Joined my Aunt and Uncle in Maui. We didn't realize how early everything closed in Kaanapali and that side of the island. This place was the only one that was open later according to Yelp and Open Table. We were so lucky! We got the last open table and there was live music that was good. We had so much fun! The best part is we were surprised the food we ordered was delicious! The best dish was the fresh Ahi on a bed of sautéed veggies and an amazing sauce. Their fries are nice and crispy. We went with some former Island residents who come back every six months and bring their large family. We often visit Java jazz, and thought we enjoyed it until recently. We went with these friends from out of town to have a good night. All of us wanting expecting to enjoy some music and have a nice time. We shared multiple bottles of wine plus entrées. Later as the owner was cruising the room we thought the he would come by and say hello...Hope you enjoyed your evening! ... But instead , the owner went on a lunatic rampage, spewing all kinds of political crap and directing his anger to one of our friends. He was totally out of line and told us if we didn't like what he said "we could get the fuck out and not come back". He pulled out wade of cash for some reason? to show his manly ? Status? He then began spewing off about his last 3 Ex wives and something about being born from a vagina? We were all in disbelief, staring at each other wondering what the world he was talking about. Obviously, he was out there mentally and does not care about his clients. We were there to enjoy a nice evening out with some good food and music. Needless to say that was ruined.! We will not be back and we will tell others to not go there. And I won't even go into the wild decor of naked barbies in cages and eye opening art hanging from the ceiling. Loved the vibe in here! Cool decor and apparently it's a jazz bar in the evening. Our server Nader was warm, welcoming and very patient as we took a while to figure out what we wanted to order. My daughter and I shared an entree and Nader brought our food out already separated on two plates. That's awesome. Salmon Benedict was good. I believe it was cooked salmon rather than smoked. Still good. French toast was okay. We didn't care for the raspberry on it. Too sweet. Steak and eggs was good. The steak was cooked to my sons liking. Prices were a bit higher than expected. The place was pretty packed, had to notice it was an older crowd (use included), maybe enjoying the retro decor along with the music from back in the day. This was our first meal upon our arrival in Maui! We were going to hit the L&L Barbecue but it was so crowded we decided to try this restaurant instead. The service was super friendly and everyone enjoyed their meals! I had the Loco Moco, pretty good and super filling! My spouse had the BBQ Kahlua pork sandwich which I tasted a bite of. It was not the traditional flavor because of the sauce, but still a good sandwich. The mochas were also good, perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up. We make it a point to at least come by for breakfast when we are on island and the service and quality are always great here. We dropped in tonight for dinner and they were hosting an impromptu wedding reception because of the weather. Our server let us know they had an unusual situation that the 2-person kitchen was trying to keep up with and there would probably be a wait. We appreciated the notice and exacter to wait at least an hour, but in the end we waited maybe 30 minutes after placing our order. The food was hot and as always, very good. my experience yesterday was terrible. me and my family came and ordered sandwiches with fries. We waited over an hour and we were the only people in the entire place. We have a been coming to the islands for over 25 years, and Java. Jazz has been a great place to hang out and have a meal. We have had breakfast and dinners here and have never been disappointed. Last night, my wife had the filet mignon and I had the fresh fish and both were truly outstanding meals full of flavor, and her steak was as tender as can be. The service is awesome, the ambience is truly funky, but clean, and anyone saying that the place is dirty or smelly is just not giving a proper critique. The walls are certainly cluttered, but the dining area and bar are spotless. The servers go out of their way to make sure you feel welcome and they cater to your every needs. I had the spaghetti lemon pesto with shrimp, my husband had spaghetti and meatballs and we split an order of garlic bread. The food was pretty good, very plentiful (enough for lunch the next day), but I'd probably skip the shrimp next time. this morning was the rudest barista I have ever had. we went there for latte four times and a nice older man made our drinks. today a younger dark haired guy was extremely rude. I ordered a large, and we paid for a large. he made a medium. I said I ordered a large and he said "no you didn't". then he dumped it into a large cup. I said, the large has three shots and he said "no it doesn't". I told him the menu says that. then he told me I had to pay for another shot and then I had to get my receipt out to show him I paid for large. he slammed things around and was rude as can be. no one needs that at 6:30 am. The setting is Barbie torture tiki kitch... lots of original art proudly displayed in a hap hazard way, and an incredibly friendly Alejandro took our order. Great dive bar! Love the vibe and delicious food. They had live music playing when we came. The guitarist and violinist were amazing! It was near our hotel, walking distance. There's ample parking. Hubby ordered fish and chips (it was catch of the day fish). Perfectly cooked and seasoned fish. It was crispy on the outside yet the fish stayed deliciously moist and flakey.
