Being that it was a little more humid this last visit., when we came across Lana's Cafe, we were extremely delighted to enjoy some shaved ice with the fam. This small mom + pop spot is just what Kapa`a needs! I mean c'mon... Beautiful Shaved Ice with optional Tropical Toppings... Fresh-Ingredient Hawaiian-Style Smoothies... Homemade Banana + Mango Bread... And on top of that... A mini fruit stand with local tropical fruit and Kauai honey to peruse and enjoy during your trip. The gentleman who assisted us was very gracious, maybe one of the owners? They do have a few benches on the side of the building for you to sit and enjoy your treat and get out of the sun. What a great local spot! The shave ice was one of our favorites on the island (the sunrise flavors with sweetened condensed milk 10/10). They also offer fresh local fruit including sugarloaf pineapple, which is a must try if you're in Kauai, as it's unique to the area. You can purchase the fruit cut up for you or whole to take with you. They also make fresh smoothies and sell locally baked mango bread or whatever pastry is in season. The service is quick, the owners are amicable, and it's a cute little corner spot to sit and have a treat. We'll miss Lana's cafe! read more

We stopped by here once while we were out shopping because my youngest wanted to try coconut water from a coconut. She said it was good, but we ended up sharing it, which was fine by me! I loved it! Nice and chilled, they didn't take a machete to it, like the stands by the street do. We stopped by here again to get some shave ice on our last day in town. It was the perfect way to end our last day. They have a couple picnic tables available and beautiful fruit and breads for sale as well. Service was friendly and efficient. read more

I badly wanted to try this place before I left from the island and I'm so glad I did. We saw so many reels about this place and I got the shave Ice and my husband got the smoothie. Both were so good! My husband said he was happy he got to try the smoothie and has no regrets doing so. Although I will say... this was one the best one shave ice I had on the island. The perfect amount of flavors and would want to try different ones or even make my own. If we're hadn't eaten lunch before or even we were leaving, we would have tried their fresh bread that they had just made. One of the great pleasures in food is eating seasonally and locally, especially when the local place is Kaua'i and the local food is tropical fruit! I saw Lana's while driving through Kapa'a and made a mental note to pick up some fruit during my stay. I was so very happy that the woman behind the stand asked me when I wanted to eat the fruit so she could chose the perfect ripeness. The mango was the best I've ever tasted :) The fruit on the bottom right of the picture is called an egg fruit, and since I've never tried one before I got one! The interior has seeds that are inedible and the flesh tastes like cooked pumpkin. I didn't enjoy it raw, but I could see making a delicious dessert or custard pie with it. There are so many varieties of natively grown bananas in Hawaii, that I wanted to try them all, but the small sampling I did was a reminder that even a fruit as common as bananas all taste different when they don't have to be shipped or trucked long distances to market. While at the stand I got their coconut smoothie, a rich delicious dessert in a cup! read more
