Everything was fine. Bartender is awesome. We sat at a booth for 2 hrs, paid our bill, then walked to Boardners at 1am. I quickly realized I had no wallet and must've left it at Power House - so walked my way back at around 1:20am. The Door Man, who had previously been a completely chill and nice dude, began screaming at a man behind me to "get the F--- out of here." I turn and see it was a very drunk patron who I recognized had been in the bar earlier. He then turned to me and screamed in my face to also "get the f--- out of here." I came to find out that patron had been kicked out and possibly had altercation with the Door Man Eric. So clearly the Door Man thought I was connected somehow to that random drunk patron. I tried to calmly explain that I did not know that patron and I was only returning because I left my ID/ credit card slim wallet somewhere in the bar. He proceeded to keep shouting that I was lying because they don't hold credit cards there, even though I was saying my entire wallet was somewhere physically in the bar. He then proceeded to say I was too drunk to come in and that I had "bad vibes" and that I was a weirdo and to get the f-- out of here. I continued to try to calmly reason with him, and he suddenly lunged at me as if to attack me - this man has a foot height on me - and I had to jump back off the curb into the street to evade him. I don't like to speculate but I suspect drug use was a factor here. At this point, I pull out my phone and continue to try reasoning - at a distance - but nothing is getting thru - so I go back to Boardners, tell my wife what happened and tell her I need her to try to go in and get my wallet. I followed far enough behind where they he wouldn't see me, but she was in there for a good five minutes, so I got worried. I called her, and then I hear this doorman shouting at my wife. I RUN to the open door where I see him towering over her in aggressive hostility, and I see my WALLET in her hand. We walk away. My wife tells me that they found the wallet where I knew I had left it. When it clicked that this lost wallet must have belonged to me, aka "the weirdo", he told her she was "86'd" there and then called her a "weirdo". When my wife told Eric that she "doesn't come here anyways", he became enraged and grabbed her with both of his arms as if to drag her out. He must've thought better of it and took his arms off when my wife stood called it out, and luckily the bartender was helpful enough to gave up the Door Man's name (hopefully that was an honest answer). I challenge the managers of this bar to review the video footage if there is any that took place outside of the doorway and inside the bar between 1am and 1:45. And to retain that footage.

The woman server on duty did not acknowledge us in anyway and walked past several times . In fustration, I finally went to the bar to order with a bartender directly and was told 'a server would serve us' . I informed the bartender we had been seated for 20 mins and no one had come, I was begrudgingly then served at the bar and paid - tab had the nerve to charge 18 percent service fee. What service?? Once I returned with my drinks to the table, we watched as every new party that arrived struggled to get served or get attention or menus of any kind. The existing parties that were there also did not receive service and the used tables were left unattended to and not cleared. The 2 bar lobby staff that were "working" the floor that night on duty that night need to be fired and replaced with folks that actually feel like working. Unacceptable service. To add to what other people have said, I've also experienced issues with security almost every…read moresingle time I've gone (visibly queer), ranging from friends getting kicked out of the single stall women's restroom for being trans to getting told to wait on the sidelines because someone i went with was "stumbling" and had "dilated eyes". It's honestly a relief to check yelp and see that other people have experienced the same things. In the same span of time I witnessed them pull the same scheme on multiple other patrons. If the issue is capacity, i'd rather them say that then try to belittle or mock patrons by making it seem like they're falling over drunk. I've also experienced a guard threatening to HIT one of my friends when she talked back to them after he questioned her about her ID and belongings for 5+ minutes. This turned me off enough that I haven't tried to go back for a few months, and was hoping that things might have improved in the last few months. Unfortunately, it seems like security has only gotten more unbearable. I understand that a bar off of hollywood blvd might need to be choosy about its clientele. But when two clean, sober goth girls show up at the goth bar for the goth night at 11pm and get turned away for seemingly no reason, it's hard to see how they keep their clientele. I mostly go for Blue Mondays, so I'll post this review for both Boardners and Blue Mondays. I've made a lot of good memories here over the years, so I'm sad to be making this review, but it's genuinely getting unbearable to go here. The place is suppose to be a play on a hotel I guess, but to me it also kind of looked like a haunted house. A bit. Do not imagine cobwebs, ghosts, and Jason props. It was more haunted in color and shape. Like a haunted house that was formerly excorcised of the devil and all his minions and no was in its fixer-upper phase. I guess one might have to look at the pictures to understand where my thoughts went. When I entered the energy was building. But it was such a slow simmer that I felt like Uno would not pop with revelvery. I went exploring after first entering garden, into their main foyare. I saw an upstairs. I was not allowed to go up. Apparently, there was a VIP section. Oh what is up there, I asked one of the staff members and he did not respond. I asked a patron that was walking down the stiars? What is up there? She seemed like she did not want to answer. I said an elephant? She said, heat, it's hot up there. So now I am left to wonder what was up those stairs at No Vancy and kind of irked that I am left to wonder what the flight of stairs held at its end. I was backed in the garden, thinking of what would happen next? I saw a brave soul ask if he could join two to play a game. I did the same and soon I was in a card game with two other people. What was great, is that they had the house rules posted, which were apparently the official Mattel rules. And like for example, I always played Uno in the following way: if you did not have a certain color you ate from the pile till you got a color or another card you can play like the Wild card? But here you only ate one, and if it could be played you could, and if you could not then it was the next player turn. I realized that I kind of wrote an instuction manual. I kind of wanted to delete it, but then I remember when a plate is salted it cannot be unsalted. I played a player who was into the game. I know that people are like why are you so into the game? But when two people are into an ordinary Uno game it stops being ordinary. It does not become a clash of fabled warriors inside an arena with lions and leopards. But it does become competititve in a fun way, where no one tells another to chill just because they want verification of a play that might turn the game on its head. What I thought the Uno Social people did very well was engage us all. They sat down a guy next to us. He became the fourth of our Uno game. Inspired by the staff member I asked someone else to sit and we became 5. We played a few games and had a good time. One of the staff members gave a winner of a round a Love Island expansion pack. Who knew? Saul and I then peeled of that group and went to get some drinks. The drinks at this place were smooth and strong. I got an Uno themed one. I could finish it in one gulp if I wanted too, but I did not, I was not in a race. By this time the place was, in my opinion, too packed by Uno players. It was the kind of packed that if you wanted to stand up you were afraid too because then you would lose your spot and then you would be amidst the crowd trying to find another spot that anchors you to place. The crowded bar made one feel like they were a sardine in a party. And no one likes to be a sardine anywhere. Having no elbow room is a type of torture, not water for sure, but still anxiety inducing. Another Yelper described this place as a human zoo, perhaps I should have left it there too? This place is close, like steps from Hollywood Blvd. So I can see how it can be part of a bigger night. Stop by and if one does not feel the vibe one can bounce to another spot. There are plenty around the areas. But if one gets to here when they host an Uno club that is definetelty the move!
