We checked in the Kimpton Everly hotel on Christmas Day 2021 and craving for food. The JaneQ restaurant is just conveniently located at ground floor so we decided to give a try. We ordered the holiday special which includes prime rib roast, mashed potato with corn and asparagus, also ordered roasted Brussels sprouts. The prime rib is medium cooked, pink in the middle and very juicy. The mashed potato is creamy and garnished with sweet corn. The roasted asparagus and Brussels sprouts are fresh and well seasoned. The only complaint is the prime rib is a little too salty. Overall we really enjoyed the Christmas dinner! I'd like to try other dishes if stay longer. read more

We came by Jane Q's before a show at the Pantages. It's walking distance from the theatre. Ambiance: The space is really cute, bright & open. I love the floor to ceiling windows and overall decor. Service: The staff was overall friendly, but seemingly disorganized. After the first few dishes, the staff removed our plates and silver-wear, after serving us more food, we had to ask for plates. Then we had to ask for silver-wear. And despite the fact that there seemed to have been a good amount of staff around, and we were sitting at the bar, it was difficult at times to get somebody's attention. But, when we got somebody's attention, it was friendly and welcoming. Food: I am pretty 50/50 on the food. We tried the avocado toast, which was a big piece and tasty, as well as the flatbread, on bartenders recco. Both those dishes were delicious and the flavors were well balanced. I'd order them again. Now for the main reason I am giving 2 stars. The charcuterie plate. It's actually kinda embarrassing to charge over $20 for a plate of cold cuts, that not only come pre-sliced and packaged, but out meats were not even fresh. You can tell when the sides of the meat starts curling up, that it has been sitting open in the refrigerator. The cheese plate was a bit better, but equally disappointing. Located in the lovely Everly Hotel this is a wonderful place to grab a coffee or a Happy Hour drink or snack. We were able to catch the end of Happy Hour and really enjoyed the flatbread pizza and avocado toast. As we shifted to dinner we opted for the cheese plate and charcuterie board since we were going to the Pantages Theatre and couldn't have leftovers. The $19 cheese plate was a bit sad but OK with 3-ish different cheeses nothing special. The $21 charcuterie board was disappointing especially considering the price tag. It had 3 types of meat and all of them felt like generic grocery store bought deli slices and some toasted bread. Perhaps I need to try their main dishes but I was less than impressed with the shared plates. The staff is friendly and its location makes it a great pre-Pantages spot. I would definitely return for cocktails or Happy Hour but I'm not sure about dinner. read more

They have a please wait to be seated sign but several employees just looked at us and did not acknowledge that we had been standing there waiting to be seated. After finally being seated it took another 10 minutes for the waitress to come over. The next day we came in the same experience, the manager told us the kitchen was closed even though their website says they close at 11 am (35 minutes later). After asking to speak to a manager he decided they could still serve us. Again another long way for Chia and Avocado toast. Both times no one came back after placing the food on the table. This place has the great advantage of being located a block from the Pantages Theater, so we hiked up the hill from our parking garage to try it out. First: the food was amazingly good. Second: apparently the chef who was supposed to cook our order, left the premises instead. This made our food order quite late. The entire staff was extremely apologetic. The food was amazing when we finally got it, and we still made it to the theater in time for the curtain, with plenty of time to spare. I'm going to say this was a one-off, and I'd recommend this place to theater-goers and anybody else in the vicinity. The geography of the place is a bit odd. There's a front door under the big "JANE Q" sign, but it was locked when we got there. I could see people inside, but no customers (which was odd) but I gathered my courage and banged on the door. Someone came to let us in and explained that that door was sometimes kept locked when dodgy people were on the street outside. Apparently the guaranteed way in is to enter from the hotel to which the restaurant is attached. This brings you in one floor above, and you go down a large, public staircase to get to the restaurant. Ok, that's a new one for me. BTW, restrooms are also upstairs in the main part of the hotel. There is an elevator in the back of the restaurant for those who want to avoid the stairs. read more

A female server brought the beverages over, placed a coffee in front of my young daughter and became rude and arrogant when I politely told her the coffee was for my husband. She didn't move it and thinking she must not have heard or understood me I repeated myself. She scowled and berated me in a completely unprofessional, unpleasant manner which was loud enough for others in the room to look around. This is my favorite Kimpton Hotel eatery. It's unassuming when you walk in with both high and low table seating. For breakfast the specials include lattes and fresh mint mochas- yum! Order several small bites such as fried green tomatoes, roasted Brussel sprouts, and beets to name a few and pair them with one of two fire roasted pizzas. Went there before our pantages show. It's one block away so super convenient. We got the dineLA menu. Very affordable price for a lot of food. We got the green salad and meatballs as first course. Then chicken and eggplant parm for the main dish. The meatballs were very flavorful but not too overly salted or seasoned. They were not shy with the tomato sauce that the meatballs came bathed in. The eggplant parm was slightly unique that it wasn't breaded(which was actually good for me). It came in this cute hot skillet. Again, the tomato sauce that came w the eggplant was very flavorful and it was just really well put together. You can't really have BAD eggplant parm but you can tell between an okay one and a great one. This one was pretty high up there. You can use the tomato sauce for dipping the complimentary bread. The chicken was presented really nicely. It came with a slightly tangy green sauce, which went well the chicken. Chicken was cooked really well and not dried out. Maybe I would have liked to see a bit more seasoning on the actual chicken especially since the meatball and eggplant were both so flavorful. The dineLA menu also came w desserts. One was a chefs special. It was peanut butter based. Super rich. Then the other was a brownie. Brownie could have been a bit warmer but it still went well with the vanilla ice cream that it came with. Service was good. We were short on time because we got there kinda late and we had a show at 8pm but they were very accommodating about bringing things ASAP. The place is nice and bright. Cute open kitchen with a pizza oven. They have a full bar. And the upstairs was super cute. I went up there to use the restroom and it was a lounge space. Make sure you walk past the lobby floor bar with the pool table and couches and take the stairs down. What we ordered: - Roasted Sweet Potato: We had them take this away since my fiance is lactose. - Sausage Pizza: A solid pizza choice and it tasted great. Wasn't super special other than the fact that its a large dish that can be shared. - Charred New York Steak: I had the steak medium rare and it was really good! A little pricey in my opinion. The mushrooms that came with the steak were a little burnt, yet it tasted great. I can't imagine what it would've tasted without it being so burned. -The Garden of Greens: This was the best. Of all the things we ordered, I thought this would just be mixed greens tossed with some dressing, but the salad was fresh and great with the steak! Drinks: - Vodka So... Duh: Literally tastes like a kale lemon juice and it was my favorite part of the entire meal. It was super refreshing! - Market Mimosa: My fiance loved this and I totally agreed after taking a couple sips of her drink! Yes it's a little pricey, but without taking financial considerations into account, I'm pretty certain that most people would enjoy having brunch or dinner at this place. The service staff then avoided our table. For the high prices they charge, the service was unacceptable and the food--as other reviewers have noticed--was ok at best. When we inquired about the exceptionally poor service, we got finger pointing and multiple different explanations as to what was behind the slow, poor service. from start to finish, this was easily the worst meal i've ever had in Los Angeles. there were five of us at dinner and not a single one of us left happy or even slightly full. to start, our server was inattentive, slow, and uninformed when asked questions about the very small wine list. we ordered a bottle of wine and a beer and the wrong wine was brought out. note: the place was essentially empty except for us. then we ordered the burrata, tomato and stone fruit appetizer to share. there were literally 3 tablespoons of burrata, 5 very thin slices of pear, and some tomatoes. we were all in such shock as there wasn't even enough cheese for each of us to have a bite -- for $19. we order burrata apps every place they're offered and i've never seen less than a full ball provided as part of the meal. disappointed and uninterested in eating just tomatoes, we ate the three bites and left the most of the rest on the plate. the waitress saw we clearly barely ate any, and not only didn't she ask us about it, she also didn't clear the plate that was pushed aside clearly indicating we were done. we followed that up with the cacio e pepe gnocchi, mushroom pasta, and margarita pizza. somehow the mushroom pasta was completely devoid of any flavor. like we could see the mushrooms but somehow there was zero taste. at all. it was very confusing. the gnocchi was one of the grossest pastas any of us had ever received at a restaurant. the pasta was clearly the cheap store bought kind and the sauce was this off putting, watery, milky liquid with a hint of pepper. between the 5 of us, all of whom were super hungry, we could barely force down 1/3 of the entire dish. the margarita pizza was the only thing we kind of enjoyed bc it was "fine." still overpriced for what you got but we were so desperate for anything edible that we were thrilled there was at least one decent option. not only was this dinner super expensive and a miserable experience overall, but then had to get a second meal down the road after. there are so many amazing restaurants in LA. don't waste your time or money going here. read more

I stepped way outside my box as I only eat my mom's meatloaf but since she is now in Heaven, it was time for a new experience.
