The service was quick and well executed. The food is amazing, and a nice atmosphere to sit and enjoy it all. I highly recommend this place.

My best friend and I stopped in for a quick bite and coffee and enjoyed everything. We shared the Portuguese sausage sandwich. The smokey romesco was a great touch. We had an iced Mac nut latte and a dirty iced chai. Both were super good. You could tell they were going to be good just by the color! 10/10 recommend Kai Bar and Java Kai next time you are looking for a good coffee spot!

Ordered the blended Mac nut latte and iced Mac nut latte, it was delicious it reminded me of Dutch bros macadamia but more flavorful and creamier. Also had their banana bread. Thought it needed to be more moist but it had good flavor . McKenna was the one that helped us at the register and she was great. Really friendly and had a great attitude!the place was very clean. They sold some merchandise also. Will definitely come back when we're in the area

I went here many times during our trip--the food was delicious and the drinks were perfect every time. I really enjoyed the strawberry matcha and the coffee. I tried as many drinks as I could, and every single one was amazing. The Wired Monkey ice-blended drink was definitely my favorite! Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

Weird place. We came by, took the menu and once we were ready to order, cashier told us that today they have limited menu only. But she saw that we took full menu right in front of her. Why she didn't say anything? Then she gave us number and said that they will bring food to us. They did, but not the coffee (she didn't say anything about it). Guy who brought food said that coffee is at the corner and he will bring it, but he didn't. As for the food, I didn't expect pesto to be white, but that's fine. It was too much anyway for the toast - too fatty.

Cool little spot! The line was so long we opted to order online and had our food and drinks in 15 minutes. Coffee is amazing, hot tea too. Our food was really, really good--French toast and breakfast burrito.

My favorite cafe of all cafes Ive ever been to. They have the best menu with so many food and drink options you can't go wrong with. During the fall they have a speciality drink menu and I tried their iced rise of the chai which is pumpkin spiced chai with espresso. It's absolutely delicious. Their iced matcha is also tasty (I added their banana breeze syrup). The lava glow smoothie is A1. If you want a savory sandwich get their housemade portuguese sausage and egg sando, it's yummy!! Always great service here and plenty of seating inside and out.

This was our first visit to Kai Bar in Kilauea after having been to the Java Kai and Kai Bar location in Kapa'a on this trip and our previous one in 2016. We loved our experience enough to come here from our condo in Princeville a total of three times, which happened to fill up our punchcard just like our visit in 2016 in Kapa'a. :) The coffee is great, but if you want food, go for the Surfer Girl sandwich, just like just about everyone says. It is likely the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had in my life, and I don't say things like that lightly. So tasty. We used our completed punchcard on one of the expensive smoothies, and we loved it. The service is friendly, and they have a light, bright environment. There's a sufficient number of tables inside and out. If you sit outside, they helpfully provide water squirt bottles so that you can use them to shoo the sometimes aggressive feral chickens away from your table. (We didn't have as much trouble with them here as we did at a restaurant across the street that doesn't have squirt bottles, so perhaps the chickens have learned where they can go and not get "shot." Ha!) Kai Bar isn't cheap (and neither are very many other coffeehouses), but as we can attest, they are worth the visit.

WOW, went to this place 2x on our trip and ordered the same thing both times (it was that good). will definitely be going here on my next trip to the island

I stopped in here for a little coffee pick-me-up in the afternoon. It was so cute inside and they didn't have a line so I was able to order right away. I decided to get an iced chai latte and it was good! The space was calm and the staff were friendly.

Iced Shark Bite - Small (espresso shots quite under extracted. For the aesthetics, not for the sour latte)
    Kacie D.

Impressive menu. Unimpressive service and espresso. Looking forward to try the original location. What we got: I got a small iced shark bite and my bf got a breakfast burrito with sausage for $31.51. Even for Kauai, that is an extremely steep price tag for such mediocre - at best - quality. I had quite high expectations since there are multiple locations on the island, but the espresso was so under extracted & the raspberry syrup didn't help the sourness. The burritos had great flavor, but it was soaking in oil that the tortilla had partially fallen apart. We turned the burrito into a bowl, but for 20 something odd dollars...mm..yikes. Atmosphere: Beautiful. Extremely roomy and tastefully designed. Service: It took them longer to make my coffee than a whole burrito. Burrito took about 10-12 minutes which is understandable. However, my latte took nearly 20 whole minutes? There was only one couple who ordered before us and four girls working behind the counter/coffee bar. Four girls - no smiles or greeting by the way.

Of the 3 breakfasts I've had so far this week, this place has been the best. As with anything else on this island breakfast was $50. Best option on the North side when everywhere else is $50 too. Service was friendly. Expect food to take a minute if you order a sandwich or burrito. Bakery items looked delicious. Music could be turned down slightly. With the loud people and hard floors and vaulted ceiling it was loud. Sit outside at the tables if you want chill.

    Surfer girl sandwich

Great coffee, great breakfast. We sat outside, but they also have tables inside. The place was crowded mid morning. I had the surfer girl sandwich. Scrambled egg, spinach, cheese and bacon jam. So yummy! My husband had the breakfast burrito with Portuguese sausage. He said it's the best thing he has eaten since we've been on the island.

That being said, this felt like one of the few third wave coffee shops that exists on the island. I wanted to find an issue with this spot, because I'm always looking for something to be critical over. With the exception of the matcha shortage, they pretty much served all of my needs. I didn't get any pastries, but they looked really good. The decor was great. It was a light wood accented sterile floor concrete look. I gotta say, I love that kind of vibe. The service was great! It was a little busier when we walked in, and there were a few people in line, but it moved quickly, and we ordered promptly as such. I got my standard short iced latte (or an iced flat white), and waited patiently. It came out soon, and I started to sip! Super inoffensive and tasty. It felt like a very middle ground medium roast espresso, so no complaints there! Good stuff, I say. If you want that 3rd Wave experience, this is certainly one way to do it on the island!

It's really cool to see such a niche coffee roaster show up on the most niche island in Hawaii! It's located smack dab in the middle of Old Koloa Town, and it was the perfect place to start our day! We came pretty early after opening, and there were just a few souls in sight. The people working the bar were great, and we promptly ordered and got our drinks. There's plenty of seating, both inside and out, so that was a huge plus! I ordered a haupia foam cold brew, and my friend got a standard cold brew. Both were great, and the haupia foam was light and sweet. I only wish I got a larger size! Coconut, cream, and roasty flavors emanated from my drink, making every sip pretty punchy. My friend was saying how he thinks Hawaiian cold brew, in general, is on the lighter side (in dilution, not in roast). I tend to agree. But, that gives a lot of room to flavor or really just deliver a lot of volume in your drink. Overall, this was a super refreshing thing to have not only in the morning, but also in general on Kauai!

I ordered a hot matcha latte with oat milk, and the matcha already comes pre-sweetened per the barista. It tastes very similar to Starbucks matcha, not horrible but not great either. A little too sweet for my liking and not enough of the matcha flavor comes through. The color also wasn't the correct shade of green for good quality matcha, but I'm someone who likes to make my matcha at home and rarely find ones at coffee shops that I actually like, so take my review with that in mind, if you're a casual matcha drinking then you would like their version. It doesn't dry your tongue out or have a bitter taste. The following day I decided to try their coffee and ordered a hot vanilla oat milk latte. It was just okay, the espresso is a little more on the acidic side and I couldn't taste any vanilla flavor. Definitely not the worst latte I've had in Hawaii, but for the cost of lattes nowadays, I wouldn't come back to try more of their menu until I try other local coffee shops first. Pros: Plenty of parking right out front, good amount of seating inside, clean bathrooms, wifi, they sell their coffee beans and merchandise including shirts and hats which are super cute, there is also a small shop inside the same building that sells clothing/candles/bags/etc and the store employee is super nice
