Nothing to rave about, but can't complain. They have a good size menu with some things that sounded good, but all the food tasted very basic. The one thing though is the bakery items, like the muffin, was awesome. The restaurant was clean the service was fine. Portions are okay. Jackie's is my go to breakfast place. Have eaten there lots of times, but have yet to have a bad meal there. I ordered the Vegetable Benedict with the Herb Potatoes. Delicious! Lots of hollandaise sauce, fresh veggies, crispy potatoes. My husband was enjoying the Tuna Sandwich (he loved it so much the last time, that he ordered it again). Nicely flavored tuna with fresh veggies, a homemade cookie and muffin. Service is also excellent, waiter kept checking on us without being intrusive. Here's a nice little cafe style breakfast cafe that has a family owned atmosphere. Jackies is a good option to visit if you're looking for home style cooking and friendly service. Surprisingly enough it was a pretty busy buzz throughout and there is very little advertising about the restaurant. As cluttered as it is, it's actually pretty clean. The plates were nicely organized and everything looked fresh as it came out. The menu is fairly large and for me a little too overwhelming, so I asked the waitress for her favorite. She pointed me to the California Eggs Benedict. They were pretty good. For the customer: Don't be afraid to ask the staff what is good that day. Be adventurous and trust them. You would be surprised at how often they will give you something extremely fresh and tasty, even if it wasn't your top choice. For the business: Your menu really is overwhelming and should be cut down by at least a third. The hollandaise sauce needs more lemon and cayenne. There should be a nice zip to it. I walked from Colombia Way and at no point saw a sign that pointed me to your direction. Your staff was great. I could even see the kitchen staff and I was impressed with how everyone handled the rush. Final thoughts. I would recommend this place and may even come back myself. Good job. read more

This place is very average. My husband ordered the flank steak and eggs and I had the Swedish crepes, side of sausage, and a slice of the carrot walnut bread. The crepes were nice sweet and tart. It would be nice to see a savory crepe on the menu but they only had sweet. My husband's plate he said was very average. The eggs were small, the steak was a step up from a Denny's steak. While I will still give this a good review, do not sit at the bar on the right hand side. You hear all of the staff bitching about people and you feel like you are in their way as they prep the dishes and cutlery. And the service is horrible, you get ignored until you start shooting daggers of death at someone to notice you. One ditzy waitress took all of our condiments and salt and pepper to give to a couple that was sitting at the left bar....I guess we didn't need condiments with our food. Whenever I'm in the AV, my go to diner is typically Chellys which is absolutely delicious, however my sister recommended this place and what we found was reasonably priced delicious food. I ordered a BYO soufflé Omelette and it was delicious. The herb potatoes are also delicious and very savory compared to other typical diner potatoes. So, I've been to Jackies a number of times. When they first opened I would come in maybe once a month. But, unfortunately, as with many places, over time things have gone down hill. The food is not good enough for the prices. And, the service... The service is mediocre even on good days. Service is not the most important part for me, I'm really not looking to have some deep conversation with the wait staff. But, clarity when ordering is just basic when it comes to service. How about telling me when you're going to charge $2.50 for ranch? That's the kind of information I expect from wait staff, but, not here. For me, the food can balance out poor service. Unfortunately, it doesnt at Jackies. The best food item they serve is herb potatoes (seasoned hash bowns, yes, best thing on menu is a side dish...). Second best, blast sandwich (bacon sandwich). Past those two, I'm not really endorsing any of the other items. The "souffle omelette" is super rubbery like every time not just once. NEVER get hollandaise, its awful! The pancakes are not special. Crepes are just okay. Waffles not crispy. Burgers are OVERCOOKED every time. Even the breakfast burrito, tastes greasy which is unnecessary. Chicken papas (breakfast hash with chicken), chicken is dry, and it's $2.00 extra for an egg on a breakfast hash???? How does that work? Thing is, early on, this place was good. Good tasting, for the most part, like an old grandma was cooking. And, I think there was an old grandma in the back, but, now, it's just a washed out version of what it used to be.
