Firstly, her service was great and she was very friendly which you don't see too often today. She was able to recommend my food with ease and I didn't regret it. We had a fantastic dinner at Hibachi Papi! We sat at the bar, and our bartender, Kelson, made the experience even better. He was friendly, engaging, and gave us excellent recommendations. We ordered Christine's Rose and the Purple Rain cocktails, and both were outstanding, beautifully made and absolutely delicious. For dinner, I had the steak bowl, and my girlfriend ordered the lobster bowl. Both were incredibly fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The atmosphere was fun and welcoming, and the service was top-notch from start to finish. If you're seeing a show at the Pantages Theatre, this is the perfect spot to grab dinner or drinks beforehand since it's just a short walk away. Food: 3 Service: 3.5 Ambiance: 3.5 A very strong 3.5 stars! We visited Hibachi Papi & Grill because we were catching a show at the Pantages Theatre and wanted a bite to eat afterward. It is right by the theater and Hollywood squares, so it is definitely in a busy area and very convenient if you are in the neighborhood. We came after seeing Beetlejuice and it was perfect for a post show meal. When we entered, it was not too busy but there were still a few people inside. We waited at the front briefly before being seated by a nice gentleman. Service was friendly. Our first server was transitioning between shifts, but the next server took over smoothly and got our order in pretty quickly. I really liked the ambiance. It had a red, dark, moody vibe that felt a little sultry and unexpected for being right in the middle of such a busy touristy area. The menu had a lot of tasty sounding options, so it was a bit hard to decide. We ended up ordering the calamari, the salmon and steak combo, and the chicken plate with garlic noodles. The calamari came out quickly and was light, crispy, and very tasty. The sauce that came with it was also really good, so that got us excited for the rest of the meal. The chicken came out next and was just OK. It was a bit dry, but I did really enjoy the garlic noodles. The sauces were definitely the saving grace. We tried the regular sauce, spicy sauce, and garlic butter, and all of them were really delicious. The salmon and steak came out later because there was a mix up and it was initially prepared as a to go order, so it was served in a to go container, which was a bit odd. By the time we got it, it was a little lukewarm. I think it would have been much better if it had been served fresh. The flavors were still decent, but again the sauces really carried the dish. Overall, I would give this place a strong 3.5 stars. Service was good and the ambiance was definitely a vibe. Another cursed location. I'm still all for places like this opening because at least it's not another empty storefront, smoke shop, or tourist gift store like the rest of the neighborhood. But just like the previous spot here (Sociale), this restaurant has no idea what its identity is. First thing you walk into? Takeout ordering screens. So right away it doesn't even feel welcoming. It feels like they're telling you to order food and leave before you've even looked around. Then there's this awkward black leather couch just sitting there, which somehow makes the entrance feel even weirder instead of more comfortable. And then the biggest design fail: the bar is where the hibachi should be. That's really where this whole place falls apart. The main visual centerpiece should be the grill, the flames, the action, the thing people came for. Instead the bar takes that prime real estate and the actual cooking is shoved off somewhere to the side out of sight. So instead of getting the hibachi "show," you're stuffed into an awkward tall booth waiting 45 minutes for half a steak and rice. Meanwhile the whole room is washed in this ugly red neon that isn't cyberpunk cool -- it's more coke-head bathroom energy. And then the check comes and it's $35 for something that would make way more sense at like half the price. Honestly this place should've just committed to being a late-night Japanese Denny's for this side of the Blvd. Make it cheaper, make it casual, keep it open late, and people coming out of shows would actually want to be here. The Latina in me gladly chuckled when I saw the "Who's your papi?" glowing sign the moment I stepped into this new, exotic, stylish-looking restaurant. I couldn't help the desire to say, "Hey, papi" cause it was necessary for the presentation of the place. I felt so entertained and captivated by the interior... the red and black combination is a pleasure sight, for real. I unintentionally came across this place and felt the need to come in because of the way it looked from the outside. I immediately felt the love and great impression from Yuvleen and Nicky, who happen to be the co-owners. Little did I know the establishment had just opened up less than a month ago. They specialize in hibachi classic dishes, offer a full bar for that Hollywood entertainment nightlife and have an outdoor dining patio with heaters. You can never go wrong with a hibachi plate... prepped and cooked by gifted hands. My meal was quality. Most importantly, the steak was tender for my liking. Their sauces are a must "pour and drizzle over your meal" experience. So mf good! I also gave in to trying their ube espresso martini and a 11:11 marg. Both were poured by genuine hands. Overall, my experience was met and fulfilled with the girls being kind, attentive and interactive. Beyond that, I am inspired by their hard work and dedication put into this restaurant. I came here the day they opened with my friend, and we fell in love with the vibe as soon as we walked in. My friend is a Scorpio, so the red and black was very much on brand for him! We love hibachi, and it was so easy to order from the touch screens. The food came very quickly, and we were able to grab drinks from the bar. A vibey, chill lunch or dinner spot perfect for when you want to hang with friends or even just by yourself! The food was also so good. Went in to check out this new restaurant across from where we live and it did not disappoint! I ordered the chicken and filet with garlic noodles and fried rice! Everything was exceptional and the steak was juicy and tender. We also got to try the rock shrimp (I think that's what it was) and it was fire! The calamari was delicious as well! They have plenty of sauces to choose from the Diablo and yum yum were our favorite. They were playing some good music as well and the service from the owners and waitress was on par, we will definitely becoming back often. Came here with my mom before a show at the Pantages and grabbed a seat. The place itself is strange--it took a few moments for someone to tell us it was open seating. Is it a bar? A restaurant? The space itself feels confused. We expected a true hibachi location, however everything is made in the back kitchen. The food was good and you get a large plate--neither of us could finish. The menu is extensive, and if you don't see what you want, they can probably make something custom. We arrived at 5pm. Our food arrived at 5:45pm. Our show started at 6:30pm. You do the math because we were absolutely doing the math, with increasing panic. Some guests ahead of us simply left. Just walked out. I respect that decision deeply and I think about it often. The food itself? Incredible. Hot, delicious, worth it. We inhaled it in roughly the time it takes to say "we're going to be late." The menus were a little crusty, which honestly felt on-brand for the evening's chaos energy. Would we go back? Maybe. But first we're calling ahead to ask: "How many servers are working tonight?" If the answer is "one, and it's their first day," we're eating at the fast chicken place next door. Had to ask server after 50 minutes if we can get an update on food as others before and after us had received food. Picture was no presentable for pictures. Noodles had flavor but weren't warm enough to enjoy. Fried rice was top tier & the warmest on everyone's plate. Happy hour is only $2 off, so a drink at $17 is only $15. If youre going to spend big bucks do not come here. This place is meant for somebody who is fucked up and it's open late for them. No other reason. Despite at least 7 employees working and the place not being busy, four different people walked past us behind the bar without saying a word. I eventually had to flag someone down just to ask how to order. After getting our margaritas, the server walked off before we could even order food. To make it weirder, two people walked in after us and were greeted and served immediately. The saving grace: The Filet Bowls. We tried them with the garlic noodles and brown rice, and another with white rice. Both were delicious and well-prepared. I truly hope they fix the service issues. Understaffed for the location Our waitress was nice but she was busy and there was significant gaps between her stops at our table and we watched as other tables needed her attention but she was both indoors and in the patio. The kitchen is in view and you can see the amount and g tickets in the Queue to two or three cooks. Once ordered for a party of six our food took close to an hour to arrive to the table and it arrived lukewarm. The sprite had no carbonation and when mentioned a different soda was offered but since the carbonation was the issue the coke was still flat. The food flavor maybe good if hot. After eyeing the menu for a while (I go to shows at the Pantages often), my family and I decided to try it for lunch on a Saturday before a matinee show. We picked a booth inside and sat down, but were immediately overstimulated by the volume of the music. As an autistic person with sensory issues, along with my children, it got so overwhelming that my husband asked the waitress/bartender if the volume could be lowered a bit. She said, "Well it's a bar...but okay..." That made me feel terrible, as I can't control the level of overstimulation myself and my child feel in a place with so much happening. What's crazy is, when she said that, not one person was drinking at the bar. She turned it down a little but it was still just too much for my son, even with earplugs, so we moved to the outside area. We had already made our order, so there was no leaving despite how grossly dirty it was out there. Every single table was dirty, seats with food crumbles all over them, and just general filth all over the floor. It was like they never cleaned from the night before because it was only noon!! We picked the cleanest seat area and then realized that the huge plant hanging over the booth had bird poop all over it. It got in my daughter's hair as she struggled to even get in the booth with the plant in the way!! My order came out wrong after having had to correct the waitress twice already. The cost was something I wouldn't pay that high for ever again. A very disappointing meal, not supportive of neurodivergent needs, and way overpriced. We ordered the Filet and Chicken combo with half garlic noodles and half fried rice with veggies. The steak came as ordered (med. rare) and the chicken was moist. Everything had great flavor. The side sauces were perfect: garlic butter, spicy teriyaki, and sweet chili. The bowl is a large portion, so I recommend sharing one plate unless you want leftovers. We didn't want to carry leftovers into the theatre, so we shared a bowl and we were both content. If you are in the area, it's worth a try. The delicious sauce sauces are also wonderful. I had the teriyaki and the Diablo sauce and it was just so flavorful. The food is very well seasoned without the sauce. You have to try the garlic doodles. Warm Ramen with no sauce, garlic is heavily woven into it. It is delicious. When I'm coming here again I'm getting my protein with garlic noodles.
