Beans getting roasted while I was there
Cheryl G.

So many things to love about this local roaster! Lemme start with my Gingerbread latte- I normally go with a regular latte, but I was feeling festive. I asked for the girl that worked at the counter to please only make it slightly sweet. It was absolutely perfect. Just the slightest hint of gingerbread, not that sweet. Didn't overpower the fantastic roast on the beans. She was very nice, she delivered it to me on the patio and even offered to remake it if I didn't like the sweetness level. I could tell the coffee was very much my taste. I went back inside after I finished my latte and talked to the girl at the counter for a little while. She helped me choose a bag of coffee to bring home, talk to me about the flavor, nuances and let me smell them, etc.. She also introduced me to the owner/Roster who happened to be there at the time. He and his wife are from Columbia and all of their beans are sourced from there and then he roasts them for sale locally. He was telling me that he's been roasting coffee beans in San Diego for other coffee shops and he still does that but he opened his first coffee shop in 2018. I truly had so many more questions, but I could tell he was busy and didn't want to bother him, he was trying to finish up the roasts on all of the specialty coffees for the holiday gift packs!

Walking back to my car, I was in need of a caffeine bump...LOL! I had read about Yipao somewhere and when I saw it, I was excited to try a new coffee spot. The young woman working was very friendly and told me they had been open for two years, and the original up in University Heights has been open for eight. I ordered an iced latte and it was perfect! Cako and I sat out on the patio and just enjoyed the afternoon. I also bought some beans that the young woman ground for me. I brewed it this morning and have to say their Finca Samaria is very, very good! Cako approves!

Had some great coffee and a danish that changed my life here! I tried a cold brew and a raspberry danish on my visit here and they were delicious. The danish was so so good it made sense how every other person seemed to get getting one. They have limited indoor seating but a generous outdoor patio with good options. Great place to stop for a cup or snack in PB!

Waffles de yucca with guava and a cortado - March 2025

Came on a Sunday morning early and the barista was phenomenal. He was quick and kind and brought out my waffles and Cortado to me as I sat on the patio. I love the Colombian coffee at Yipao and the cassava waffles with guava jam were yummy too (Waffles de yucca). Inside is a smaller space with high top seating but the patio was lovely and had several tables and seats.

I'm still dreaming of this coffee. I was staying in PB for a month and this was next door. I was on the hunt to find the best coffee in PB, and believe I found it here. I tried a variety of drinks, and none were a miss. Try the strawberry latte!! I was skeptical but it became a favorite. The service was amazing, and they were so kind each time. My dog also was a huge fan because every time we went in he was greeted with pets and a treat. They gave a cute patio where people were often sitting outside working. Everything about this shop was so great. Dreaming of the day I return to San Diego, and I can make this my first stop.

Dear Yelp Community, Nice corner location, good ambiance, good dirty chai latte, and friendly staff. Well wishes. Sincerely, Anna

Small and cozy shop. The workers are super nice! Parking may be hard to find since it's in a busy area of PB. Ordered a regular iced latte and wasn't suuuper impressed. It was a bit too acidic for my liking and the milk didn't really add a good creaminess or flavor. Glad I finally got to try it though since it has been on my list

Roaster and interior

Yipao Coffee has been on my list to try for a while now. Luckily, I was in the area and finally got the chance to try it out. There seemed to be a small pour over event today so the workers were quite busy (maybe a little overwhelmed). One guy at the coffee bar, he seemed to be stretched thin-- but honestly I didn't mind waiting! The interior of the place is cut in half. On the left side, the yellow coffee roaster machine was doing its thing. Crates and bags lined against the wall by the window. The right side was where we stood in line. The menu was displayed on a screen as well as a laminated paper by the pastries. I ordered a seasonal drink: the iced strawberry latte. This came out reasonably quick. And it was a tad too milky for me. I wish there was more emphasis on the espresso because I feel the flavor notes could have been really good. The strawberry, I think was a syrup-- it was very subtle and more tart than sweet. 6/10. I'll definitely come back to give Yipao another chance. Maybe try one of the other specialty coffees -- The place was pretty cool. Good prices and I loved the interior/exterior. The color of the outdoor chairs and umbrellas screamed sunshine, warmth, and happiness. They had a good amount of outdoor seating! Will be back to try them again, if you're in Pacific Beach I recommend coming here. Also it's less than a minute walk from Hoboken Pizza & Beer Joint.

A fantastic coffee shop focused solely on Columbian coffee beans. I came in both to buy beans and get a cup of coffee, and in selecting beans the barista was really helpful in asking questions about what kind of coffee I liked and how I liked to brew, etc. My black coffee and the beans have all been fantastic. The indoor space is small, but there is plenty of patio seating. Great spot!

Amazing coffee. I had the Cortado, and it was smooth and rich. They offer a nice outdoor patio and some inside seating. Hot and cold espresso based beverages are available, not to mention their house cold brew l. They offer a variety of Colombian and Peruvian baked goods, including baked goods from Hommage Bakery. Super friendly service.

Cool place, loved the vibe. Seems very authentic. Ordered the mocha and it definitely was heavy on the milk compared to actual mocha (as you can see by how white it is in my pic)

Cool coffee at Pacific beach. Rolled in around open on a Sunday morning. Seating options were limited inside, some outdoor options available but not much of a view. The coffee was delicious, sourced from Colombia, roasted in house. I ordered an Americano. +75c for almond milk is never cool. Probably a better shop for high quality grab n go coffee vs to spend time and chill.

People were so so nice! Got a juice which was very sweet but delicious. On the pricier side but fun to have something different.

TRIDENT COFFEE @ PACIFIC BEACH…read more Parking is available through street parking only, as there isn't a dedicated parking lot for this café. I'd recommend looking for parking in the nearby neighborhoods or along the streets in Pacific Beach. It can definitely be a little difficult to find a spot, especially during busy times, but the nice part is that it's free. I wanted to try this coffee shop because I was looking for a new café in Pacific Beach before heading to the beach with my friends, and it completely exceeded my expectations. I absolutely loved how spacious it was. A lot of coffee shops in busy beach areas tend to feel small and crowded, but this place had plenty of room to sit and relax. They have a huge selection of donuts, pastries, bakery items, and coffee drinks, so there are lots of options no matter what you're craving. There are also plenty of tables and a good amount of outlets, making it a nice place to get some work done or stay for a while. The only downside was that when I arrived, most of the seating was already taken. The only open seat was this cozy little hanging chair tucked away in the corner, but it happened to be right next to the bathroom. It was comfortable, although not necessarily the ideal location. Other than that, I really loved the atmosphere. The café has a bright, vibrant feel with large floor-to-ceiling windows all around, which let in a ton of natural light. It was also fun to people-watch while enjoying my coffee. Overall, I'd definitely come back the next time I'm in Pacific Beach.

They have merch in the middle of the shop. We had one person in front of us order one drink. They received theirs within 5 minutes of ordering. Our two cold brew drinks took 15 minutes. I could understand if they were pulling shots for lattes but they have the cold brew on draft and once the employee starting making the drink it took her only a few minutes. Not sure if they have a staffing problem. There was only one staff making and taking orders. One staff walked to the back when I came in and I never saw them again. Tried: Cold brew with creatine collagen cold foam and a cold brew with cognitive mushrooms and milk. Both were $7.99 each. The drinks were fairly small for the price and taste was just okay.

Inside is filled with plants since they are inside Terra Bella Nursery with a wide selection of plants trees and more. Spacious and good vibes for the tables and seating in various spots. They have an extensive menu with matcha or espresso and even non coffee options. Pastries in the display case and the real winner was the breakfast burritos from the food truck outside. You order at the register then go outside to grab them. Loved the giant disco ball too inside the nursery. 5/5 would come back.

You're also met with lots of crafts, such as stickers, postcards, candles, etc. There was a line when I came. Not particularly long, it went by pretty quick because I got distracted from all the goodies while standing in line. I ended up getting a El Jefe latte (brown sugar espresso) to start, and it was pretty good! Above average and was easy to drink, not too acidic. The brown sugar syrup was okay, I'd get something else the next time. Wait times were pretty long, but the chance to walk around and see pretty flowers, rocks, and plants make it not such a bad thing at all. There are a few tables, but there weren't enough for my party when I went in the late afternoon (5pm-ish) Plenty of parking, and cafe employees are extremely sweet and cheerful. They say green vibrant plants bring your high cortisol levels down. Would def recommend if you're in search of a new cafe. If you're coming from the airport, it's not too far and you can squeeze in a coffee/souvenir run!
