Service is always amazing here. Most helpful and friendly bartenders in Brooklyn. They don't get annoyed when I don't know exactly what I want lol, unlike some of the other bartenders I've run into during my stay here. Wonderful vibe, very casual and lowkey. I ended up here because I was looking into a different pinball bar, and found it lacking. First, no one is coming here for a craft cocktail. The drinks are basic--beers, shots, beers and shots. I had a margarita and it wasn't the best I've ever had--but I came here for pinball, man! The bartender was attentive and friendly. She told me about the games available and which were newest. I had hoped The Mandalorian and Halloween games were still around, but they had sadly moved on. First, I still had a great time! Secondly, this just shows this venue changes out their games fairly often, and that's a plus for regulars. I should also mention, for NYC, the drinks are very reasonably priced. The variety of pinball machines was impressive and super cool. Twilight Zone, Monster Bash, Jaws, Stranger Things, Deadpool, Demolition Man, Elton John, and more. You can use quarters, but the machines also take one dollar bills, which I found super convenient. I gave the bartender a 20 and she gave me 20 ones, and I had a blast. Each machine has a cup holder for your booze. I enjoyed each machine for a different reason. I actually enjoyed the Elton John game a lot! And Monster Bash was pretty cool and seemed to let me have a lot of extra games. You can tell these games are loved and well cared for. Clean and immaculately maintained. Over the last 10 years I've been popping into Jackbar and it's chill environment makes it the spot to a grab a drink and wind down. Jackbar is like that old friend that you don't see often but can pick up a conversation with like you spoke yesterday. This bar doesn't really give a shit to try and be a "trendy bar." It's a staple in NYC night life with it's no limelight but fuck it's fun as fuck to chill here and just get a drink. This is the type of bar where strangers end up being friends until closing. I was here for maybe 30 minutes before we headed out to another bar but the bartender was a sweetheart and I have no complaints about the one Pilsner I had. Aw. This place is close to my heart. Visiting last April made me love pinball again, as I'd stopped playing during my hometown lockdowns and curfews. It was then my first stop when I officially moved here from Ohio last fall. The bartenders are all super sweet and the crowd is typically pretty chill. High-end pinball in a low-end part of town. Sorry if that statement offends anyone (not really), but walking around Jackbar's neighborhood after dark might not be the best decision you make all week. During the day it's totally fine but, y'know, between the barred storefront windows and heaps of litter, cracker-ass pasty whiteboii Eric S roaming around here at midnight could end poorly. Sketchy surroundings notwithstanding, this is a pretty legit place to get your pinball fix. As of 5/15/16 there were 10 pinball machines in total, including 2 shiny new tables from Jersey Jack. The ten were: + Road Show + Fish Tales + Black Rose + Rollergames + Twilight Zone + Whirlwind + Game of Thrones + Wizard of Oz LE + The Hobbit LE + .......and last but not least, Big Juicy Melons (hosted by the very well-endowed Ellen, Helen, and Melony). Yeah that table was just one giant euphemism. lol bewbs. All games were 50¢, a good value. Jack*Bar does not serve food, only booze and soft drinks. The barkeep was pretty chill; he actually comped us a diet coke and club soda which was super nice of him. The bathroom had TONS of graffiti in/on it (I'm thinking it was intentional--like at Emporium Barcade in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood). What I found most interesting was that someone had taken a sharpie and scrawled an algebra problem on the wall......which I obviously solved. The answer was ' x = -3 ', for those wondering. Most of the scribbling was pretty funny, only a bit was in poor taste. Overall, the pinballs were in excellent condition. Road Show was my favorite and The Hobbit played beautifully, although WoZ LE had some major glitches going on. There was some sort of wiring short circuit underneath the playfield causing the lights to blink randomly, and the right flipper was completely dead. So that one needs major fixing. If pinball isn't really your thing, then I see no point to come here apart from a drink or four (besides admiring the giant naked lady painted on the wall). But silver ball fans would do well to spend ten bucks and a couple hours at Jackbar. read more

I feel I've spent enough time and $$$ here to update my review. Back to 5 stars! I've been back here enough to see that my last review was an anomaly. In this day and age of pseudo "dive" bars in NYC this is the real deal. When I say that I don't mean in the sense of a seedy, darkly lit bar room but more in the sense of reasonably priced drinks and no pretentious folks. Spent the past hour drinking happy hour priced High Life's while discussing the NYC Pinball scene with the owner (while he was doing up keep on the pinball machines to make sure they were in great shape for players) and Music from Def Leppard to Clarence Carter with the bar keep. The fact that I willingly take a NYC bus to get here should be enough of an indication of how I feel about Jackbar. ***** read more

Cool vibe and atmosphere. Love the lines of pinball machines in all type of themes e.g. Game of Thrones, which was the special one that cost I think $2 to play. They have others for as low as $0.75. The reason I give this place a 4 is because of the limited drinks they had. My friend ordered two other drinks at first, but they didn't have them. I wanted something super simple Pineapple with Taquila, but they didn't have Pineapple juice only grapefruit and orange. I settled with orange... didn't like it as much. Edit: obviously my review was not all focused on a pineapple juice. As I said above my friends ordered other drinks, which I personally don't remember all of them, but a lot of drinks were not available (they were not fancy mixed drinks). read more

I have nothing but good things to say about Jackbar! I originally started coming here a little over 2 years ago, before I was into pinball. One of the great things about Jackbar is that it's mainly a bar, but doubles as a place to play pinball. Whether you're there to drink and socialize or to scratch a pinball itch, Jackbar is accommodating. In other words, you won't feel out of place here if you're not a pinball enthusiast, but it's also a fun place to visit if you are (full disclosure: I'm an amateur at pinball, but I think it's a lot of fun). I was last here about a month ago. During my visit, I was able to converse with the owner, who I have nothing but respect for after talking to. He came across as very genuine and as someone who takes a lot of pride and care in running his business well. The pinball games are generally in good working order and are challenging, but not set not to be so hard that they aren't fun to play. The prices of the games are extremely reasonable. Drink prices here are fair, especially considering the location. The bartenders are also very nice. There's an impressive variety of beer and liquor, and their cocktails tend to contain a generous house pour! The atmosphere at Jackbar is chill and casual, especially when it's not busy. While I'm not in the area often, Jackbar remains a go-to for when I head into that neck of the woods. read more

Horrible spot. Unfriendly owner. Pinball machines suck. Joking. Their shirts have bad reviews so I'd figure why not start that way. On another level, the bar has a cool vibe for the neighborhood. Great location. Whenever I'm in the area, it's my bar of preference. As far as whether I'd choose here vs. Barcade (both have games), I'd choose Jackbar. Why? A few reasons. 1) No Tokens Jackbar doesn't use tokens for their games. There is nothing worse than waking up with a hangover and pocket full of tokens. Your girl might be like, "Is that a roll of quarters or are you happy to see me?" Your reply will be: "Neither. It's a bunch of tokens than I can't use for laundry." 2) No bouncer. Barcade more than likely has an interview process for their bouncers than involves a "being a d*ck" test. Without fail, the bouncer is always different but ALWAYS a dick. 3) Sausage fest Barcade is always filled with thirsty men. You can bring your girl but make sure she dressed like a boy. In any event, it's worth checking out. read more

Games are all $1, which is more than the games at nearby Barcade. Not worth it. Just go to barcade and spend $.75 or $.50 for some of the same games. Beers are all $8, including those that are usually less expensive (ie Pacifico). Again, better places to go. Disappointed. read more

Pretty cool bar. There aren't many ppl guess Coz we went there early and its new year holiday days. The bartenders are cool. We found they have board games and wanted to play but u basically can't fine a complete whole game. They are all messed with other games. We have fun with the pinball machines. What can't I say about Jackbar. This is my home away from home. A sort of living room feel where you know all the regulars and the staff and they know you. Lots of on tap beers and canned/bottle beers, full liquor bar but I always just go with the beer and shot special. There is an ever changing different types of pinball games, if you're into the sort of thing. On Thursday nights is pinball league night. There is the veranda for the smokers, people watchers, and (fresh) air wanters. They also have a few table games such as dice, uno, connect four, chess etc. So come on in, we won't bite to hard. I was only in Jackbar for a quick drink before dinner nearby, but I'm pretty sure I was smiling the whole time. The place is half pinball arcade, half bar. Pinball machines line one of the walls and the wall closest to the windows in front. There are tables throughout but plenty of space to move around. I asked the bartender if they had a drink list and he asked what I had in mind, so I requested an aperol spritz. He said he could do it if he had the ingredients and I could tell him how to make it. That's when I realized I was probably being difficult and opted for a Bells Two Hearted, instead. The beer list is solid and has something for everyone. Stick with that or a simple mixed drink. A group of people were setting up for this guy's 30th birthday party and we received a pin with his face on it. They seemed like a fun crew - I bet they had a blast! If I lived in Brooklyn I could easily see this place being a regular stop. read more

I have no idea since I don't know the area that well, but it looked like a regular place to me. Came to Jackbar after work yesterday for some alcohol and pinball. This place did not disappoint! It's definitely going to be one of my new go to spots for good times! The atmosphere is chill. The patrons and staff are super friendly. They have about 11 pinball games. Some are 50 cents, others are 75 cents. There's one game that takes dollar bills. The one next to the Wizard of Oz. The Game of Thrones one is definitely my favorite. Totally addicting. No machines to make change but just ask the super duper friendly female bartender and she'll give you as much change as you want. They also have board games. Chess, Apples to Apples, etc. Nice, tore up bar stools (love divey stuff!) and tables and chairs. It's nice that they have cup holders on the sides of the games. I wish I could remember that sweet bartenders name. So accommodating and nice. Blonde, curly hair. Made the best drinks! Bomb a$$ jalapeno Margaritas!! My insides are still burning a day later. Love it!! She also made a nice house cocktail called the Face Melter. Gin, cucumber and lemonade. MMM...so freaking tasty! They have a tiny outdoor lounge area. Nice to chill inside in the cold playing games and then get a little warm up with your drink outside and people watch. The bathrooms were typical dive bar bathrooms. The sink wasn't working in one of them. Yuck. The prices here are amazing! My friend and I had 10 drinks in total and the tab came out to only $52!! That aspect alone will keep me coming back for more!!! They have a special beer and a shot for only seven bucks. Can't go wrong at all with Jackbar. Kudos to such a refreshing spot! In a world where people are tapping on their phones and tablets to play virtual versions of machines, the real thing can be had here and there is no substitute for a steel ball and a real table with real flipper buttons. Stumbled in here to get away from the heat. We were attracted to the pinball tables and were not disappointed. I got a real mean margarita to start... I may have gotten two but my brain can't remember. The owner was the bartender (I think) and he was very nice and talkative. Watch out for 'Dialed in'.
