Jack Creek makes some fantastic Pinot Noir and views are unbeatable! My husband joined the wine club on his own about two years ago and needless to say, I was not disappointed with the wines he brought home! The staff is amazing and so knowledgeable about the wines. We were thrilled when the tasting room reopened to the public because we're able to visit any time we want now (and we always want to visit!). Don't let the change in ownership worry you one bit! One of the best lucky stops we made on our road trip. We went into the family store. There are six generations working the ranch and farm. We tasted vinegars. We tasted honeys. We bought Holiday gifts for many people back home. It was a wonderful place and they had antique postcard you could send people for minimal price. We walked around the farm and there were many places to take children to see wooden trains and many animals. Everyone must go here. read more

Really, really liked this place. The view, the service and the wines made for a pleasant experience. The crew got there as they were just opening up. So we lucked out with no there people in there and got solid attention. Mrs. Baker was loving the view and house. So, on to the wines; '10 Chard - WOW! This by far was one best Chards I have ever had. Low malo and he combines oak and steel. Which explains why the GF and I loved it. '10 Estate Pinot - Shockingly, Mr. Baker loved the Pinot. He is more into the American style and for him to like it is a good sign. '10 Estate Pinot Res. - Even better, the Pinot just stayed with you on this one. '09 Grenache - Whoa!! Very, very good. 100% Grenache and was just great. Got one. What became a tease was the Concrete Blonde. It's a Chard but rather then use barrels or steel containers, he is using concrete vats. WH...WH....WHAT?? Yup, concrete. I asked with it does and said it gives a mineral taste. BUT! It's only for club members. Like i said, tease. We've been here several years in a row and usually enjoyed the experience. The wine is generally good, although the price point is a little much for the quality and brand. Nonetheless, we enjoy visiting Jack Creek Cellars, and in past years have enjoyed delicious pairings along with the wine they are pouring. The Concrete Blonde, Pinot Noir, and Syrah are usually pretty consistent and good. This time.... sorry guys, not a good experience. What happened? You used to be so much fun!!! There are so many rules it's like trying to do business with the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. Yikes. Our friends were in the wine club, so we went there for tasting. Wine tasting was free for one person for $50 purchase, and you got free tacos if you were in the wine club. Ok so we didn't want the tacos, but the wine club members got library wine tasting and since we were with our friends in the wine club, we assumed we could get library tasting on their membership, and the nicer people out front gave us all wine member glasses. Heck no!!!!! One of the women kept asking me if I was in the wine club, and I told her no we were with my friends. "well this area is for members only, usually we don't allow non-members in here". Okay okay!!! So we left. The reserve Pinot Noir cost almost as much as a bottle of Sea Smoke, and wasn't all that for the price. So we left the library with our tails between our legs. Honestly we might have bought the reserve Chardonnay (although overpriced, it was good), but the experience left a sour taste in our mouth so we weren't willing to spend the money. Hopefully this is phenomenon that only occurs around busy festival times, but from what we are hearing, other patrons are complaining about the excessive amount of "rules" to taste. Simply a stunning example of wine in California. GOD FORBID we ever turn into the type of wine area that can fit tour buses on our driveways... Why? Because of the perfect gem's of our region like Jack Creek. I'll be honest, this is one review that I debated posting.. I have the feeling once the Genie is out of the bottle on Jack Creek it will become very popular. The production is small, warm and totally approachable. Jack Creek really is one of the watermarks for the very best wine California has to offer. They have a tight lineup of wines that are all equally qualified to be considered amongst the best of the region. The Syrah, Pinot and sister reserves of each are simply balanced delicate and stunning. The tasting room is a small room, off a few parking spots in the middle of a beautiful vineyard. Sorry, there is no giant rock wall, or indoor fountains, or post modern Mediterranean architecture.. and best of all, there is no room for a tour bus. All there is, is a perfect little vineyard, simply, and quietly, crafting one of the true gems of the region. Please do support them, but do me a favor and keep the secret between us ;).... We were recently in the tasting room with a large group of our friends. Jack Creek was recommended to us because a few of us really like Pinot Noir and we were told they had a good one! We were sorely disappointed. The wine was ok, not the best, but the tasting room was a disappointment. They clearly weren't ready for our group, didn't interact with us at all, and just weren't very friendly. Finally, the $10 tasting fee wasn't worth it, and you had to buy 3 bottles to get a free tasting! We didn't even buy one! Would not go back. Sorry! read more

Was told it was THE place for amazing Pinot Noir, but when we arrived they were sold out. I guess it really is that good! I'll have to stop in next year to try and get my hands on some. The other wines we tried were spectacular, however. Most especially the Syrah. I LOVED IT!!! The woman doing the sampling was nice and we had the place to ourselves. The wines alone is worth this 5 star review. To be honest I stumbled upon this winery because I had a 12 pm appointment at Daou to pick up wines and got there early so this was the only place I found open at the time. Upon my sit down I was greeted with a very nice staff member. The view was also quite nice. The first taste was a Chardonnay and it was as clean as you can get with a lingering finish. They told me that they specialized in Pinot which was usually not my favorite so I was expecting not to like this tasting already since there were two pours on the menu of Pinot. Boy was I wrong. I knew their Chardonnay would be good being located on the willow creek district, but that Pinot blew my mind. If you want to try Burgundian grapes with Rhône minerality jack creek does it as well as can be in that area. Their wines have absolutely no taste of impurities. I've tried the 60$+ Pinot at niner which people rave As well as the 85$ Pinot from Daou and have to say jacks is better than both. If u hate elegant, rich, smooth, long finish, with a buttery taste of chalk in the end then don't come here. For real wine drinkers u have to check out this place. Ended up picking up 3 bottles because it waved the tasting (only two is needed), but now I regret it. I should have bought 6. Let my Chardonnay fan friend try their Chardonnay alongside with two other chards she just loved it as well now I'm left with only a bottle left :(. Loved the setting and surrounding areas here. Even have an outdoor picnic area that is shaded if you have your own lunch. Their wine variety was unique. I was blown away they have a cement egg and cement hippos. I had only heard about them being used for wine making but had never seen them. Pretty cool they were super nice and took us in the back to see them. Worth a stop you won't be disappointed. read more

If you like a California-style Pinot Noir and a little cream in your Chardonnay, you better go here. (Preferably before your palate has been blasted by 4 or 5 other wineries.) I love Jack Creek's wine. And I mean that very sincerely. Another great, friendly family with solid, solid wine. This is one of the only places in Paso that can produce a nice, locally grown Pinot and Chardonnay. Their vineyard sits in what we call the Templeton Gap, and the cooler influence there allows them to blow everyone else out of the water when it comes to those particular varietals. The Pinot is not a heavy, musky Burgundian-style Pinot, and the Chardonnay has more of a buttery profile, rather than crisp. I also love their deep, dark, luscious Syrah. Writing this is making me salivate, honestly. The tasting room is nothing fancy, as it's within the cellar, but the surrounding vineyards are beautiful, as are the views of the signature rolling hills and oak trees behind the property. One thing I will say is that you might check into what's being offered before you go. The smaller wineries tend to sell out quickly, and you'll want as much of their list as you can get your hands on. They are only open on weekends (which makes me pouty). I always tell people that are cruising Vineyard Drive to pop in to Jack Creek. The road it's on is much shorter than it looks on the wine maps and it's so, so worth it. read more

We love this winery!! Last year we were visiting Pismo Beach but really wanted to purchase some wine from Jack Creek Cellars. Back then they did not have a tasting room. The woman we spoke too over the phone, offered to deliver 4 bottles of Pinot to our hotel at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE!! Who does that? Nobody. Today, we visited the tasting room which they have recently open and Kelsey (and Stella their dog greeted us warmly) served us a selection of wines to taste. The wine and hospitality were excellent! Can you believe they only charge a measly $10 for tasting! I highly recommend this winery and wonderful people here too! Not to mention the wine is excellent!! read more

The wines were pretty good but the tasting room experience was not. Basically it was one of the least interactive tasting experiences we have ever had. There were about ten of us, mostly people that work in the industry. We received no tasting info just poured the wine and our attendant stood there. When it was time to purchase wine we began to show our industry cards, this was not good enough,we had to give them the card so it could be stapled to our receipt. One had forgot her business card and found her pay stub but that wasn't good enough. Now would we as industry people refer this tasting room? Guess the answer is pretty obvious. read more

The tasting room was very small there is only room for 2-3 peole to stand at the counter we stopped in on a Friday afternoon and there was only one person there pouring wine so you got your glass and just stood in the back of the room because of the lack of counter space. Go for the pinot, stay for the ... well, pinot. Jack Creek makes a truly phenomenal California-style Pinot. Big, rich, fruity, and alcoholic. Unlike some other pinots from the area, these have nice structure and tannin to balance out the sugar. I'd call them Jammy, except Jams usually have more sugar than fruit. So I'll call these "Preserve-y", as Preserves usually have more fruit than sugar. They do make other wines, but I've never been a big fan of oaked Chardonnay (though theirs is decent) and their syrah is fine, but not worth the price in my opinion. I have been tasting French and California Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs for more than 30 years. Jack Creek wines are extremely well made and match up well against such heavy weights as Sea Smoke, Paul Hobbs, Merry Edwards, Hartford Family and Evans Ranch. Do you like Gevrey-Chambertin, Nuits-Saint-Georges or DRC La Tache? Try JCC! (OK, the La Tache comparison maybe a little over the top but it is $500 a pop when you can find it, which you can't) I can't imagine why people would give them 3 stars out of 5 unless they really are put off by the small tasting room. Come on, what is the point of wine tasting??? Geez. The Chards and Syrahs are also first rate. The Chards are rich and balanced and without malo, I think. The Syrahs have deep, extracted fruit with that cool weather spice finish we like with red meat. To top it off, the owners and tasting room staff are wonderfully nice and knowledgeable. Very good Pinot Noir but wasn't impressed with the other wines for the price point. The pros are that the staff was really friendly and knowledgeable and the view is gorgeous (a great place to take pictures). But the wines didn't seem like a good value and I didn't like that I had to buy three bottles to get the tasting fee waived; for what their wines cost, it should be one or two bottles at most. We had a great time at Jack Creek this past weekend. We stopped by without an appointment (since it was recommended to us earlier that day by someone at Denner) and were welcomed in anyway for a tasting. The atmosphere was inviting, and the person pouring for us was friendly but non-intrusive. They do a focused tasting where they pair each of the wines with something. In our case, it was two cheeses, a salami, and a DELICIOUS cinnamon ice cream. A really fun experience, and a memorable one. We bought a couple bottles and would definitely return for more. read more

They were pouring a chardonnay and several pinots. I have never really been a fan of Pinot in Paso, as opposed to the wineries further south near Santa Maria/Santa Barbara. Too hot in Paso, but this little area west of the 101 has its own little climate, and they make good pinot. Chardonnay was okay. I bought a bottle of Pinot and would recommend it if you are looking for some Pinot in the Paso area. Haven't found a better Pinot in the region. read more

We love their Pinot. Hands down, some of the best. Tasting room is cutesy, not overwhelming. Pouring staff was appropriate and gave us some nice facts about the winery and their vineyard. My husband pointed out the cost of this wine...it's not inexpensive. Their infamous Pinot runs $36 a bottle (for some that's affordable...but on a budget like most of America, it is not). So I suggested to my hubby we look into the wine club to save some money on the cost as we were buying a few bottles anyway. So disappointed they don't discount for wine club (per their rationale...they simply don't make enough wine). We get it. Also disappointed they only wave ONE tasting fee per (3) bottles of wine you purchase. My husband and I BOTH tasted. We bought (3) bottles. They let me taste for free, but charged my husband $10. That's chappy! 30 minutes later and $126 less in my pocket...we head to another winery. For a winery to be great, you have to be accessible, have amazing wine, AND be gracious to your customers. Charging that extra $10 was just greedy. My husband was fuming. Bottom line, we won't go back. There is FAR too much competition in Paso wine country to pay that much....seriously. read more

Although their strengths are their luscious estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, they've recently expanded to Grenache and Syrah. Their wines are not cheap, but they are delicious and usually sell out within a few months of release. They have some special projects using concrete fermentation tanks as well as a sparkling wine so their fall 2015 release should be special. However, their tasting bar is tiny (4-6 people) and they often require appointments so call ahead. read more
