Super cute cafe! The menu has some great breakfast and lunch items (a couple of health conscious salads), sandwiches, breakfast burritos, etc, and an assortment of pastry. Their coffee just isn't good! Bitter. Super bitter iced coffee, and the iced tea is not drinkable. Their iced herbal teas are good, but the standard "iced tea" is just bad! Come for a cute place to set up with your computer and have something good to eat. If you're a coffee connoisseur this probably won't be your place. read more

Stopped by for our first time visit on our way back to LA. My husband and I were looking for Vegan and Vegetarian options and were successful in finding some very delicious food here. I had the Lox Bagel and cream cheese and my husband had the Avocado Toast Supreme. Both plates were very delicious. And the menu here had so many delicious options, it made it hard for us to choose. We both thought we'd have to go back and order something else because we weren't sure what we ordered would fill us up but we were wrong. I got full off of one side of the lox and bagel and surprisingly, my husband was full off both slices of avocado toast. I highly recommend the iced Vanilla Honey Latte. It's sooo delicious and the slight hint of honey was perfect! My husband ordered their Chunky Monkey smoothie and I think if I went back, I'd get that too. It was very refreshing, especially on a hot morning. This was another adorable little spot that looked like someone turned a tiny house into a cafe. Plenty of tables inside but also cute little patio tables lined up along the front and sides of the sidewalk! I like running from Mission to Pacific Beach on weekend mornings, so I decided to visit this place before heading back. It was a good choice! I got the SoCal Burrito which was made on like a George Foreman grill or something cause it had those nice panini lines on it. I also got one of their seasonal drinks (Maple Oat Latte), which was enjoyable after a run in the morning. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the Barista made my drink wrong, and after telling her what I actually ordered, she didn't make a fresh new drink, but merely just adjusted the one she made. Finally a place that serves real coffee, organic loose leaf teas and whole food ingredients! I recently stumbled across this place per a friend's suggestion. When you order, make sure to get on their customer loyalty program as your 12th drink is free. They have free wifi; inside and outside patio seating. I have had their blood orange loose leaf iced tea as well as their peachy one. Both were delicious. I asked them to sweeten it with honey while it was hot so it could melt uniformly before they iced it. They were more than happy to accommodate my request. Today, I got a 1 shot espresso coffee (I'm sensitive to caffeine) with coconut milk and coconut syrup. Yes, this place serves coconut milk, almond milk and soy milk! Such a nice change to not feel guilty about drinking a cup of joe. This place uses healthy whole food ingredients to sweeten your beverages, unlike Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts where your coffee is sweetened with refined sugars and hydrogenated creamers. I will however, ask for less sugar next time as I found my coffee today to be a little too sweet, but still good. I enjoyed my coffee on the patio with my dog. For starters, I think the cafe is RAD. I love the outdoor seating and the vibe inside. Your drink and food selection is great and has something for everyone! Especially all of the vegan options. Thank you for having those.. i've had the Vegan BLT and overnight oats so far... they're both so good! However.. my reason for 3 stars is for how unsustainable of a business this is. Being located only a couple blocks from the beach... I am astounded by the amount of plastic being used and waste being produced. 1)There are only plastic utensils out for people to grab and use. I've asked if there was metal ones, and I was given one. Can you please put those out instead of the plastic ones so they can be washed and reused instead of used once then thrown out? [If people are getting food to go, just hand it to them from behind the counter] 2)There are only plastic cups next to the water dispenser. Can you please put reusable cups there, as mentioned before, so you can wash them and reuse them? 3)Plastic to go cups are given to customers even if they are dining inside. One, this is costing you money as a business because you are going through so many. Two, again, they are used once then thrown out. Can you stress to your baristas to ask if the drink is for here or to go, and if its for here, be given a mug?? Many businesses are moving into the direction of reducing plastic, especially in the San Diego area because we are right next to the beautiful ocean. It would make your business that much more RAD if you jumped on board and made these minor adjustments. Please consider!!!! Love this place! It definitely gets busy and parking can be rough on weekend mornings but the buzz is worth the wait! My usual is their iced mocha but their cold brew is fantastic too. The inside set up is great- plenty of window seats if you want to people watch Cass St, and also plenty of cozy tables where you can dive into work or a good book without being nudged. Parents/Families Beware: A staff member yelled at me and my two kids (ages 2 & 4) this AM for being loud. I wasn't going to post here and just leave it to an email to the cafe directly, but after my husband chatted with the owner, who had no remorse for the actions of his employee and the barista, who denied the incident happened, I feel the need to get the word out. In lieu of explaining the whole thing, this is the email I wrote and sent Java Earth an hour or so after the incident, that I assume will fall on deaf ears: "I was yelled at this AM. Well, me and my kids (ages 2 & 4) were. Yes, it was before 8, yes they were louder than usual, but I was trying to balance getting in line to order and get out of there, and quiet them down. It wasn't crowded yet and relatively quiet, which definitely highlighted the volume of my kids, but also the booming "heeeeeeeey" from the male barista. Followed by "inside voices" and other grumblings. Of course this caught the attention of anyone and everyone in the place. The cashier looked taken a back, but didn't say anything. It was so awkward and uncomfortable that a random woman I've never met came over to help me. I searched for something to say to the barista, but again, so off guard I just stared back in either shock (did he just yell at me/us) or defiant complacency (YOU try to control a 2 & 4 year old). I almost just left, but didn't, as that would have created more dire consequences from 2 already hungry/hangry kids. However, I did have a far longer order in mind, but kept it to just two bagels for the kids to expedite getting out of there. What makes this more disappointing is my family is there a lot, at least several times a week. I often come in on friday AMs as a special bagel trip with my son before I drop him off of at school and before I go to work. You'd think that kind of frequency would solicit familiarity, friendly banter and an understanding of my family dynamic. Nope, just got yelled at. At the very least, I'd also hope that a "family friendly" place would either have a level of tolerance for a mother with two small kids and/or the staff with the customer service savvy to effectively, appropriately and kindly communicate a request. At the end of the day, empathy is important and, in this moment, I really wish this staff member had shown it. Where I work, this kind of behavior is unacceptable and would be documented. Sadly, I'm not sure when I'll feel comfortable coming back and am fighting the urge to blast this story all over the place. I've been going around San Diego in search of the best study spots, and this is definitely one of them. First of all, the interior is simple and neat - not overly cluttered and chaotic, nor bare. There are plenty of large tables to work at as well as several comfy couches. While there only seems to be street parking (mostly limited to 2 hours), it's not difficult to find. As for the menu, there is a large selection of food and drinks. I tried the iced matcha latte, and it was just fantastic - no powder residue at the bottom, like at some other places I've been to. The only downside is that since it's located right on the street, you can hear the traffic going by. But even this is not a huge deterrent, and I will definitely be back in the future when I need a good study spot and drinks! :) read more

I've given props to their food and ambiance before. This is the go-to place for North Pb locals for a casual grub and to meet up with people in the hood, from young 20 somethings up to 40 somethings with their little ones (and older). BUT, until today, I'd never had one of their smoothies. SUPER delicious, quick to make it and affordable. I think mine was called the Berry Smoothy and it had apple juice, among other things. Add Java Earth to your list of go-to places in North PB for daily coffee, breakfast burritos / sandwiches (great bagels), smiles (Jess and the girls are always smiling) and now, fruit smoothies. I think the black beans added that "goo" factor that we're all looking for in burritos but can't get without cheese/sour cream. This is my go-to neighborhood coffee/weekend breakfast spot. You can't go wrong with any of the food items there. My recommendations: 1) Acai Works Bowl - This bowl has ton of acai and all the trimmings. It comes with acai, granola, blue berries, banana and strawberries. If you get it to-go, I would get the granola on the side so it doesn't get soggy when you go home. 2) Turkey Pesto Panini - Generous portion. The turkey and the pesto merge well together with crispy sour dough bread. You also get the option of either a side of chips or salad. 3) So Cal Burrito - This hefty burrito will keep you full all day. I would recommend sharing this or don't expect to get hungry until late at night. They also have free wifi and pretty good coffee. I wouldn't recommend the special iced coffee drinks though. I ordered a lavender honey latte one time and it tasted like pure sugar. I couldn't finish it. You can also opt to sit inside or outside as they have a small patio area in the front to people watch. read more

A damn good cup of coffee. I've always driven by this place with the intention of stopping in some day, and I'm really glad I finally did. Their coffee is awesome and the options (including Stumptown cold brew on tap!) are plentiful. Their menu for food was also long, and included bagels, sandwiches, burritos, and even something as simple as avocado on toast. Yum! I chose the lox bagel, and while it was good, the quality of the lox and a somewhat burnt bagel drop this place to four stars for me (along with a less than enthusiastic cashier). They do have free wifi and lots of seating, both indoors and out -- most of it is uncomfortable hard benches/chairs though, as well as bathrooms that are clean and don't require a key/passcode to get in. Very awkward ambiance... walked in to order food & I greeted the girl with a "hi, how are you" & got nothing in return lol. She just stared blankly at me. Then none of the employees, including what seemed to be the owner, knew if any of their items were vegan. Next, my friend brought her own to-go coffee mug and ordered a latte in it; both of the baristas looked at the mug and then at each other with a strange facial expression (like just came in contact with an alien object) & shrugged their shoulders. I highly recommend the burritos in the morning, BOMB, but there are a lot of other and healthier choices on the menus as well. There is a lot of seating inside and some outside that you can just lounge and talk with friends while drinking a cup of joe. They also have a name based punch card so if you don't have to worry about losing your card when you are 2 away from the free one!!
