Wine tasting garden
Ken C.

Service was absolutely on point, loved the information on the wines and the region. We had some crackers, tomato basil cheese spread, and salami with our wines which paired nicely. And you could not ask for better scenery! Definitely a great place to escape, take in the view, enjoy some nice wines, and just relax. We were here in 2012, but did not do a tasting that time. And then came again today in 2025 for the tasting. We'll definitely be back sooner this time. Great place! Wonderful job done by the staff.

From the moment we arrived, this country coastal winery swept us off our feet. Nestled along Highway 46 had an amazing ambiance and was nothing short of fun. Whether you're seated on the open-air terrace or tucked into a cozy corner indoors, the atmosphere invites you to relax and savor every moment. We chose a seat in their beautiful outdoor area. With each tasting, were were told of its origin--thoughtfully crafted, perfectly balanced, and a true reflection of the region. What made our experience unforgettable, though, was our server. Attentive without being overbearing, incredibly knowledgeable, and full of warmth, they elevated our visit to something truly special. If you're looking for a winery that combines stunning scenery, great wine, and top-tier service, this place is a must. This place will always hold a special place in my heart as my husband proposed to me in their vineyard.

Husband and I had a great tasting experience at Castoro today! As we were seated Rya was very welcoming as we waited for our host Cathy. Cathy was just amazing as she enthusiastically shared such great history of Castoro - from the wine, to the winery blocks it came from and the interesting story regarding the whale rock name. The winery is beautiful, with many trees for shade and various options for seating. The stand out wine today was the Cabernet Dorsa - raspberry and plum aromas with a smooth finish at the end. We will be back!

We love this winery-the grounds are beautiful with multiple tables and comfy seating areas outside with lovely views of the surrounding vineyards. Dog friendly if you want to bring your "best friend"! A cozy couch and tables inside if you prefer. Service is 5* with informative descriptions of the wines you are tasting. Angela is one of the best servers there-we look forward to seeing her when we visit! Love hearing about updates on her doggy Misty!

My family has always loved Castoro and their wines are super great! We used to be members and enjoyed the service, atmosphere, and wines. Raya and Angela were super nice. I highly recommend them to serve you! We will be back again soon!

Randy was a great host, cracking jokes and educating us about wine. I'm a long time wine club member because the wine here is both delicious and excellent value. I brought my girlfriend and her mom here for her birthday, and Randy made it special

I'm road tripping /driving through this area and will be with my dog- it says it's pet friendly? Does anyone have a thought or opinion on this? Thanks!

Long story short:…read more Loved that this place is new and modern. We booked a 1 King Bed. Rooms are very spacious and I really liked the color scheme/interior of the place. Pretty affordable as well! For the price of the place and compared to all the options around the place, you can't complain! I think the only let down is that you need to pay for parking - $10 per night. For the details: Upon looking at other reviews before my visit, I set my standard pretty low as some people complained about the cleanliness of the place. Unfortunately, there was a piece of what looked like a beef jerky or what my husband said looked like turd on the sofa. The complimentary toothbrush is very cheap so make sure to bring your own toothbrush. My husband and I joked that it looked more like a cleaning brush and it indeed felt like one too when we brushed our teeth with it. The bristle was super hard and the handle was so fragile. Staff is nice but needs to be more attentive as we were running very very low on body wash. My husband and I were pumping the bottle like crazy and it was just unfortunate as you just look forward to a nice hot shower after a long day in the heat. Lastly, I am very picky but want to point out the water has the chlorine smell. Overall, not bad but not over the top! Definitely worth a stay while it's still new!

The good - big rooms. Firm mattress. Roomy shower. I only…read morehave a few small complaints but they were important enough for me that I will likely not return. I'd rather sleep in a tent with good morning coffee than sleep in a luxury hotel with crappy morning coffee. The big gripe is that there was no coffee machine in our room. It was an espresso machine. Instructions for use were three cryptic images that made no sense. They looked like diagrams you might find on an extraterrestrial space craft. I inserted one of the four thimbles of espresso , which I mistook for instant coffee into the hole a bit crooked and when I lifted the lid to adjust it, it fell down inside the machine. I tried again and the second thimble fell inside the machine. So then I delicately inserted the 3rd thimble and it got in place ok. Still not knowing it was espresso I used a full cup of water and it made for a nasty watered down tasteless drink. Also the thimbles come in two colors. One color is decaf-- but they don't tell you which color is decaf. I inserted the 4th thimble and used 1/4 cup of water. It tasted nasty. Then my wife said, "Where's my coffee?" I told her it's all gone. She was sad. So I struggled to dismantle the machine and dig out the two unused thimbles but then I couldn't put it back together. We figured to heck with it. We will wait until the maid cleans our room and try again on day two. I went to the lobby assuming they would have complimentary coffee. BIG FANCY LUXURY HOTEL AND NO COMPLIMENTARY LOBBY COFFEE. That's nickel - dime bs. We had to dress and drive into town for coffee. I was too upset to buy their restaurant coffee. I found the maid down the hall. I asked her if she could help me reassemble my espresso machine. She said she did not know how to- which means she can't ever empty out the used thimbles. She gave me a brochure but it didn't contain any assembly instructions. We left for the day touring the region. Got back late. The maid had come and made our bed. The maid never touched our dismantled espresso machine. She did not put it back together and she did not leave us any new thimbles of coffee or more creamer. It's going to be a long three days without our morning coffee. One other gripe. At the bar one evening I ordered a shot of tequila. I specifically asked for NOT top shelf. I didn't know the brands and couldn't see the labels from my stool. He picked one for me. I said I want in NEAT. He asked if I wanted it cooled. My mistake - I said sure. He poured my shot into a tumbler of ice which melted. I got a glass nearly full. I was pleased at first. I thought he'd given me a healthy pour. I was wrong. I got a glass of watered down tequila that tasted just as bad as my watered down espresso. The cost for a shot? = $16!!!! PS if you want a great breakfast reasonably priced, and great coffee, drive a couple miles to Joe's in Templeton. .

Maria is wonderful to work with; prompt and complete communication about their services and what makes Dancing Deer special. This property offers a Friday-Sunday rental for weddings, events, retreats, and more! When we were touring, Maria shared a disaster emergency group would be staying there shortly to simulate rescue operations during a hurricane! Their status as an NPO and commitment to enriching the lives of others deeply resonates for me, and I encourage you to learn more about their programs when you meet with Maria. Selfless dedication to others is a rare gift and must always be treasured. They have lodging for up to 50 people in two homes. This is an important feature in our perfect venue as we are trying to achieve a more relaxed, "family reunion" type atmosphere at our nuptials. The homes are modestly appointed, but spacious and clean. The main home has a massive kitchen, large deck, and pool area with plenty of space to hang out and enjoy their property. Finally, let's talk about the actual "wedding" facilities and price! They have a sprawling private estate with tons of potential for the creative and adventurous bride, but they have an established ceremony area under a massive oak serving as an altar with a terraced seating area for guests. It offers a few different processional/entrance choices and is right next to the barn area for the reception. The barn has plumbed bathrooms, but with a high guest count, some rentals would be appropriate. There is also parking nearby. Having all the spaces to be used in one close area is nice for guest comfort so people aren't hiking all around just to get from ceremony to cocktails to dinner (especially the older folks). At Dancing Deer- YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR WEDDING! (within reason). You get to pick all your preferred vendors for everything!! Food, drink, booze of your choosing, rentals, decor, activities-EVERYTHING! This is important to the budget conscious and picky bride alike!! And while we're on the topic, Dancing Deer is able to offer remarkably competitive prices for their whole weekend rental- less than many "one day" venues (usually a 5-8 hour facilities rental). I definitely recommend checking this place out if you're wanting a true getaway feel with plenty of time to relax and enjoy your family and friends beyond the wedding event!

We are the type of members who always take great care of the staff and rarely leave without purchasing extra bottles, yet today we were treated like an inconvenience. Despite being told in the past that spontaneous visits were no problem for members, we were turned away on a gloomy Monday with plenty of open tables. The host at the entrance was incredibly dismissive and wouldn't even let us finish our sentence before cutting us off. We were told our only options were to come back in an hour, a "limited" tasting, drive all the way downtown, or just pick up our shipment and leave. We asked for the Wine Club Manager to resolve the situation, but she wasn't on-site. To be offered a "partial" tasting as a favor after nearly ten years of support was the final straw. It feels as though they now prioritize "closing" new members over honoring the people who have supported them for years. They've gone mainstream and lost the personal touch that made them special.
