Came for the cider, stayed for the Crab Sandwich. My wife wanted to visit this spot for old times sake. She fell in love with their ciders way back in 2011. When we saw their sign from the highway, we had to pop in. It's a chill little spot with indoor and outdoor seating. The people that work there was nice and friendly. We chose the cider tasting flight and discovered they now serve food. We decided to have the crab sandwich with caviar. The cider of choice was the 2023 NC3. But let's talk about that Crab Sandwich! "Delicious" great flavor with that buttery seared bread and the pop of caviar. I could have eaten two of them. They offer wine tasting as well, but I can't tell you much about it since we only had the ciders. If you find yourself on the 46, pop in, have that Crab sandwich. read more

We stopped by Lone Madrone because there was a "Bristol" sign out front, and we have a granddaughter named Bristol. We ended up getting a nice tour of the grounds, enjoyed a wine tasting, sampled the Bristol ciders, and feasted on a VERY tasty charcuterie board. The staff at Lone Madrone were very friendly and we enjoyed lots of wonderful conversation. When we left, we took a couple of bottles of wine and some of their Bristol cider to enjoy later. A girls weekend in Paso started with a patio tasting at Lone Madrone. Our server Mary walked us through some history and info on their dry farming and organic practices behind their wines. We tasted five wines and their English Bristols cider. My favs were the 2022 Estate Zinfandel and the 2022 Old Hat. I loved the fact that the winemaker's son designed the gorgeous label for the Zin, featuring a wreath of the cover crop they use in their organic vineyards. I got a bottle and once it's empty, I have plans to put some twinkly lights in it. It was disappointing that although the winery confirmed with our organizer that they had lunch available at the time of our Friday visit (we did have a reserved tasting reservation), it turned out that they were not serving lunch that day! But it ended up working out - we drove down the road and had an outstanding lunch with great cocktails at Barton's Kitchen. read more

Came this past weekend with friends for the soft opening of Kitchen 46. First time visiting this winery for me, my friends had been before and love their wine. Had a great tasting! Hannah was very knowledgeable about the wines they have. I drink mostly reds, but the chenin blanc and grenache were really tasty! Every taste was good! I shared a chicken sandwhich and salad with my friend, so so tasty! The sandwhich was perfect, I love slaw in my sandwhich. The aioli a dip was so good. The salad, very refreshing. Father's Day brunch at Lone Madrone was an amazing experience! The wine was magnificent, including tasting of Points West White, Grenache, Sheep Camp Zin and Bailey Ranch Zin. The Lamb burgers are simply the Best, with an amazing side salad and those amazing crispy cut fries with truffle ketchup and garlic aioli dipping sauces! So good your brains will fall out! This spot was recommended to us by many on a previous trip to Paso, so on our most recent venture down this way, we made it stop number one! We stopped in on a Friday morning, didn't have a reservation, but they were able to take us for a tasting immediately. There was only one other group tasting while we were there, so getting a seat and help was no problem at all. They had a nice large outdoor patio and some high tops and bar seating inside the tasting room. It was a rainy day when we were here, so we enjoyed our tasting inside. We were helped by Donna, who had a plethora of knowledge about Lone Madrone and all the vineyards they work with. She lead a great tasting, and would sit with us to chat about each wine. Sadly we had another reservation scheduled so we couldn't stay too long, but she gave us a great sped up version, while still including quite a bit of information about each wine we were trying. The flight came with 5 wines and we got an off menu pour of a bottle they had opened. These weren't personally my favorite wines I had during the trip, but it was still a really great experience and I'd recommend this place to someone wanting to try a nice variety of wines. Right off the main 46 highway this is a very laid back winery that serves decent food. Very big burgers and large plate of shoestring fries. They also carry some cool cider for tasting and my wife really likes the wines although they were a tad pricey for Paso. read more

The Mrs. and I stopped by Lone Madrone this afternoon. We were originally going to have lunch at Kitchen 46 but it is only open on Saturday and Sunday. So we decided to do some wine tasting. I had been to Lone Madrone several years ago when it was Four Vines. Apparently, that was a long time ago. It was raining when we arrived and the were only two other people wine tasting. We parked ourselves at a high top table and began our adventure. I love wine tasting in the rain. Especially during the week. The wines were all really good and the lady that poured for us was so nice. The tasting fee is $25 and is waived with the purchase of two bottles. read more

We really enjoyed our tasting experience with Amber. It was a quiet Tuesday and friends had recommended we visit. We only wanted to taste red so we skipped a formal tasting. We tried a few reds and wow !!! We found Nebbiolo our favorite wine. The Nebbiolo here is called "Bollo". Also the Tannat is very special. The real deal when it comes to wine. I've been a member for awhile and didn't know until recently that the owner and winemaker came from a culinary background in the UK and started Lone Madrone after training under the wine maker at Le Cuvier (who is amazing as a non-traditional style). He was then brought over to Tablas Creek (where he continues to do traditional Rhone blends). So Lone Madrone is known for having an excellent base of wines that are not constrained by tradition and tend to take on more creative expression that never disappoints. After having a small salon in the Adelaida district, they now own a new tasting room in the former farmstand market at the intersection of Hwy 46 and Vineyard drive; just adjacent to Zin Alley. Every time we come, we receive very attentive service with a detailed explanation of the wines. We're not rushed and can enjoy and savor each sip. They now have a kitchen at the new location and offer up their famous lamb tacos--- I could come just for the tacos :-) If you are serious about wine, this is a place not to be missed. read more

We recently experienced the soft opening of the new Kitchen 46. It is located at the Lone Madrone tasting room.The experience there was top-notch. We had the burger, which was the best burger I've ever had! And I mean it. Lone Madrone winery is also the home of Bristols Cider. Their ciders arve the finest in San Luis Obispo County. Oh Lone Madrone!!! I have always loved your wines and your cute tasting room on Adelaida so I was bummed to see you had moved. Boy was I wrong! Ohhhhh Mmmmm Geeeee!! I was in for a surprise! The new tasting room has all the charm of the previous room but bigger! Wines are still on point! Oveja Blanca is my fav!! What took this way over the top is the addition to the restaurant. Yes, we have always loved Burger Sunday, but Chef Jeffery Scott now has free rein to serve his sophisticated and elevated food Saturday and Sunday. Heirloom, Watermelon Salad with what had to be homemade feta (it was so light and fresh) drizzled with a vinaigrette. Just perfect with the Rose! Peruvian Ceviche with the most amazing coconut foam! The lady next to us was from Peru and she said not only is this version hard to execute but it was spot on! If that wasn't enough, I had the Cornmeal Crusted Mary's Chicken Thighs. Underneath, was a hot sauce, on top a slaw and mango salad!! It was a flavor explosion of sweet, savory, hot and crunchy!!! Wowwie!!! I also asked if there was any way I could order a side of fries as they had a Steak Frites on the menu and the Chef happily obliged by sending out a massive platter with a spicy aioli and truffle ketchup! The tasting was very informative and the wines were so good, I joined their wine club. We ordered the charcuterie board and olives while enjoying our tasting. I hadn't tasted at this winery in awhile. So, I tried them again and they knocked my socks with their Riesling. Honestly, the best I have ever had and I have had a lot. I rode my motorcycle from Cincinnati, Ohio to the west coast of California looking for exhilaration. By pure chance or maybe fate, I crossed the mountainous range from PCH and was drawn into this oasis on the roadside that seemingly just appeared. I can't express how fortunate I am to have made that stop at Lone Madrone. The atmosphere and setting was serene, the people were the finest of any, and the food provided a top off of experience. I recommend this place rather you intend to eat, taste wine, or spectate. However, the real treat is the people who work here. I don't know how they got this amazing set of individuals. This was our last stop before heading home and I was a bit apprehensive as I have a small toddler. Visiting coast with family so I figured I would have plenty of help with toddler if needed. I loved the set up of this winery! We were seated at a large picnic table outside and the winery was very relaxed and casual which made the experience with a toddler very enjoyable! We sampled wines and ordered a late lunch. The Riesling and Chenin Blanc wine was absolutely divine and we ordered both bottles to take home. We ordered the pommes frites and the beef burger with a side salad. The pommes frites were absolutely divine! Ultra crispy. The truffle ketchup was the star of the sauces and if they had a bottle of the ketchup we would have definitely took it home! The beef burger was absolutely amazing! Large beef patty cooked to absolute perfection! The sauce on the burger complimented the sautéed onions and burger perfectly! There was a small mix up of one order of a burger not arriving yet the issue was promptly taken care of and the staff were very kind and patient. Also, have to mention that the staff of this winery were incredibly attentive and very patient and kind! I love that the winery was pet friendly as well! Hands down some of the best wine to be had on the central coast of California! My favorite the Sheep Camp Zinfandel! closely followed by the Von Dog blend. And the Tannat is delicious! I'm every bit as happy sipping the Picpoul and the Points West Rose. Really lovely wines. Nice venue. Very informed and gracious staff.
