After a Friday patio tasting at Lone Madrone where they weren't serving food, we ended up driving down the road a bit to Grey Wolf and Barton Family Wines where we had an absolutely delicious lunch with craft cocktails - lit spritz and yummy salmon for me! The seared salmon with fire roasted tomato, lentils, barley, roasted squash, wilted spinach and topped with lemon vinaigrette & pepitas was incredible. We were ravenous and so enjoyed our first meal of a weekend Paso trip as we took in views of beautiful rolling hills covered in vineyards. Service, food and ambiance were A+. If we could give this place 10 stars we would. The ambiance and views were great. We had the salmon and the flat bread of the day and they were both very tasty. The food was very hot and came out quickly. The service was excellent. The whole property is beautiful and there is also a distillery you can try some spirits in after. We will definitely be back. There are three important things to note about Barton. One -Kristi is an amazing host with the most blue-collar down to earth descriptions of wine that resonate well with those of us that just enjoy a good glass of grape juice and aren't training to be sommeliers. I had one wine that made me "contemplate world issues" and another one that "May get me lucky :)". Two -the service was outstanding we enjoyed both the ambience, music, seating and good company of all of the serving team. I was shocked to see one star reviews stating that people were ignored or that the service was subpar - untrue during my visit. Three - the food was amazing -chef DJ did an outstanding job and while many wineries will tell you about their Michelin rated chefs and amazing grub, this is a place to get a truly unique grilled cheese sandwich, melt in your mouth Pork belly with orange zest or even simple olive oil and bread to make your day drinking sustainable. We stopped at Grey Wolf specifically for the Barton Kitchen to grab some lunch while continuing to enjoy some quality wine from Paso Robles. What can I say but Wow!! First, the menu options were perfectly chosen for the type of restaurant this is and who it caters to. I had the tri-tip sandwich and it was incredible!! They were also apparently very serious about their mac & cheese, which they had several gourmet options to try and both were mind altering. We followed the food with great tasting Soul Mate wine of Grey Wolf. Their tasting area and restaurant patio was incredible being both relaxing and a great place to take in the picturesque views of the surrounding rolling hills. Worst place in Paso. We were SO EXCITED when we saw this adorable location and fantastic menu. We stood at a table and then at the tasting bar steps away from three different servers and were ignored by ALL THREE. Useless. One of the servers actually asked a couple next to us how they were doing and then walked right past us. My husband suspects perhaps him being brown had something to do with it - another mixed race couple came in after us and were ignored as well. Never coming back here. So glad we came here! We shared the flatbread, samosa naan, Mac and cheese, Caesar salad and a bottle of the Lineage (red blend) wine. Everything was delicious, but the samosa naan and Lineage were our favorites. The patio was beautiful, and there is a sweet dog that comes around to greet everyone and ask for pets (huge bonus). A wonderful way to spend Mother's Day. First, our tasting at Grey Wolf was perfect; loved the five selections especially the cabernet. We were just finishing up when our buzzer "announced" our lunch was ready so we we headed out to the Kitchen Window for pick up. Warm sunny day enjoying a delicious lunch out in the garden while listening to some soft music...excellent! Portions were generous for the price. I had the BBQ sandwich and hubs had the curry chicken; both served a fresh salad dressed just right. We decided to check out Krobar distillery next door, and ended up tasting. First time here for lunch after wine tasting in Paso. Very casual, order at the window kinda place, lovely outdoor seating overlooking walnut trees and vineyards. The grilled cheese on brioche bread was delicious! Definitely a hit. Mac 'n cheese not what we had hoped for....personally I love crispy cheesy baked Mac n cheese with traditional elbow noodles. These were shells (I think), overcooked and very saucy, not at all baked or crispy. The brisket and bacon were over powering and way too Smokey. At least we saved calories. Of the two the Mac n cheese was the best but still seemed kind of eh (def have had better) I was looking forward the the Mac n cheese in the pictures posted on yelp with the truffle so I was a little bummed to not see that on the menu. We absolutely love this place . Every time we come to pass , we make this a must stop. The jackel is our favorite red. We even bought one of the wolf head pourers. So cute. We also have had lunch here twice. The food is the perfect pairing and cozy environment make you really just relax and enjoy. There's in games outside and cute dogs, cats and chickens. After much online research before our trip, Grey Wolf/Barton was one of the top wineries to visit on our list. It was easy to find on Hwy 46 on our way to Cambria from Paso Robles. The winery is cute, and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Tastings are $7pp, but if you buy one bottle of wine, you get one tasting fee waived, but not both (just FYI). Their wines were all very tasty, but the big surprise was the Chenin Blanc. Surprising in that my hubby, who does not like whites, really liked this wine. So much so, that we bought a bottle. The nice thing about this wine is that it was kinda tart and lemony, which you caught on the back end. It was lovely. Highly recommend! read more

What a cute little winery!!! We were referred to Grey Wolf from a friend who is a wine specialist. He said that even though this winery isn't one of the largest and most popular places to wine taste, they have incredible wines. We were glad we stopped by. Tastings were reasonable priced and we were there during the week so it wasn't busy. When you walk in you are greeted by 2 of the sweetest dogs!!! We couldn't stop playing with them during our stay. We did try both the reds and whites. They didn't a couple of the wines, so we were only able to taste a few on the list. They had a total of 5 to choose from. Wines range from $20-$32. The list isn't extensive either. We didn't purchase any wines, but this was a great stop along the PR wineries. read more

We were in town for a friends wedding and new we had to stop here after many recommendations and also previously enjoying some of their wines back home. When you first drive up, it gives you that welcoming home feel! Walked into their tasting room and it was BEAUTIFUL! We were greeted immediately by their wine pouters that were tending to a full bar at the time. After we were done tasting, be bought a couple bottles to take home, and one to enjoy out on their deck with lunch that they have for purchase at their food window outside. The lunch... was something you would have never have thought you could experience from such a small establishment but we were DEFINITELY wrong! I had the steak Mac-n-cheese, my fiancé had the Cuban Sandwich and we got Black Truffle Potato Chips with some kind of aioli to share with our friends that didn't last long so we ordered another! I HIGHLY recommend this spot as a "must try" in Paso... Super cute, modern and cozy winery. They also distill other spirits (I'm not a big drinker so I won't even try to remember what everything was). They offer wine tastings and also serve mixed cocktails as well, which my brother in law loved. We ordered a variety of foods from their kitchen and everything was delicious. The dishes offered a wide and tasty variety of flavors. They have a couple different seating areas and we were lucky enough to get a little space with couches and chairs. I've only been wine tasting at Paso Robles 2x. I have not yet gone through all their wineries. However, both times at Grey Wolf Cellars, they have not failed my expectations of delicious reds! Little Red - Rose This is a delightful rose. Great chilled for a BBQ or with seafood. This is the glass of wine you enjoy poolside Zinful Cab Wonderful Cab and Zinfindel blend. Medium- body. Delicious with meats. Great to come home and pop this open after a hard days work. The Jackal This is 100% Zinfindel. It bursts with ripe fruit flavors and light peppery flavors. The tannins are light to the palate. Can you imagine pairing this with a juicy medium rare steak? It's absolutely mouth watering. The Alpha A cabernet saugvignon blend. Delicious to drink right now...or let it age. The Lineage A bordeaux style blend. This is a creamy and smooth blend that taste absolutely wonderful with an explosion of tastes to your palate. It has hints of vanilla, chocolate, and ripe fruits. I can picture drinking this with a tender cut of filet mignon in brandy cream sauce. All price range for the wines are appropriately paired from good table wine...to special occasion wine. For the quality of these wines...it is definitely worth their price. You will enjoy them. What a little gem of a winery! Found this one from a referral from Peachy Canyon. Tried their red tasting and gotta say that screw cap bottle the owner calls "Meatloaf wine" is awesome for $17 / bottle and super tasty red blend that goes with anything! Went there for their "Candyman" Zinfandel and for $35 it is also a steal! What a great owner, very laid back place and he even allowed a new and upcoming vintner to do a small tasting outside his place! Forgot their name, but the wines at Grey Wolf was the best for the money! They had great dogs to play with and a very cool shady side and back yards to taste their wines! read more

This place was wonderful. We did the wine tasting with cupcake pairing (yum!) The employees were very friendly and knowledgeable. We had great wine and enjoyed the atmosphere. They had a musician playing during the afternoon which was pleasant as we ate our lunch. My husband LOVED the Muffuletta sandwich. I ordered the curry chicken wrap, which was a little dry, but otherwise OK. It didn't matter too much as we greatly enjoyed our time on the patio with our food and wine. This place is well worth stopping at. Their wine and service is spot on. Some of the best I've ever had. Stopped by chance last year in October 2017 and I've been a wine member ever since. They have live music performers on the weekends and they sell food. "Yes you heard it right" they serve food and not just regular food it's like 5 star quality. Views are spectacular too. I can't even express how fantastic the service was here, and 10 minutes before closing! We arrived 10 minutes till closing just hoping to purchase a bottle of Alpha. We knew there'd be no hope of a tasting. However, the gal who was pouring offered us two tastes while she cleaned up, which we were over the moon about. As a token of our appreciation, we tipped her $20 and were prepared to leave when she thanked us immensely and told us she'd pour us a couple of more!!! :) As a result of the additional glasses and excellent customer service, we walked out with 3 bottles of wine, plus their "pup" wine membership (with added perks from our bartender), and a great wine buzz from a total of probably 7-8 different wines! The 2014 River a grenache blanc, viognier blend was also fantastic. $24 The property is lovely and there are pigs along the drive up to the winery. Disappointed. Stopped by Barton for some lunch as we had been here pre pandemic and had a positive experience. Upon walking up we asked an employee, if we just walked around to order food and they let us know to go check in. We then stood in the bar area for approximately 10 minutes and weren't even acknowledged, and only were as we were at the register ordering. After my sister in law ordered, I stood at the register for almost 5 minutes waiting to order while 3 employees were behind the bar. Not once did they say they would be right with me etc. After our orders came out, I pointed out that I had ordered 5 flat breads (and 2 Mac n cheese) he responded that he had only put in 4 and said he had only charged me for 4 and would get another. When we left 45 minutes later, the flat bread had never arrived, nor had he checked in to ask if we needed anything else. Great little place and they have food service! We ordered a bottle of wine along with a cubano sammie, bbq tri-tip sammie, and the mac and cheese with steak. Everything was delicious! Unfortunately, I do not remember what type of wine except it was red and it went really well with the food. The bbq sauce used on the bbq tri-tip sammie is what made it, there was a balance of the sweet, tang and spicy. The mac and cheese was my favorite, it was mac and cheese kicked up a few notches. The flavor and spices used made gave it a little kick...it wasn't your boring mac and cheese (which I also love). The others said the cubano was amazeballs! Had an awesome tasting with Megan. The tasting room is super cute and feels like home or a cute little lodge. Two winery dogs and a sweet orange cat seem to run the place...it's awesome. Orange cat let me pick it up and cuddle and the dogs came over for loving. The bf and I shared two tastings... A red and white and red only. We really enjoyed a lot of the Reds and were surprised by how much we liked the whites. Mr. Jones and Soul Mate were my favorites while he liked Soul Mate (that wine was the reason he wanted to taste there) and Simple Man. I'm also excited to try the Pretty Girl Rose...couldn't do it there because none was open. You should definitely check this place out. Grey Wolf has the best wine in Paso, in my humble opinion. It boasts a small, unassuming tasting room with dogs roaming around, but you will be amazed at the quality of the wine. Their wine is on the pricier side, but totally worth it. Run, don't walk to Grey Wolf! read more
