Wanted to do some work on my laptop and chill at a cafe! I looked up coffee shops and Bread N Butter caught my eye. Located on Hollywood Boulevard near Bronson, this coffee shop is very chill during the midafternoon time. The atmosphere and ambiance of the place gives a New York loft vibes. Open space, cushiony chairs in the center area, a few tables along the wall and a motorcycle! I wanted to hop on it! The barista was a cool guy with tattoos! He helped me pronounce the HOJICHA Latte that I ordered (iced because the weather was hot). I also had to have the chocolate muffin! There's WiFi, restrooms and your choice of metered parking on Hollywood Boulevard or free parking in the residential areas. Just read the parking signs. Love there Match & Croissant! I get matcha and croissant from here every morning. The matcha is real Ceremonial Matcha and the cream foam on top of the Matcha Latte is crazy good! Very bitter matcha, if you are coming for that I would skip this spot. It's also a bit pricey considering how small in size their drinks are. Their avo toast is tasty and I would come back to try their coffee offerings. The space itself is quite large but with very limited seating however in my 2 visits it has never seemed to be crowded so this could be a nice place to study. Nice relaxing place. I had an Americano and a pretzel bagel. The pretzel bagel was pretty good. The Americano was ok. I got it with pistachio milk which I didn't taste too much of and they don't have anything other than brown sugar in the raw to sweeten it with. The guys working there were nice. I was looking for a good coffee spot in the area & was grateful to have come across this fine establishment. It was easy to find but parking can be a bit of a struggle as there's only street parking in the surrounding area. My sister and I arrived just before 10:30 on a beautiful Saturday morning and got lucky with parking as we found someone pulling out of a spot around the corner. Upon entering, the space was nice and open with plenty of seating around a cute Fiat on display. The ambiance is chill & service was quick. We were the only ones in line so we expressed to the employees that it was our first time visiting and he made great recommendations. I ordered the Einspänner which was deliciously creamy and not overly sweet. My sister ordered the cream top matcha with espresso & it was delicious. I'm so glad we found this place. I was looking for a work spot a little closer to where I was meeting my friend for dinner, and Bread N Butter fit the bill. The inside is spacious and gives industrial vibes, with lots of open space and a Fiat (yes, really) sitting in the middle. Fortunately, a Fiat is a tiny car. In any case, when I came in, I mentioned to the barista that the neighborhood (it's at Hollywood and Bronson) is a little questionable, and that there was someone yelling outside (they're not too far from a Salvation Army shelter, I think). He asked if I was sheltering or looking to order something--with the clear vibe that if I were just sheltering, that was totally OK. But I was indeed looking to order, and after some discussion of options with the friendly barista, I went for the Einspanner, which is a cream-topped espresso drink with a dusting of cocoa powder on top of it. It was delicious. The Wi-fi didn't have a lot of stress on it while I was there, but it seemed to work well (and hopefully that would continue to be the case with heavier use), and there are outlets along the wall, covering several tables. It's definitely a pleasant spot to do work, and there's free street parking on the side streets. Prices are fair, especially for the quality. Definitely a winner. Kinda funny that 3 different places in town I have known carried similar names and got me quite mixed ups. All of them somewhat carried 'bread' and 'butter' within their names. That's why initially I thought I've been here while I haven't. The industrial-themed space gave retro vibe, featuring the classic car right at its center. They did carry pastries and made-to-order sandwiches, but the selection was quite limited. Despite the name being Bread N Butter, it's not like a bakery with large displays but good that the meals were served warm. Prolly the only downside was the barista played all roles so it took sometime to get your orders ready. Interestingly they also seemed to be more popular for their coffee and matcha; which was also the reason I discovered it. Their Double Matcha hooked me up serving matcha latte with matcha cream on top. Milk alternative was free so YAYY! The barista would recommend sipping without stirring so you could taste the cream better, which he surely was right. Their matcha latte was overall so-so for me, probably as I had very high preliminary expectation reading all the reviews which kept calling 'Best Ever'. I love this seemingly out of place coffee shop in Hollywood! I read other reviews about it being in a not so nice area, and I would have to agree but it wouldn't stop me from visiting again! There is definitely no parking on the main street so just be sure to circle around to find street parking on the side streets. Loooove the space! It's super spacious and quiet. I do think they could use some more traffic because they have a nice set up and bathrooms available for customers. I do want to note there is just 1 person working, so likely would have to wait a little to order if there are several people, but not a big deal to us since we were not pressed for time. I loved that the drinks were both not too sweet! I would recommend both drinks we got- the cream top americano and matcha! We also got their Nutella banana muffin and omg let me tell you... It was a dream! It was soooo moist and good. I do think it was filled with a little too much Nutella, but who's complaining?? The muffin itself was already really good. This is my new favorite neighborhood coffee shop! I just recently moved to Hollywood and fortunately, it didn't take much searching to find a new regular spot. The coffee and the matcha are top tier. My go-to fave is the vanilla cream top iced latte, and I always order it with an extra shot. It's absolute perfection. I just recently tried the vanilla cream top matcha for the first time and was blown away; it's so good! The team behind the counter is always very friendly and they never miss; the drinks are consistently excellent. The cafe is incredibly spacious, it's never terribly busy when I'm there, and the ambiance is very chill. Plus, my pug baby is always welcome here! Since I'm a very short walk away, I take my pup on a walk every Saturday or Sunday and stop by for a quiet morning coffee. Can't recommend this place enough! read more

A spacious & clean cafe on Hollywood Blvd. There's an actual Fiat in the middle of the cafe which is so random but adds charm to the place. Barista always makes the lattes great :) Tiramisu Latte - SO GOOD!!!! Perfect balance of bold espresso & creamy sweetness. I keep coming back for this. Einspanner Latte - Ok. Nothing special. Biased because the tiramisu latte blows this outta the water lol. Price - Typical coffee prices in the area. No additional charge for oatmilk is a WIN! Pls don't ever change that lol. Parking - A bit difficult since it's just street parking. Roomy and inviting indoor seating. Add two sparkling-clean bathrooms, great internet, and a super chill staff, you could almost forget how sad and run-down it all is outside. I'm a cream top guy, not necessarily a Matcha guy, but they have got you here with the creme top Americano -- it's awesome. Don't mix it and you'll have more than a whiff of cream in every sip. Came here after a hike and the barista was super nice about a big group of us coming in ! There were a lot of us and he managed to serve everyone in a considerable amount of time. As for the matcha itself, it was really good. I thought it was gonna be bitter, but the cream top was pretty sweet, plus they have different kinds of matcha (coffee too) to try from. The price can get pretty high and the cup isn't that big, but it's matcha in LA so that's as much as it'll go down. Definitely recommend if you're visiting LA. read more

I DoorDashed matcha from here because I wanted to try something new. This place claims to use ceremonial grade but it doesn't taste like it, it tastes like culinary grade and is super watery. It has a fishy taste, which only occurs when drinking culinary grade (e.g., Starbucks). I consider myself a matcha connoisseur, and have tried matchas all over California, other states, and abroad. I love ceremonial grade and this for sure doesn't taste like it, unless they just water it down completely. Editing to respond: It's great to hear you use ceremonial grade matcha! My door dash is under a different account so it'll appear as a different name, so maybe the wait time affected the taste of the drink. I'll probably come in one day to try it so it's fresh rather than just sitting around. (Just to add that Starbucks doesn't use ceremonial grade matcha, they use a special matcha blend powder that is closer to culinary grade so it's easier to top off in their drinks). read more

The coffee is great, strong and not overly sweet. The foam top doubles as sweetener which is great because you can gauge how much you want. I want to say I'd come back but honestly the location is so hard to get to that I probably won't again. It's deep in Hollywood next to the courthouse, parking around the area is incredibly hard and worse is that because it's deep in Hollywood, there is a lot of homeless people "camping" around the one block radius. Now when you step inside the store, it's super clean and large and nicely decorated..and the owner is attentive and on top of it.
