25 Degrees in Hollywood has a difficult chore for itself. It's the only restaurant open at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel during the day (at least the day I dropped in), and it's got an open door to H'Wood Blvd., which invites all kinds of chaos. Still, management seems hellbent on killing everyone's good time by making one server do absolutely everything in the front of house. When I arrived, said single server was taking care of all the people dining in, bussing tables, and also resetting said tables as necessary, while a far-less-than-happy manager type was double-checking what seemed to be quite a substantial to-go order. I hate to be ungenerous, but the circumstances seemed to inspire no urgency or energy whatsoever, as neither the manager type nor the server -- nor, for that matter, the kitchen staff (visibly lethargic through the diner-style pass-through) -- seemed particularly motivated to move things along. Perhaps this situation has gone on so long that their spirit is broken. The result was an utterly insane wait for everything, from ordering to drink delivery to food delivery -- even though the place was 3/4 empty!! It's a shame, because you know what? The food was pretty darn good. The burger is built with high quality beef, seared with a pleasing crust, seasoned exactly as anyone would want (with a good, salty finish), and cooked exactly to the requested temp. The grilled onions I added were an interesting expression: "partially caramelized," I would call them, offering a mild sweetness while retaining their crunch and just a touch of the bite you'd get from raw. The accompanying fries were also top notch: thin and crispy and appealingly kissed with salt and herbs. I cannot complain about the food at all. But GEEZ, the service, and the sense that customers are being left alone because there's just one dude trying to do everything, makes for a less than enjoyable overall dining experience. I have trouble imagining how this place functions when it's genuinely busy. Nor do I see how they add in the extra busyness of tending bar, because they do have very well-stocked shelves filled with top-line liquor. The decor hints at a wry combination of old-school diner and old-school speakeasy, so maybe, like a vampire, the service comes to life after dark. I don't know. We were staying at the Roosevelt so we ended up eating here twice out of convenience. My husband got the burger twice, I got the breakfast burrito and chicken club. Overall, food was really enjoyable. The fries were hella good, they were crispy and thin but not too thin. We also got onion rings one of the nights and those were really good too. We had the same guy both evenings serving us and he remembered us the second time. He provided great service both times and was very efficient. It accomplishes the goal of visiting the center of Hollywood blvd, along with American burger and beer , in the classic hotel Roosevelt. The building is historic and the lobby is cozy, the restaurant has a diner feel but they have updated the menu and we wished they had more burger choices. Service was decent. Came to the hotel for a work trip about a month back. I wish I had time to try more eats but this was good enough to satisfy my cravings after an early flight while I was waiting for my room to be ready. The team is nice and attentive. It has a great bar that stretches the entirety of the restaurant. Food was solid - nothing to complain about here. Lots of options to satisfy your breakfast cravings. The service was hit or miss. The first morning, it was great. Our server was friendly and attentive. The second morning, not so much. They were clearly understaffed and couldn't keep track of the customers or what food needed to go where. The worst thing was that there was a huge hair in my fiancé's coffee cup. When we alerted the restaurant of this, no one even batted an eye. If we had more time and it wasn't pouring out, I would have got up and left. For the price this shouldn't happen. The flavors were there but I thought the burger itself was overcooked for me personally. Nothing that I should have asked for the burger to be cooked medium. Tried the curly fries tater tots and onion rings. Loved all 3 sides of carbs lol - tater tots are always a fave, seasoning of the curly fries amazing and onion rings are lightly coated that you can eat an entire basket! My cousin is a film editor and a movie buff so this is one of those apropos places to take him. That is, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel where the first Oscars was held. This would have been an easy 5-Star rating if not for the service. They were understaffed -- as I was sternly informed by the server. What happened was --- It took awhile for anyone to get our order. My cousin and I had no problem with that. However, when the server came and took our order, I requested to have my wine brought to us around the time with the fries. For a place with a 21-dollar burger, I expected at least to be able to make that request. However the server sternly informed me that they were understaffed and she was not sure she could make that request. She could at least informed me nicely. Anyway, to the management of 25 Degrees, please, please hire more and help that poor lady. (The busboy though, who doubled as the host, was very nice.) On with the rest of the review: I brought my visiting cousin here because he is a movie buff. (The Roosevelt Hotel has lots of Hollywood history -- wiki it.) 25 Degrees serves cocktails and wine. The chardonnay that I ordered was good. It tasted as good as the 25-dollar one I had at Redbird. And 25 Degrees charged much less ($13)! The Check: They included a service fee of 18% on it. For our table of two, they made sure they got their tip. You know, I was still going to tip 18% to the stern server. But I believe the management did not have confidence in their service so they did not take a chance. Restrooms: You can find the restrooms at the Lobby. They are locked though with a digital-keypad lock. Look for a staff-on-duty to key in the code. Summary: My cousin and I still enjoyed our dinner at 25 Degrees. Food and drinks were unexpectedly fantastic. Parking: We parked on this little parking establishment at 1670 Sycamore (around the corner -- please Googlemap it.). This parking place does not have many spaces but since it is not summertime, there were a lot of available spaces. Also, they only charged us $10. However, they close at 10:30 pm. You could also try the hotel's valet parking. The diner will validate and the you will be charged $18 for 2 1/2 hours. If you go past that, the fee goes higher of course. read more

Glad to see this old Hollywood style diner surviving so long! We had a simple lunch here while staying at The Roosevelt hotel. This place was packed all the time. The bar seats were very spacious and comfy. We had half orders of wings and tater tots, scrambled eggs with sausages, side of fruits, a stone IPA and iced coffee. The food was very comforting in huge portions. Our bartender wasn't in the best mood but he still did a great job taking care of us at the bar. Went for burgers after a screening at the Chinese a couple of weeks ago. Our server was fine - it would be hard for them to be bad given we were the only ones there at 10 PM on a Thursday night.
