadamia latte, which was flavorful but slightly too sweet for my taste. The only disappointment was that our favorite Lilikoi cheesecake wasn't available this time--just another reason to come back soon! The atmosphere is fantastic, and the staff are always warm and welcoming. Definitely one of our favorite coffee spots on the island! read more
