Didn't realize how many Asian food options available (spices, sauce, noodles, cookies ) etc. We went for some specific items, most we found, and then found some other taste treats too. ABC stores bought them out about 7 yrs ago, so save your receipts for "gifts". We did check out the "shack" outside the entrance to the market to partake in their lunch options. We both bought their beef and broccoli lunch specials ($12). I requested to have double rice instead of the dreaded Mac salad. After waiting almost 30 minutes for our lunch- I received Mac salad instead of my double rice. Although overall a decent deal- the beef was tough, it had ok flavors- but to be honest, I've had better B&B a home (Dallas). Great little local market with more supplies and goodies than you would think upon first glance. Due to jet lag, I keep waking up super early. I appreciate that the shop is open at 0600 with tasty hot coffee, musubi, beach basics. It's all reasonably priced. Yes there are souvenirs and some groceries too. And when it comes to your local neighborhood grocer, nothing says local like the historic Sueoka Market located in the heart of Koloa Town. With roots dating back over 100 years, this local grocery store has that small town feel all while maintaining the heart, hospitality & values dating back to its inception onto the island of Kauai. A grocery store with a concentration of Asian cuisine/products that encapsulates Hawaiian culture, fresh meats, local produce and of course a great selection of Hawaiian gifts, novelty items and Hawaiian Fare are available. I'll admit this is not where we do our regular grocery shopping when we come to Kauai, but we always stop in to look at their selection and usually pick up a few gifts for family back home. This most recent trip, what caught my eye was their amazing produce section. The colors and the freshness of their fruits and vegetables really appealed to me and I recommend supporting this market for all your produce needs. (Check out my pictures below). Although we been to Kauai several times and will no doubt be back many, many more times, I have never eaten at their snack shop located right outside the entrance, but next visit, it's on my list. This was a super great market to grab some snacks and gifts for people. They have a huge selection of souvenir items and things like chocolate covered macadamia nuts. They also had a large selection of shooters. I don't really drink but I thought this Don Julio 1942 shooter was awesome. I also got the lilikoi hichews. When I bought those the lady working told me they only sell those and the pineapple ones in Hawaii. We got both and they were delicious. The vibe feels very local in here. Love that they let me customize my order -- I got the patty for $2, which was juicy, tender, and nicely salty. I also tried the gravy for an extra charge, but it didn't really stand out. The fresh malasadas were bomb -- $1.49 each or $15.99 for a dozen. I went on Friday during their 3-5 PM window, and people were already lining up by 2:50 PM. A lovely little spot for tasty eats. We came here a couple times during our two week stay and found lots of great bites. The single loco moco cup was super tasty and filling, their musibuis were great with lots of options. We've come to this local market multiple times during the many years we've come to Koloa Town in Poipu. lt is such a great one stop market in Koloa to pick up needed items. They have a variety of groceries and prepared food items, as well as local pastries. It's all pricey, but all of the shopping in Hawaii is expensive. Wow, what an amazing market with many things I have never seen before, and in some cases I had no idea what it is... nonetheless very interesting. It looks very much like an old style Hawaiian market where locals shop. It isn't exactly the cleanest yet only because it is showing its age, perhaps. I had a fine time just wondering the aisles and educating myself on the variety of things available. One Filipino dessert pastry looked good so I got it, along with a Japanese ball type confection. I had never heard of either yet quite good. Some of the fruit choices looked appealing so I got a papaya cut in half with lime. Fresh and delicious. If you're in the area skip some of the touristy shops and take a walk through this stor you'll undoubtedly find tseats and interesting items in every aisle. read more

It's a nice market/grocery store packed with fruits and veggies as well as essentials. Service was super friendly and welcoming. Aisles were clean and items were arranged neatly. Cool little market. They have foods, toys, knick knacks, souvenirs, snacks, pies, candies, veggies, fruits, over the counter everyday medicines, water, sodas, juice, chips, etc. The people working here are nice. Very quiet. They have a parking lot right next to them that is designated just for those that are shopping in their market. They are located in a small shopping plaza at the very end of the little strip mall. I saw an open window with a food sign. But they were closed. Not sure if that is something they open up during the day to order food to-go. Will have to check them out during the afternoon to find out. read more

Cool old style market that's part of the ABC chain. (Not sure if this is only a Hawaii' chain generally frequented by visitors to the islands but I believe so). Well I was a visitor to Kauai from Oahu and stopped here to pick up snacks and soda. Selection was better than Big Save up the road. Lots of local style snacks and plate lunches available 8:30-2:00 week days and to 3:00 on Saturday. What I loved, besides the friendly Garden Isle hospitality of the check out clerk was the local (ethnic) cooking items that are often no longer available in regular grocery stores on Oahu. There'sa nice selection of meats if you plan to grill i.e. cook your own. This is a one stop shop if you are staying in an Airbnb or rental condo with a kitchen and plan to cook some meals, and a great place to stop to grab some on the go snacks or late breakfast or lunch before heading out to see the sights of the West side of Kauai. read more

We having been going to Sueoka's Market for years on our vacations to Kauai. Even after the store was acquired by ABC Stores, our feelings have not changed. The store carries a lot of products & foods from the island (Kaua'i Bakery pies, island eggs, cookies, poi, leis, coffee, candy, flowers, etc). The staff are incredible- very friendly , always helpful & knowledgeable. They will also hold items for you. We don't know if their meats are cut on site but we are pretty picky & have always enjoyed them. Outside you will find the snack bar that offers many local favorites. We have only stopped there once or twice - there is always a line. It's a great little store with a long history! read more

We also tried out their hot food deli which you order outside and the food was really good! Portions are generous so we shared a plate. Right next door attached to Sueoka Market is the Sueoka Snack Shop. I was looking for something small but filling to start my day off and stumbled upon this place after going into the market. The menu is pretty extensive and prices were very affordable. There's no seating area so everything is takeaway. My initial expectation would be that the food would be fine but not great. But I was definitely wrong! I only got the Fish Burger but holy crap this thing was sooooo gooooddd!! It tasted like it was just taken out of the fryer. Super crispy on the outside and nice and moist on the inside. This is basically the McDonalds filet-o-fish but 100x better. It's that good. Will definitely return next time on Kauai! read more

DON'T ORDER FROM THE SNACK SHOP WITHOUT CALLING IT IN AHEAD OF TIME! I'll preface this review by saying that I have no real complaints about the food I ordered at the Snack Shop. The main reason for my low rating is the ridiculously long wait they made me go through for a simple order of Shoyu Chicken and a Hot Dog. I waited 40 minutes for my order to come out, and there wasn't even a particularly long line of people ordering. I noticed that a several people picked up fairly large orders of burgers (5-6 burgers per order), and they obviously were akamai enough to have called the orders in before coming to pick them up. This was my first time here, so I wasn't savvy to the fact they seem to have an order management issue here. A shoyu chicken plate isn't like a cheeseburger that's usually cooked to order. You just have to spoon out the shoyu chicken from its warming vessel into the take out container, add a scoop of rice (disappointingly they only gave me one scoop) and Mac salad, and you're done. And while a hotdog might require just a tiny bit more effort to cook, it shouldn't take 40 minutes to do so. The only consolation was that the Shoyu chicken was above average compared to most other local shoyu chicken plates. Not too sweet, not too salty, and just enough of a hint of Chinese 5-spice flavoring to give it more dimension than the typical syrupy shoyu+brown sugar variations that other places offer. Although for $10.29, I wish they at least gave me the standard two-scoop rice, because I ran out of rice before the chicken. And in full disclosure, I must also say that my 7 year old daughter proclaimed that the hot dog was "one of the worst hot dogs ever", mostly because the bun was crumbly and practically disintegrated when she tried to eat it. Bottom line: The food at the Snack Shop seems pretty good, but their order management needs a lot of work. Call in your order so you can avoid any unnecessary waiting around for your food. read more

Excellent market with all the necessities one needs while traveling. We were able to get groceries for our stay in Koloa. From fresh produce to bread and yummy local snacks this place can't be beat. They even have ranch and ketchup (a must while traveling with a 3 year old ). We went back a few times to pick up little extras. The snack shop in the side sells Excellent poke bowls too! Much better than a few we had in dine in restaurants at a fraction of the price. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well. This place is A true Gem! read more

Good food for really reasonable prices. I don't think you will find anything cheaper on Kauai! Tried their deluxe fish sandwich and it really hit the spot. The deluxe vs regular gives you tomato & onions (and they will grill the onions if you like) and it is only around $6! There our 2 good size pieces of fried fish in the sandwich. Also, got the small loco moco bowl that was about $5 which was also pretty tasty. The snack shop is in a stand just outside the market. Prices at the market were good as well. I bought some Hawaiian flavored salts for souvenirs. It was my first time visiting Old Koloa Town and it was so cute. Love the retro vibe and all the small shops and places to eat. Close to Poipu beach if you are in that area and want to grab food to take to the beach. read more

We went to their snack shop, located just outside of the market. It smelled so good that we could not resist. Lots of people had called in their order in advance. Seems like the way to go except you still have to line up to pay for your food. The loco moco bowl was sized. It looks like a ton of gravy but they like the rice on one side so you need to mix it up before you eat it. Eggs ordered as you desire. Burger patty is below the gravy. Enjoyed this a lot. I love trying loco moco from every place that has it on their menu, regardless if I'm in Hawaii or not. Also got the chili rice bowl, which was slightly smaller than the loco moco bowl and the chili had a nice kick to it. If I had to pick a place to grab a quick and cheap bite, I would look no further than Sueoka Market. With a mix of Hawaiian and American foods every option is delectable and for a good price. I bought 2 burgers, fries and spring rolls. There was not 1 complaint about any of what I purchased. And all were a reasonable price. The staff was very friendly, able to answer questions and adjust our meals to order. And with being a little shack next to the market it was very convenient.
