I've been here a few times now and Java House never disappoints. Only today, I discovered they have meeting rooms you can rent! How cool! And very convenient given the location in the middle of Clay Terrace Mall. Do some shopping, stop by for a meeting while sipping some delicious cold brew coffee, then shop some more! I got the Workaholic (iced) today and loved it. For those who like their coffee very dark and heavy, Sumatra is NOT the way to go (according to my husband) - get the Colombian coffee instead. Java House's prices are on the higher end ($6.53 for my iced Workaholic today), but it's worth it! I love the friendly, working vibe in this place, the delicious coffee, and it's convenient location. I really wanted to love this place. The drinks on their Instagram look so good and I loved that it looked like they were all served in mugs if you were staying in the shop to enjoy. I got there and told the man working that I had never been so asked if there was something he would recommend. He didn't seem much interested in helping me out so I just went with a cappuccino. Unfortunately, it was served in a to go cup. I saw most other tables getting their drinks in a glass mug served on a board. My drink was also lukewarm. I enjoyed the contemporary feel of the interior of Java House, as we sat at the bar watching the barista work. I wanna say it has a somewhat hipster? feel to the place that I like. As for the coffee and pastries, very yummy. You can order the specials as a hot drink or a frappucino... I ordered the Tedster and my son had the Workaholic frappucino.. But I made him trade, lol. His was so much sweeter. He said that when he got the Tedster as a frap it was sweeter too, so just an FYI, the drinks are definitely different hot to cold. So if you like them both, voila! You have two favorites in one special! I did try the lemon/blueberry scone headed to and it was tasty, but I might have them warm it more next time. I love it here. Not just because it's in the location where I used to get my hair done (although that does give it a nostalgia vote), but also because it's different from other coffee houses. Everything they do here is cold brew. That doesn't mean you can't get hot coffee, lattes, etc. (Did you know you can drink cold brew hot? Me either!) it's super smooth. As someone who drinks half and half with a little bit of coffee, I found I didn't have to add nearly as much of the white stuff to drink it. You can also buy a carafe and then get it filled. They have lots of little rooms that you can rent for book clubs, meetings, etc. The only drawback here is that there's not a ton of seating. And there's not nearly enough places to plug in your laptop or charge your phone. I am super glad it doesn't smell like hair color and perm anymore. read more

I love me some cold brew!!! Iced coffee or cold coffee all day everyday. I've heard this place is owned by a local in the area and I stopped in to try some coffee of course. I am a big fan of the Vanilla sweet cream cold brew from Starbucks so in an attempt to find it at a local place was nice to try! I let the barista know, but was disappointed to find out they were all out of vanilla. Instead I got a cold brew with some hazelnut flavoring and added my own cream and sugar and woah, the stuff is definitely bitter (so if you like black coffee, this is for you) I had to add lots of love to my cold brew but my guest got one of their speciality drinks. After having tried theirs I could see why it is a speciality drink cause it was delicious! Although I was disappointed with my drink (I couldn't end up finishing it, it left such a bitter taste) I really enjoyed the drink my guest got. Great place to chill, grab a cup of coffee, and even have meetings in one of their private rooms. The interior is pretty spot. Kind of rustic modern and definitely has that modern vibe. The cold brew process makes the coffee much less astringent or bitter, so you get a much smoother mouth feel. Couple that with the nitrogen delivery, you get an even smoother beverage. I had a 16oz Sumatra black. See pic... The interior is clean and uncluttered with high ceilings and lots of seating. Also they have 6 or 7 meeting rooms available. Already planning my next trip back here! I LOVED the space and feel of this coffee bar. I got an iced coffee with the Ethiopian roast (their light roast), SF caramel and heavy cream. It was smooth and delicious. They have a couple SF syrup options which is a huge positive for me. They have a ton of other delicious looking drinks that I can't wait to try once I'm off my sugar-free diet. Service was quick and the women working behind the counter were super nice. I came in around 8:15 am on a Saturday morning and by 9:00 am there was a pretty steady line. This is the perfect place to bring your laptop to get work done. Just as you'd expect from a coffee house in Carmel's Clay Terrace, this place is upscale. That being said, it's not "fancy" per se but it is trendy and actually pretty hip (something maybe not always associated with Carmel). It is sunny and warm, making it a great place to get some work done. There are several rooms available for group meetings (including white boards and large tables for brainstorming and collaboration). There are some smaller rooms available as well that can seat two or three people. Now, the coffee. I tried the Tedster, a salty Carmel dessert in a coffee costume. The coffee was not overpowering. In fact, I would have liked to have more of the coffee flavor come through. But the whipped cream? Um yes...let me have some of that every day for the rest of my life. Get in my belly! All of the coffees are cold-brewed and on tap. The shop has what reminds me of a bar with the coffee coming from taps on the wall. Not a fan of the heavily caloric, sweet drinks? No worries! You can get just a standard cup here. Of course, there are too many other options that are tempting me to try before I go the usual black coffee route. I'll probably try the Hockey Wife next then the Brewski. Each "signature" drink will run you $6, hot or cold. That's a bit steep for not a lot of coffee (more ice and whipped cream than actual coffee in the iced version) but you're paying for the taste and aesthetic here. I will definitely be back! And now that I've found the entrance to the store (which actually was harder than it should have been), I'll be able to get there even faster. Tip: the entrance is right next to Patachou. My go to is the Tedster. It's a salted carmel cold brew or you can get it as a latte. It is a nice balance of coffee and sweet. The cold brew definitely has a nice kick to it so if you're in the Carmel Clay area and need a pick me up and/or place to work, it's a great place. There was not a strong coffee flavor, but I'm assuming that's because I had to go decaf. My friend also tried a specialty drink and said she liked it but it was sweeter than she prefers. On top of the delicious and unique drinks, the atmosphere is perfect. I got the Columbia nitro cold brew, smooth taste, no bitterness, very enjoyable. Wife ordered the Honey Baby cold: she said it was amazing, she's already saying she wants a second one :). Slightly sweetened and the cinnamon added a nice extra note. Son1: Ethiopian nitro, he said he liked it (not a man of many words :). Son2: Sumitra nitro, a nice bold flavor with a smooth finish. Their flavors are very traditional like caramel, chocolate etc but it tastes good. It was majority oatmilk with barely a taste of coffee and what I did taste of coffee was pretty bad. I ordered a caramel mocha frappe for my aunt and she loved it, so not all is bad! What a gem! The cold brew process really makes this coffee better than the rest - whether you're drinking coffee over ice, nitro, hot, or a specialty beverage it just tastes better. I love the Nitro Sumatran Cold Brew with Splenda Stevia or the Honey Baby with Sumatran Blend. Ordering here is a little different than other coffee shops in that you pick your brew (sumatran, decaf, etc) then how you want it (cold, hot, nitro), then your style (cappuccino, black over ice), but this makes the drink seem extra special for you - and allows countless combos from the most basic to the most elaborate! The staff is so friendly and helpful and prices are on par with other coffee shops. There are snacks available for purchase but they do not prepare food on-site. Coffee can be purchased to-go in a growler - or in retail packs as dual-use pods (pour over ice or use in Keurig) & bottles. Seating is ample and WiFi is available. They soak all of their coffee beans in cold water, which helps cut the acidity and provides a rich, smooth flavor. For food - they have an assortment of pastries and sweets that I think are made in house? They also have options for a sausage breakfast sandwich and egg white wrap ($5 each). I really enjoy this this spot. Great flavor and perfect ambience. We enjoy going here on weekends to just relax. Space is tight at times but I've rented a room for an hour at $15 to have some privacy and work on the laptop. It seems a bit high to rent but needed it for a project. When you use it for more than an hour, they should give you a discounted price for second hour. I could see myself meeting clients here more often if they looked at that kind of a discounted program or rewards point system. The coffee is great too! read more

Such a cool place! Beautiful wood and warm brick decor with lots of pretty succulents staggered throughout. Free WiFi (Sweet!) and a chill not too loud music playlist. They also have a meeting room upstairs that is available to rent. I ordered the iced Workaholic. It's a yummy blend of cold brew coffee, maple, and almond milk. It has faint hint of sweetness with a very smooth creamy finish. Delish! The baristas were warm, welcoming, and super friendly. WOW! Full rift on cold brew coffee craft, a dazzling and clean home spun remodeled barn vibe, feels like a family reunion with all the fun cousins. I loved this from the first step in, very friendly staff, smart and original brews with plenty to please everyone, lots of stuff to try. So much space! There's a group room for quieter (or noisier) studying which is good and well as it got very busy and sparkly with vocal conversations by time I headed out around 5. I wish there was one near me in Lafayette! I went for one of the specialty drinks but suddenly realized upon being asked by the great gal that it wasn't coffee but tea. Switched up, not a problem at all due to the easy going ways here, to a raspberry latte. Look at the photo! That cream, what is that stuff? Milk infused gold? Sitting on top like a thick luscious hat, the whole mix was a tad sweet for me but the cream helped balance it out. I'll definitely be back! Stopped by this morning and it was the perfect pickup on a rainy day. We got the Tedster and the seasonal Bonfire. Both their signature and seasonal come in both hot or cold. I got the Tedster cold with an incredible salted whipped cream on top! We also got the Bonfire hot which tasted exactly how you'd image. Super awesome concept! You first select the type of coffee, then if you want it hot, cold, or nitro. But since this is a new business you would think the employees would explain the different types of coffee or at least ask if we had been in before as we stare at the menu for several minutes. I wish there was a short explanation to each flavor (Columbian, Ethiopian, and Sumatran). I checked in on Yelp and saw the 10% off coupon- sweet! I showed it to the cashier before ordering and then when I got my receipt I noticed the discount was never applied. Ugh. I decided on a flight of 4 different cold brews ($7). The barista wrote down each one on the chalkboard and brought it out to our table. Perfect afternoon refresher to split between the two of us. Now that I tried each flavor, I now know that I prefer the Columbian and Ethiopian cold brews. I would probably order a latte next time and add a flavoring of caramel if possible. We didn't see it on the menu if you could order drinks with pumps of caramel or chocolate but that is typically what I prefer. Also, their specialty drinks sound great! I will definitely be back to try one soon. So overall, the menu board is simple yet leaves out things that the employees should be able to explain without hesitation.
